Brisket, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Mac and Coleslaw

Why 3 stars? Because the other reviews are pretty dead-on - it's just okay. --- --- --- Full disclosure: I came here because I was given a gift card. I actually had a gift card for here and for a clothing store from Christmas, so I figured I would just make an afternoon of it. It turns out, I wasn't too dissuaded from the 3-star average. I thought the ribs were definitely the star of the show. The coleslaw was solid, and the hot rolls were a delightful treat. Everything else? It was the quality you'd expect from something like a Holiday Inn catering menu. The pulled pork, brisket, mac-n-cheese and coconut cream pie were all very forgettable. And one big takeaway here was: if you haven't been here, this is a counter service, where you go through the line with a tray and people serve you what you order. A really puzzling thing is that the glass/plastic was either fogged up or just too dirty to see through for the side dishes. It wasn't great for the meat either, but at least you could see what was on the other side. For that hot sides, it was like trying to see through a steam room. There's too much amazing BBQ in Houston for me to want to return.

Most of it was eaten by the time photo was taken.

The food is pretty good and decently priced. The baked beans seemed a little lacking in flavor. The reason for the 5 stars is for the okra. It's hard enough to find okra but the okra here was made fresh and some of the best okra I've had.

Like others have said: get the brisket, it's amazing, piping with juiciness and a perfect flavor! Yum! They know how to do it right here. Could've used some spicy Bbq sauce, but you can't have everything. Mac n cheese side was ok, not cheesy enough for me. The potato salad was really delicious and one of the best I ever had. For real! Service was self-serve, get a tray, plates and silverware, and order from each station. Everyone was nice and friendly and getting our food was easy. Nice decor throughout the restaurant, you definitely know you're in a Texas BBQ place! I'd return here again if ever in town and in need of a brisket fix. Yum!

Mudder telling me that the only reason they serve us on trays and we don't eat on them is because if we did we would be barbarians!

Brisket was over the top! I mother had lean and I had marbled. We could have split a sandwich! The only problem that I had was they had no spicy sauce and I grew up on Randy Martin's BBQ sauce. There will be none other than that!

Alright, look-it. You're not going to like your whole family...so you can't expect to like a whole BBQ joint. Let me explain: 1. The meat is awesome (we tried brisket, sausage, and ribs). Being able to call your cut of brisket is great, too. 2. The sides though. They were ok. That's all I can say. That's all I will say. One notable exception is the bread - get it fresh out of the oven - it's great!. I'll say it again, few things are perfect, but the bbq is tasty. Simple math.

I did not care for this barbecue at all, I had the sausage and brisket plate with beans and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese tasted like it came straight out of a box the beans were ok. The rolls look good but they did not taste good at all it was horrible, I was so disappointed and will not return I would not recommend.

Place has a nice bbq joint feel to it but the food was only mediocre. Tea was really good though.

However, from the lackluster flavors, poor marbling of the beat, and lack of air conditioning in HOUSTON, I was left feeling quite disappointed. The main star of any Barbecue joint should be the meats that have been meticulously worked on for many hours. When the star of the show are the sides, you have a problem. The baked beans, mac and cheese, collared greens, and Brussels sprouts are delicious, as expected. The brisket was absolutely dried to the point where I couldn't tell if I was wiping my mouth with a napkin or the brisket. Yes, I ordered it fatty. The ribs were terribly marbled. If one bite was a dry portion of the rib, the other bite was an entire glob of fat. Perhaps that's how ribs are sometimes, but my experiences with many other Barbecue joints in Houston were not so much that. Take your hard-earned money and try some of the local mama/papa joints Houston has to offer.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service is also great! While we were eating, staff would regularly check all of the tables to check if anyone needed anything. The staff taking our order also chatted with us about other BBQ spots we've been to. Everything was such a great experience and the quality of the food is 100/10!

I've passed by several times and the line has always deterred me, but this time I came with my game face and the patience of a saint. I arrived on a Friday at 11:03am to be exact. Yep, they open at 11am and yep there was already a line. I was shortly approached by an employee who handed me a paper menu and asked if I would like to purchase a drink while I wait in line. It was fairly hot outside but they had fans along the patio to give relief. The inside of the restaurant is not large but also not small, its first come first serve so get in where you fit in or opt to sit outside. I arrived to the front of the line around 12pm so it took about an hour of waiting in line. Ordering was smooth and it took no time for the food to be ready. Staff were friendly, and service was speedy. I ordered brisket(moist), pulled pork sandwich, mac n cheese, potato salad, beans, apple cobbler, and a baked potato. The potato salad was a pleasant surprise! It is not your traditional potato salad, but If you enjoy anything dill flavored, you'd love it! The brisket was moist and flavorful, melt in your mouth good!!! The other sides were just okay, not bad but nothing stood out. The cobbler was a bit too sweet and it did not seem as though the ingredients were mixed very well. It was like they dumped sugar on top and baked it without mixing it. Pulled pork sandwich was meaty and flavorful. Pretty good BBQ Experience!!!

The moist brisket was a thick mixed slice consisting of both moist and lean, maybe the cashier didn't hear me. They serve Goodstock by Nolan Ryan, which is his premium line that's either Prime or Angus, so I'm not sure which they buy here, maybe Angus. The German style sausage is a little peppery, but with paprika or cayenne, not black pepper. It was ok. The item I liked the least. It's a fine-grained sausage and smooth and just tastes generic or store bought. The cajun potato salad was interesting and good..not great. They do give you a massive amount for a single serving. It's a tad spicy due to the cayenne. The banana pudding is very interesting and definitely homemade. It has a caramel swirl and broken chocolate pieces sprinkled on the top. This was my favorite part of the meal, but it's also very sweet. The owner let me know that they smoke the bananas and the sea salt which goes on top. The background music is good here...classic country so you definitely have that Texas vibe. Last of all, I didn't really like their iced tea here. Not sure what it is. The homemade bbq sauce is passable but goes well with their meats. Next time, I definitely need to try their homemade boudain, the ribs, and the Mac and cheese.

The chips were so greasy you feared eating them for getting sick. The manager acknowledged how bad they were, and said they had an issue with the supplier. He said rather than not serve chips, they decided to serve them. They were inedible. Also the once delicious salsa has gotten watery. After my food arrived, I sent the taco back because the shell was the same as the chips. So greasy and the taco poured grease out of it. This last trip, the chips were better, but still very greasy and tasteless. The nachos I had would be about the quality of Chilis. No refried beans. Most restaurants layer refried beans, cheese and meat for SIX almost $20 dollar nachos. The chicken fajita meat was dry, and the beef was not good. A few bites were not edible. Another note- The once delicious tortillas were super thick and gummy. The manager came by and I explained everything to him . He didn't have much to say and didn't really seem concerned... other than taking off $2 of the bill. Which I do appreciate! It's still a beautiful restaurant, just sadly the food has changed too much for it be a top place for me.
