This used to be one of my go-to diners, but in the last couple years they have scaled back on their operating hours. They used to be open for dinner. Now I believe they are only open for breakfast and dinner. I adored coming here when I could. The service was rarely below par - they had many excellent waitresses, and the food was never not delicious. I would often get a burger, some chicken, a sandwich, or whatever other tasty morsel they had on their menu. Still of a fan of this diner but would be nice if they were open a little bit longer. Went to this restaurant this morning for breakfast while waiting for my car repair work to be completed at my car dealership had the build your own breakfast and unfortunately, did not read the menu carefully. I went to discover the deceptive tactics this restaurant uses to bolster their profits. Great local diner for a quick bite. Reminds me of a Denny's. Lots of selection on their menu, very friendly staff, we had Chris who has worked their for 31 years. My son had the all meat omelet with hash browns and toast. He said it was yummy. I selected three items on their "build your own" for 9.49$. The biscuit and gravy was the kind of gravy I like and the eggs over medium were perfect! The dinning room was very clean and large! I've eaten at this place a few times and I've come to realize that it's kind of gross here, probably won't be back. The older blonde lady that has too much energy is friendly but doesn't seem to have common food handling skills. Last time I ordered waffles and set aside the margarine because I didn't want it, she told me to put the margarine right in her hand so she could get rid of it. Today when she brought me my water her hands were all over the rim where I would be putting my mouth. I stopped in around 2:15pm on Tuesday with a friend for a quick brunch before they closed at 3. Upon walking up to the entrance I had gotten Cozy Diner vibes. My friend had let me know they were managed by the same owner or something of that nature. I thought that was pretty cool and was now even more excited because Cozy had a great breakfast to offer when I visited before! Our server was so sweet and didn't make us feel like we were a hassle for showing up 45 minutes before closing. I chose the Homestyle Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich and my friend had opted for the $7.99 cheesburger deal. The sandwich had FRESH toppings! The lettuce and tomato were healthy and filled with life. The experience and service was so good that we went back the very next day. Yup you guessed it, we got the same treatment and had quality food served. Our new friends Christina and Donna treated my girlfriend and I like family. They made us feel as if we were at home and had us laughing just about the whole time we were there. Ordered on GrubHub.....after almost 20 minutes, I was notified my order was cancelled because the order was not acknowledged by the restaurant. Ok....maybe they're busy at 930 on a Saturday morning. I reordered on GrubHub, and called the restaurant to verify they received the order...and to check they weren't having issues with GrubHub. The phone rang...and then I heard, "What do you need?" I kinda laughed because I thought maybe the woman was talking to someone as she picked up the phone...but, no. That rudeness was directed at me. I asked if she could verify receipt of my order from GrubHub. And she promptly responded that they didn't have ANY GrubHub orders. Upon asking if they were having issues with GrubHub, the response, "I don't know. Maybe it's us...maybe it's them." And then, "You have to give the order to me, but then you have to come pick it up." I said, "no thank you" and hung up even though I wanted to say so much more. She was just rude and it was uncalled for. I went back to the GrubHub app and saw the driver was at the restaurant, so I waited to see what would happen. I'm guessing the driver was able to show my order and was nice enough to wait for it. We usually order from Kalico Kitchen on Saturday mornings and the orders are usually accurate and the food is always good. Today....they didn't pay any attention. Gave toast instead of a biscuit. Used bell peppers instead of onions, and the toast...we had to laugh. They slapped the butter on the toast...like a LOT of butter. It was all over the inside of the bag and just slathered on two pieces of the toast, while the other two pieces of toast were almost completely dry. We will probably order from them again, but, if they do not want to accept food app orders then they should remove themselves from those services because had we not known that the food was good here, this experience would not have done them any favors in a difficult restaurant market right now. read more

I won't lie the food is bomb and very flavorful. Potatoes and bacon on point but OH BOY! I PAID DEARLY IN THE BATHROOM! I mean my stomach was doing flips and I couldn't leave the bathroom for a good hour! Plus not my waitress but the one other waitress was being ridiculously loud and almost screaming in a very high pitch voice. Not really a good atmosphere. If I could a negative star I would!! The host was extremely rude and he had no customer service skills. I purchased a Togo order for myself and my daughter. It was DISGUSTING!! the eggs had a horrible taste the bacon was so salty you couldn't even eat it and the pancakes could hardly be cut with there plastic knife. My daughter took one tiny bite out of her ham refused to eat the eggs and wouldn't eat the burnt hash browns. When I took the food back I was telling the host what was wrong I was trying to be quiet so other customers couldn't hear my complaint but he was so rude and talking loud I was embarrassed. Sucks. I loved this place. I would always recommend this place to everyone. Since COVID they went down so much. I was charged extra money from them and they have zero accountability whatsoever. I have been going for years to this restaurant and never got this extra charge they keep saying is from my back but clearly saying its from them. I will not be returning nor will I ever be referring anyone to this place ever again. Six months ago, as an intern at the Chico News & Review, I was able to write a clip about Kalico Kitchen in the Fall '10 Best Of - Editor's Picks. They deserved it.
