Went out here tonight for my sister's birthday and heard nothing but interesting things about this place and from the looks of the options on the menu, it looked pretty promising. Our server did a decent job during the visit. The decor of the place felt welcoming with a flare of modern day restaurants. Food wise is where it all went downhill. For our appetizer we had the board which included a variety of fruit and cheeses and meats that are a variation of a charcuterie board. My sister and mother originally were hoping to get Burrata as this place was notorious for it, but unfortunately they were out of it...allegedly. But when we got the board for our appetizer it had burrata on it. Then our orders arrived. I had a pizza with meatballs, cheese, and vodka sauce. My mother ordered the vodka sauce rigatoni which she thought was ok. My aunt got the spaghetti and meatballs with marinara sauce and my sister got the orchedie pasta that was supposed to come with peppers and sausage but instead came out with broccoli and some oily sauce instead which was the opposite of what she ordered. I felt that my pizza tasted bland to the point where after the second or third slice felt that the pie itself lacked in vodka sauce and it was a huge letdown. While looking for a reasonably priced restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh, we came across Sienna Mercato. We were seated quickly on the ground floor. The restaurant was full, but it wasn't too loud, and it didn't feel crowded. As far as food goes, I was pleased with the shrimp and rigatoni in blush sauce. They didn't skimp on the shrimp. An absolutely beautiful restaurant and love the food hall vibe with each floor offering a different taste and view of Italian cuisine. We went directly to Mezzo for the half off wine and charcuterie deal and pasta for my little one. Overall the meals we selected were okay, the arancini had a nice crisp exterior and great sauce at the base - I think this dish would've been better if there was a lot more sauce, maybe as a side to dip. With the lack of sauce the remaining arancini was a bit dry. Our charcuterie board was beautiful, I was really happy with the meat and cheese portions, and the fresh fruit, the description mentioned nuts but we received a cluster of sweet granola (pictured) and I felt that was a bit off. The board included focaccia however the pieces we had on our board were very stiff, I think this dish could've been improved with softer bread or some crackers. Finally, not pictured, my daughters buttered pasta, she really enjoyed that! Some things to note, I requested fettuccini noodles for her pasta and was told they didn't have any, I said let's do linguini, and was told they were out of linguini, at this point I told the waitress any noodle would be fine. We also ordered burrata and were told that wasn't available. Our waitress was very sweet, I felt bad for her having to delivery the "bad" news every time, she was really sweet and attentive. She had us and a few other tables and I noticed she really gave everyone a personalized experience, she noticed my daughter taking a photo of my husband and I and offered to get one of the 3 of us! Overall I think we might've caught Mezzo on an off night, I'd definitely give it another try next time we're in town but for now this is a low 3/5 for the dishes we did get to experience, great great deals though! read more

Nice atmosphere and solid Italian food, I really liked the ambiance with the lights, holiday decorations, and lighting. The drinks were really fun, especially their seasonal ones! The pizza and pasta were also fairly good, you can definitely feed two per pizza, and the fig drizzle was delicious! It's a very floppy pizza crust, which isn't my preference, but it was a good thin style. The other flavor combinations also looked good, especially the hot honey. The only thing is that the food and drinks took forever to arrive, even when the restaurant was only half full. But, our server was very nice and took great care of us, so overall, would still recommend as a solid spot downtown! read more

It has been a few years since I was in this establishment, but nostalgia kicked in as soon as I got seated by the window. This is one of the few places in downtown that survived the pandemic and offers a rooftop bar. Very nice! There are 3 floors and different ambiences. This is a three in one restaurant with a casual meatball/italian themed (and family friendly) restaurant on the ground floor, a fancier spot on the second floor (that also serves brunch) and a fun rooftop bar. It is an interesting concept to have three different themed/types of restaurant experiences in the same space under one name. It can also be a tad confusing. But all of the things offered under this roof are unique and great in their own way. When you enter, there is a host station for Emporio, or you can go down the hallway to take the stairs (or elevator) to the other two establishments. Sometimes the staff at the Emporio stand seem to get a bit porky when people ask questions about the other two restaurants, but I suppose they probably get sick of always answering the same questions. Definitely give it a try. It is fun that you can have a family meal, a fancy brunch, a rooftop cockail or a great date night all in the same (but yet different) place. read more

Very disappointed with the menu rehaul. Gone are the days of making your own meatball sub or slider with ample choices, now you are limited to beef, chicken, and a vegetarian ball (which wasn't even listed on 2/3 of our menus), all on a 3 ball slider. No other meatball sandwich options anymore, only a sub or spaghetti. The veggie balls were more mush than ball, and the marinara sauce was just passible. Don't even get me started on the Ai generated Picklesburgh table topper, the waitstaff not knowing there was a new menu, OR the removal of the best appetizer, the poutine. Came with some friends for brunch. We had reservations which was good because it was packed. Food took a while to come out but the staff was friendly and helped us navigate the drink ordering. Loved the fireworks when the drinks are delivered. Now for the bad. Food took a long time to come out. I ordered the quiche and the waitress brought me French toast instead. That was really disappointing but I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for my meal so I accepted the French toast. It was pretty bad ; burnt on the edges and just smothered in jam. When I got my bill I expected some compensation for the wrong food, but they didn't even apologize again. Not impressed. read more

We ate dinner on the first floor. The food was served warm. Not hot. The food runner did not bring the entire meal, forgetting the sides. He seemed genuinely confused when I mentioned that the sides were missing. And the food was average at best. The sauce was below average. The angel hair pasta was spaghettI. the vegetables were swimming in garlic butter. The waiter checked on us once. He left the bill and walked away; once again causing an extended wait. Tried to give a review about 45 minutes to an hour after leaving on Toast. Clicked the link and got an error message that it was too late to leave a review. Ridiculous. We were in the area for a sporting event, and decided to try out this place before the game. They offer a good selection of make your own pasta bowls, and other classic Italian cuisines. The open air section on the first floor can be lively at times. They also have a couple of upstairs dining area as well. Service was quick, and staff was friendly. However, the dishes that we've ordered seems just a bit under-flavored. The portions was good and plenty, but just seemed to miss the "Wow" factor. The service was good and they were kind about the issues that we had. Someone in my group ordered the chicken parm, the chicken was raw, and needed to be taken back. They comped the chicken so if that was the only issue it would've been completely fine. Then for dessert we ordered crème brûlée and it came out with completely burnt sugar and gritty texture. They comped the crème brûlée as well because it was not edible. Our server was incredibly kind and understanding. I would highly recommend not ordering ANY catering from here. We were double charged for our order. We provided receipts of the double charge (over 900$) and a we still haven't gotten a refund. First off, I made this account just so I could write this review. "Italian Restaurant" is a bold claim. Their only side options are French fries, Mac and cheese, and mixed vegetables. An Italian restaurant. Mac and cheese as a side for my pasta entree? French fries?! No salad. No soup. They also serve your Italian pasta entree in a stainless steel dog bowl with handles that spins on flat surfaces. 0/10 do NOT recommend. Service was inattentive and slow. Food was fine at best. 2 entrees, 2 apps, 2 drinks was $100. $100 for the Italian version of Friendly's. read more

I love going to the rooftop on a sunny and warm day as you get some great views of the city while enjoying a drink! The rooftop is decorated very well!! This is such a fun concept of a restaurant located in Pittsburgh's Cultural District. It is a three-story building and each floor is a different menu. 1st Floor - Emporio: A Meatball Joint 2nd Floor - Mezzo 3rd Floor - Il Tetto Rooftop Beer Garden We picked to eat at Emporio, which is located on the first floor. I got the Loaded Baked Potato Bowl which was SO good. I will be dreaming about this meal for a while. It included so many of my favorite things. The base was white cheddar mashed potatoes and it was topped with tator tots, cheese, bacon, scallions, and two classic beef meatballs. They had a few bowls that they have already built, like the one I ordered, or you can build your own bowl. They have so many great ingredients and toppings to choose from. This is such a fun and unique location and I can't wait to check out one of the other floors on our next trip to Pittsburgh! read more

What an interesting restaurant concept. I can honestly say I've never seen a "balls" themed restaurant lol From beef meatballs to chicken garlic balls to vegetarian balls to falafel - there's a ball for everyone. Liked the look & feel of the place, exposed red brick and cool artwork. Very friendly service and food came out quickly. Bar looked like a busy, fun area. I had the falafel wrap with no slaw - MMMMM. Tzatziki on point. French fries were decent and their homemade ranch was fire. My hubby had the beef meatball sub, he gave it a high (3.8/5) - good flavor but a little dry. Crack sauce on top was helpful. Bloody Mary mix was basic. The Mac & Cheese looked like "school cafeteria macaroni" but was surprisingly delicious. Not sure if we'd dine here again since there's so many places to try in Pittsburgh, but good meal! read more

For a meatball place, it was honestly the worst I've ever had. As soon as I stabbed it with my fork, I knew I was in trouble. So hard, dry, flavorless, despite all the sauce. Mozzarella sticks are definitely frozen from Sysco. We also came for the rooftop bar and checked Instagram and their events calendar daily. When we showed up, it was closed for a private event, which meant different drinks and food menu. Still no event listed on their events calendar. I cannot believe they brand theirselves as a "meatball joint". I'd believe more if it was a front for a drug operation because it was sooo nasty. Will never return. Two bright spots- server was nice and the espresso martini was good. But not worth it to return. We left before ordering entrees-- we had enough fun. read more

For food alone I'd give 4 stars but the staff and service brought our experience down. We stopped in for lunch with 4 adults and 2 kids. We had planned to go up to the rooftop and made our way to the elevator. A bartender yelled over to us, "where are you going" to which we replied upstairs, and she just said, "good luck with that" and laughed. We had no idea that the rooftop was 21+ and instead of her telling us, she made rude comments and left us to keep walking toward the elevator until another staff member let us know. Once we were seated on the main level, it took awhile for anyone to wait on us, and they never brought over a high hair even after asking a couple times. Our server seemed a bit out of it, messing up our orders as well as never checking in on us. Il Tetto (the rooftop bar of this restaurant) is such a cool spot! The ambiance is really the star of the show with twinkly lights & a full glass rooftop cover so you can see outside even when it's cold. You can almost always snag some bar seats - especially if you come a little on the later side after the immediate after-work rush. For drinks, I had an espresso martini (yum!) & a glass of bubbly. They don't have a huge menu, but what I tried was good! Service was a little lacking, however, as it was hard to get the bartenders' attention even when we were seated at the bar. On the positive side our server was polite. As for the negatives: I ordered shrimp scampi. What I got was shrimp and pasta soaked in lemon juice. Had I not been hungry and in dread of a prolonged wait like I had for the plate to arrive I would have sent it back. The desert took more than 30 minutes to arrive. I'd ask for a cup of coffee with my desert. My server brought a cup of lukewarm coffee. She did bring a fresh cup when asked. However, by the time desert arrived the coffee was mostly drank and lukewarm. The atmosphere was rather basic. It certainly didn't support the prolonged wait for food to arrive. The party seated next to us arrived 15 minutes behind us yet they were seemingly served before us. And yes we made reservations. So for me a return visit is a hard NO. read more

I accidentally bumped and spilled my mule when it was still half full. After I apologized to our waitress and asked for assistance, someone else came over to takeaway our soaked napkins and wiped away the ice and remaining liquid; however, they left a large sticky puddle on the floor next to the table and didn't clean the table. We still had dinner and desert to finish and no one offered us new napkins or a refill or discount on my drink. We ordered from the restaurant week menu-- the gnocchi and pesto sauce was bland and the tiramisu was not traditional, but rather a 1x1 inch of cake. I don't get it. I thought the food was awful and the table was sticky and grimy. Maybe a bad day. The 'famous' chicken sandwich is fried and just not good. The edges were black and it tasted like the grease was old. I got pretty ill afterwards. The Crack sauce is even worse. Maybe Ranch + buffalo is not for me. The mac n cheese bowl was no better - for the cost, I expect more than what tasted like Kraft. The service was good. Server was polite and quick. read more
