Best bagels in Massachusetts. Someone says otherwise? Sorry, they are wrong. (Ooook, fineeee I haven't tried every bagel place in MA so I am open to change my mind BUT I'd be surprised if somewhere beats SPOT.) Seriously though, I moved from NYC to MA (I'm originally from MA) a couple of years ago and my company was based in Norwood (somewhere I had never heard up while growing up on the Northshore) and never did I think the best bagels would randomly be found in Norwood. During my years in NYC, I could find pretty amazing bagels (almost) anywhere -- not everywhere though, that's a misconception. Anyway, I came back to MA and tried a bunch of places in Boston, and the Northshore, all of which left me finally realizing what the fuss about NYC bagels was. Prior to moving there, I grew up on bagels here so I loved them (they are bagels after all) then I moved there and still liked them, but then coming back is where I realized the difference. ANYWAY, long story short: the bagels at SPOT are perfect. The bagel sandwiches are perfect. The coffee is fine, but the bagels are perfect. I've since moved from Norwood to Chelsea, and find myself missing SPOT often. In fact, we've kept our dog's vet in Norwood, since moving, for two reasons: 1. That vet is priced well and exceptional and 2. It gives us a reason to drive 40 minutes to Norwood and get bagels. If you haven't fully grasped it yet, due the overt subtleness of my message: You need to go to SPOT for bagels--even if you have to drive. *WARNING: There most likely will be a line, especially if you go at breakfast or lunch-time, try to go around 10am or after 1pm and you'll not wait long. They are a husband and wife team running the show and taking time to make sure every order is perfect: so it takes time. Almost all the negative reviews for SPOT are because of this line, not the quality of food -- so just be prepared for that if you go and you'll be happy. I'd tell you which bagel sandwiches, or bagels, are the best that you should try, but we all have our own specific bagel sandwich preferences so just get what you get elsewhere and be prepared to like it more from here. Let's be clear, the bagels are 5 star. Number two best bagel in Boston just behind Katz's in Chelsea. Perfectly chewy outside and soft inside. However, they need more seating. There are a bunch of shelves that are barely filled with inventory. Instead of that wasted space they should put more seating. Great food. Service can be super slow during peak times. Definitely plan on being there for awhile to get a bagel sandwich and coffee. Only 1 person checking people out. Could be better if they have the ordering from the grill line and then coffee and bagels to go line with another person checking out. Self serve coffee would be cool. You end up waiting in line to order for at least 15 mins and then another 20 to 40 sometimes for the actual food order. During busy times, you can order and then the 5 people behind you get theirs before you. They have improved from the time when they were across the street, but still have room for Improvement on the service. Also could save time and the environment if stopped using styrofoam containers and just used foil instead. Still using plastic straws too. read more

There is no doubt they're bagels are great. Lines are still 45 minute wait my kids won't wait that long. They are hungry. My parents can't stand that long. They won't let you use the elevator if you're on a walker. You must have a wheelchair. The workers are is a grumpy. They are out or Tuna and chicken salad they only have three tables. No stools to wait so stand for another 10 minutes makes the whole experience not worth it. read more

Great spot but unbelievably inefficient. Super long wait, only one cook, it was actually shocking how inefficient they are. Come if you want to wait at least two hours. They are running the shop like a fast food quick service but then have so many inefficiencies in cooking the food. the kitchen runs more like a restaurant with way less support. It's just unbelievable honestly. I don't care how good the bagels are we will never be back here. read more

Horrible customer service, everyone looks beyond miserable. Waited for almost 30 mins, (not the issue) I'm there with my toddler who is playing with the candy, this was my first and last time here btw. I finally reach the counter and instead of the woman being kind she states with disgust could you make sure she isn't breaking the candy!! Why would I let her break the candy, funny thing is she opened two items and I was already going to pay for them. But now they have to deal with the opened items I was paying for. Over priced. Not as good as ppl rave about it. Line is always long and so slow to move. Owners are grumpy and unfriendly. I'd like to add that the cook always looks sweaty and always wiping his face and hands with his shirt. When I was there this poor teen was waiting over 45 minutes for his order. Turned out the slip fell on floor and and was ignored. What's sad is the owner didn't even bother apologizing or offering anything to the young man to compensate him. Waiting an hour in line and another hour to get your sandwich is ridiculous. Two hour wait on weekends for good but not extraordinary bagels and egg sandwiches is definitely not worth it. The couple that runs Spot expanded into a much bigger space. Woke up extra hungry and decided to use Yelp to find breakfast. Stumbled upon this. I'm the type to look at pictures before making a decision and "The Beast" sounded and looked delicious from the picture. The place seems very popular due to me seeing a long line but honestly it was worth the wait. My first bite and it felt like fireworks in my mouth! Best bagels in the area by FAR! Every time I venture into here, I'm prepared for it to be at least a half hour adventure. But honestly? I don't mind at all. The smell of fresh bagels and long line that wraps around the store means that you will never be bored. They have an expansive menu of bagels, iced coffees, and bagel sandwiches (both breakfast and lunch focused). My favorites include the Bacon & Egg on an Everything Bagel (I'm dairy-free, but this sandwich doesn't need cheese to be moist and delicious), as well as a Cookies & Creme Mocha Iced Coffee with almond milk and no sugar. Additionally, I cannot conclude this review without stating how dedicated, passionate, and sweet the owners and staff are here. Every conversation I have had with Anna, who works the register and makes DELICIOUS coffees, makes me smile and feel like the only customer in the shop. What a great breakfast and lunch spot! ;) Very tasty bagels and sandwiches, iced coffee that is out of this world. Friendly service, especially the ladies who work there (the gentleman cooking is way too busy trying to get everyone their food asap and just the way they ordered it). They play great music, and have a huge and eclectic selection of gourmet sodas. Looks like they're gearing up for more stock and other things. Go see them, bet you like it. Very very poor service and attitude. We reached here 10 minutes before their 6.30pm closing time and the tables and chairs were already tucked away. Cleaning the cooking stations was in session by a lady. I could see the cream cheese and a few bagels kept on the counter but when we asked we were very promptly told that they are closed and everything is stowed away already. Even after we pointed out the counter kept foods, the lady kept repeating the same statement like a puppet. I haven't tried their bagels and I don't plan on in future either. Worth the wait if you have the time! Bagels and bagel sandwiches here are priced extremely well. The lox is like 4 or $5 which is unheard of around Boston. The two people working behind the register and on grill own the place and it just can't keep up with demand so lines are long and take awhile. This is one of those places where teens congregate because it's in style and they can afford to wait the hour plus to order/get their meal. I went here twice this weekend, and both times the line was ridiculously long, and there were only two people working. I left both times without ordering. This place needs to either come up with a more efficient way to order, or more realistically, hire someone to help. It baffles my mind that people would wait over an hour for a bagel. I get it, they must be good and are relatively cheap, but the people who work here (presumably the owners) need some help in running the business Even if the business is profitable in its current state, a more efficient line with more employees could lead to increased revenue that more than compensates for the additional labor expenses.
