RIP Spuds. You will be missed. You were the first pizza place I had ever been in, at the tender age of 12, accompanied by my family in 1966. In 1969 on a warm summer evening I sneaked out of the house and rode my motorbike there to enjoy your Formula Four pizza. In those days and through the 70s you were also a place where my former school teachers used to moonlight and I'd BS with them. You used to have racks of trophies where your baseball teams made up of employees won amateur tournaments. As time went on through the years even well into the 90s I'd drop in for pizza and suds, sometimes bringing a date . As the 2000s progressed I saw you decline both in quality of the food and appearance. Though I'd still stop by now and then, I knew the handwriting was on the wall. Finally I just discovered that you have closed for good. It was a sad ending, and a painful one, because you once served great pizzas, fun and a lot of good memories. read more

Oh what a night! This is not the Spud's you remember. I'm going to preface this first part by saying that I am a (barely) semi-ambulatory wheelchair user. So I went there last night for a friend's birthday party. They had booked it in the lounge, unaware of its location within the restaurant. But the lounge is a raised area only accessible by stairs. When I got there, I looked around for a ramp, you know, because it's 2025. The bald-headed douche nozzle behind the bar comes over, and I asked him where the ramp is, and his reply was "this place was built before any of that nonsense". Excuse me? Nonsense? Respectfully, go f*ck yourself. They will be reported for an ADA violation. I know my friends don't judge, but it's humiliating and indignifying to have to try and struggle my way up three steps while somebody carries my wheelchair. DO BETTER! Once I got there, we ordered food. And like I said to begin with, this is not the place you remember. We ordered two pizzas. One was burnt beyond recognition the other was literally dripping grease. We made the effort of putting the leftovers in a box, but threw them away once we get home. Our friends ordered the signature dish "Spudder chips" and spaghetti. What they got was marinara sauce on top of fettuccine noodles, and basic sliced potatoes that were barely cooked covered in gelatinous cheese. Of the various items people ordered, most of it was so low quality it's surprising that they can try and justify the prices that they're charging for it. Our waitress was the shining light, wonderful lady. Definitely overworked. Think she was the only one in the place on a Friday night. We barely saw her except every 20 minutes. But she was fantastic when she did show up. And this last part is not their fault at all. 100% not on them. But it was karaoke night, and it was pretty much the same 4 regular cycling through all the songs. And oh my God, these folks were ear piercing. Once again, not their fault, but just kind of added to the whole atmosphere of the night. Just kind of made the scene. If you've made it all the way to the end, I commend you. Thank you for reading my story. But here is the TL;DR of it all. This is not the restaurant you remember. The prices are high, the food sucks, the bartender can go f*ck himself, and if you are disabled, avoid this place like the f*cking plague. read more

This place has changed owners and workers multiples times. We've been in an out of here my ENTIRE LIFE. My dad and his best friends grew up going here from HS so it has a lot of memories. We went last Saturday and it wasn't too busy, the waitress was quick to help us. Let me start off by saying I've been going to Spuds since I was a toddler over 40 years ago. I love the salad, pizza & spudder chips. I live an hour away now & when I'm in town I like to stop in a grab a bite to eat. But the last 4× I've been in I've been told as soon as I walk in that there in an hour or 2 hour wait for food. With only 1 or 2 couples in the dining room! Now there may be more in the bar but when the waitress says that 1st thing it obviously turns away costumers. Last time the cook cut in & said the wait isn't that long but the waitress got snappy and said yes it was! So my advice is update the kitchen area for faster food service or talk to your wait staff to have them encourage customers to stay and dine. I wonder if I call my order in 45 min till arrival I will actually get to enjoy a meal there again? read more

In a way , I've been a long time customer. I use to come here after tball practice with my dad, fill up on coke ( not Pepsi traci) and a large pepperoni and cheese pizza and geek out on the racing games. All the trophies and local lore throughout really brings a hometown feel to the place. Fast forward, under new ownership, the place has a youthful energy and experience however still mixed in is the old school flavor. The owner has gone above and beyond to bring the place to life i.e. karaoke , new delicious menu items ( hey the ricotta bites are amazing ) a huge variety of liquors and beers to really give way to cocktails almost all bars don't have ( yes I'm saying spuds exclusive ) and employees that really make you feel at home...granted the owner doesn't realize her liquor sales are through the roof because when she starts dancing, everyone needs to get a buzz going to figure out what she's doing ( I personally think it looks like shes waving in planes to the tarmac , no wonder spirit airlines went bankrupt ). The best pizza in my opinion is the hot oil pizza...your dad wants a slice , your sister does , and most importantly, I know your mom has keep up the good work spuds and stop with the bad dancing ... read more

The pizza is a total greasy mess. The dough they use now is terrible and not cooked crispy at all. When the owner died awhile back they got a new cook to bake the pizzas and while the black lady is very nice shes just not cut out for making pizzas. Shes coming up with these whacky combinations to put on the menu instead of focusing on her craft. I cant believe they actually thought they could raise their price to $35 per pizza read more

I don't like all the new additions, I think Spuds is the kind of place you need to keep as traditional as possible. The CB Sandwich is not good anymore, Sub Sandwich is gone and my favorite Bullseye Pizza is also not on the menu which is a shame. Salad and Spudder chips are still good not sure if they are using smoke provolone or not but they taste good. I will continue going just because it really means something to me and hope things get better but come on with the prices, it's Pac Ave Tacoma and an old pizza joint at that. Pizza was fantastic, we had two pizzas and both were very good. Literally some of the most perfect pizza I have had in Tacoma The fried pickles however were not so good, it tasted like sweet pickles which I was not into at all... they were also slightly burnt so I thought about sending them back but that is literally my worst nightmare so I didn't. Service was not great, the waitress was nice enough but seemed confused most of the time, and we had to flag her down to get drink refills and napkins. We sat with a view of our cars and while we were eating someone came up and started peering into my car's window, I didn't notice because I had gone to the bathroom, but my wife came in after going out and confronting the guy. If you have never been to Spud's before, maybe you will like the pizza. I am not a fan. I have been eating this pizza for over 50 years, and it was my absolute favorite. This "tavern style" type of pizza was found nowhere around here. Recently, new owners have taken over and decided to change the 50+ year old pizza that was loved by the community. It's not a good pizza...and I eat a lot of pizza. In conclusion, if you want to go back to Spud's for that perfect Spud's pizza, don't waste your time. The good stuff no longer exists. read more

Just a PSA Soooo Spuds on pac ave .... We made a call in order and it was wrong so my husband called them then went back to pick up the correct food. They took his food and kicked him out for complaining! Yes we had already paid. Marquis the bartender when I called was extremely disrespectful and said poor baby your little white face must be beat red over some food. Only dumb white people pay mortgages and lease cars and then whine when the cheap bar food isnt perfect. WE will never go back. They stole from us and they disrespected us and hung up on me! Plus the cook was not wearing a hair net and had a huge amount of hair. Always like to give a place a honest try. The ambiance in here is sad, dark and a little depressing. There is no one else in the resteraunt, and our pizza is taking way too long. Update: the pizza was over cooked and the lady in charge was awful. The waitress and cook were being nice enough, but whoever is over them is pretty terrible. She was mean the the workers and rude to me. We had decided to go ahead and take the burnt pizza and she was mad because she had already taken it off the bill. We paid for the spuds, which were good. I've been coming to Spuds for over 35 years. I know they are under newer management, but hopefully with all the recent negative reviews seeming to be very similar, the new owners will take some of these with grace. Tonight my family went in after a very long day of softball. We drove from Kent to Tacoma, just to have Spuds. Order taking and all that was just fine, drinks came out fine- but we were given the wrong pizza and half of it was burnt. We were given the cheeseburger pizza minus the sauce and not the taco pizza. There was literally nothing taco about it. I heard the manager from the back ask the cook if he used the seasoned beef, he seemed a little surprised (I guess he was covering for the normal cook that was out) the sauce was suppose to be a salsa sauce, it wasn't - it was just a normal pizza sauce, there was no creamy salsa topping or sour cream topping and when I asked for that, I was handed a container filled with sour cream to dip my pizza in (insert the image of me trying to dip pizza in cold hard sour cream instead of a drizzled sauce. The pizza was just not good at all, half of it was so burnt that it wasn't edible either. My husband and I both had one slice and the entire $27.00 pizza sat there. They knew we were upset. The host mocked me several times. When we told her what was wrong she said "sorry bout that" and walked away. She then had another waitress ask us if we wanted a box. When I said no, she stood right in front of us basically telling the manager or cook(I couldn't see because of the wall) and mocking me saying that "she said no to a box" while laughing . The original waitress then came over and handed us our bill, with the pizza still on it. I asked if she was going to remove the pizza, since 1st- it wasn't even what we ordered, 2nd-half of it was burnt & 3rd it was missing the drizzles regardless of the pizza it was, as both had sauce toppings. She said "ohh the manager was gonna come talk to you" she then went back, and yea they did remove it- however- the manager didn't ONE time come to address us or talk to us. Being a customer service manager and in training for over 15 years combined between two companies. I was actually incredibly shocked that a leader would not come and address the restaurants issue and offer up a solution vs charging a guest for an almost $30 pizza without even a blink of accountability. The mocking was just the cherry on top. It's super sad. The reminder of our meal was great, my grandma had her normal spaghetti and my husband and I had a side salad and a beer. My kiddo got her normal 5/6 rubber ducks from the duck machine. If this was just my review, I'd consider it a bad day and go back- but after reading all these here, google and Facebook, I'm really saddened that I won't be coming back. It takes one thing to ruin it for lifetime guests. We had 3 generations of people with us today, and that's 100's of visits combined. Just knowing that guests are treated that way and not even remotely trying to hide it. Gosh. It was extremely embarrassed sitting in front of multiple other guests as they mocked our family and me personally, with one other guest being completely shocked and also and witnessing the issues. They also had a burnt pizza I might add. I'd say go at your own risk. 2 salads, a pitcher of beer and spaghetti, still cost us $57.00. Definitely not worth the money quality wise, but it was always worth the money memory wise. read more

I was so excited to go back to Spud's to have pizza. We visited the establisment on Sunday May 28, 2023 and were greeted by the nicest waitress. I always remember the family atmosphere that they had from years ago that's why I wanted to go back. During our dinner around 4:30pm the two young kids that were working were absolutly phenomenal! They turned on their music (rap) which I'm not fond of but that's what the kids listen to these days. I would have asked them to turn it down if I did'nt like it. Apparently the bartender did not like it and came out and said the "N" word to the two employees, the F bomb was used at least twice! (The server was of color) UNACCEPTABLE behavior! If I was her boss I would have FIRED! her on the spot. It's because of people like her, saying those things, that there are racial issues still around today! I was MORTIFIED beyond belief! They are kids being themselves! I don't care what color you are! We are all human beings and deserve to be treated as such! I don't care if she was upset about them playing that music (she tried to appologize but APPOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!) that was simply dimining and cruel! We went today to one of my favorite restaurants that I have been going to for 50 years, Spud's Pizza Parlor . The past few years although were not the same as before. They had gone downhill so much that I had to be talked into going again. After reading a few yelp reviews, I was willing to give it one more chance. I'm glad I did! It was wonderful! We ordered one of my favorite's, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and olives. I was not disappointed! We also had spudder chips and they we done to perfection! We tried the cheese bread and it was fresh and delicious. I started out with a salad that was made just like the old ones with a ton of cheese and olives atop shredded lettuce. Where do I start..... Not greeted when I came in. Stood at the counter, being ignored waiting to place my order. Place needs deep deep cleaned. Asked for ice water, and if I could have the game switched over, was stared at with a blank face. Ice water with something floating in it was brought out, along with "here is the remote, I don't know how to". All this before my food has even arrived. Food finally arrived. My Canadian Bacon sandwich was luke warm. The spudder chips were decent. This place has lost its way. Customer service is non existent, cleanliness " what is that"? Updated review for November 2022. I used to drive from Seattle for Spud's Pizza- but like everything decent, it eventually gets screwed up- and that's what happened here. Mediocre boring pizza, due to the new owners being too lazy to prepare their own dough. The Spud's I love is gone. And for the privilege? A big increase in prices. I'd pay the new prices for the old Pizza, but not the garbage they sell now. Skip it. I'm not coming back unless the recipe goes back to what it was. This is the second time I have ordered from this restaurant. The first time was great, however, this time will make me never order from them again. I ordered a 16 inch pepperoni pizza with mushrooms. It was delivered to my house and when I opened the box, there were no mushrooms on the pizza. I called the restaurant and I was told that they were very busy and only had one cook and they were very sorry. They stated if I wanted to bring the pizza back, they would put mushrooms on it. I stated I really did not want to drive back to the restaurant to get mushrooms put on a pizza and she stated that's all she could really offer. I decided to go ahead and eat the pizza and sadly it was completely burnt on the bottom.
