This is such a great place to eat. They have an inside and outside dining area. There is also a drive through. There are so many different amazing spuds to choose from. The brisket spud with Mac and cheese is my favorite. They also have different sandwiches if you want to go that route. The steak sandwich is absolutely my favorite thing to order. The fried okra there pairs perfectly with it. The staff there are always friendly and helpful. I like that you can see into the kitchen from where you place your order. Everyone is working so quickly and you can see that the staff is knowledgeable and all work well together. They also have homemade brownies and bluebell ice cream. The location is so close to schlitterbahn, so we always eat there after a long water day. They sell beer as well which is nice after getting out of the hot sun. Overall, this is the restaurant that I eat at more often than anywhere else. They have also opened a food truck location in Cibolo called spud ranch on wheels. We ate there twice instead of eating in schlitterbahn. Price is better than in the park and so much better and easy to walk to. We had a BLT, burger, and chicken fried steak sandwich. Everything is great and especially the homemade ranch. Good menu for picky kids as well. Easy walk maybe .3 of a mile from both park entrances. FYI bring a shirt and shoes to wear or you will have to eat outside. No shirt no shoes no service. I appreciate that rule. read more

We drive an hour from San Antonio to Spud Ranch. The potatoes were as promised and I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries which was really good! The fries were perfectly seasoned and the sandwich had lots of flavor. We also got the brownies for dessert which were so yummy! The caramel one is reallyyyyyy sweet and the pecan one is just divine! Originally I wanted to go to a German restaurant nearby, but they were overbooked and didn't accept walks-ins/rsvp that evening. So, this was the next best place with high ratings. Can't go wrong with giant potatoes and a variety of toppings or combos on the menu. If you don't get full from eating a giant spud then I don't know what to tell you. Solid place to get a spud loaded with anything you could possibly want. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is simply due to the unfriendly staff. I will come back and give them another try everybody has an off day so maybe that's what was going on here. When we walked in there was no greeting and the cashier was not friendly just stood there and waited on us no can I help you or anything. Came into Spud on a busy Saturday. Although they said it'd be approx. a 30 min wait, our table got our food in under 10 minutes. I got a patty melt which was pretty good, but my table got chicken enchilada spud and hot wings spud which they raved about. Definitely get a baked potato if you come here!! We just recently found out about spud ranch and I am so glad we did!! We tried it for dinner tonight and it couldn't have been more perfect! The place is absolutely adorable and cozy inside and even though we did pick up the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. What I took to be either the manager or shift leader was very polite and kind and helpful to her staff which I loved. The food was huge and amazingly delicious. Everyone was way more than satisfied with their meals. I had the chicken fried steak spud with jalapeños and it was u like anything I've ever had. I was in a few days ago and can't say enough good things about this place! The food was amazing and the price is unbeatable for the amount and quality of food. I had a brisket baked potato and my boyfriend got their chicken strips. Both of us agreed we'll be visiting again soon. After being out in the water tubing you work up a big appetite. This spot was perfect! The Texas original spud was huge and had plenty of butter and sour cream and was spread out evenly throughout. Came in after floating the river, smaller place with a light crowd when we came in around 4pm but got busier as time rolled on. Not sure how they keep up when it's busy! The staff is very friendly and the food came out quick. The size of the potatoes are your average baked potato size. I got the spicy fried chicken and my friend got the mac & cheese. Both enjoyed it & I thoroughly did to soak up all the alcohol lol. One thing to point out was a group came in, ladies wearing cover ups but 1 guy was shirtless. Not a big deal but I would think no shirt no shoes no service but, it is likely all kinds of people come through after floating this way. So be prepared to see people, some drunk and in bathing suits, that'll be eating fairly close to you! read more

This is the original location and it's just as amazing as the San Marcos one in terms of service & food quality, but this one has an advantage because it's bigger. I have no problem with the size of the SM location, but I do admit it's pretty small. The NB location is a lot more spacious and there's less elbow bumping. If you're skeptical about eating at a place that only serves baked potatoes, don't worry, I was too. Just get over it and order a BBQ chicken spud -- you will not regret it. Or just order whatever looks appealing to you -- they have a good menu with a ton of options. My fav is the crispy barbecue chicken spud, no onions, add sour cream. It's one of my favourite dishes, no joke. Their chicken fried chicken spud is awesome too, and I ordered that thinking I'd hate it because I'm picky about gravy, but it was so delicious. read more

HORRIFIC prices, two brisket potatoes that we were NOT fans of for 14$ without any sour cream or green onions included which is a bare minimum for any baked potato. For sour cream and green onions it was almost 2 dollars for a small serving EACH, and not even fitting of the potato's size. The brisket aside from being a small portion was stretched even further by having been DRENCHED in sauce leading to nothing but the taste of sweet baby rays. I truly wanted to love this place but paying $40 for 2 sub par potatoes is just not worth it. They pay maybe $3 per potato at MOST and they cook it until the skin is leathery and the rest of the potato is sub par at best. The meat is days old and even though they heat it up with barbecue sauce to warm it and try to refresh it, it's still NOT GOOD. This place is not even worth even looking at, I promise you're better off making it at home for the whole family and spending about $20 - $30 and maybe you won't hate yourself for paying the ridiculous prices they are charging for absolute garbage!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Spud Ranch, home of the FOOTBALL sized spud! I come here quite often usually drive-thru and the food is always consistent! I once asked where the heck they get there papas from and I get a serious response of "Idaho" ...I laughed. My absolute favorite spud is their chicken fried steak spud(Gravy/cheese/huge chicken fried steak chunks), everything about it is near perfection! You must try the burgers too! They have crazy spuds and I'm sure if you asked they would put whatever you wanted together. The toppings on the spuds is what make it such a wonderful experience. Most people think "I can make my own baked potato at home" but you are proven completely wrong once you tear into that beast of a potato meal. My family and I never eat inside probably due to the fact that we don't share and we completely dog our spuds but they have a nice dining area :) The waitstaff couldn't be nicer, I've encountered a cute brother/sister pair that are sweeter than the brownies they sell ;) People, the potatoes are HUGE! You know how Round Rock has that nasty donut well New Braunfels/San Marcos has this huge beautifully crafted potato! I recommend this place like crazy! read more

Decided to try this place out based on reviews. It's off the beaten path and we probably wouldn't have come or known about it except for Yelp. Good thing for Yelp because we really enjoyed the food. The place has a small dining area. The staff were very friendly. We tried the brisket potato and the buffalo chicken potato. The brisket potato was very tasty - not necessarily remarkable - but very good. The buffalo chicken potato was amazing! We asked for an extra side of wing sauce and that made it perfect. Buffalo chicken, potato and blue cheese dressing - very good! The jalapeño poppers were average - not bad but just a typical cheddar popper. We will definitely be back to try the other host of potatoes and maybe even a burger! read more
