The skyline views and the retractable glass roof of this downtown spot are definitely cool, the overall experience at Il Tetto usually ends up feeling pretty average. It's a decent spot if you just want to grab a quick drink from their massive list of draft beers, local ciders, or casual cocktails, and maybe snack on some fried mozzarella or a meatball hoagie while you hang out. The biggest drawback is that the service can be a bit of a gamble. There are times when it's noticeably slow and less than adequate, especially when it gets crowded on weekends. We stopped by to check out their Rudolph's Rooftop pop up last week. Normally I go to Il Tetto more for their rooftop vibes than anything and thus had low expectations for drinks. The decor was cute with lots of lights and several inflatable decorations like a Rudolph and a snowman. The cocktails were surprisingly pretty good! The Cornelius's Coquito was genuinely delicious and well balanced and while the Sugar Cookie Martini was on the sweet side, it was delightful. Unfortunately the outdoor seating part is only facing the street, but there's a greenhouse roof that lets you see the lights which I loved! The fall drinks were so good! We thought it was still going to be semi-outside so we came bundled up but were pleasantly surprised when we got there and it was indoor. It is probably fantastic in the summer too! We went for their Halloween party and it was pretty fun! Pros: loved that it was heated and covered but you still feel kinda "outside". We loved the DJ, he did a wide range and that was appreciated as the old fart millenials at the event. The bartenders were fast and sweet! Our drinks were so yummy and we loved the little Halloween touches on them. Cons: we were starving. So we looked and it said we could order takeout and then bring it back upstairs. You can only order at the bar with one of the bartenders as this isn't the kind of place where they come to your table. If you want a refill, get it yourself if you can get the bartender's attention on a Saturday night. They actually did a good job handling all of us drunkards with how busy it was. My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday night around 7 PM just to have a cocktail or two before viewing a documentary nearby. There was a private 40th birthday party taking up a lot of space. We were able to get a spot at the bar. My takeaway is that people don't stay here too long. That isn't meant to be a negative. Bartenders were friendly and attentive, The overall space is fantastic. At times I didn't feel like I was in Pittsburgh. It was very relaxing, with the open roof. As someone in my mid-40s I felt comfortable too as the age range was all over the place. I've been with just my husband, with groups of friends countless times, and with a bachelorette party. Lately, the bartenders & servers are all super nice, the vibes are hard to beat, the music is good, & there's corn hole for those who want to play. Now, it definitely gets packed and when it is service is spotty / it can be hard to get a drink or close out your bill. Makes sense because everyone is busy! If you're patient it's totally fine, if you're in a hurry and it's full when you arrive, obviously try somewhere else. I've only had light bites here a coupe of times, but they were good. A couple of weeks ago there almost no one there when we arrived close to opening & it was awesome. People slowly flowed in until the place was full. The music was bumping & everyone was so happy. She chatted with him about how she missed him because her other customers are meh. I tried to get her to engage in conversation with no luck. So much so that my drink went empty until another bartender noticed. Lesson learned- you have to show up more than once to feel welcomed. There are some major pros and cons to Il Tetto... I've gone a number of times and unfortunately the cons list is growing for me. Pros: - Beautiful space, cool views of the city architecture - Great location, around a lot of other restaurants and bars - Pretty good drink selection, however sometimes the specialty cocktails are inconsistent Cons: - It is unbearably hot when it's a warm day and the roof has to be closed... like it's almost unsafe it's like a greenhouse. They need to find a solution for that - The food is just not good and very limited. The wings are soggy, buffalo chicken dip is dry, the meatballs were over cooked... literally everything is not great. The second floor's food is pretty good, so it's a bummer that is lost when you go upstairs - It's getting rundown, the bathrooms are consistently gross I would stop going here because of the cons, but it's one of the only larger places to gather in the downtown area. We came to Il Tetto for our friends welcome party and wedding rehearsal dinner. We had half of the rooftop reserved for our private event and it was a blast. The bartenders were kind, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is tremendous. It happened to be trivia night when we were there so our group of friends and the rest of the wedding party got to partake in a little bit of trivia fun. As for the food, we had a Buffay style of salad, appetizers, and pizza. Unfortunately, we all agreed that the pizza was way too salty. But the appetizers and salad were delicious. It's great to have a place like Il Tetto (part of Sienna Mercato) in downtown Pittsburgh. I can't think of a better activity on a warm summer night than spending some time relaxing at a rooftop beer garden, especially with as beautiful of a view as Il Tetto's. There are positives and negatives, but generally I enjoy coming here once in a while. The first positive is that the beer selection is decent. My cousins and I visited Il Tetto past Saturday for one of my cousin's bachelorette parties, and I had no problems choosing beers throughout the night. Toward the end of the night, however, it seemed like they quickly ran out of several beers. Hours state that the bar is open until 2 on Saturdays, so I was a little bummed they ran out of a few beers we'd have liked to try. It was around 12:30 when we tried ordering both a Dogfish Sea Quench and another beer, and they were out of both. Another thing I particularly enjoy here is the open roof. It's beyond cool to see the lights while you're standing on the outside balcony sipping on a refreshing and tasty beer. This last visit was on an evening that was particularly muggy and hot, and with as crowded as it gets here it can get uncomfortable. If they had a better ventilation or fan system to keep patrons cool it would help astronomically. On cooler and less crowded evenings, though, it's a great place to be. Service is something that I'd say they have room for improvement on. It took a while to get beers to our table, and being here for around 3 hours I drank about 3 beers. Not bad for me, but I know some of my cousins were growing impatient with how long it took between rounds. I've had experiences here where it took a while to get our beers at the bar, and I can see why other reviews mention the service here. Aside from that, it's a neat bar and unlike others in the city. If you're a beer fanatic or just looking for a good spot to kill some time downtown, this place won't break the bank. I'd recommend it, but be aware of the crowd size! read more

I have to say I wasn't really impressed by this place. Is it cool? Yeah, of course. Anytime you have a rooftop beer garden in downtown it's quite awesome. The view is amazing, but that cannot make up for the lack of customer care. It's a bit confusing to reach here. You need to take a forever slow elevator to reach the rooftop. Then when you get out you have to show your ID up top. How about you have a person downstairs at the elevator entrance to bypass this. That way you can make a swift entrance upstairs. Getting up top, it's nice looking and huge. But everyone seems to want to be up here. Lots of people everywhere attempting to stake their claim at a table. Makes for a hard time to move about. Service, spotty at best. For me I found that going to the bar myself to get my drink was faster than waiting for a server to get it to me. I watched as my friends placed orders with their server. While this happened, I went over to the bar and got my drink and returned to the table way before my friends' drinks arrived at the table. Great idea - terrible execution. I came here per a coworker's suggestion earlier this month and found that while the space is lovely and the food tasty, the service was too horrendous to ignore. One of the biggest drawbacks of Il Tetto is in the extended name - the rooftop garden. Don't get me wrong: if it's a beautiful day outside, this place strikes me as a great setting for a drink. Unfortunately we live in Pittsburgh and the common threat of rain meant that the garden went from open to covered during my visit. The noise level tripled and the temperature climbed when it did, making the place almost unbearable. I stuck it out because I was really enjoying my drink and the food with my company. Their Pimms Cup cocktail includes fruit flavoring and ginger beer, not the usual combination in this drink. Their chocolate hazelnut marjolaine dessert was amazing, and both the spinach and buffalo chicken dips were fantastic. Unfortunately, getting the food in particular turned into quite the challenge. Our table's waitress more or less ignored me after I placed my first drink order. My coworkers and I had to shout after her at one point because she would walk off before we had a chance to ask her for food or drink refills. Not once did my water get refilled during my visit, by the way. Fortunately I had a Pepsi in my bag to help combat both the room's temperature and the heat in the buffalo chicken dip. The final nail in the roof garden's coffin was when I asked for my check. I figured things were moving slowly so I would ask for it early. Boy was my prediction spot on. I waited at least 30 minutes for my check (I didn't start a countdown until after I had been waiting some amount of time, so I only know it was more than 30 minutes). I even watched people who asked for their checks after me get theirs before I did. Oh, and I only got my check because I told a passing server how long I had been waiting. I expect that I'll check out the other parts of Sienna Mercato in the future, but the rooftop garden did not impress me. Yes, the food and drinks were great. The place is probably lovely enough to visit when the place is open (although I suspect it's covered more often than not). But after that horrendous service I don't plan on returning. read more

Our waitress came over relatively quickly to give us a round of drinks then she was never to be seen again. 1.5 hrs later I left. I had to get home so my friend stayed to close out my tab. Came here for Happy Hour on a Friday with a few friends. It was fairly crowded, as expected on a Friday, but we were able to find a spot at the bar to sit and stand around. Happy Hour specials include $5 drafts, frozen cocktails, and one other drink. The $5 cost for drafts isn't that big of a happy hour deal in my opinion, but getting a frozen cocktail for that price was great. The frozen cocktail was the majority frozen wine and tasted very fruity. It kept cool in the metal glass they serve it in, so I didn't have to worry about it melting on the hot day. Extremely overpriced for the quality you get, and we suspect their beers taps are probably moldy or gross since many of their draft beers taste extremely off and like sour milk, and these are popular beers that you know what they are supposed to taste like. The third floor is the place to be. As long as it's not raining or the movable roof is broken. Then it gets a little hot up there on the rooftop. Both of those things happened to me during recent visits but I will say that it didn't stop me giving this place a four star review for their happy hour. Their appetizers are half off and they have $5 drinks. This is an awesome deal for downtown happy hour and the atmosphere on the third floor is actually beautiful. We recently had a work happy hour here and it was awesome. Other than the roof not working. But we may do and got tables closer to the opening. But there is a lot of seating so it shouldn't be an issue to find a c or to find a place to set your drink if you do have to stand around a table. And the tables are pretty long so just pull up next to someone and make a new friend. My favorite drink is a frozen rose there. It is refreshing especially on a hot summer day. And it is part of the $5 happy hour special so really you can't go wrong. My favorite snack is the carrot hummus with arugula pesto. I know it sounds super weird but honestly it is delicious and I keep on suggesting it to everyone including the people who are sharing our table not part of our group. The pretzels with the governmental cheese are definitely the second favorite on the list. The cajun fries are always going to be a favorite because fries are delicious and a little bit of spice is awesome. I didn't think like the brie as much as I wanted to or the artichoke crab dip. But I will say that on the Brie I did like the the fruit. If you are downtown and want something interesting and different go and have a few drinks and appetizers on a rooftop bar. This is part one of a two part review. That is how much I enjoyed this place. This is my favorite spot in the whole city. We have been in Pittsburgh for about a month, and we have been to lots of restaurants and bars before we go back to New York, and yesterday, we planned on going lots of different places and ended up staying here from around 3:30 until almost midnight. I want to go over the atmosphere. First of all, this is a rooftop bar, downtown. The view of the city is beautiful, and seeing all the people on the street below is fun too. They have these string lights hanging above the whole place and when it got darker, it just looked like a bunch of floating lights and it was really pretty. On top of that, the Pittsburgh pride decoration that they had set up literally everywhere was amazing. The woman bartending told me that they decorate for all special occasions, and if it is anything like they decorated for pride, I want to see every single event they decorate for. We were lucky enough to come on a beautiful day, it wasn't too hot outside, and the roof was open! Completely roofless except for basically the bathrooms, which also by the way we're nice bathrooms. Not like a lot of bars, where the bathrooms are dirty, the bathroom here smelled fine, and it was air conditioned which was very nice. The drinks menu and food menu are perfect. The bar food is just that, It's all just snack type things, and there isn't a huge selection but it makes sense for this place. You can eat a full meal on the first or second floor, then adjourn to the rooftop to have drinks and hang out with a beautiful view, and if you decide you get snacky again, they have snacks to order. They're not overpriced drinks, and there is a very good selection of different spirits. The popcorn we had, smelled better than anything, and it was delicious. It was covered in this truffle cheese and omg I never want to eat popcorn without it again. Then we had a few orders of Buffalo chicken dip, hummus and wings and wow. The Buffalo chicken dip is so creamy and good. The hummus was fantastic, although we did need way more pita bread. The wings were juicy and perfectly cooked and you want to talk ranch dressing? Sienna mercato ranch dressing. Yes. Yes please. I didn't eat any of the zucchini but it smelled great and my friends destroyed 3 orders of it so I would say it's pretty great as well. read more
