We stayed here because of it's location between PHX and Luke AFB (about 30 miles to each) and the economical price. We checked in late in the evening and the girl at the front desk was super friendly. The room was clean and the television had a ton of (almost too many) channels. The breakfast in the morning was complementary and was well stocked. All in all, this is a nice clean and worth the money.

Location: About 15 minutes away from the downtown Phoenix with free on-site parking; however, the hotel location is not so intuitive because of the one-way local street entrance (easy to drive in, a slight hassle to drive out). You will need to drive to grocery stores because they are not within 5 minutes of walking distance. Price: About $75 per night (with tax and other fees) for the 2 Queen Suite with a sofa bed. Room: Clean bathroom with a high pressure shower head, comfortable sofa bed (very easy to pull in and out the bottom deck of the sofa bed), free WiFi (I had to walk downstairs and ask for the password), and strong A/C (can set the temperature as low as 65 °F - that's awfully cold). Other amenities: A small fitness gym (treadmills, elliptical machines, and a dumbbell rack), a small pool, free popcorn + coffee + hot water with tea bags at the lobby, and complimentary breakfast. Honestly it was a surprisingly comfortable stay ... minus the strong A/C which was out of my control due to other folks adjusted the temperature during the middle of the night (in football teams battle for field position ... I had to battle for the temperature control).

Morning grab and go breakfast line

This was actually my second time staying here but my first review. I remembered this location from my previous trip when some friends and I decided to do a road trip to Phoenix. Part of the reason I chose it is for the location which puts you close to the freeway and near a lot of restaurants. There is a big parking lot and the staff was very welcoming we got there even though our room wasn't ready yet and we figured it would happen as we were early. They were more than happy to hold our bags so that we didn't have them cooking in our car during the Phoenix summer sun. We had booked 2 suites, each one with 2 queen beds and a sleeper. The sleeper was not your typical heavy, pull out of the sofa sleeper. This one looked like a sofa, but you pulled the mattress out from under, removed the seat cushions to place the mattress on top a wooden frame. My friends that ended up sleeping on it were very satisfied. The room was clean and spacious with a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The morning breakfast in pre-covid times was pretty good but now it consists of a lot of grab and go stuff but there is still lots to chose from; hot cereal, fresh fruits, dry cereal, muffins, yogurt, coffee, tea and water. The morning staff consisted of only one person for a while so she was running around setting up the breakfast while trying to check out guests from their rooms. This place is very convenient and worth the money.

Not sure why the many great reviews. Not sleeping on this tonight. Highly disappointed. They can do better, I hope so at least.

It took 25 mins for the front desk receptionist to come out of the office. After check-in I went to enter the room but couldn't because the room key did not work. The receptionist had to change the room. Total check-in time after multiple trips to the front desk took an hour. The elevator was broken so it was multiple strips up and down the stairs. The following day my room key I programmed AGAIN so I had to go to the front desk again. The elevator was broken so my mother who is having issues with her heel had to endure the stairs. The pool was dirty. The sofa in the room had white questionable stains as in the picture I attached. The online photos did not match the property the pool is about 1/4 the size of the picture false advertisement. The hallway smelled like weed my whole 2 night stay. I was in town for my college graduation and had activities planned so if I had the time I would have looked and checked-in to another hotel. The room was not clean room service did not come in to clean the room throughout our whole stay. Definitely short staffed stay was not pleasant.

They offer Paul Mitchell bath products - nice touch

As mentioned in another review, there are so many hotels in this area, I often wonder how they all manage to stay in business. I used to live in Phoenix, frequenting the airport in particular, and never noticed this unpretentious hotel tucked away on the east side frontage road off I-17. The styling of the building is standard southwest issue, pale cream colored walls, tile, orange gravel and zero water decorative plants, but is notably clean and tidy with a nice little patio near the windows that allow diners to view the sun-drenched grounds. Parking is plentiful and free. The staff are friendly without being obsequious though I never had any problems or requests that would have tested the service beyond check-in and check-out. I was very surprised at the quality of the rooms and amenities given the very reasonable room rate. Less than $70 a night buys you a comfy bed, a generous kitchenette including a refrigerater / freezer and microwave, well organized work space, large couch and flat screen TV with a surprisingly modern and appealing decor. They even offer Paul Mitchell bath products which I've never seen at a hotel before. The A/C is powerful and effective against the oppressive heat of the valley. To sweeten your visit, the free breakfast they serve each morning offers a couple of hot items and a relatively large selection of continental items. (See my tip for more specific info.) Only possible complaint might be the location of the hotel. The frontage road only goes in one direction on each side of I-17 to the north or south of the hotel. I wanted to get to a grocery store for water etc and there were none nearby according to the Yelp app on my phone. Still, I'd stay here if I needed to be in this area of Phoenix overnight.

Maydeline at the Spa was very helpful and very in touch with guest needs. One step ahead everytime. Colin really saved the day with making sure we had everything we needed. Brennan was also really helpful at breakfast and bringing us water all the way to the retreat pool. There was a minor hiccup with requesting ice while we were there but they did take care of it and apologized the next day for it not being done promptly, the acknowledgement was great and it really was such a minor thing. They have lots of activities everyday that are included and they also have experiences you can pay for.

The hotel is inspired by the colorful and folk art influenced works of renowned mid-century modern architect and designer Alexander "Sandro" Girard. The hotel's bio says he was the main source of inspiration for the design of the Andaz Scottsdale. The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Lavender with sea salt. It's really like staying in a spa! One of my favorite experiences at this hotel was taking a late afternoon outdoor class at the spa/gym on the large lawn where we did stretching/light resistance training with the the sunset behind Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. It was glorious. I definitely recommend trying one of the classes or "experiences" if you stay here. Some of them you have to pay extra for, but a few of them are included with your room rate. At first glance the hotel interiors and architecture seem extremely simple and minimal, but then you realize it's actually all a piece of mid-century modern inspired art. It's really fun to walk around and admire all the understated design details at this hotel.

I ordered 2 food items and pre paid for 3 beers the bill came out to $52.18 I didn't think much of it and even tipped 25% After I finished my third beer. I decided to order a cookie with ice cream and an old fashioned to take up to my room. Again I tipped 25% My phone has text alert and I noticed the bill was $42.62 for what should have been $22.00 max I bought it to my bar tenders attention and she was working things out on the registry and came back with a receipt that didn't have prices just my order but she had added 1 extra beer. I told her it was wrong and she said it wasn't that the first time she had only charged me for 2 beers and this was my third beer. I did not want to argue so I left it at that but I couldn't sleep thinking about it. I mean dang I even tipped her good. The next day I reached out. To management I don't mind taking care of my servers and I'm always a good tipper. But I don't like being taken advantage of because they think I had a few drinks. Or they think I won't notice extra things. This is not okay. The hotel you check into is supposed to be a safe place like home to enjoy a drink or two. The management offered to refund the first bill of 52.18. But I told him I just wanted what I was over charged refunded plus my tips. At this point I feel she had the chance to correct my bill and make things right but she chose to make me feel like I was in the wrong. After the manager added my first bill up after I told him what I had ordered it turns out she charged 4 beers the first time and not just my 3 and way over charged me the second time. This is a great place to stay but keep an eye on what you order. More so late at night. Also my hot wings were cold in the center but I didn't even mention it to her at the time. Dining: TAQUERIA CENTRO -- 10 out of 10. The food and service were both exceptional. Manager Carlos did an outstanding job and was a true highlight of our stay. Prado -- 4 out of 10. We visited Prado twice during our stay. Our first visit was for breakfast -- the food was okay but noticeably overpriced for what was offered. Our second visit was a far worse experience. We were seated and waited 15 minutes without our server ever acknowledging us, so we got up and left. The service at this restaurant was consistently poor and the pricing did not reflect the quality or experience provided. Dining Options -- Room for Improvement. For a resort of this size and reputation, the dining options felt limited. We would strongly recommend adding at least one additional restaurant to give guests more variety. The snack and coffee shop, which could help fill that gap, closed far too early in the evening. Extending those hours would go a long way in improving the overall guest experience, particularly for those who want a light bite or a cup of coffee later in the day. The Room -- 6 out of 10. The room itself was nice, but there were several issues that fell well below the standard I would expect from a resort of this caliber. The bed was old and noticeably worn down, making for an uncomfortable night's sleep. To make matters worse, the comforter on the bed was torn and had visible holes in it -- something that should never make it into a guest room. We also struggled with the room temperature throughout the night and were unable to get it to cool down comfortably. A Bright Spot at Checkout: I spoke with Avery Williams, Director of Front Office, at checkout and she was genuinely outstanding. She was sincerely concerned about the issues we experienced and did everything she could to address them. She even followed up with an email after our departure, which was a very nice touch. Overall, I left feeling somewhat disappointed given the reputation of this resort. With a few improvements -- additional dining options, extended snack shop hours, updated room bedding and linens, and better temperature control -- along with a serious look at the service standards at Prado, this could easily be a 9 or 10 out of 10 experience.
