The sandwiches here are huge. They are packed full of all the good stuff. Breads are fresh and they have a great selection of meats, cheeses, and breads to build your masterpiece. You could easily split it with a buddy. They lost a star for the $11. We wasted on a quart of tortellini pasta salad. I took a bite and there was NO flavor. I was surprised and disappointed. There were no flavors in the pasta. I tasted no garlic, tangy sun-dried tomatoes, feta, olives...any of the things that could have saved this pasta. Everyone said the same thing, bland and not worth the calories. A fantastic deli also has to have sides as good as their sammies. Spiteri's needs to work on this and then it will be a 5 star joint. I've been here many times, but most recently last weekend. I don't have much reason to be in Chico anymore, so Spiteri's has become a must visit place any time I am in town. There's no big secret, it's just simple sandwiches and sides made from high quality ingredients. Due to covid, they don't have indoor seating but their patio affords plenty of room for distancing and the weather was beautiful so we ate there. I had the rosemary turkey sandwich on an onion roll with smoked cheddar. There were no complaints to be had about the sandwich. I didn't think I was that hungry and then suddenly the entire sandwich was gone. It was delicious. I also appreciate how versatile ordering can be. This time I wanted a whole sandwich but it's super easy to get half a sandwich and some kind of side like salad, pasta, or soup. They also sell full sized bags of chips, which are always a better deal than those tiny, individual sized chips and make so much more sense if you are two or more people dining together. Sandwiches are always lovely but heres my issue. I used to be obsessed with the red potato salad. The past few times I have gotten it, it has had an off putting smell as soon as you take the lid off. I took one bite today and I will be throwing the rest out. Not sure if its a recipe change, an old batch, or worst, they are not cleaning the containers/ display case frequently enough to keep things from going bad. All that being said, the workers are great. The lady that usually works the register, probably manager or owner, needs to stop with the attitude, especially towards her employees who are only doing their best. read more

Mood setting music as soon as you walk into the restaurant. Very established feel and look to the place as well. Our sandwiches were perfect and that is why I rated gave them five stars. Unfortunately our server only rates a three...when she was dishing up our order of potato salad she noticed something in the salad container and proceeded to remove it with her bare fingers. (no, she was not wearing gloves) I could not see what the item was she was trying to pick out, but this was not the way to go about it. We got the pastrami sandwich and the tri tip with auju (or however you spell it). The pastrami was delicious but the only thing I would warn about is getting the Dutch bread. Like the other comments mention it was a bit dried. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to taste but it felt like the top part of the bread was kind of chalky. Also the pastrami was only placed in the middle so when you got to the end of the sandwich, the only thing you were eating is bread and mayo. I like my meat to go off the side of the sandwich. The tri tip was alright only. Maybe if you prefer no veggies then you might like it but in my opinion the pastrami was way better than the tri tip. read more

Hands down the best sandwich shop in Chico. The only downside is the long line at 12 noon lunch time every day. Get there early or late as an alternative. What a fantastic deli! The moment we opened the front door the smell of fresh veggies slapped us right in the face. The menu is easy to understand and really straightforward; pick your meat, cheese, bread, and condiments. The chip selection is vast and they also have a whole bunch of other side dishes that you can order if you aren't feeling the chips. Fountain drinks are self-serve, but the beer is not (for obvious reason). I ended up ordering a turkey and ham on wheat with pepper jack. The sandwich was absolutely to die for. Remember the fresh ingredients I mentioned at the beginning of my review? The meat, the cheese, and the veggies were all perfect. I came in assuming that they would skimp on the meat, like so many other sandwich shops, so I ordered two meats. I wouldn't really call it a mistake, because I was delighted, but they put more than enough meat on their sandwiches so ordering the second meat wasn't really necessary. The meat and cheese were both so flavorful and the lettuce had the perfect crunch; the lettuce was also shredded, which I prefer on my sandwiches. My kids got the tuna on wheat with provolone and absolutely destroyed it. They said that the tuna was really good. They also ordered sides of the bacon mac & cheese and it was phenomenal. I'm pretty sure I actually ended up eating the majority of the mac myself because it was that good. I took a chance coming all the way to Chico to eat lunch. Well, not really as I was passing through here on company time for my work. After searching for a decent (non-Subway, Togo's, Quizno's) sandwich shop, I stumbled upon "Spiteri's Delicatessen" thanks to all of you loyal people at Yelp. I figured with 65+ reviews at 4.5 stars, my sandwich experience shouldn't be too bad. Well, let me be the judge of that and see how good this place is! "Spiteri's Delicatessen" is located in the northern part of Chico; off the beaten path in a small shopping center off of East Ave. and Cohasset Rd. The nice thing about this place is that its not close to Chico State so you won't get the place flooded with hungry college kids. However, there is a high school nearby so I advise to not come here when they're on lunch or getting out of school. Parking was a breeze though and by the looks of it, I almost wondered if this place was even open. It looked so dark from the outside. But after opening the doors, it was packed with customers eating as well as many people waiting in line just to order. I arrived here around 1:15pm on a Tuesday December afternoon. It was quite busy but the line moved quickly as I was ready to order within 5 minutes after entering. The inside is quite generous as there are plenty of tables that can accommodate small and large groups. Additionally, the deli area offers a vast amount of salads, pastas, potato/macaroni/pasta salads, and olives. They also offer many different sides to compliment your sandwich that includes several types of chips and soups. I kept this meal as simple as possible by ordering a "1/2 turkey & Swiss" (on Dutch crunch bread) with a side of their soup of the day (for $5.95). And since I was fighting a little cold, I was pleasantly surprised to hear they were serving "Bacon & Potato Soup", one of my personal favorites. The lady asked if it was for here or to-go and this thing was ready within 3 minutes! I paid the young man behind the counter and proceeded outside to my vehicle to eat my sandwich. As I have been spoiled by eating some of the best sandwiches in my two hometowns of San Francisco and Sacramento, I do have to say that "Spiteri's Delicatessen" does a fairly decent job in making a good quality sandwich. The Dutch crunch bread was soft while there was an abundance of turkey layered inside my sandwich. And of course it offered a nice amount of sliced Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pickles. The soup tasted excellent as there were noticeable large chunks of potatoes complete with bits of bacon throughout each spoonful. And the broth was not too salty which is just the way I like it. I have to say, if you are looking for a decent quality sandwich and reside within a 25-mile radius to Chico, I do suggest giving "Spiteri's Delicatessen" a try. They offer a nice meat selection (turkey, ham, roast beef, pastrami, liverwurst, salami, meatloaf, mortadella, and coppa) while offering several variations of cheese and breads to truly customize your sandwich to your liking. I understand that covid effects a lot of things. My most recent and probably last experience in this establishment was terrible. The staff was extremely rude, they were screwing around and horse playing in the kitchen area while we waited the longest time I've ever waited ( they were not busy). The girl who was taking orders needs to put her own political views aside while at work. The commentary in the back was very inappropriate in any work place.
