Spots on the bed sheet at check in.
    Smith Family O.

I checked in and was disappointed that nobody mentioned upon phone reservations that they have a $5 per day plus tax parking fee until we arrived at the hotel. I was told by the clerk that it could be worse since the city charges $25-$30 per day. I told the clerk I wasn't staying in the city. The clerk asked me if I was ok with it and I said no but after driving in from Texas after 16 plus hours, where was I supposed to park? I looked online and there isn't mention of the fee unless you go to the parking tab. It's not like they share parking with another business so this is so wrong of Marriott in Elmhurst. I was also told that they don't clean the rooms on a daily basis and you have to let them know a day ahead if you want service for the following day. The only thing I do give them credit for is that they did make the exception with us because we were visiting a very sick patient every single day of our stay and didn't want to bring in or take out anything that can cause anyone another illness and they did at least make the beds if nothing else. They told us we could get extra towels if needed from the front desk. As we came up to the room it smelled like they had just cleaned the whole entire floor with a citrus, clean smelling cleaner, even the elevators smelled clean but it was only temporary to mask the musty smell. Two days later they did come in to clean the carpet in the hallways. The room looked ok as we walked in but was lacking Kleenex and both the toilet paper rolls were almost empty. I immediately looked at the bedding because of the reviews read and sure enough found these nasty yellow spots on the sheet along with red hair strands in between the sheets and blanket on the other bed. Not sure if they just made the beds from the previous guest upon checkout but this is so wrong. On the following morning (Friday) for breakfast they had one person in the kitchen doing the best she could with a few large group of kids. There were no soufflés left, no waffle mix, and nobody cleaning tables. They ran out of cereals. The kids were leaving behind all the trash on the tables and no adults around with common sense to guide them or tell them to throw the trash out. Kids were noisy running up and down the hallway as if they were the only ones in the hotel late into the night. This is not the same nice hotel we had previously stayed at. The guest clerks are all the same from our prior visit but it seemed they are just doing a scripted job. The hotel pool was closed due to maintenance but I'm almost positive it's because they didn't want to deal with 50 kids in the pool at one time. They have cookies daily but when these groups were here they didn't have any probably because it wasn't fair to put out 20 cookies when you had 50 kids in a group. The other downside is the people who smoke pot don't care to move away from the hotel entrance to smoke like everyone loves smelling like skunk and nobody said anything to them. Unless changes are made I don't think we'll stay here at this hotel again. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the people working there and the variety of breakfast items available. The housekeepers are friendly even though the majority don't speak good English. They are trying to do the best they can with what they have but are also getting too lazy or relaxed and don't really clean or check anything in the rooms. After our 4th day here, everything started going downhill again. The body wash, shampoo and conditioner were very low and not being refilled. On the 6th day we asked if they could refill them and the only one refilled was the body wash. They housekeeping crew wouldn't leave hand soap, coffee or toilet paper unless we left the empty rolls in place. I don't understand because it's not like they are extremely busy and can't remember to look. Also, if you drink coffee downstairs it's never hot especially if you add creamer to it. Breakfast items are decent and enough to fill up on. Plenty of fruits, juices, milks, breads, cereals, waffles, oatmeal and some kind of meat and or sandwich is always available. I honestly hope Marriott does something about the parking fee and the cleaning of the hotel. It just seems nobody cares about service anymore.

    Non functioning TV

The rooms are nice and spacious. The lobby is clean and the staff are practicing safety precautions. The television is our room did not work and the staff at the time was not able to assist us. His customer service was not very helpful at all. There were ants in the bathroom and around the vanity area. There wasn't an ironing board in the room. It really could've been a good experience had these not be the issues. Overall nice presentation, comfortable beds and plenty of parking.

First I was prejudged the moment I walked in being a young AA female. My reservation was for seven days. I was made to clean my own room without the proper cleaning supplies. Per The manager Kimberly Nichols she was not going to put her housekeeping staff in danger due COVID19. They didn't want to let us borrow the vacuum cleaner, dirty linen remained in the hall by the room door for 4 days. When I changed the linen I found a big blood puddle in the bed as if someone was murdered in it. I do not recommend this hotel.

I would never go from stay away to a good rating. Let me explain, I happened to book a night when they had a bus load of youths for a sports event the following day and arguments did get heated. Well I was that age at one time, and yes the picture was what it is. What I can tell you about this property after staying at Marriott properties over 750 nights in my sales career is the personal accountability of one person and his name is Eric. Eric auto emails every guest at time of booking with his contact details as the point person if any issues arise during the stay, for those of you not familiar with Marriot, expect this from the JW or Ritz but not a Springhill. Anyway Eric emailed me before checkout and made things right. Sure you can stay at other corporate properties but let me ask you this, does a "Eric" email you with his personal contact information? I'll go back, everyone deserves a second chance.

I can see where they are trying to go, but it's not there. The place is in disrepair if you pay attention at all (cracks, holes, chipped paint), a crappy elevator, there's even random crap thrown in a corner still in view of guest. If you want to be taken seriously, then handle all the stuff no one sees that isn't sexy, rather than just putting lipstick on a pig. There's no consistent theme. It's like 5 different people walked through a 2nd hand store in a rush, with no other options, so each picked what they found in their scavenger hunt and then threw it all together. It's a big space. The staff was great and welcoming. Seriously, they were solid. The place is a 2 star, but staff is worth another star. It just felt like coming to visit my aunt who doesn't get a lot of visitors so she threw everything in a closet knowing guest are coming over. We all have to ignore the smell and everything else. The stuff on the walls makes sense to her as they are her memories, but there's no theme other than her history, so none of it makes sense to anyone else. It's just awkward. The reason this place isn't booming is 100% on the owner. They are trying to look bougie, while ignoring real issues, and clearly in way over their head attempting to do way too much with too little. They need to take a loan or get an investor and make this place amazing. It could be, but it's not. Then again, not sure if the place they dream of could survive in that area as the prices would need to double and the area may not be willing to pay. Potential investors may have said the same. I see the vision, but also see the reality, which just frustrated me as there was conflict around every corner. Also, the bar closes early at like 8 or 9pm. Additionally the upgraded rooms with "garden view" are anything but. The actual room is good. The detached building however looks like it was a nursing home that's never been changed or upgraded; at least on the outside and entrance. When you walk in the front door of said nursing home, it SMELLS like a nursing home. It was strong and not in a good way. When you are in your room and look outside at the "garden view", it's a crappy 1/2 wall that appears to have been designed and built as a favor by a drunk uncle who was in a rush. It's very small and insignificant. It's an eye sore, but the "garden" is actually just the back yard looking directly into a crappy middle class neighborhood of back yards. All in all, my "get away" upgraded experience felt more like a motel 6 with a $1,000,000 dream on a $500 budget.

We stayed two nights at The Drake Oak Brook on a trip in for a concert at Allstate Arena, and by…read morethe end of it, we were already talking about when we'd come back. This is a hotel where the staff is genuinely the star. The valet, a seasoned guy with a classic Chicago accent, was warm, quick with recommendations, and set the tone the second we pulled up. The front desk matched him. For a four-diamond property at around $200 a night, it punches well above the price. The property itself earns its reputation. The landscaping is beautifully kept, with a gazebo and plenty of outdoor seating that works for a quiet morning coffee or an evening drink. Inside, the lobby has what look like Chihuly-style glass sculptures and a mid-century-Chicago kind of grandeur -- you can tell this place has hosted a lot of weddings and receptions, and it would be great for them. Our room was impressive. No real view, but the finishes were strong, the shower was good, and, a minor miracle, the TV actually worked and streamed without a fight. The in-room drink cart was generously stocked with pre-made cocktails and select wines, a nice touch you don't see often. The bar downstairs was a highlight: the "skeleton key" in the room unlocks a free off-menu drink, which is exactly the kind of small-theater move that makes a hotel feel like it has a personality. Our Platinum Marriott status got us a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast, and they were generous with points on top of that. The breakfast was nice -- though I'll be honest, I wouldn't have paid $24 for the quality of their continental spread without the comp. Parking was easy, valet is free, and the gym has Peloton bikes (we didn't use them, but good to know). 3.7 stars overall. The honest gripes: doors on the east building are thin. We could hear hallway conversations clearly, and at times other rooms, not a dealbreaker this time as people were quiet at a reasonable time, but surprising for a property at this level. The exterior lighting has also not been maintained, bulbs are out around the building, and only the "th" in the classic mid-century "The Drake" sign was lit up, which is a shame because that sign is a whole vibe when it's fully on. Also, fair warning: a traveling baseball team had effectively colonized the bar during our stay, with a swarm of tired kids and tireder parents. Not the hotel's fault, but worth knowing if you're coming for a quiet getaway during kids baseball season. What would push it to four stars: better sound insulation on the east-side rooms and a maintenance pass on the exterior lighting. Both are fixable, and the rest of the experience is already there. We'll likely be back.

She also was attentive, and took the time to see if we needed a roll in shower for my elderly father. My dad really enjoyed that shower because of the features. I also had a wonderful interaction with Vicky who was kind enough to answer my questions. The property was clean, and well maintained. The accommodations were great! We really enjoyed the room, and the love and care that housekeeping that took care of the room did to get us in quickly. One thing that I noticed was that each of the staff members who I came in contact with were friendly, and greeted us with a smile while making eye contact. The staff was enthusiastic, and I had the pleasure of the 3 ladies that made breakfast a success! It was not your average breakfast that you get from other facilities. The omelettes were PERFECT! The associate was engaging, and quickly and efficiently managed her busy line making sure to accommodate all guests, and to ensure everyone enjoyed their omelette. There was another staff member who managed the hot foods. She was eloquent, and very attentive. If she thought you needed something it was addressed in a personalized manner. Another staff member named Arnetta was phenomenal! She made sure everyone had a memorable experience. I can't wait for my next visit next month. This is a great place for business travel, wedding party accommodations, to host a retreat, family reunions, or for a couples getaway. It is also great when you have family members who are in the area, and you need that perfect place to be close.
