I'll be honest--I'm not usually a fan of Spirit Airlines. Their systems often feel like they're built more for efficiency than for customer care. But I have to give credit where it's due. When I checked in at the PA airport, Terrell was the standout. The line was pretty empty, but even still, he made the process smooth and efficient. He was upfront about Spirit's policies, professional, and--most importantly--genuinely kind. I paid for a direct flight at 5:30pm months in advance. Spirit changed my itinerary to leave at 3:20pm with a 5 hour layover, taking my itinerary from 2 hours to over 8 hours. I called to see if there was some way they could rectify this and they told me my options were to cancel the flight or just accept the awful treatment they had served me with absolutely no compensation. This change forced me to spend hundreds of dollars on plan changes and hour long Uber rides since the rides I had set up were no longer possible. I had a very rough start with Spirit Airlines and to be quite frank by the time my interactions with them was complete I felt like they had broken my spirit. It started with my booking which I had originally done on line but when I created my Spirit account I could not add my trip details because I used my middle name and not my complete name as it appears on my ID so now my details do not match. That would turn out to be a very time consuming error on my part. I wind up calling Spirit to have this corrected and I am talking to a gentleman with a very thick accent and it takes every bit of my concentration to understand what he is saying and how this is going to be fixed. He was able add the trip to my Free Spirit account and add a seat and a bag but after we disconnected I noticed that he completely misspelled both my first and last name and my address. Even the abbreviation of Pennsylvania was spelled PN instead of PA. Who makes a mistake like that? It took me calling multiple times and being on hold for hours to finally get to speak with someone only to be told the mistakes can only be fixed in an on line chat. And the on line chat also had me in a que for hours. When I finally got a person in the chat she kept only correcting parts of the errors and I would have to keep updating my account to see what she was doing. All told this took two days to fix. I wound up with a 50.00 credit that I doubted I would ever use and dreaded boarding their plane. But I was delighted at how smooth everything went from there. Boarding (in the midst of all that I did get a great seat at the very front of the plane) was fast, flight left on time and we got to our destination (Miami) early. And the seat was way more conformable than on Frontier. Same for my return flight with the only exception being Spirit's baggage drop off in Miami is all the way at the end like door 33 but the boarding gate was at door 17!!! I am not always the most punctual at airports so I was really making a mad dash to get to this gate. Other than that I would fly with them again. read more

You get what you pay for and I couldn't complain about a $25 flight to Fort Lauderdale. Unless something bad happens to me, then I can complain. The airline makes its money through add-ons. If you don't understand how it works, you learn quickly by paying extra fees. Make sure you understand their policies before trying to board the plane. Not fun to plop down extra cash, so traveler beware. Overall, the planes are all mostly the same size and configuration Airbus A321's, tight seating except for the wide front and exit row seats. And then they'll give you a voucher worth a fraction of what you paid. Staff is unfriendly, I'm very short and no one helped me put my carry on up, they just watched me struggle until I finally asked for help, we got delayed 3 times, and once we finally got on the plane we had to wait once again and became even later because they didn't everything together that they needed for take off, even after a nearly 2 hour delay! The seats are so small and crammed anyone that's not a child is going to feel so crammed in, and the seats are like rocks, thank god I'm short, they bag limit is 40 Pounds even for international flights which forces you to pay a lot of extra money for a carry on unless you wanna try to do laundry on a long trip in a foreign country! This was the only option for a direct flight and honestly I may have been better off dealing with a layover, this absurd amount I paid for this flight was beyond not worth the quality of the experience. read more

This is a budget airline and you definitely get what you pay for. The flight can be cheap but you will literally pay for any and everything else. Picking your seat, Snack/Drink, bags, etc are all an additional charge. Plan accordingly; I filled a water bottle in the airport and had trail mix in case I got hungry. I had 2 people next to me that thought they would be slick and bring carry on size wheeled bags as a personal item. (I heard someone else say they always charge for wheeled bags so keep that in mind when packing if you don't prepay!) Needless to say, the gate agent wasn't having that and told them $65 for their bags. Card only, so they wer screwed since they only had cash. The one guy literally threw his luggage away so he didn't have to pay. Seats are a little snug but doable. I'm only 5'6" and there was just enough leg room. They did let the girl sitting in the middle seat move to a less crowded row since there were empty seats which I thought was nice. read more

If you wonder why Spirit Airlines is going under, this may help explain. I paid a lot for a flight from NYC yo A TL. Spirit charged me $21 for a bigger legroom seat that turned out to be the same as the rest of economy, only closer to the front. In addition I had to pay $70 for a checked bag because it wasn't clear that there is a size limit on the carryon personal item allowed. So on the way back I got a Big Front Seat that online says comes with a checked bag. I paid $78 believing that it would include legroom and the bag, but when I went to check in they said they didn't see that I had a big seat, and it took another 20 minutes at a different kiosk to correct their system. I returned and was told the Big Seat does NOT come with a checked bag. That would be another $79. They are deceptive and fraudulent and create a big runaround, annoyance, and charged me an additional $21 x 2 + $70 + $78 + $79 for a grand total of $269 EXTRA on a routine flight from NY to ATL. It wound up more than many flights to London. I contacted customer service for a refund and expect their "policy" will be to screw customers and say "sorry", like most of our country's corporations. So the best I can do is steer y'all away from Spirit Airlines. If there's another choice, take it. read more

This is my first time flying Spirit and I will not be back. Manners and professionalism should be basic. Our flight leaves at 7 something...we are waiting to start boarding and everything is on time...no issues there. The problem I have, super early is simply needing to ask a question. The gate staff so far (a tall white girl, not wearing her mask properly at all despitethe numerous recordings abouts fines...high strung and completely rude & unprofessional...the other young black lady, Muslim..not that that matters.., was also sadly unprofessional and rude). It appears to be the cheapest/best flight when booking with expedia but there are all these other costs. Bags are expensive, the online process did not work - tried to add bags and pay for seats (seats were $15 a person for the cheapest) and it error-ed out twice! Then I try to call and the wait time is 10 min but I am still on hold so we will see how it is handeled once I get through. Should have gone with another airline that has a better process, and better pricing. I flew with Spirit before and they charged an arm and a leg for our carry on bags because they didn't meet the tiny dimensions they allowed. So that time we were surprised by the extra fees (which are more if you wait until you are at the airport). read more

Spirit has terrible customer service. They overbooked our flight and blamed us as to why we were unable to board. They charged us $99 each to rebook for the next day for a total of $297 dollars. The supervisor I spoke with was robotic and had no ability to deal with people. She should not be in her position unless Spirit wants to keep losing customers. I'm done with all of their crap. I have a disability beca of a bad fall and have to use a cane was flying spirit from Miami airport to Nashville airport on January 1 they were supposed to have a wheelchair at the terminal to get me to their ticket counter. the wheelchair was not there and no other airline would let me use one of theirs I had to walk across Miami airport and when we finally got to the ticket counter the flight was not leaving for another 55 minutes but they would not let us on. we would have to wait 2 days for another flight and I had already paid for seats and baggage for3 people and they were going to charge us again. Wait until you hear this!! My wife and daughter had flown to New Orleans as my wife's sister passed away. Their return flight was a connection in Orlando. Their seats on the flight from Orlando to Philadelphia were 1A and 1C. We paid $128 per seat as an upgrade. We knew it was not first class service but we wanted the extra room the configuration offered. Well a handicapped person who had a two service dogs and trained them for a living boarded the plane. My wife over heard this person explain to the gate agent and flight attendant that she told the booking agent her story and was assured everything was in order for her flight. My daughter offered her larger seat and took the woman's seat in the rear of the plane so she would have the room needed. The gate agent took her boarding pass and said I will process a refund for the $128. Fast forward 4 days and nothing so my wife calls Spirit to see were our refund might be. She spend 4+ hours on the phone being transferred to multiple departments. I won't bore you with all the nonsense I was spoon fed for the hours, however wanted to point out something I thought was extremely disturbing. You see the manager we spoke to"Lydia" after having us on hold for quite sometime came back and said, there is no record of anything similar to what I described in the records and further it could not have happened because it is a violation of FAA policy to have service dogs or seat a disabled person in aisle one. Maybe there was no record by gate agent because it was a safety concern. I don't appreciate being called a liar and hear how lightly they would take FAA safety concerns. Also called tsa to see if they pulled my bag at some point on a random check or something. Did you know that Spirit spelled backwards is inefficient? Not really, but it should be. Check-in/bag drop was beyond confusing. There were 3 lines. Two for kiosk and one for bag drop. If you wait for the kiosk, you still need to go back in the bag drop line. If you go right to the bag drop line, they'll give you your bag tags. If you print your bag tag from the kiosk and apply it wrong, they'll print you a new one at bag drop anyways. Had I known. Had it been clear. I would've gone right to the bag drop line in the first place. It sounds all to logical and like I missed something during my experience, but it was chaos. Obviously the seats are small with minimal leg room. You do need to pay more to get seated next to your loved ones. It sucks having to write down your immediate thoughts in a notepad, but I suppose the couple sitting next to you won't care. Direct message me and I'll share those thoughts. The staff was truly nice though and tried to get me next to my husband, although it didn't work out. They are just folks working for a crappy airline. Rarely do I take the time to write a review, but my recent experience with Spirit was excellent! My flight was round trip from PHL to MYR; all flights arrived on-time and the flight was a quick hour and 20 minutes. My buddies chose to fly bigger airlines and they were delayed going in and out. If you are looking for a cheap flight to get you from point A to point B know the following information going into the flight and you will have a wonderful experience. Things you should know if you plan on flying Spirit: 1. You have to pay for everything, i.e. Check bags, carry-ons, seat upgrades, and in flight snacks/beverage. 2. The seats do not recline and the tray table is the size of an iPad. 3. A seat will automatically be assigned to you if you choose not to pay for a seat selection. 4. Be sure to purchase any upgrades before you get to the airport you will save yourself time and a huge hassle. For any quick flight like this I have in the future I will certainly be looking at Spirit first. read more

If I could give zero stars This is by far the worst airline ever my family went to PR this weekend and was at the airport got in line to be seated so tell me why these tickets people who work there sold my family's seats to other passengers and didn't even say anything nor apologize for what they did because in was in an accident my Famly they were so confused and my mom was so upset and they were told to get of the plane cuz they were no place to sit. Then mean while my mom is worried about the kids safety because at this point now flight is delayed for them and for the people on the plane, so they said that the kids, & stepdad can cannot my mom has to wait the next day shes like yea no they are minors no are you crazy it's an island they can get lost out there. For those considering flying Spirit, I highly recommend reading my review as well as others. My flight was scheduled to depart the Philadelphia airport at 5:30am on Sunday, 4/10. I was notified late Saturday that the flight was already delayed and now scheduled to depart at 7:50am. When I arrived to the airport, the baggage check in line was backed up and passengers we're being taken in front of us so that they could make their delayed Vegas flight. Once I finally got through the baggage line, I then had to wait another 25-30 minutes in the TSA line. When arriving to our gate, the door was shut with no last calls ever made. While the two desk assistants went to check with the pilot about allowing my sister and I on, AT LEAST 20 more passengers came running up to our gate. With that being said, the pilot would not wait for us to board and left behind 20+ passengers. There were absolutely NO last calls made and the fact that it was Spirits baggage check in that held us all up is what infuriates me most. Not only were we told there were no outgoing flights to FL until the 13th but we were basically told to figure it out ourselves. The two assistants behind the desk were not at fault but I do however feel that the pilot was in the wrong. My sister and I spent well over $2,900 just to get to FL due to Spirits mess. Not to mention, we had to spend even more money to book a hotel and request an Uber. This was the first time booking with Spirit and my VERY LAST. I will make sure that anyone that I know who is flying does NOT book with Spirit Airlines after this mess. From the Philadelphia flight leaving without 20+ passengers and the Vegas flight leaving without 40+ is an absolute disgrace. Thank you to American Airlines that was able to get us to our destination the very next day with NO issues. read more
