Spyder Surf has been a go-to surf shop for the South Bay for dozens of years. It sponsors most of the local schools surf teams and the surf events. Every year they have a "Surf fest" down in hermosa which is super fun, there are games and free giveaways. The store on the other hand, hasn't been so good lately. I don't stop by regularly but I have been there enough to have some experiences and see how they run things. The employees they hire are good people, but most are usually too busy for you. Whether it's folding clothes or on the phone I could never really seem like I was in a store. The clothes selection for men is pretty good, they have a huge sunglasses selection. If you want to spend top dollar on surf clothes, come here, it can be pretty pricey. The women's clothes selection from what I can tell is good and they have a lot to choose from. To be honest, as big of a shop they have, they seem to be leaning toward retail and merchandise then surfboards and wetsuits. They have a few used surfboards here and there if your looking for something cheap but other then that you will have no luck. The skateboard section is non-existent unless your looking for a strand cruiser or a penny board. Overall, not the worst surf shop I have been too. Good people, good management. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff! I came in here looking to rent a women's wetsuit after having zero luck at some other places. I ended up renting a men's small wetsuit since they did not have any specific to women. This younger guy helped me right away with a dressing room. The woman at the counter with blonde beach curls was friendly and helpful both at checkout and when I returned it several days later. I actually ended up renting the wetsuit for longer than I had paid for. I called them and requested to have it for two more days. They were very accommodating & they allowed me to pay the difference when I returned. I highly recommend this place! read more

The staff at this shop is so nice! My hubby and I have just arrived from Hawaii where he surfs a lot. My hubby wanted to learn about the SoCal surf spots and buy a new board to use until our boards arrive, and the Spyder staff was really sweet to oblige. We visited this shop a few times and chatted with a few of the staff members here. There was a really nice guy named Payne who spend some time talking to him about the different breaks in the area, and which board would be a fun investment. My hubby already knew he wanted to get a Catch Surf soft top, and the staff at Spyder confirmed it would be a good buy. Be bought the board and a leash that ended up breaking the next day. Spyder replaced the leash for us, no problem. I also must note the store is pet friendly, our pup was with us every time we visited and the Spyder staff was really sweet with him. They have a great selection of clothes and surf gear, and really good customer service. I loved browsing their sale rack, while my hubby chatted with the staff here. Having lived in Cali for exactly a year now...and loving it...my boyfriend & I have decided that it is time to learn to surf. So we signed up for a couple of lessons & started asking EVERYONE (friends, co-workers, the guy on the street) for advice on everything from wetsuits to boards to wax. We also started visiting every surf shop in the area. The people at Spyder are very friendly & helpful. When we went by last week the guy that was helping us out in the back with surfboards gave us a lot of advice & showed us a number of boards both new & used. When we went back today to buy a leash, the guy that rung us up gave my boyfriend a free shirt. Parking is a bitch if you are coming from the south. We will definitely be back for future surf related purchases! read more

WOW! $15 for a snowboard tuneup, super fast turn around! $6 for snowboard boot rental, relaxed policy on bringing them back... they weren't the prettiest boots, but they worked for what I needed and were a quality brand. The staff is amazing! I came here initially because Kyle was so helpful on the phone, after spending a day with all the "local" to Culver City places just not being helpful. I will keep making the drive here for whatever I might need. It's not convenient for me, but the service is way above par. Parking lot is kinda small, about 10 spaces, but I've never had a problem getting a spot. read more

My rating is based on my first experience here, so I can't comment on consistency in regards to good customer service, but on this occasion all the employees I interacted with were friendly and more than willing to answer questions. I initially stopped by to purchase zinc based sunscreen, which they have a good selection of. They have a wide selection of clothing for Men, Women, and children. came in and got help right away. staff is not too informed on skim boarding even though you have 200-400$ boards, got a descent one and was pretty hyped on it and broke after one day use. came back in and the manager haggled me a little but ended up giving me a discount on a repair kit since he said they don't manufacture the skim boards so it is not their fault. overall decently happy but would have expected better a product since the staff said the Victoria skim boards were super durable. 5 stars since the staff was able to help me and 1 star for Victoria skim boards for the quality. read more

Pretty basic surf shop. Lots of "surfer" clothes, watches, hats. If you want to look like a surfer but never plan on actually getting wet then this is a good place for you. The Spyder boards are ok for the price..although no sales person I've ever talked to was able to give me good advice on what to get. They don't have much of a wetsuit selection. The staff is usually not very helpful and busy talking with each other instead of trying to help customers. They will help you out if you ask. If your lucky you may actually get someone that has some knowledge of surfing and the products...but more than likely that wont happen. read more

I am a little biased being that I run my own surf shop in the area. BUT since this is for the PCH location NOT for the Pier location, I feel pretty good about writing this bc I despise the Pier location. The quintessential surf shop should be, in fact, a surf shop, not a boutique, I feel that Spyder (PCH) has that core feel to it. The men's selection is really nice, the women's and kid's selections are lacking. I stopped in there a few weeks ago, and the guys in the shop were on top of it and very attentive. I recently went shopping into Spyder over the weekend and was immediately greeted by an enthusiastic staff that was willing to help me right off of the bat! I told them I was just looking around but would ask for help if needed. A pretty cool kid named Payne told me he'd help me if I needed anything. After looking around for about 10 minutes I made my way over to the wetsuits just to check them out. Payne noticed and came over quickly to help me out. That guy was knowledgable on all of the wetsuits that I ended up buying the new Quiksilver Cypher 3/2 chest zip! Not even shopping for a suit but Payne's knowledge and patience to explain all the other suits perks versus the Cypher's really sold me. Super stoked on my purchase! All the employees were super cool as I checked out and told me to have a good day and that I'm going to be stoked on my new suit. We were in the shop today and bought my 8 year old son a new skateboard. The young man that helped us was amazingly knowledgable and kind with my son. I took a shaping class from Dennis about 6 months ago with the intent of taking my skills to the next level, and he delivered! One tip made it possible for me to skin a blank almost perfectly with none of the ridges I used to produce. That tip alone saved me MANY minutes (if not hours) of sanding time. He gave us about an hour of classroom time (watching a ppt he put together) and maybe a couple of hours in his bay, using his personal Skil 100! He gave us pretty much every tip he has for general shaping (not Fireball) and I can say from personal experience, VERY FEW shapers would EVER be willing to share information like that. read more

Spyder surf has always been our go to surf shop for surf boards or clothing. They are all really cool and easy going people working there. I have to give Dennis a compliment on his employee named Chris. My wife requested some tattoos of spyder logos for our son about 6 months ago and they were out of them but Chris asked for our number and Said he would call us when they come in. I thought this was nice but probably won't get a call back. Sure enough after 6 months Chris called and said we just received tattoos for your son and will put a stack aside for you whenever you stop by. Remind you these are free to customers and still gave us a call saying they have them in. We ran over to the shop that day and bought about 12 shirts from them and some other stuff.
