Overall, I thought this was good - I was so excited about their food since their online menu (at the time) and Yelp reviews featured unique Asian-fusion brunch options. Upon arrival, the offerings were different and not as interesting. While their online menu and Yelp page featured Thai French Toast and Pandan Waffles, none of these items were there - for the most part, it felt more American and less Asian-fusion. I ended up having their Chicken and Waffles, which were good, the chicken was very good since these were nice, juicy, boneless pieces of fried chicken that had great flavor. I saw that Spork had recently reopened their restaurant after over a year of being closed. I never got to try their previous menu items but their newer are pretty good. They're known for being an Asian-fusion breakfast/brunch place. We ordered: Food: Bo Luc Lac - 10/10 - Wok styled tenderloin and onions with garlic toast and a sunny side up egg for the toast. Probably one of the most flavorful items. If you love wok styled cooking, this would be a go-to! Florentine Benedict - 8/10 - Classic florentine benedict, so nothing special but it was still good with the spinach, hollandaise sauce. The house salad on this and Bo Luc Lac were really good! Fried Chicken and Waffles - 7/10 - This is a unique twist on the classic chicken and waffles. Instead of smaller breast pieces, we're given a whole fried drum and thigh, bone in. Their waffle is also a pandan waffle! Both waffles and chicken were good by themselves. Banana French Toast - 10/10 - Wanted to try one of their sweeter classic items for brunch. French toast does not disappoint. The toast and syrup had a slight banana flavor to it. Not sure if that was because of caramelized banana slice or not but it was really good! Cute vietnamese fusion brunch restaurant in the middle of chinatown! It's a very spacious spot with with plenty of tables. Ordered the fried chicken and pandan waffles and the shrimp and eggs benedict. The benedict was good and was the first time I've seen shrimp on an eggs benedict but the potatoes were really good. The fried chicken was perfect, it was fried so that the skin was super thin and light and crunchy and the meat was really juicy. You could taste the pandan in the waffle which is pretty rare in a lot of places that have pandan or ube flavored things. The waffle was also nice and chewy!! I would get this again for sure. I woke up late today, and was craving a hearty breakfast or brunch. I was worried that we would have to brave long lines, and given how tired we were, I wasn't looking forward to it. Lo and behold, I found Spork through Yelp, and was able to snag a reservation an hour later. It definitely lives up to all of the reviews before mine, and all the dishes we ordered hit the spot. TL;DR: Totally worth it! This little place was so unexpected and one of the biggest highlights of my trip to SF. The portions are huge for the price you pay, the food is delicious, and the people are friendly. Can't lose! Even though the restaurant was busy on a Saturday morning, the servers were so kind and worked to get us served quickly. My friend and I got a dalgona coffee and a Thai iced tea, and the dalgona coffee was stellar. My problem with dalgona coffee is that the instant coffee traditionally used to make it can be bitter or overpowering, but this one was perfectly balanced with the milk. It was so good that I would come back just to have it. We ordered a Crispy Chicken Fried Rice and a Fried Chicken & Pandan Waffle, and neither disappointed. The Crispy Chicken Fried Rice was comforting and savory without being greasy in the slightest. What can I say? Breakfast of champions. I was less of a fan of the chicken and waffle, but I think that's just personal preference. Tom Yum Omelette: We seriously need more of these hybrids where some of your favorite Asian food is put in the middle of an omelette. And the glazed bacon on top is perfect to add that extra protein and fat, just in case the shrimp alone didn't do it for you. Plus the little potatoes on the side were very crispy, like really crispy, so that was quite enjoyable. Vietnamese Dalonga Coffee: A rich and creamy Vietnamese coffee served in a plastic sealed boba tea cup. This score is more around a 3.5. We walked to this place around 10am on a Sunday and it was not super full, maybe 4-5 other parties and plenty of room for my party of 5. They are known for doing an Asian-fusion brunch, so I was very excited to try, but I think the flavors were honestly not super strong which made it just seem like a regular brunch place as opposed to a fusion. Steak benedict (3/5): The poached egg yolk was not runny at all. It seemed more like a medium-boiled egg as the yolk wasn't completely solid, but it was not runny at all. Thai french toast combo (4/5): Regular french toast with thai iced tea sauce to dip in. Pretty good, but just a simple dish and you get a choice of either bacon or sausage and type of egg. Pandan combo (4/5): You get to choose how your eggs are and the bacon or sausage as well. The pandan waffle was yummy, a little overcooked so more crunchy and kind of hiding the pandan flavor. Or maybe the pandan flavor itself was just not as strong of a flavor, so it just was a nice crunchy waffle. Tom yum omelette (4/5): Good portion size, but not a super strong tom yum flavor inside the omelette. The potatoes, couple pieces of garlic bread, and salad on the side make it very filling. The sriracha bacon on the top had a little bit of a kick to it as well which was nice. I liked how the omelette had shrimp on the inside, very unique. I love brunch spots and I was very excited to try this new place. The restaurant was very clean and spacious. The servers first language was actually Spanish and I can tell they were learning English. My boyfriend spoke Spanish to them which made them really happy! :) they made sure they got our order right and answered any questions we had. The presentation of the food was really great, but what I feel like the flavor of my omelette and the Thai French toast could have better. You had to pour the the Thai tea sauce over the French toast which was good, but just wished the French toast could've been not so plain to begin with. This place has very similar vibes to Lapisara eatery (Thai fusion, pretty presentation) but is definitely more affordable (e.g. $15 vs $22 for chicken and waffles), equally delicious, and with less wait time. We made a reservation on open table about 30 minutes before we showed up for Sunday brunch with 6 people, and we had about a 3 minute wait (I don't know if the reservation actually counted or they just take first come first serve). I was able to select the less sweet option for the Thai tea and that was delicious! The bo luc lac came with a sweet, refreshing salad, super crispy potatoes, rich Parmesan bread, sunny side up egg, and steak and onions. Super filling and delicious. read more

I was feeling a bit hungry while I was sitting in traffic near the ballpark & started thinking about food. What should I get? I remembered that Spork came up on my Yelp recommended places to try list. I pulled up their Yelp page and ordered fried chicken & pandan waffles for pick up. I drove over and did a little happy dance when I found parking on Broadway which is rare. Pickup was easy & my order was still warm after picking & arriving home. Upon opening the box, the fragrant smell of coconut from the pandan waffle & scent of fried chicken was making me salivate. I toasted my waffle to revive the crispiness & ate half of the order (one order has 2 whole chicken thighs & a full waffle) because it was filling. The chicken skin was crispy & flavor ran though the tender meat. The waffle had a hint of coconut & sweetness, perfect combo with the savory, tender chicken. Yum!!! I only used the syrup but the order comes with mustard. I'm looking forward to a dine in experience here! Parking can be tricky since Broadway is a busy street with a few meters. Spork Restaurant is so deserving of its five-star Yelp rating! This is a lovely brunch spot with unique fusion dishes at very reasonable price points -- and amazing service to top it all off. Fresh Spring Rolls - Refreshing, crunchy, and the rice paper was the perfect consistency. I'm also really happy they accommodated for my peanut allergy by providing sweet chili and fish sauce in place of the regular peanut hoisin! Tom Yum Noodle Soup - Literally perfection. This came with huge shrimps (at no extra cost), tons of greens, and a side of bean sprouts, lime, and jalapeño slices. I ordered the broth spicy and was slightly worried that it would be too hot for me, but that wasn't the case at all -- it had a nice kick, balanced with savory and sour flavors. The portion size is also enormous so there's a chance you'll be walking away with half the bowl to-go. Thai Tea French Toast - We both agreed that the thai tea sauce needs to be its own drink -- it's that good. The eggs were also cooked sunnyside to perfection! I came by at around 11:30am on a Sunday for a table for 2 and had no problem getting seated, but it got much busier an hour later. I recommend making a reservation in advance on Yelp! Really wish I was able to try more stuff on their menu because it was so good! It's right in the middle of Chinatown and a great brunch spot. Went in and got seated right away on a Friday noon time. Started off with the shrimp rolls and they were pretty decent spring rolls (4/5). They didn't have enough sauce so we did ask for more but this was a great starter and dish to share! Ordered the florentine benedict with a salad and wow this was so good (5/5)! I'm not a huge fan of eggs benedict but this place made me change my mind about that. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the twist they add to the sauce took this dish to the next level! The potatoes on the side were super crispy and the dressing they used for the salad was so good I wish I knew what they added! Cleared the entire plate because it was just that good. I made a random left turn from Grant Avenue onto Broadway, and I suddenly discovered Chinatown has a new brunch spot. No, it's not a traditional Chinese spot, and it's not about dim sum either. It's a modern-looking Asian fusion spot that takes its inspiration more directly from Southeast Asia. Surprisingly it wasn't packed with young Instagram-snapping Asians, and I was led to a table quite easily by a young server. The menu reminded me of Kitchen Story in the Castro - American favorites for breakfast and lunch but with an Asian culinary twist, this time coming from Thailand and Vietnam. While the Pandan Waffle and the Thai Tea French Toast were alluring temptations, I decided to order the $16.95 Tom Yum Omelette out of complete curiosity. It was quite a creation when it arrived as the omelette featured shrimp, spinach, onion, bell pepper, mushroom, and tom yum paste. It was the extras that covered the entirety of the plate - the house salad, the fried potatoes, and the garlic toasts. The cherry on top, sort of speak, was the sriracha bacon, which brought a spicy sweet crunch to the dish, much like the millionaire's bacon at Kitchen Story (photo: https://bit.ly/3ObmBGJ). The entire breakfast was a nice surprise because I wasn't expecting the combination of flavors and textures that came with my meal. Quite a treat in an unexpected location. Spork caught my eye with its Thai fusion brunch plates and boy did it live up the visual eats! I made a reservation on Yelp but being that it's new and in a neighborhood not quite know for it's American brunch, so you can still easily walk in and likely find a spot. It's nestled at the edge of Chinatown on Broadway which is actually really cool because you have the option of exploring the rich culture of both Chinatown and Little Italy before or after you eat. We began our meal sharing a Tom yum soup. It hit the necessary sour notes and also had just a hit of spice that was really nice for an overcast morning. We also opted for shrimp as our protein and I was very impressed by both the number of shrimp given and it's size! Definitely a nice starter! For mains, we each opted for something different but everyone really liked their choices! I had the Tom yum omelette which also featured a ton of medium shrimp with red bell peppers, button mushrooms, onions, and other bits tossed in the Tom yum seasoning. It was way more concentrated in this form and was SO. GOOD. The omelette was on the thicker side but nothing to complain about. I also really liked the garlic toast on the side. It had a nice crunch from the French baguette and was sufficiently garlicky without being overwhelming. I would definitely recommend this plate! Mom had the Thai Tea French toast which featured three pieces of diagonally cut Texas toast griddled very nicely and accompanied by a delicious Thai tea dipping sauce instead of syrup. She remarked that she liked this a whole lot more than the ube (pancake) phase that has making it's way around. My brother had the Bo Luc Lac and noted that the beef was remarkably tender. I did notice that his sunny side egg was just a hair underdone (whites not fully set) but after he tossed it with his steak and potatoes, I'm sure it was fine. Dad got the shrimp benedict and was impressed by the size. Actually all of the dishes were very generous given their price points! All in all, it was a very good meal! Yes, Spork is new so there are some visible growing pains (especially with service speed) but they have the right attitude and I'm sure they'll make adjustments over time! The food itself is deserving of 5-stars, but the service has room for improvement. Brunch started off promisingly with mimosas. However, chaos ensued as the server accidentally lost control of the cocktails. My friend's jeans did a tremendous job absorbing the spilled boozy beverage (s/o Madewell) and her pants remained saturated throughout the entirety of brunch. Glass had also flown a good distance through the venue and crunched under our shoes as we moved tables. We were provided mango sticky rice for the mishap. Though the dessert was a nice gesture (tasty, too), we all thought that the restaurant could have at least comped our friend's meal or even just her mimosa for her long-lasting physical discomfort. Besides that, the Salmon Benedict came with the crispiest of breakfast potatoes and ooziest of poached eggs ready to burst at the next touch. The curry hollandaise delivered a fabulous fusion flavor that melded with the egg innards. All this was readily absorbed by the porous English muffins and thoroughly enjoyed by the consumer, myself. This feels like a bit of a hidden gem in Chinatown as there weren't a ton of people at the restaurant when we stopped in at ~5:30pm on a Friday, but I'm so glad that we found this spot as it's perfect if you're feeling Thai / Vietnamese fusion food! The menu isn't super extensive but it does have a large variety of different items that all looked good. Since my boyfriend and I weren't too hungry, we decided to just split an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. This ended up being the perfect amount of food for us, and everything was fantastic :) Shrimp fresh rolls: I'm always a big fan of ordering spring rolls at any Vietnamese restaurant, and these were very tasty paired with the peanut hoisin sauce on the side. And because the weather was super hot that day, these were perfect for a refreshing appetizer. Shaking beef: Let me start by saying that the hanger steak cubes in this dish were SO tender and buttery! The flavor was on point, and it paired wonderfully with the steamed rice on the side. I also found the price point of this dish very fair, especially considering I've had shaking beef at fancier restaurants for a much higher price. Came for brunch on a Saturday around 12 pm. It wasn't too busy because it was raining so we were seated right away. Service was great - staff were super nice and food came out pretty fast. We ordered the Bo Luc Lac, Tom Yum Omelette, Pandan Waffle, Thai Tea French Toast, and Garlic Fries. Bo Luc Lac - Comes with salad and 2 pieces of bread. Beef was juicy but some pieces were a little chewy. Sauce had good flavor but seemed a little watered down. Tom Yum Omelette - Comes with salad and 2 pieces of bread. Egg was cooked nicely but tom yum flavor was very faint - mostly just spicy not really any acidity Pandan Waffle - Super crispy and light! Very subtle pandan flavor but one of our favorites!
