I recently had had some tragedies with my bangs; two different stylists previously have not been able to get the length or thickness I like for my bangs, but I was paired with Cindy and she did a great job! I love coming to this place. Everyone is really sweet and even if your just getting a haircut you feel like you are at a spa. They start you off with tea and a relaxation neck, shoulder and hand massage. The girls listen too you when you tell them how you want your haircut. I always have a great experience and I was surprised by how many boys come here for haircuts as well. I guess boys like being pampered also. I went in today for a recolor because the dye job I got from the last salon I went to faded out fast. I had Kourtney and she did an amazing job. She listened to the concerns I had about my last dye job and about how I wasn't looking to trim my ends just yet. She suggested a treatment to help the ends last until my next cut which I appreciated. She gave me the mini massages they do and a face cleanse after my last rinse. I enjoyed the experience and felt like I was in and out in a reasonable time. Most salons I am itching to leave because it takes so long. I went here for my first time yesterday and actually got my appointment changed from a different stylist to Kayla upon arriving. I told her what I had in mind and she did an incredible job at cutting my hair to make a style that works great for me. She had a bubbly personality and I could tell she wasn't rushing things at all which was relieving. This was one of the best salon experiences I have ever had between the quality of the cut, personality of the stylist, and atmosphere. I have had my trimmed a couple different times by Rebecca, she is great! I love the fact that she listens to the fact that I only want a trim, NOT a cut! The prices here are great, a haircut/trim is only $35! My boyfriend gets his haircut here as well, and his hair looks great! He introduced me to this salon and we both enjoy the staff and service. 3 Stars for an "A-OK". They didn't really lack anything, I just wasn't overwhelmingly impressed. I love Aveda products, so I thought I would try out this salon. I used to go to Gila Rut, so I figured it would be similar. This salon is fairly small and I felt really close to the clients next to me. I went in for a haircut and asked to keep as much length as possible, but cut my dead ends and clean it all up. Well...all she did was trim the bottom. I wanted to walk out of the salon with a fresh haircut, something a little new...but I left with the same haircut, just ends trimmed. They did sell me on some great products. read more

In 2012, I went here for my wedding hair and makeup, after getting a really bad trial at another salon. They totally came through...my bridesmaids and I all looked wonderful. They are also really reasonably priced, and do a great job with makeup. Dulce is an excellent makeup artist and gave me a lot of tips and recommendations (I don't usually spend a fortune on makeup but I splurged a couple times because their products are really good, and she found products that looked great and I still use everyday). I've consistently gone to Ashley for haircuts and I've been really happy. For the last year I've lived in LA, but when I visit San Diego I actually try to go there for a haircut, since I haven't found anyone as good in LA yet! read more

Cindy is an absolute godsend. I came in with incredibly damaged hair, and probably one of the worst DIY boxed hair color jobs north of the border. Cindy was very cautious to use only the most delicate gentle products for my hair, and work step by step to ultimately achieve an end result that I could not have been any happier with. When I moved to San Diego in 2011 I spent the first few months trying to find the perfect person to help me deal with this disaster called my hair. I tried some nice salons, I tried a few cheaper hole in the wall types of places, and then I came here. I was randomly given Cassie, and since then I haven't let anyone else touch my hair. She is very, very good with guys' hair. I recommend her to my friends, and they go and love it too. She has done crazy things with my hair (imagine a male Cruella de Vil) and she has also done clean professional cuts for me. They all turn out perfectly. What an awesome salon! My girlfriend wanted to donate her hair to Wigs For Kids. They knew exactly what to do and how to prepare get hair. I've been coming to Split Ends for about 8 years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I've been to quite a few other hair salons and some of the things that stand out include 1) great customer service, the ladies are so personable and sweet. Antonet, who's been helping me for the past few months grow out and thicken my hair with regular cuts and awesome products, is down-to-earth and friendly to everyone. 2) they do these little complimentary facials that feel awesome with Aveda products which smell great and never irritate my skin after they wash your hair. Trust me, they're hella soothing :) 3) They have been able to fix my hair after other places have made my hair look choppy and thin. One time in particular, I came in with layers that looked like an upside-down staircase and they worked magic in giving me a really cute A-line that I basically have kept as my main style for the past 3 years. I could go on and on but I'll 'cut it short' in saying that Split Ends is my favorite salon in San Diego hands down! read more

I will say right up front that I am super picky when it comes to my hair. My best friend is a stylist and has been doing my hair for as long as I can remember. When she moved up north last year I needed to find a new salon. Imagine my dread. I even let my roots grow out for a while, I was so nervous to try someone new. And then I met Candice. She brought me into Split Ends and I swear I will never leave. Candice and her assistants did such a great job on my cut and highlights! It was exactly what I pictured in my mind and I have gotten a zillion compliments since. The price was right too; actually cheaper than other places around town. They even hook you up if you're a first time customer. Excellent personal attention to each customer, even though they're super busy. Each time I go back, I have a great time and look forward to going again. Oh, and there's a parking lot in back if you need, or a bike rack out front which is great. I LOVE these girls!! read more

I've been going to Aveda salons for years. Unfortunately, I have yet to find an Aveda salon in San Diego that I like nearly as much as the ones I went to in Orange County. Upon a friend's recommendation, I tried Split Ends. I've been to Julie once for my hair. She used a razor to cut my hair and I woke up the next morning with split ends everywhere, and my hair looking thin, stringy and AWFUL. And apparently she used permanent color without asking me what I preferred, which also wrecked my hair. Just FYI - don't get permanent color unless you have gray roots. You don't need it and it RUINS your hair! The Aveda demi color is great though and always conditions your hair wonderfully, which is why I have been getting it for years. Secondly, I tried Candace for haircuts and color. I went to her 4 times or so before I realized she was also using permanent color on my hair. Upon asking for demi instead, she argued with me and acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. Also, she never cut my hair exactly like I wanted it. I always wanted my layers shorter and she wouldn't do it. She would say something like "it looks good now" and not cut anymore off. Really annoying. Plus she and everyone else at the salon is extremely pushy about other services and products. I must have said no to about 10 recommendations so far. I would not recommend that anyone go to this salon. Everyone I have tried there seems both inept and pushy. And for the prices they charge, it should be a lot better! read more

I'm a guy, 30 years old and I don't require any special treatment for a haircut. I have always had, at any barber shop or salon that I've been to over the past 10 years, a normal men's haircut and nothing more. So when I first moved to PB about 8 months ago, that's all I was looking for. And based on my needs, I was looking for something affordable; I've seen salon's offering men's cuts for over $35 and really for what I wanted I wasn't trying to spend more than $20. I tried a couple of joints around town and was pretty disappointed. So one day my girlfriend finds Split Ends and really enjoys her experience with Cassie. Cassie gives her a 20% off coupon for new customers (ie me) to try it out. I'm skeptical I figured it wasn't for me but after she told me what I get for the price I had to try it. The important thing, however, is that you need to go to Cassie. Well you don't NEED to, in fact I'm sure all the people working there are great, and maybe you should call to see who will be best for your needs but I think they each set their own prices(?). And I found Cassie's price to be the cheapest and she's about my age and is pretty awesome. So I went with her and haven't looked back. SO - For a $21 you get: 1) Men's haircut - scissors or clippers or both 2) SCALP MASSAGE. Yes I put SCALP MASSAGE in caps because it's just rad. And yes I said "rad", I'm trying to bring it back. 3) Shampoo / Conditioner 4) FACIAL. Yes, also caps-worthy. 5) Whatever product you want in your hair for the rest of the day. $21, that's it. And if you're a first time guy you might even get 20% off w/out the coupon, just say Justin sent ya! haha, I dont know if that will work but it's worth a shot. The only thing she doesn't do is shave my neck w/ a straight razor, which I gotta say I sort of hoped for since I like the tight shave, but she still gets it w/ a nice set of clippers so I'm cool without it. And seriously the SCALP MASSAGE and shampoo AND FACIAL more than make up for it. I never had a facial before and dudes let me tell you - don't knock it till you tried it. It is "RAD". Overall I give it 5 stars for the treatment and the price. I mean it really feels like some sort of spa treatment (keep in mind I'm a guy and have never been to an actual "spa" per se). And seriously for $21 that's just as good as you can get. Definitely go to CASSIE though - she's got a great personality and a pretty sick memory. She always asks me about my girlfriend and if we did the things we talked about last visit which is usually about a month or 6 weeks prior. She has likely seen hundreds of people between visits and to remember that it was my birthday 6 weeks ago and what I planned on doing to celebrate is pretty impressive. I should mention that you do need an appointment but usually you can get one within a few hours. I've never had trouble getting an appointment that day. Good luck and enjoy the experience! While living in San Diego I always got my hair cut at Split Ends. The staff is incredibly friendly and always welcoming. They had recently did some renovations and made the interior looks great. I'm new to San Diego and desperately needed my hair done! I get blonde highlights and and am very nervous to let new people touch my hair, blonde is such an easy color to mess up. I went to Split Ends to see if they could get me in to get my high lights done along with a trim and a hair treatment. They said they could get me in the next day. When I went in for my hair appointment they were so welcoming! Offered me this delicious tea and started me off with a nice scalp massage. They wanted to know exactly what I wanted to do with my hair and explained every step they were gonna take and gave their opinion what they thought would work the best for my hair. My hair was very dry and had bad split ends and I was nervous they were gonna have to cut it short to make it healthy again. But the treatment they used on my hair worked so well that she only trimmed it up! The blonde came out amazing! Better then I expected it all blended so well, didn't have that strip look that some high lights can have. I was so happy the way my hair came out! Also the Split End team gave me a hand massage and facial, it was so calming and peaceful, I even told one of the girls that if I was quiet it was just because I was so calm and relaxed! After moving from Ohio and leaving a hairstylist behind after 8 years I was terrified of paying alot and finding a good stylist but luckily I came across this adorable salon and Candice, who is so sweet and has always done an amazing job and really listened to me and gave me her professional advice in regards to my cut and color appointments. I also love that during your shampoo they do a mini facial or while under the dryer you get a hand/forearm massage... SO relaxing :) Also I have very thin hair that is prone to breakage and since going to Candice and getting strengthening treatments, my hair is much stronger and much easier to work with. I would totally recommend this salon and ESPECIALLY Candice. read more

In the last three years I have moved three times, beginning my journey on the East Coast. Finding a permanent hair salon has not been the easiest task. The first time I went into Split Ends Hair Salon I knew I found my new hair salon. In July I went to a hair salon in PB that had glued in hair extensions, in August I returned to that hair salon to have them removed. The salon removed these extensions by using acetone and pretty much ripped them out. My hair was a hot mess, I was embarrassed to go into public. I called Split Ends from a yelp advertisement and they were able to get me right in. The first visit to Split Ends was my first experience with Aveda products. It was also the end of my three year search to find a salon that I will be going to on a regular basis. Cindy was able to fix my hair in one visit. Cindy is very knowledgeable and willing to share her years experience with thorough answers to all my crazy hair care questions. I have been there three times now, I can honestly say I love my hair, Split Ends Hair Salon is the best salon I have been to, coast to coast, in the last three years. I was a die hard Bumble and Bumble fan, now I will only purchase Aveda products. The salon is a little pricey, but it is well worth it...Aveda offers a rewards card called Pure Privilege, I recommend you purchase this for $10.00 and start collecting points towards more great products and services. read more

Cannot say enough good things about this place! My friend whom I was visiting in San Diego suggested that we get our hair done so on an impulse I decided to get highlights as well. I felt so comfortable with Ashley that I actually decided to do a trim too. Needless to say, she did a wonderful job and I have been getting lots of compliments on my hair! This salon has BY FAR the best number of extras that I have ever seen...you receive a complimentary scalp massage when you sit down, a hand massage as your hair sets, a facial when they wash your shampoo and a makeup application at the end of your appointment. Everyone who works there was incredibly nice and friendly, and my friend and I had an awesome time! I wish that I lived year-round in Pacific Beach to go back here more often! Dulce is the best! I normally have never cared too much about who does or where my haircuts are. But that all changed last spring. I decided to chop off all my hair to donate to Pantene beautiful lengths. A friend who was also a stylist was dying to do my hair and like an idiot, I let her. She didn't listen or pay attention to what I said or showed her and I ended up with a terrible pixie. Finally after trying several places I stumbled upon Split Ends. Dulce has been my stylist for the past few months and is amazing at what she does. She's always very detailed and helpful if I can't make a decision or if I have one that she thinks I might regret later. I love her! I also love the scalp massage and the face wash they give. I came in very scared about getting my hair done. I had a bad experience with couple hair salons and wasn't sure what I would be walking into. By far did split ends surprise me and almost made me cry I was very happy with my hair. Sami did a balayage and wow did she hit it on point!!! This is the type of salon you go to you when you need to get in ASAP and are expecting nothing great but need the service regardless The first time I came in I only came in for a blowdry ( easy right ? ) I walked out looking like A HOT MESS! My hair was flipped out on the ends, it was super frizzy and generally looked terrible. To make matters worse the stylist tried pushing products on me the entire time. The second time I needed highlights last minute and no one else had openings. I walked in at 2:45 for my 3:00 app...3:05 rolls around and no one has come to get me....being patient but getting annoyed....waiting....3:10...a couple girls come up to the desk and gossip about their personal lives...a couple minutes later one of them looks up at me and says " are you waiting to get your hair done?" ....(WOW REALLY...) " Your my next... my name is ___ come back this way " This particular stylist had been standing around THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THERE...helllo...someone wasn't doing their job. No one apologized or said anything about the facet that I sat there for about 30 minutes waiting..wow...great start to my appointment. I'm not even gonna get into the details of the appointment. I basically told her what I wanted and she disagreed and went off on a whole tangent about how I should have something else done. My hair color looked good when I left which is why I put 2 stars. read more

Love it!! Everyone is very talented. Go in with dirty hair, no makeup, and in desperate need of a haircut and you will come out stunning. They give you a great scalp massage then a relaxing wash. After your cut, they will give you a complementary make up application. A little bit of a sales pitch comes along with whole experience, but just say no and they move along to another topic. If you want it, then you will go home with a great suggested product. Great warm tea will accompany you during the entire appointment. I was new to town and have gone back three time since moving to San Diego and making my first appointment. Their products are not tested on animals and all Aveda, bonus!!! Hard to keep away from the wide variety of products at other salons that might not have the same considerations for animals. read more
