Butternut squash and eggplant were soft and savory. Papaya salad gave brightness and crunch to the entire meal. They only had mango pudding, but it was lightly sweet with a bit of crunch. I love that they provide a set of various things. It felt like a well rounded meal. It was really filling and not too expensive at around $32 with tax. We were a group of 4 and we were able to split the bill with 2 cards. It's a pretty casual spot, but it was amazing for catching up with my friends. Came here on two different occasions. I like the pork a lot more than the beef. I'm personally not a fan of eggplant and squash in general. These were pretty good though. I tried a bit of the winter menu pork and honestly, it isn't worth the 2x price. The crispy pork tastes better, but I love the dessert of the normal set so much. It's really time really good pudding. I have been wanting to come here for a long time. You wouldn't find it too easily just walking buy its tucked away in a little ally corner. The space is so livley, and it was almost full on a Tuesday 7pm for dinner! There are so many options for the sets - many meat and tofu options. We did the regular tofu and the seasonal tofu sets. Another important thing is that one should make a reservation because of the small size of the restaurant. Service is good and professional. I was fortunate to get a table for 3 fairly quickly. The food mainly comes in complete meals with four entrees, a dessert and a rice plate. There are usually 4 options a beef, a chicken, a seafood and a vegetarian option. At this time there is also an additional four meals as part of their winter menu. Surprisingly the combinations taste very good and will fill up the average person. Came here mid week for a dinner. I was pretty hungry and left STUFFED. The set menu is great- you get a bunch of different flavors and dishes to bounce around while eating and it's a lot of food. The ribeye green curry was exceptional. It was spicy, flavorful, and full of meat! The chicken soup was refreshing. And the shrimp salad was really well seasoned. Very solid spot for a lunch, although a bit on the pricier side. It is tucked into an unassuming alley, but the inside is surprisingly spacious. There may be street parking near, or you can park in the St Mary's Square Garage about 1.5 blocks away. There was only one other table around 11:30am on a Saturday. They had light music playing inside, which was pretty calming. There are also some appetizers you can get in addition to the lunch sets, but we didn't get those (satay, Brussels sprouts, etc). The sets do come with a lot of food, especially if you eat the whole thing. I opted for the pork belly set. The accompaniments were tasty and seasoned well - spicy eggplant (umami and soft) along with the Thai coconut mushroom soup (tangy and slightly creamy). The pork belly itself had a good flavor, but they were on the thinner side. It wasn't like a thick cut pork belly from a Taiwanese or Chinese restaurant, but the flavor was still there. The homemade pudding was a nice dessert - sweet and nutty with some crunchy texture from the sesame seeds and coconut flakes. Overall, everything is solid. I do think the price may deter me slightly from returning unless the portion of meat was more generous. There were a few fruit flies flying around our food while we were eating, which was annoying. We came here on a rainy Tuesday evening shortly after they opened and got seated right away. They do take reservations if you're a Type A person, or if you have a larger party. The menu could be a little complicated, but each set comes with an assortment of foods, along with a small sweet treat! I got the seasonal chicken and pork belly set, and my boyfriend got the beef set. I loved everything in the chicken and crispy pork belly set! I've never had a coconut based soup, but it balanced perfectly with the mushrooms, chicken and cilantro. The crispy pork belly was perfectly cooked and seasoned, with pieces of bell pepper to complement them. The papaya salad was a nice change in flavor while eating, and the brussel sprouts were cooked and seasoned really well, but beware they do have a pretty good kick from the thai chilis. The sticky coconut with longang was a perfect way to wrap everything up with this set. For the beef set, the beef was delicious! It was extremely tender, and I liked the pickled onions mixed in, though my boyfriend wasn't the biggest fan. It came with both squash and eggplant, but if you have texture issues like my boyfriend, I'd recommend to try a different set. The coconut pudding was amazing, and the toasted coconut was great with it. Spicy sautéed eggplant - mushroomy and a tinge of spice. Really, a well done side. Papaya salad - red chile alert! Quite spicy so buyer beware. Rice mix - jasmine, brown and berry. Yes, berry sounds weird but it's super mild. Mango pudding with coconut jelly and black sesame seeds. Yummy! Best part is all these dishes are served simultaneously so feel free to start with dessert!! I've been eyeing Hed's set meals for a while now and decided to treat myself while I happened to be in the downtown SF area on a cold, rainy day--greatest decision of the week. The portions may look small at first glance, but each dish is bursting with flavor. Coconut mushroom soup--brothy and slightly creamy but not heavy. I was so surprised by how refreshing this was. Sautéed eggplant--I love Chinese eggplant MMM Pork belly--tossed with pineapple chunks in a sweet soy sauce glaze and topped with radish, cilantro, crispy onions and such. Great flavor! This paired so well with the rice. However, I do think slightly more tender pieces of pork would take this dish to a whole new level. I swapped out the mango/coconut pudding for the seasonal dessert, which was a coconut black sticky rice with longan (a distant relative of the lychee fruit). Trust me when I say I still think about this to this day...the hint of salt in the coconut sauce brought everything together in the most perfect way and made this an unforgettable dessert. Their menu is scannable through a QR code, and their main dishes come as sets: usually a main dish, soup, vegetables, salad, and a dessert.
