Absolutely horrible. Service is great which makes this dining experience even worse. The chow mein was like a plate of wet unseasoned noodles and the cashew nut chicken looked like dog food. I ate here last week sometime and was very pleased. Good Chinese food has been a serious challenge to find here in Ventura. Let's just say I have a lot of bad Chinese before this place. I used to go to Lee's and not for their less than friendly service but because they deliver to my area and it was good enough to eat. Buuuttt then they took a nose dive into horrible with food that tasted of freezer burn and no flavor. So we decided to venture on to here. They were super accommodating as we arrived within 40ish minutes to closing. Yessss we were those people I'm embarrassed but they took us with open arms. Food was great even the bf gave it two thumbs up and he's a food snob! We had shrimp with snow peas, kung pao three flavor, BBQ pork fried rice & egg rolls. It was all good and we even took the leftovers which is saying a lot as we hate eating leftover Chinese. All in all we will be returning to try some more menu items. read more

Went in on a Saturday for lunch, the place was simple and clean. Efficient staff. Well put together plates and prices. Went back on a Wednesday. Busy at lunch since it's near the largest employer in town ,the county Government Center. Still very efficient and on top of their game. Every thing was perfect. We ate this place last night and it was pretty good. I had chow fun and chicken with garlic sauce. Both dish were good. Looking at the menu and they also make jam bong which is Korean dish. I will try this dish next time. Koreans who live near Ventura should try this place. I told the owner to make kim chee and she said she will. Had dinner here last night and wasn't very impressed. We were waiting for a prescription to be filled across the street so thought we would try it out. It was freezing in the restaurant! Almost too uncomfortable to even sit through our meal. We were the only people in the restaurant when we got there and ordered, still our food came with the fried rice even though we requested white. We got the orange chicken and it wasn't flavorful enough and the chicken was really fatty! We ordered the paper-wrap chicken before our meal came out and it was the worst I have ever had. The flavor wasn't right and it was so stuck the the foil that you could not even get it out to eat. We will not be going back to Spring Garden. read more

Maybe it's because I live in the Bay Area where we have some really good Chinese restaurants, but I was expecting a lot better based on the Yelp reviews. Maybe this is "very good" Chinese food to people in Ventura. Maybe I got a rare bad dish (Mongolian Beef). But I wasn't impressed at all. In my opinion it wasn't passable. The beef tasted like it had MSG or something similar in it. They claim no MSG for the record. If not MSG then it was ultra salty. But beyond that it was also ultra greasy. Onions, scallions and beef were drenched in oil. Way more than I've seen before. They brought a bowl of crunchy "chow mein noodles". They tasted canned (La Choi from the Ralph's grocery nearby?) and stale. It was about 1pm when I was there and there were maybe only 3 or 4 other people there. The service was OK. The portions are generous. The prices are fair. If it wasn't for my food (I could only manage to eat about 20% and declined to take the remainder with me) then I'd probably have enjoyed it more. As-is, I only managed to eat about 1/5th of the food and could not recommend it at least based on what I ate the one time I went there. read more

We have been going to mandarin house for years, but since it has closed we couldn't find anything comparable. Last night we tried Spring Garden. It was comforting to see the tea cups, we were skeptical at first, But as we ordered the same plates we would have ordered at Manderin House, every dish was amazing. Starting with the sizzling rice soup, chicken chow mein, and their beef chow fun was really good. Although their service was a little slow it only reassured me that their food wad freshly made. It's been a year and a half since I last posted a review on Spring Garden. I've got to say, the quality of food, friendliness and cleanliness is unwavering. Every single time we have eaten here we have been so pleased with excellent food, service and cleanliness. Cindy always remembers my name -- even when I call in on the phone for a to-go order. Everyone working here is so very friendly and knowledgeable. The food is extremely fresh, delicious, good portion sizes and just the very best around. I still HIGHLY recommend Spring Garden. Just paid $90 for bland, very oily horrible Chinese food. It was expensive and totally not worth it. I seriously think Panda Express or frozen pf changs from store is much better, so save your money. i love the food here but the thing that drives me from not coming is one of employees . She is the dark looking host. The first time i went here she was very rude to me and my friend giving us dirty looks. From then on when we get takeout food she still gives us looks and makes me not want to go. Spring Garden restaurant is one of the few restaurants I have found which offers steamed Chinese food. Since I prefer steamed food to food cooked in oil, it is a great place for me to go to get a light, healthy meal. Spring Garden is also a great place to get together to talk with friends. I find it easy to have a conversation there because the background music and the other conversations in the restaurant are not too loud, making it easy to have a conversation with my friends. It is also a good place to get together with a group of friends because they have some large tables which can accommodate a number of people. read more
