Three generations of my family went to Spoons for breakfast today. We all left very happy. Typically our three generations have very different expectations but Spoons satisfied us all. "Value" oriented Grandpa was satisfied. "Picky" grandkids were all very happy with their food and foodie daughter (Me) was happy that I could order my favorite healthy items. Spoons was everything we could expected and more. They offered a diverse menu, courteous staff, fantastic food and a pleasant no-frills atmosphere. Cozy cafe on the square, small outside dining area for humans who have furry friends. Staff is busy and could be a little more cozy in their table side manner, not bad just want that sweet waitress full of a small town spirit! Great diner on the square in McKinney. Went with a group of 3 for a midweek lunch. No wait and attentive service. We had a salad, a soup/salad combo and French toast, and everything was delicious. The salads were really fresh and the blush wine vinegarette is delicious! The pumpkin soup was smooth and tasty. The French toast was sugary and crisp. Went to Spoons a while back after a late night out. Serving all day breakfast is always a plus! My friend and I got the Omelettes along with chocolate chip pancakes and waffles. I would love to see someone open a place in McKinney that serves breakfast that shoots for high standards when it comes to the food quality. There is nothing wrong with this place from a service and physical location standpoint but I mainly frequent places for the food first and foremost. Sausage was the pull out of a package and reheat kind ya know its like eating a sausage sponge. No real butter just the fake stuff on the table. No raw sugar for my coffee. Love the location right on the square! The building is impressive and decor is both quaint and inviting. We arrived at opening on a Saturday morning and there was already a small crowd outside. By 8:15am when we were leaving, both the inside and outside were packed. I hadn't noticed from the menu online, but Spoons offers a breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. It wasn't a huge spread, but seemed to have plenty of options and be pretty popular. Even the waitresses were helping themselves! Service was average. It took us several minutes to have our drink order taken, but we wrote that off to being some of the first guests to arrive. Coffee was solid and orange juice comes in one size - large. Slightly disappointed that our waitress spilled orange juice in my fiancé's father's lap, but barely apologized. He is kindhearted and didn't mind at the slightest, but still. We all enjoyed our meals, but it was nothing to write home about. I ordered fresh fruit (grapes, strawberries, watermelon, honey dew, pineapple, and orange slices) and the oatmeal. I came into Spoons yesterday, my family and I go in all the time, and I was very upset with my experience. The servers and the food were good, as always, but I and many people around me overheard the owner, Karen, hounding her employees. I felt that It was completely unprofessional in what is supposed to be a "family" restaurant. It was just unsettling to see an owner have such disrespect for her employees, who were giving great service. I would have understood if the service was bad, but we had no problems with anything other than the owner causing a scene for no apparent reason. I love spoons and the food, but if this happens again, I'd have a hard time choosing spoons over any of the other great restaurants around for lunch. read more

This place is a gem. They're always busy and serve an eclectic array of comfort food and cafe classics. Their prices are unbeatable! Plus, breakfast is served all day. I ordered CHILI cheese fries and what did I get cheese fries that aren't even hot. They're luke warm at MOST. I said multiple times over the phone CHILI cheese fries. I ordered them at 2:30pm on 12/1/20 so who ever answered the phone at that time needs to be talked to on how to pay attention to what people are ordering. And there's not even cheese on most of the fries there's only cheese on the top layer. Spoons' food used to be so good but it's quite obvious this restaurant is going down the drain. I love Spoons! I'm a McKinney local, and it's the place I take everyone from out of town. It's a great place to take a break after shopping the square. It's kid friendly, but with a menu that will please everyone. My favorites include the veggie burger (made from scratch, not some hockey puck out of a freezer), breakfast tacos, and of course, the cupcakes. My husband likes the meatier fare like the burgers & meatloaf with AMAZING sweet potato fries. Sidenote: My hunny and I love to have brunch dates, but most places that are open for brunch the food is too girly or it's a formal event.
