8/22/25 Bartender insulted me and called me a mega white, then after I said on my assentors I will try to forgive that she said "oh you mean ur white ancestors" we left after that didn't even bother with drinks. It is with a heavy heart I have to give this place a bad review. I used to be a patron many years ago, and it always had a very chill low key vibe. Now, it's just out of control. I was in at 12pm tonight which just happened to be last call. I was informed the police had been called too many times and the city had changed the venue's liquor license. Within 5 minutes of sitting down and discovering that information, a friend of the head of security decided to start beating on another patron. To keep things short and bypass a bunch of stupid details: the victim seemed eccentric and odd, but didn't deserve to be assaulted. This was after the same guy who did the assaulting hit his bag in the bathroom while I was having some stomach problems. So much for the low key spot under the Indian place. Hopefully they will find their Wyatt Earp and get shit under control. I've been to biker bars that were less chaotic. Hopefully I just caught them on a bad night, but honestly I don't think they are capable of responding to and dealing with their patrons. Good luck read more

Used to love coming to this bar pre-covid but tonight my friends and I showed up and saw that no one was wearing masks and the bartender was extremely unwelcoming. We had just come from dinner where the the staff was super welcoming and helpful so we were taken aback by this person's rude attitude. He asked us what drinks we wanted in a harsh tone and after serving us our drinks and giving us the check, he grabbed it in an aggressive manner and I heard him say "f*ing kids" under his breath. My friends and I were there for less than 10 minutes because we chugged our drinks and left as quickly as we could. How have I been to almost all these little bars and lounges in the "East Bay Area" and not have visited "Spoontonic Lounge"? It really makes me feel like I'm slipping. Well finally I got a chance to make my way to this hidden little lounge. Now let me tell you why I like some aspects of this little gem, and why I dislike some aspects of this little gem.... "Spoontonic Lounge" City - Walnut Creek Drink - Chocolate Shake Porter Price/Admission - $8.00 for drink, Free Admission Spoontonic Lounge: According to many people, "Spoontonic Lounge" has been around and holding its own for many years. Way back when the now defunt "Crogans", "Redux", and "O'Carneys" were dominating the night club scene, "Spoontonic" had it's loyal following. Now with "Farrington's", "Masses", "Retro Junkie", and "Tiki Tom's" providing some competition, this little lounge is still here providing a great atmosphere and bringing a different flair to the "Walnut Creek" nightlife. This hidden lounge sits tucked in and hidden under a restaurant off Main St. Honestly if it's your first time going there....you would want to use your GPS. Now on to the pros and cons.... Pros - Great Crowd, Moderately Priced Drinks, Very Chic, Patio Area, Lounge Seating. Good Music. Cons - Small Size, Wait Times, Limited Parking. While I was here I did have a beer that sparked my interest "Chocolate Shake Porter" $8.00. If you've had Porters and know where they stand on the beer drinking scale, then you probably would enjoy this beer. They have a DJ here which is pretty cool, downside....the place isn't very big. The bar and the kinda dancefloor is the make up of the establishment, so getting a drink here and wanting to.."boogie" is kinda a task in itself that becomes sorta worth it. I honestly think they should really get rid of the DJ, and get a jukebox here to open up the room a bit, other than that, this place is kinda IMO, better just as a hip lounge instead of the nightclub style lounge they're aiming to be....or at least for the weekend. In Closing: "Spoontonic Lounge" isn't a bad place, had it been a bigger establishment, it would probably attract a obnoxious crowd. The location works for this hidden gem and seeing that it's been around for awhile, obviously they have a formula that's been working for them all these years. Even despite my star rating which is mostly small things, I still would say this place is worth the visit, maybe more so on weekdays than weekends.... depending on the type of person you are. Spoontonic is such a hidden gem! I moved to Walnut Creek a couple years ago and a neighbor said there was a bar I could walk to in 5 minutes so of course I was gonna check it out. I'm glad I did! I forget the bartenders name but she's great! Very attentive even in a full bar, very few times has she ever not really paid attention to us. Better than other bars on the same street *cough*.. Pros: Quick cheap drinks, cool dark comfy underground vibe, pretty good amount of seating, easy parking/Uber pickup and drop off. Cons: Small venue so it has the potential to be crammed Friday/Saturday nights. No drinks outside. Only activity is darts. I noticed the type of crowd is all over the place. Wow, I absolutely love the ambiance this place has going on. From the art on the walls done by local artists to the specialty cocktails. Absolutely love the attention to detail. The staff has a special way of making you feel welcome and always a complement when they remember your drink. Love the draft beers they have specially picked. Always something new to try. If you are into Karaoke, I suggest coming on Thursday nights. Dan has all the songs and the rotation is pretty good. Other than that, it's a great bar to be a regular at, I always feel safe. Tons of comfy, plush seating. I felt very little eye f'ing in my direction, as I walked around. Busy but not so crowded you feel clausterphobic. This place is hidden and worth trying to find it. I like the local casual lounge feel to it definitely not expected to find this place in WC reminds me of being in Berkeley. What you will find here cool friendly bartenders, great music playing especially if you are a 80's baby, non judgmental crowd and just an overall cool chill spot. They have a couple of tables that seats about 4 people also they have a booth in the back great for a more intimate feel and an old video game a photo booth jukebox and the best part is the cost of drinks are cheap. Bathroom overall clean and quite entertaining tagging on the walls. Big shout out to Justin he is awesome and friendly I enjoyed his singing and just being nice and welcoming. There's money to be spent here... this ain't your typical grunge underground avant-garde crowd. Hell... they even got a dress code! Imagine that... That's totally fine by me, but then cater to that crowd with your selection of music. Right now, the look of this place reminds me of the underground goth clubs I went to in SoMA in the late 80s, early 90s, minus the OD'ing junkies that you had to step over to get inside. Personally here's the artists I'd be playing in heavy rotation: Joy Division, Tones on Tail, Jesus & Mary Chain, Sisters of Mercy liven it up with some Happy Mondays & Stone Roses, The Streets... Throw in some angst when the crowd needs to be reminded to drink... maybe some Dead Milkmen here and there. The playlist doesn't need to be melancholic, but get your musical priorities in order!!! I'm giving 'em 3 stars for potential and because the people working the place were all very friendly and approachable. My sister in law misplaced her purse and the bouncer put it safely away for her behind the bar. Back in my SoMA club days, that purse would have been ripped to bits and whatever liquidity could be extracted would already have been mainlined into people's veins. So having a cool avant-garde club that is more safe... that's pretty cool. And I think they should cater to the Monday - Friday crowd who ain't got the time to make it to the City. What say you? Been loving this place for years, been a constant customer and getting more people here. It's casual, not fancy, but it's good just to have fun with your friends. Had an awful experience last Friday, we got there at 11PM, place was clearly empty but security people for some reason won't allow people to go into the premises. Obviously we all know some lounges do this to feel special and create some kind of hype. We were in line for 30+ minutes, people were freezing -- they did not care. Then new people came, and without hesitation they went in, they were VIP or something. Okay, I get it... again, this happens everywhere. We were 20 people in line, all of us were regular customers, not VIP. Ok, no biggie. We finally were able to go in, I got closer to the bar and attempted to order a drink. Bartender, a young lady said "no, I will not serve you". All my friends were like, okay... then they tried to order drinks for themselves, and I again attempted to order a drink from the same lady and she said "you've had enough". I was shocked, she was not kidding. I literally had been at the bar for 4 minutes, and she was denying service. I tried to talk to her, to security, and manager... no go. They kicked us out for no reason. I have never felt so humiliated in my life. Sober, humiliated, sad. Never again. Never, again. I still can't believe this, maybe she confused for another person... This is great, hidden, uptown, non Walnut Creek-ish bar. I was worried about it for a while because it was so hidden that people couldn't find it so they were never very busy. The upside of that was that there weren't a lot of 21 years olds getting wasted and throwing up all over the bathrooms and/or starting fights. It's definitely increased in popularity but when I have gone the patrons still seem laid back and cool. I like their cucumber infused vodka and the speciality drinks that are made with it. It tastes like Bath and Body Works smells, which is delicious. The photo booth is fun, especially after a few cucumber infused vodka drinks when it seems like a really fabulous idea. I absolutely love this watering hole. So non-pretencious and cool. It's a local place with a great DJ on friday and Saturday nights. No fluff, no food, not even a bag of chips... just a full bar. Staff is friendly but dont expect them to come round and wait on you. You need to get off the barstool and walk all of 8 feet to the bar. Gets a little crowded with the smokers out front but they mean no harm. Everyone is friendly. I totally felt the love here. read more

I'm not gonna lie, I frequent this place quite a lot its like my cheers and I'm Norm haha!! you got awesome cocktails, a good whiskey selection always in stock, awesome old school rock tunes to bring back those fuzzy memories of your punk rock high school days, eye candy behind the bar AND....their cheese zombies that satisfy the tastes buds waaaaaaayyyy better than the finest steak or caviar but then again your probably drunk or buzzed so anything would taste amazing to you. In all seriousness coming to this secret not so secret joint makes my heart skip a beat. Coming here on a random week day or weekend I some how always bump into someone I know. its a small local watering hole which is probably why I'm such a huge fan. I love seeing local businesses flourish in front of my eyes, gives me hope in these hard economic times. So come for the drinks, the intimate atmosphere, good conversations, and the most awesome bartenders I know Justin, Tom, and Ethan! Hard to find, but really cool bar. not a huge bar but I've been there a couple times and I really liked it. Not ridiculously packed or way too loud to carry on a conversation. Definitely an atypical WC bar. Drinks were a bit on the weak side if memory serves correct. Edit 9-23-07: I stopped by Spoontonic Sat night at 9pm, we stayed till about 11:30. It wasn't even that crowded which was pretty nice as I just wanted to catch up with the crowd I was with. Walnut Creek night life is just subpar...there's no question there. But I still wouldn't recommend this place to someone who has no other option. The location is secluded as far as being able to go to another bar/lounge goes...you'd have to stay here all night. If that's what you truly want. Doesn't get poppin until like 11:30pm...DJ that was spinning when I visited sucked...requested music, and he didn't play it. I've now visited Spoontonic a handful of times. I have been a frequent visitor of the Walnut Creek night life for a few years now, but did not find out about this place until a few months back when I came with a group of friends. It is kind of hidden off North Main Street, located behind some older buildings - right before Chic Fil A if you are heading North. I really like this place. It is a nice way to get away from the crazy loud antics that many times area present at other places in downtown walnut creek. Drinks are decently cheap, and they pretty much have a full bar. There is a good amount of seating around the bar as well as tables on the floor. They also have a few pinball machines which I think is really cool. I usually come here with my friends if we aren't feeling too crazy and want to have a few drinks and hang out. Despite the fact I really like this place for what it is, there are some things I don't like. First, the bathrooms aren't very clean and they only have one small mirror. A couple times one of the toilet seats has been broken in the ladies room too. Also, there is writing all over the walls - but that kind of gives it character and is sometimes entertaining to read. I especially enjoyed the note about Johnny being "a piece of smelly shit who cheats on his three girlfriends with uggo Serbian prostitutes"... Lol. Also, the bartender we had one of the times was not very friendly. It wasn't very busy but took him a long time to serve us/ask what we would like. I of course wanted to ask about what they had for beer, and he pointed to the bottles above the bar and walked away. I didn't have my glasses on and the lightening was dim so I could barely make out what they had. Next time I got his attention and asked he seemed somewhat annoyed. Either way, I ended up with bottle of Lagunitas IPA which is okay but I only got it because they didn't have any else that was good besides Guinness which I was not in the mood for. This brings me to the last thing I didn't like spoontonic - the beer selection. I can't recall if they have any beers on draft, I think maybe one or two, Guiness being one. Overall all though I like this place, the only time it was crazy was when they hosted some big birthday party for a large group of people. Will likely be back several more times. read more

It took three times driving down the street and turning around before actually thinking "Maybe it's down that long driveway." The place is small but definitely a cool little place to hang out. The music is loud and the place was pretty busy. The decor on the walls was pretty neat. I had two shots and a rum and coke (my favorite drink). The shot's were good, especially the last one. It was vodka but mixed with something that just made it delicious. The bartenders are nice. The patrons are nice. Just a great place for a get together. I never knew the entrance from the Indian restaurant, but there's a side street near this lounge that looks like it's hella in the cuts with the "massage" places in the corner. It's easier to get your car out if you park here though instead of the lounge's parking lot. They have tables, booths, and seating at the bar. This place tends to be dead before 10PM and hella fills up after that. For a Friday night anyway. $15 for McCallan (12 year) rocks or $8 for a Gin & Tonic. Not bad prices for drinks. They have TVs playing local sports. They have music playing too and the DJ that night had a great vibe going with the old, new school, and everything in between that he was playing. read more

When I searched for a bar/lounge on Yelp in Walnut Creek, I was expecting something a little on the fancy side since Walnut Creek is known for higher end restaurants and shopping centers. As I was driving to Spoontonic, the GPS guided me to a not so visible building that houses Spoontonic in the back of the building. My sister and I were both kind of weirded out thinking we must be in the wrong area. However, we saw a few cars driving into the back lot as well so we decided to follow. The parking situation is pretty odd. Feels almost like you're just out in the middle of some isolated warehouses of sort. But once we arrived at the entry of the bar, we were greeted by a friendly bouncer. Inside, you can see a bunch of people in their mid-to-late 20's enjoying their drinks and a few people dancing on the very small dance floor. The music was more of a 90's mix, my kind of mix actually. LOL We sat at the bar and asked for two Sprites. Our bartender, Ethan, was very nice and friendly. He jokingly asked "with a shot of vodka?" We were just there to get a feel of the crowd and environment in case we wanted to come back in the future. Ethan got us both our Sprites and told us that our drinks were on him. So sweet! We sat there for a little while and realized that we don't mind the scene at all. Most of their customers must be regulars because they seem to know all the bartenders. Everyone here are friendly and easy going. We finished our drinks and Ethan looks over and refills our drinks. I guess we won't leaving anytime soon. LOL We'll definitely be back! read more

The bar is labeled as a dive but really is a wanna-be hipster bar that some fedora wearing neckbeard slapped together in his mom's basement. I used to live in Walnut Creek, so I understand that the town lacks watering holes that are not full of cheap douchebags (Crogan's) or rich douchebags (1515), but this place barely makes up for that deficit. The decor is all kinds of dive bar, and the attitude is super "I'm cooler than you, but I still live with my parents" insecure. Hey, I realize Walnut Creek isn't a bastion of hipness, but ya'll need to chill out and take a xanax. The drinks are decently stiff. When my guy asked for a double shot of Knob Creek on ice, he poured Maker's instead. When the error was point out, he laughed and said he'd drink his mistake and then did (aren't bartenders NOT supposed to drink on the job?). When I asked for my bill the bartender talked to the other bartender looking back at me like they were talking about my bill. Then I was charged $32.00...for three drinks. Two of them were the $6.00 special for the night, so unless my math is off, the jerk charged me for BOTH double shots of Maker's and Knob Creek. Or they charge $20.00 for a double shot of Knob Creek. Either way, that's shady as shit if you charged me for your own mistake, and pathetic if you think people should pay $20.00 for a double shot in Walnut Creek, California. For the record, I still gave you a decent tip. But I will never come back to this lame excuse for a bar. Plus one star for the neat photo booth. p.s. Amazing vibe. Great bartenders. Always a fun time.. Johnny, Kass and Dani kill it any day of the week. At times it tends to get busy but they manage it well. Security on site as well, checking ID's at the door. every time i walk in i'm well taken care of. The bartenders are always friendly and seem to be having fun working there. No jukebox but you can always request a song if they're controlling it. This is how of a bar/lounge should be. Love this place read more
