What a sweet little spot! The woman working was so welcoming and relaxed. I walked in with my parents and my three little girls, and she was incredibly pleasant and accommodating. My dad said it felt like you were walking into someone's home the way she treated us. It was steadily busy, but she was attentive and so kind. All of us enjoyed our food, which was also reasonably priced. My mom and I got the Miner Meal, and it was perfect. The original pasty (just your classic meat, potato and option for rutabaga), a side of slaw, a drink and cookie. I grew up eating pasties, and it was a really solid one. It's all about the crust for me, and they nailed it. Plus, the option of 8oz was just right! And the slaw was really yummy too. A very refreshing side for a heavy pasty. My dad got the pasty mac - no clue it was even a thing (and maybe it isn't anywhere else), and he loved it! Kids got pepperoni pizza pasty and chicken tenders and fries - everything was a hit. My dad tasted the pizza pasty too and said it was delicious. Only the kids ate the tenders and fries - nothing special there, but they were happy with them. Then they each got a cup of Superman ice cream, and we all know you can't go wrong there. Overall, a really great experience! We'd totally come back and would recommend to anyone looking for some classic and tasty yooper food close to the iron mine!! Unless there's a nuclear apocalypse under no circumstances, should you order fish from this establishment. They turned Cajun catfish into a soggy sponge that tasted like dirt from the bottom of your shoe. The mystery tartar sauce was exactly it mystery! very strange color tint between white and yellow. I have absolutely no idea what the two fried balls in the little brown bag where that came with with the meal, which I'm assuming is a consolation prize for taking a gamble and ordering from here. Whatever it was smelt exactly like the fish so that tells me that whatever they fried it in was in the same oil they're cooking fish in which most of us all know is a no-no. The woman at the register, walking around, rubbing her nose, face hair and touching everything in between was a sight I'll just never forget. Website says they're open till 6:30 on Fridays. Pulled up to the drive through at 6:18 and was told by the lady they were closed. Can't rate the pasties because I was lied to by their website I guess. If they are as good as their service I would suggest keep driving by. read more

Grew up (well spent my younger years and loads of time now in the U.P.) and grandma and relatives made pasty's. Always so filling and delicious, can't beat a homemade pasty. Sadly those wonderful people have passed away. :( Our family has tried many different pasty's from different locations around the U.P. but must say, the Pasty Oven makes the best!!! Fresh potatoes, onion, meat and rutabaga in a light, thin flaky crust make this pasty taste "homemade". Lots of selections here but we always go with the traditional pasty with rutabaga. Think these pasty's are available in local grocery stores but we like stopping at the US 2 location in Quinnesec. If you've never had a pasty or enjoy a GOOD one, stop at The Pasty Oven and get some, don't think you'll be disappointed! read more

These pasties never grabbed my full attention, but I visited recently and that all changed. They arguably have the best and most official crust. A visit to this area would not be complete without trying a pasty, I was told. We opted to try The Pasty Oven. The jingle on their website sold me: http://pastys.com/ I ordered the small Traditional Pasty with rutabaga. It was ready within 3 minutes. The crust was flaky and delicious. The innards were bland for my taste. I put a lot of pepper on it. The vegetarian in our group said that the Vegetable Pasty was dry. The Chicken Pasty was out on Saturday during lunch. It's relatively small but we found seats inside. There are two benches outside if you'd like to sit. I paid under $4 for my meal which is insanity. CHEAP! The girls at the counter were very friendly as well. There are other places to have pastys (and apparently pizza) in Iron Mountain, so look at reviews if you'd like to find the best pasty place in the area. read more

One of my favorite locations for either pasties or Friday fish fry. They have a number of different pasties available, but my favorite is the pasty with rutabagas. I have tried the veggie pasty and the chicken pasty, but I am such a traditionalist, I always go back to the old fashion pasty with rutabagas. Very tasty, filling and flavorful. For me, it could use a touch more salt to really make the flavors pop. Now when we start talking fish fries, we head into a whole different galaxy. They have cod and perch Fish fries. My favorite is the perch. You better bring your appetite, as this sucker will fill you up. There are at least 10 to 12 pieces of fish in the perch fish fry. The french fries are a tad on the soggy side and would be much better if they crisped them up a bit. The cod comes in larger pieces than the perch and is nice and flaky and moist. You also get side containers of coleslaw and beans, along with a marble bread. Overall, this is a wonderful,indulgent meal. My family grew up eating fish fries every Friday night, and this is the best one in town. read more

We came in as a group of 8. They took only 4 orders. We had to go get our server to finish taking our order. Only 7 drinks were served; had to go find our server for the final drink. We then got our meals in shifts: 3 people got their food in 15 minutes, 3 got theirs another 20 minutes later, and we had to ask for our final meal. The waitress then brought out the wrong thing and when we corrected her, she got loud and belligerent that it takes time to microwave the pasties. The onion rings were very good, the pasties ok. Hands down The Pasty Oven USED to have the BEST fish fry around. Not any more. Ate there last night. Took 15 minutes to be noticed. Then took an additional hour to be served food. The fish was WAY over cooked, sitting in oil on our plates and rubbery. Couldn't even cut it with my knife and fork rubbery. It also was barely luke warm so how long it had been sitting in the kitchen is anyone's guess. The service was pleasant and apologetic but very disorganized and disheveled. Then it took another 15 minutes of standing at the counter waiting for someone to take my money. Don't know what happened here but this place is not worth going to anymore. read more

This family of Hodags were returning home from the family owned town of Mackinaw City. I had my fill of the lack of competition, diversity, customer service and manufactured 5 star Hype. So we stopped at the Pasty Oven after a referral from the lady working at the Swedish Shop in Norway. I lived for a time in Ontanogan Michigan and as a young boy I loved pasties.. I usually make my own because the wife finds it to labor intensive. My next project is going to make them with corned beef. That was inside information shared by a butcher. We went in and ordered some big traditional and some minis. When we left the limit was two per person. My son ate his first and quickly asked for his second. I ate two and was about two eat the remaining one. Surprisingly my wife sharply reinerated the limit per person and stated thats mine. I was shocked because these two individuals usually avoid contact with pasties. I made them with cubed beef when my boys were growing and would take them on a picnic in the Fall. Usually it was partridge hunting related. I remembered taking a logging road and the boys sitting on a pile of logs eating their pasties with a background of colored leaves. Craig S. read more

Good Pasty! The filling and crust are excellent and tasty! I purchase these Pasty's frozen from Woodman's in Kenosha, so I was interested in checking out their store. The only reason why I didn't rate this place 5 stars is because the store only reheats Pasty's made in their factory ---so no live Pasty making in the restaurant. Still, much better tasting pasty then their competitors in Iron Mountain. read more

Friendly staff, great food, and you can get frozen pasty's to take home, and you can even order online and have them shipped! On Monday I ordered one dozen pasties to be shipped to a friend in San Diego. They were to go out via FedEx on Tuesday. I asked that tracking info be emailed to me as soon as they were shipped. There were no problems and the pasties arrived in good condition Thursday in time for lunch. My friend loved them as they brought back fond memories of growing up in Michigan. They were rated delicious. I was never sent the tracking info even after making a follow up phone call on Wednesday. read more

Ate here Friday 29-July, had the Walleye. It was very fishy tasting like it had been sitting around way too long. The worst fish I've ever had. Unable to finish eating it because it was so disgusting. Complained to the waitress, who was apologetic and then made herself scarce but didn't offer to take it off the bill or offer a substitute. We only visit this area once per year on vacation and will come back to the area, but won't be stopping at this restaurant again. The rest of the food we ordered was so-so but nothing great. Fish came with baked beans that tasted like they were poured straight out of the can and some crummy coleslaw and fries. The pasty was big and ok for a pasty.
