Made a hughe mistake in eating at this reatuarnt on 02/19/22. The food was acceptble, but the noise level was off the charts. Large wood cieling without any accoustical breaks makes it ridiculousy loud. Even though we we were seated from the bar, it was difficult to cartry on a conversation. The person who waited on us was very poor and lacked proper training. It was so cold in the retaurant that people had their coats on when dining. There are so many truly great retaurants in Pittsburgh, avoid this resturant. read more

Dined here with my partner on a Saturday evening. Very nice inside, not crazy busy, and had great service from our waitress and mgr consistently checked on us. I ordered the linguine and clams with white sauce, was very good, but I was given a few empty shells... partner had vodka pasta and enjoyed it very much. Shared arancini and zucchini fritters as appetizers, they were ok, and probably wouldn't order again. Only negative thing I'll say is, what Italian restaurant doesn't serve bread with the pasta? That is the Main reason for not giving 5 stars! read more

Been here two times. Got the vodka pasta and chicken parm with calamari. Both ABSOLUTELY amazing- pasta and sauces seems homemade. The owner David is one of a kind, cares about his guests and their enjoyment. Great location at tenth and penn/ highly recommend stopping in while in Pittsburgh! read more

Service was great and the food was pretty good! Really love the atmosphere as well, we actually had a large group outside. If you get the chicken parm you will have left overs for 2 other dinners! It is HUGE. Wish I would have taken a picture. The vodka rigatoni with sausage was good as well but a little different than a typical vodka sauce. Didn't give them a 5 since their wine by the glass list was extremely small but maybe they'll be adding too it as they are open longer. Worth trying again. read more

My boyfriend & I went here for the first time this past Friday. WOW doesn't even begin to describe our experience. Our waitress, Daisy, was absolutely fantastic & was so incredibly kind! The food was beyond my expectations. After I was done eating, I was already looking forward to the next day to eat my leftovers for lunch!! 10/10, hardcore recommend. read more

We were pretty disappointed in our visit. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and attentive, but the food and atmosphere were average. It was a bit loud, which is saying something given that the restaurant isn't operating at full capacity. The food was heavy, servings were too big, and nothing wowed us. The COVID protocol was on par with other restaurants I've been to, but the French man selling wine kept taking his mask down and talking loudly and fairly close to us- for those who haven't yet been vaccinated, this felt very uncomfortable. read more

Scarpino's is a must if you're looking for a fine dining experience in Pittsburgh! We arrived at the restaurant about 30 mins before closing, but we never felt rushed in any way. Dan was an incredible sever! He was very attentive, and along with the manger, made our table feel very welcome, even at the late hour. The food was delicious. The calamari is a must try! We kind of wandered in and we were so glad we did. Excellent food and really fast service. The calamari was great, the sauce it sits in is light and flavorful. We ordered the funghi pizza and the rigatoni a la vodka, both of which came really fast and were delicious. Will definitely go back. read more

We went for restaurant week and had a great meal! 2 of our party of 3 went off the RW menu, one ordered from the regular menu. Our apps were the mozzarella and the calamari, the calamari was definitely the stand out. Entrees were chicken parm and veal, both of which were the best we've had. There was an issue with the 3rd entree but rather than focus on the negative, it was the excellent customer service from our server Ashley and the manager that makes it a 5 star despite the issue. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

I went with my Dad stepmom and husband on Friday night. My Dad is great but stepmom is often very challenging at any restaurant. She often sends her meals back for no reason. However, she couldn't complain at Scarpino. With one exception... She always wants to eat outside whenever possible and reserved an outside table but after a mild gust of wind, wanted moved inside. There was no inside availability but our server, Anna was outstanding and very pleasantly handled everything in stride. My stepmom then started requesting things that weren't on the menu and very specifically but Anna also handled this seamlessly and got her exactly what she wanted. AND THEN the food came... IT WAS EXTRAORDINARY!!!! My father in law is Italian so I have been to numerous Italian restaurants but this one by far is SUPERIOR!!! I can not wait to go back when my father in law will be in town. I KNOW he will love it as much as we did. However, the highlight of the entire night is the incredible and very entertaining manager, David! He is so much fun and entertaining but also very attentive without being intrusive at all. He truly makes you feel like you've know and enjoyed him your entire life. We almost never go downtown for dinner bc of parking and traffic but will be frequenting Scarpino from now on. A big thank you to all of the staff, especially including the kitchen staff. They not only prepare and promptly deliver incredible food with a smile but we ran into a couple of the guys on break in the alley and they were also super kind and appreciative. Totally awesome, go if you ever have a chance : ) Also we did not order the pizzas but they all looked and smelled incredible when delivered to tables around us. i would give 0 stars if i could. this restaurant looks cute, but the service was awful and the food mediocre. took us a literal hour to get our starter salad with the restaurant mostly empty. and they got our order wrong. when we finally got the food, it was hard to eat, but we had no other choice because we were running so late from their delayed service. will not be coming here again. read more

As frequent visitors to the old Ten Penny which used to occupy this space, we hoped for something wonderful to replace it when it closed. We would not have chosen a new Italian place ... it's our least favorite of the ethnic cusine options ... so we were prepared to cross this off our "regular" list. Nevertheless, we ate there a few times anyway becuase we love the "space" and the bar. Despite not loving Italian food in general, we were extremely impressed by both the food and especially by the service. In a city full of really good pizza, this one (the margarita in particular) is a definite standout. Not long ago, The restaurant invested a TON into beautiful outdoor furnishings, including gazebo-style covered dining and comfy sofas with firepits. There are a few really nice outdoor spaces in the city now (including Bridges and Burbon, a couple of doors down) but this has to be the most well done outdoor space in the area. Several times, we have stopped for "just one drink" enroute to dinner elsewhere and ended up staying for several (and food too) just because it's so comfortable and inviting. For those who love good Italian, it's a must. My only suggestion (I hope the owners read these :) is to add more healthy menu options for those of us city-dwellers living nearby who would love to come regularly but who do not wish to indulge in heavy, calorie-laden Italian food multiple times a week! Thinking maybe seafood salad ... just throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks :) :) !! Anyway, I cannot possibly imagine not loving it here (once you get past the reservation system and actually get in)! read more

My wife and I had a taste for Italian tonight. With most of the good Italian restaurants in Pittsburgh having closed leaving only a few good ones left, we are always hopeful for a new Italian restaurant. I work downtown and see Scarpino everyday on my way to work so we decided to give it a try. What a disappointment. Let me start with the appetizers. . The meatball was too large, over spiced and not hot all the way through and for the price, not acceptable. The calamari fritti were almost entirely tentacles. I love those but my wife likes the rings. They come sprinkled with cheese, which is not to our taste. The worst part was they must have dropped the calamari pieces into the fryer in clumps because they fried together leaving the middle a mushy flour mess. Sadly, the calamari and the meatball were the only things that were edible. We also ordered the beans and greens. There was so much garlic in the dish, chunks, that it made the dish inedible, so much so we left it on the table after taking a couple of bites each. The cacio e pepe was equally bad. The pasta was over cooked and swimming in sauce that again had too much garlic in it. Cacio e Pepe is not even supposed to have garlic in it. I made it through half the plate and had to stop. The wine list is small and subpar. My wife doesn't drink alcohol so I have to order wines by the glass. $13 a glass for a wine from Abruzzo? Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

the meatball was delicious!!! definitely recommend if you stop here. our waiter, dan, was great! very nice and seemed to really enjoy himself. the service was also very fast. the only reason for 3 stars is i didn't enjoy my entree which was very unfortunate for the price. i got the rigitoni ala vodka and though i didn't love it my girlfriend thought it was delicious so to each their own. read more
