    bed bugs

truly don't know where to begin. When we arrived to check in, they had run out of room keys. Every time we left the room, we had to wait for a security guard to walk us back and unlock it, which continued until about midnight on our first day. The room was extremely outdated and in serious need of improvement. There was a terrible smell throughout the room that was absolutely disgusting. The water was either freezing cold or burning hot, making it impossible to shower comfortably. To make matters worse, out of the nine rooms my family rented, we found bedbugs in seven of them. When I went to speak to the manager the next morning to report the issue, she casually asked if we would like them to wash our clothes and said, "It's not a big deal." That response was completely unacceptable and showed a lack of concern for the seriousness of the situation. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing and upsetting.

    A very busy arcade.

I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling reading a lot of these reviews and not sure why. We came up with some friends and stayed in a villa across the street from the main lodge and had a wonderful time. It was two bedrooms with a hot tub and sauna. It was amazing we walked into a very clean environment and just had to set it up for ourselves for the next couple of days I always feel that people come to certain places with certain expectations that are not easily met also there is very little that can't be fixed so before you complain about it see what can be done to rectify the situation. All we did was enjoy our three days up in the Poconos. We took some drives around the area, cooked some fun meals and went to the main building one night to go to the game room play some. Participated in bingo, trivia but not bowling, which was available to us. The staff here is fabulous and helped any way they could. It snowed while we were up there and the plows came quickly and cleared up everything as quick as can be to make the driving easy for us very easy. This was my first time up here and hopefully we'll be returning next year with our friends. KUDOs to the team at Split Rock Resort.

This hotel has massive violations. The elevator wasn't working. They have construction and waste debris not contained in their upper parking lot. The shower didn't operate in our hotel room and front desk didn't seem to take note or seem concerned. The amenities, if you could call them that, were reserved for private events without advance notice to other guests. Do not stay here. If you have a reservation cancel it now. This place needs a total overhaul.

Fitness center and indoor pool were dirty and water damaged no towels available in pool or fitness center. No cleaning products available to wipe down fitness equipment. Room had bugs in light fixtures, bugs in corners of bathroom, not enough towels in room. Burner was broken on stone in room and mini fridge didn't keep temperature. Broken pool tables in billiards room. So dirty we left early

    Very dated room

First, the decor looks like it's been there since the place first opened up. Very dated. The sofabed mattress definitely needs replacing as it was hard and uncomfortable. There are too many dangerous things for a small child to get into. There were outlets that my child kept trying to touch and there were no outlet covers. I had to chase him around to make sure he didn't get into anything. The room itself has an open concept kitchen and no way to keep a child from going in there while you're cooking. The biggest security issue is the door. You can't lock the door. If a child pulls the handle the door will open and they can run out. It happened in my room as well as my sister's. My mother and I both slipped in the bathroom shower. Some safety bars would be helpful. I would not recommend going if you have smaller children, but if you must, bring a roll of duct tape so you can cover the exposed outlets and maybe something to tie the cabinet doors together.

We booked a 3 day family stay at the lodge from December 27th to December 30th at ~$315/night. - Lodge: It feels like an abandoned place. There is no front desk manager. If you try to call the phone number provided at the front desk, no one will pick up. I asked when Breakfast would be served. The resort staff said 8am, the janitor said 9am. No one had a clue and during breakfast you had to walk around the lodge to find staff to replace empty food items. - Amenities: The lodge has an indoor pool that has mold on ceilings, dirty jacuzzi (lots of sand inside) and the sauna was broken, dirty towels everywhere and no one on site. It looked like it had not been cleaned in ages. There are also supposed to be dining options but again, everything was closed. - Rooms: Internet is weak and spotty. Absolutely no way to work or do a zoom call. Also, our TV did not work (no cable and unable to connect to internet). Others on the same floor complained about brown water coming out of their sinks. - The town center resort: It takes ages to check in. The resort has several amenities including arcade, bowling and indoor pool. The arcade was entertaining for the kids but many of the games were broken. When you try to exchange the arcade tickets for prices ... good luck finding staff to do so. The indoor pool was cold and again not well maintained. It felt dirty (I.e, trash in the corners, floors black from dirt, etc.). - H2ooohh waterpark: The "ohh" probably stands for "oh my"! Two adults and one kid will cost you ~$100. That does not include a locker ($22/day) and towels (not even the hotel towels are allowed). The whole place was disgusting. There was mold, trash, dirt. One kid fell of his tube on the slide and rode down without it. His shirt was covered in brown gunk when he got out. I don't understand how this park passes any inspections. The hotel management is fully aware of the issues. Every time I went to the resort front desk, someone was complaining about their stay. Needless to say, we checked out a day early and got another hotel. For over $300/night this place is a rip off and management should be ashamed of it.

We arrived around 10:30AM (park opened at 10AM). Rented 2 lockers to hold our dry items, you either need to use a card or use exact cash - small lockers are $10 and large lockers are $12. That gains you access to the lockers for 24 hours, with as many in/outs as you need. There was a decent crowd but not overcrowded. We easily found 8 lounge chairs together to place all of our towels and flipflops down (we highly suggest wearing flipflops to the park). The kids enjoyed the non-working wave pool, the 3 slides, wave rider (surf machine). The adults enjoyed the hot tub. The wave pool and wave rider had warm water, the hot tub had hot water. Two of the slides are for 1-2 riders and one of the slides was for 3+ riders. The water for the 3+ riders was rather cold but the slides also go outside and this is the middle of January. The hot tub only allows those 18 and over, which was a nice treat for the adults. There is a tiki bar inside the water park with margaritas, frozen drinks, and beer - a decent mix of options. The bartender was extremely friendly, as were all the staff. There is a food stand with a large mix of options and the food was okay, with typical prices for this type of revenue. Everyone had a good time and we ended up spending 6 hours total at the water park. All in all, it was well worth the admission fees and is a place we would return to.

My main feedback: They claimed to be understaffed waiting for international students, but if that is the case, I would have loved to know what was closed before paying to enter or be offered the opportunity to return on a day when I could justify the ticket price. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the vibrant atmosphere that felt both family-friendly and tailored to adults. The water park was a huge hit with our two girls, offering a wide array of slides that catered to all ages. Whether it was the thrilling rides or the relaxing wave pool, there was always something to keep the whole family entertained. One standout feature of our trip was the food. In previous resort experiences, we've often found ourselves disappointed by the dining options, but Kalahari shattered those expectations! The variety and quality of meals were truly exceptional. From quick snacks and Starbucks coffee, to gourmet meals at one of their multiple restaurants, every bite was delicious. It was refreshing to find such a diverse menu that pleased my wife, the kids, and me. We also appreciated the thoughtful layout of the resort. It was easy to find comfortable places to relax, and while it did take some hunting , we did manage to find a table each day. The array of jacuzzis was another bonus, with both family-friendly and 21-and-over options. Overall, our stay at Kalahari Resort Poconos was filled with fun and memorable moments. I regretted it right away. It's ridiculously crowded - no problem with parking as they sure made extra space in the back, but driving to the back woods parking lot I was afraid we were gonna hit someone cos of people walking indifferently on the paths. The tiny "beach" is made of hard packed sand, the texture of a dirt road. There are many garbage cans around, which, I appreciate that as there's nothing worse than trash on the ground, but I also don't want to be sitting next to one. There are some picnic tables in the further grassy areas that seemed more chill but the tables close to the water could not be crammed any closer together. The water where kids are playing in is murky and gross looking, as to be expected cos sediments stir up, but this just does not look clean and is way too full of people. And I would not call this a water park - it's a lake with some dingy play structures on it and some boat rides. There also don't seem to be enough lifeguards for this many kids. Summer prices (July 1-Aug 20) are $20pp over 9yo, and $18 for under 9, but you have to pay additionally for the water slides ($13-$17) and other activities. You might as well take your family to a proper waterpark for this price. Maybe once upon a time it was cute as people seem to have nostalgic memories of this place (and they definitely trade on the camp nostalgia), but it seems the park operator is only interested in packing in as many people as possible to the detriment of the experience. There is good live music with a guy playing old time rock n roll, they have hash browns yay (3 for $2.50), and my toddler had fun regardless of my lack of enjoyment or relaxation, hence the extra star.

Yes, the hotel is slightly older, but contrary to the other reviews, it wasn't as horrible as others have said--maybe it was because we had lowered expectations going in, but in fact we were pleasantly surprised. THIS IS NOT A 5-STAR HOTEL PEOPLE, SO GET OVER IT. It is a decent hotel, one of the least expensive in town, and definitely worth what we paid. PROS: The breakfast: more than just "grab and go." It was scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal/milk, bagels, toast, yogurt, juices, tea, coffee and more. It was buffet style and the staff were on top of refilling food and cleaning tables promptly. The pool: clean, clear, WARM! Very chlorinated-expect red eyes. The rooms: clean, comfortable, pretty much like any other middle of the road hotel. WiFi is free and worked better than cell service in this mountainous area. Tv was new, fridge and hairdryer were standard. Pretty quiet as well. The staff: awesome. The price: terrific. THE CONS: It was a little nerve wracking going up and down the hill to the hotel in the snow (December). They plow, but I'm not sure they salted the road, it seemed icy. We made it fine even though we were in a Ford Fusion and a small light Honda Fit. Yes, the key cards reset and locked us out even though we were booked for 2 days. Guy behind us in line in the lobby was having the same problem. I would suggest to the management, that since they clearly know this is a problem, just tell people when they check in that they could have a problem with this and apologize ahead of time and say that you are working in the problem. The rooms: as stated, clean, but a weird white grainy powder on the top of the bedspread. It was sort of like when you use too much powdered laundry soap and it doesn't rinse out all the way--or maybe the maids sprinkled carpet powder before they left and it overshot onto the bed--I have no idea. It was not IN the bed sheets, so we just shook it off the top and got over it. Then when we unfolded the sofa bed and just re-folded it back up, we noticed that a french fry fell out and there were also a few crumbs on top of the outer blanket in the sofa bed. Again, inside the sheets were clean. Minor, but annoying. Plumbing: toilets were a little slow. One shower (we had adjoining rooms) would not shut off completely and ran a medium stream all night. We felt horrible about all the wasted water, but it was really late and kids were asleep, so we didn't call the desk. :( Structure: I would suspect they have been trying to update and remodel. Room seemed newly painted, but certainly not a perfect paint job (paint on lamps, blotches here and there of dark paint we at first thought was blood, an unpainted water spot above the shower, etc). One old tiny elevator working (and one broken)-- IT REALLY WAS NOT A BIG ISSUE OR PROBLEM. Room heaters were a bit inefficient and inconsistent, but not terrible. Some of the the double-pane windows have become unsealed, so foggy and difficult to see outside. OVERALL: pretty decent for the low cost. No, it is maybe not like a sandals resort, but come on people, look at the room price. Never once saw a bug. Staff was great and extremely accommodating. They seem to be really trying to get the place looking better. It wasn't the Ritz, but it wasn't a roach motel either. WOULD DEFINITELY STAY THERE AGAIN.
