Spoke & Steele is the restaurant/bar in the Le Meridien Hotel in downtown Indy. My wife and I went here for a cocktail so this review is just based on that. We didn't order food, but the food did look diverse and interesting. A few notes: 1) Service: Our server was excellent and helpful! 2) Atmosphere: It's romantic and a great spot for a date. 3) Cocktails: They looked impressive, but were just okay. The atmosphere suggests you'll have the best cocktail in your life. We had the bartender make us both custom drinks and they were just okay. Not bad, but not the best we had in Indy. read more

When a friend of mine saw that I checked in at the NFL Scouting Combine, he messaged me and recommended I pop over to Spoke and Steele for my late lunch. Since I trust him and Spoke and Steele is just a short 0.4 mile walk from Lucas Oil Stadium, I did. The place was absolutely buzzing with energy largely because Nike had a room upstairs where they were wining and dining folks in town for the NFL Combine. I sat at the bar and met guys on either side of me who were in town for it. Spoke and Steele is inside of an old 1928 building next door to St. Elmo's Steak House and Harry and Izzy's. The decor inside is sleek and classic with a nod to racing. Zoe was my bartender and she was amazing. She was so polite, and not in a fake, sickenly sweet way, but in a genuine classy way. Very refreshing. I bellied up to the bar, ordering a draft beer and a plate of parm frittes, but she made me feel like I had just ordered their best wine and a rare filet mignon. Visited spoke and steele before a concert on Saturday night. Lets say they were pretty busy! Our server Taylor seemed a little frazzled to say the least but she did a great job caring for me and my friends . The manager came by with a big smile and checked on, more than once, and we felt very welcomed. Food was slow to come out but that's to be expected. Well it is beautiful inside, unfortunately we were unable to eat here today because we waited to be seated as the sign said...and saw 3 employees doing nothing that seemed to be urgent, I even loc eyes with one of them. We decided to leave and are now eating at Goodwood across the street where we were instantly greeted and have already ordered! During quick stop in Indy, and in need of a drink and dinner, I opened up my handy-dandy Yelp app, and voilà, I was immediately intrigued by Spoke & Steele modern upscale vibe, as well as their craft cocktail menu and delicious dinner options. Was able to secure a reservation for four easily; however, when we arrived, we did have to wait about 15 minutes for our table to be ready. No worries, we could see they were busy and working at a reduced capacity. For beverages I had the Old Northside, a mezcal-forward tequila based beverages, and shooo, it was strong! I could only have one. And opted for a vodka soda after. A friend had their Old Fashioned, and tbh that was the winner. As for dinner, we decided to just split a couple apps since no one was extremely hungry. We ordered the mushrooms, brussels, potatoes, and house bread. Everything was good, with the mushrooms being the standout for me. But nothing was like head-over-heels amazing either. Regardless, we enjoyed what we ordered. We ended the meal with a round of espresso martinis, which were delicious. The biggest room for improvement here is their service. They were busy, so I feel bad saying it, but often times we were left wondering where our waitress went, and when she would come by, she'd take the drink order then run off, without a second to put in any food order. The perfect setting for a fun night out with delicious cocktails and amazing food. First the atmosphere is wonderful, not too loud so you can actually hear your friends but a fun night out vibe with trendy decor, low lights, and comfy seating. We started with cocktails that are fun, unique, and beautifully presented. I had the Deja Vu which was so delicious I ordered a second. We also had the ceviche special and shishito peppers as our starters. Both were made GF but their chips are fried in a shared fryer so if you have celiac they are a no go. For dinner I had the shrimp and grits that are GF and those were phenomenal. A beautiful presentation and the layers of flavors were out of this world. To close out the meal I got a free dessert for my birthday which any of their gelato or sorbets are GF. Located in the heart of downtown area you will have to most likely pay for parking on the street unless your parking on Sunday when parking is free. It is located attached to one of the downtown hotels so if you're busy Indianapolis you could just go for my hotel room to the restaurant. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and people were spaced out in the restaurant. I had the Broad Ripple as my cocktail for the evening and it was great and beautiful you're prepared, it even had cocktail art, I'm not sure that's a name of some thing but what I'm trying to get out is the same thing is latte art. To eat I had the lamb meatballs and they were delicious and very flavorful. I really like the bread that came on the side with it as well. Personally I just felt that for the price of the dish it could have had a little bit more depth to it but it still was delicious. I felt like there were many great options on the menu but for the price of some of the items on the menu I think that they truly need to add some more creativity to the options. I would most definitely go back to the spot for the rest of their cocktail options as I felt they were a great quality and somewhat boozy. A real test of a restaurant is how they handle the sudden large intoxicated crowd. We squeezed in last minute reservations before the Big Ten Championship game so the place was busy with irregular customers (I guess that's the best way to put it). Service didn't even seem strained, we were treated quite well from hostess to waitress. The food was excellent, I had an escarole in a unique yogurt sauce with a combination of tastes that was brilliant. This was on the specials list so I don't know what else they have but next time I'm in the Circle City I'm definitely dining here. Parking was a problem, but it was an event night. The restrooms are hidden upstairs (plan ahead) but I got to spy on the private dining rooms and this looks like an excellent choice for a special event. The men's restroom is clean and elegant, I appreciated that. Good wine list. The bill was maybe a bit high, I don't really know what the going rate for fine dining is downtown Indianapolis but the food was top class and they let me keep the pen. read more

We went here for a Friday night dinner. It was busy but appeared as though there was not a wait (we made a reservation). The menu was lacking vegetarian options- they had just one entree. We split the raclette Gouda mustard potatoes for a starter and were in love. This could easily serve 3-4 people if you aren't overly hungry! For our entrees, my boyfriend chose the salmon which had a beautiful crisp skin and warm pink center. Expertly seared. My main was a chicken breast and broccolini. Both entrees came with puréed potatoes which were IMO too buttery (and that's saying a lot because mashed potatoes are meant to be buttery...) Downtown parking is never great, but we were within three or four blocks. I love the decor and low lighting of this restaurant. It's cozy and chic and warm all at the same time. A wonderful place for any mature meal or drink. We saw the table next to us order the bread pudding and holy cow was it huge! Literally the size of a softball. It could serve 3-4 people. Then we get seated , after the host took his sweet and precious time cleaning off tables , to be told we couldn't order the brunch menu . We had to order lunch , we went there specifically for the brunch , but was told they weren't serving anymore eventhough it was only 12:30 and they don't open that early . Got our patty melts and it was over cooked . We got no truffle on any part of our meal . Oddly placed triangle tomatoes . Frustrated waiting staff . It's just a mess . Went to brunch this am. Great atmosphere. Hostess was so sweet and welcoming. Great service / waiter! Food - we got chilaquiles and the BMLT (added a fried egg). Omgggg. So so good. The chilaquiles had such great fresh flavor. Jalapeños were so tasty. I think maybe fried egg would be better but it was delish. The BMLT was amazing. Adding the egg was everything. So so so good. If you have a chance to eat breakfast here, I highly recommend that you try the biscuits and gravy. They come with two sunny side up eggs on top with a side of homemade hot sauce. I went to Spoke & Steele for dinner with a work group on a Thursday evening. Things to note: 1. There is off street parking or garage parking at the Circle Center Mall. I don't think parking validation exist with the restaurant. 2. The restaurant is located inside Le Meridian. The decor inside the the restaurant is absolutely beautiful (modern/rustic). It looks like it came off an HGTV show. 3. Food- They are not afraid of seasoning at this restaurant. At times it was too aggressive. We tried a few appetizers (biscuits with local honey & butter was excellent! The hushpuppies left a lot to be desired. It was quite salty and dense). For the main course I tried the chicken two ways with brussel sprouts on the side. The dish was extremely spicy and I wasn't warned by the waitress. For my dessert I tried the bread pudding. Unfortunately it wasn't made with bourbon and the raisins were huge. 4. Service- Our waitress was nice but extremely slow. If you look at any of my reviews, brunches are my go to meal for any every occasion. I had a very special occasion to celebrate and basis some very high reviews decided to try Spoke and Steele. The location is in the heart of downtown and we didn't have a hard time finding street parking. The entrance had a very retro look and we could find no people inside. We checked and the server confirmed the place was open. It was about 10 am and we first ordered coffee. I ordered espresso with coconut milk and my partner ordered coffee. The coffee came in which was cold and not up to the mark. Similarly, the espresso was bland and tasteless. It just wasn't upto the mark. We then ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and roma tomatoes. The dish itself was sub par. Just avocados on toast with no flavor, wow factor or taste. We were so disappointed with our overall meal. The server said COVID was the reason why they had a limited menu and less options. Which honestly I get but what I didn't understand is the quality of the dish and coffee. Such a chic place, pricey food with absolutely no taste. I am still not sure why this place was top 10? High notes of the evening: -Welcoming waiter and quick service -Happy Hour cocktail deals -The shareable sides/appetizers, including: the spicy meatballs, addictive frites with a special sauce, and the Mormon Funeral Potatoes topped with cornflakes. Winners all around at our table. Spoke & Steele is located in the first floor of the Le Meridien (formerly Canterbury) boutique hotel. I wish its signage was a bit more prominent, as it can be easy to miss along Illinois (it's by St. Elmo's/Harry & Izzy's). Be loud and proud, S & S! Oh my...this menu...my boyfriend and I ordered one from each category, and we were in a food coma before our entree came out because we ate the Mormon Funeral Potatoes and Pork Belly Corn dogs first. Now, I'm not trying to steer you away from either, because they are crazy delicious, but I wouldn't suggest ordering both in the same meal, unless you love a good food coma. My wife and I were first introduced to Spoke & Steele at a Yelp event where Tyler showed us how they make their own spirits and how people can be a part of the spirit making. It intrigued us. So, this year we finally had the chance to visit the restaurant during Devour Downtown. It was a great experience. Our service was excellent. The waiter had tried everything on the menu and was able to give helpful suggestions. Based on what we ordered, we felt he was right on! We really enjoyed the food - both in taste and in decoration. I had the Goldenrod Eggs, Slow-cooked Scottish Salmon and for dessert - the Espresso Budino. My wife had the Meat & Cheese starter, Roast Chicken and Black forest for dessert. The spirits - we tried three of the spirit drinks designed by Tyler. Wow they were great. I loved my Le Mans Rough Rider. She had the Smoke and Spice - where the drink glass really is filled with smoke. I tried it as well - hard to say which was better - probably hers. For dessert I had a drink with the name "roadkill" in it. It was good - just cannot remember it's name. When I visited the restaurant, I did not eat an actual meal. I ordered the ILLY coffee and the decadent, flourless chocolate cake. The restaurant is decorated well with a minimalistic nature to it but still stylish. The ILLY coffee is watered down and does not taste appealing and I am tired of drinking ILLY coffee. I would like to see this restaurant serve a different coffee. The chocolate cake was just okay. If you order it, maybe order it with ice cream. The menu was extensive and I would like to go back and try the rest of the menu. The staff was nice but it took awhile to actually place an order as there were other guests. read more

My first trip here was for a Yelp event, and that left me excited to return to try out the full menu! The cocktail, beer and wine menu is quite extensive; they had just updated it today and it really was hard to decide. I opted for the Nueva Alemania which was excellent; tequila, orange, amaretto, and a touch of cinnamon. It was a little on the sweet side, but definitely not too sweet to go with food! We started with the special cheese appetizer; baked trillium triple brie from Tulip Tree. This is one of my favorite cheeses, and baking it managed to make a wonderful cheese even more amazing! I then had the snapper as my entree, which was nice and light, and the fish was cooked perfectly. We shared some of the funeral potatoes which were very good! They reminded me of a richer version of a dish we make for holidays - potluck potatoes. These were a cheesier version of those if anyone else out there knows what potluck potatoes are! We shared an apple crisp dessert which was excellent; the apples were fresh and cooked to a perfect crisp-tender texture. The topping and ice cream were delicious as well. Service was good! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, and gave us good recommendations. Courses were nicely timed and we weren't at all rushed. I'm looking forward to my next trip back! read more

Where to begin. This was truly the worst dining experience I've ever had in Indianapolis. The service was fine, which is the only reason I'm giving 1 star. Lamb chops were the smallest I've ever seen, cooked medium-well, and had more of a "mint cilantro smear", if you will, instead of the mint pesto. My husband's prime rib was truly the worst part. Cooked extremely well, dry/grisly texture, not served with the horseradish sauce (which is always served with prime rib). I really wanted to send our food back, especially considering our server never checked back during the meal. Oh, we were also only 1 of 3 tables there the entire night. Yikes, please just don't go. Went here expecting perfection and boy was I wrong. I ordered a pasta dish that was spaghetti squash with zucchini, mushrooms, garlic and tomatoes. I ordered it to go. First it took 45 minutes to get my order. Second when i picked my order up it did not look like an entree it looked like a side order. It had great flavor but the portion was very small or a lid sized order. The pasta only had 3-4 pieces of sliced mushrooms, 1 half of a cherry tomatoes and a-lot zucchini. All for $24. Two entrees and the bottle of Malbec came out to be $127 and change before tip. I would have had a wee dram of Scotch to finish the meal, but the prices were just too inflated. A 21-year Balvenie Portwood was $50. You can purchase a bottle for $150. They were selling Monkey Shoulder for $12...a bottle is $36. I mean come on...it's the principle at that point. I can't say that I'd opt to visit again in the near future since there are so many restaurants in downtown Indy with better food at a similar price point or just as good a food at a lower price point, however, if someone in the group wanted to dine here I wouldn't be the veto. read more

I visited Spoke and Steele for the first time on NYE. The atmosphere is amazing! It's in a really cute hotel. The valet even showed us to the private rooms so we could see, one of which was this cool barrel room in the basement. The food was overall great. We didn't try the cocktails, just had wine, but we said we'd like to go back just to try the cocktails one time. We started with the oysters which were delicious. I had the ahi tuna as my entree. The tuna was cooked perfectly and came in this Asian type noodle bowl. It was really flavorful, but it was a little spicy for me. If I knew it was so spicy, I may have ordered something different. My husband ordered the chicken and loved it. The best part of the meal for us both was dessert. We had the nye special torte. It was similar to tiramisu and it was phenomenal! I even convinced the couple next to us to order it. My one downfall of this place is the price. It's really expensive, and I think there are places in Indy that are just as good and have similar menus for a lower price point. read more

(He had taken my appetizer silverware away, but didn't replace it). After he put forks down, he then walked off and I had to flag him down for a spoon to eat soup after it was placed before me. I also asked for extra pita triangles for our hummus appetizer (there weren't enough to begin with) but that was forgotten; when I reminded the waiter about the pita, he said he forgot but would get some more. The pita arrived after we were done with all of our entrees, and we were charged for it. I really like everything about this restaurant. From the decor to the staff. They are very familiar with the menu and always have good recommendations for entree's and drink pairings. This visit, I had the shrimp carpaccio with a barrel aged old fashioned to start. The waiter was fantastic, and even apologized with a glass of wine when he couldn't accommodate us quickly enough. We chose the steak frites (med rate of course) along with the salmon. Fantastic flavors, although my steak lost a little warmth on the way to my table. Two pieces of thick toast stacked sandwich style with just the right amount of cream cheese / berry filling & topped with fresh berries & maple syrup. Absolutely perfect & just enough for breakfast. My daughter and I also had the hazelnut iced coffee. A small glass (12 oz?) but delicious. My wife had the fresh blueberry pancakes (2 large) and my daughter had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which had a bit too much brown mustard, but much of it was on the plate as a garnish. We got the sweet potatoes as an appetizer, which was waffle styled sweet potatoes with BBQ seasoning and an aioli dip that didn't pair well. The salmon I ordered was very dry and basic.
