I have mixed reviews about this hotel. For the price and for it being so close to the ocean (literally a few min walking distance to a nice path along the beach), I had high expectations but they fell short. We thought our stay was OK, but would stay at other places in the future. We love how its dog friendly, so we got a dog friendly room. There was a nightly parking fee (should be free tbh). The rooms seemed a little... dirty. I was itchy when laying on the bed, it bothered me and I couldn't get a good night's rest. I saw some small bugs in the room, not a big deal and maybe because we were so close to the ocean, but it did make the room seem unsanitary. There's a small lobby with complimentary tea and coffee. Upon checking in we got a goodie bag for our fur baby, which was a nice gesture. We loved the close beach access, literally just a couple min walk from our room. Overall, not a bad stay if it costs less than $200 a night, otherwise I would slip on this hotel. read more

They advertise firepits for people staying here. When you check in at 4pm, the firepits are all taken by locals who are having parties. To top it off, you pay for these amenities with your room, and you also have to pay a parking fee, even though the same people are using all the spaces for free and blocking paying customers. If you are going to allow outsiders to park without paying, don't add an additional fee to your customers if you want them to return. Regulate the parking and the patios we pay for. We even listen to this guy brag to his friends that he does this all the time, especially on the weekends. Guess what, weekend customers of the Spyglass Inn, we pay more on the weekend. I would give negative stars if I could. I'm very disappointed. read more

We stayed here for one night during a trip down with friends and the location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. It's right off the beach with easy access to fire pits and a few restaurants within walking distance, which was a big plus. Check-in was a bit frustrating. Long line in a small, crowded lobby and it took 20 mins to get our room on a Saturday. Got into the room, it seemed lightly cleaned. The issue was the bathroom: there were ants, visible mold and hairs on the floor. We called the front desk to request another room but they were unable to do anything. Options were to spray for ants or move us to a downgraded room and there wasn't much acknowledgement of the inconvenience. We decided to stay because we were tired from a long ride and it was only for one night. By morning, the ant problem had gotten worse -- they were all over the floor, toilet, sink and shower. Overall, great location but the cleanliness and overall experience not so great. read more

Spyglass Inn is a cozy and relaxing hotel with beautiful ocean views. I especially loved the walking paths and the peaceful garden trails. There's also a nice little restaurant conveniently located in the parking lot, making it easy to grab a meal without leaving the property. My only wish is that the outdoor fire pits stayed open later they're turned off at 10:00 PM, and it would be nice to enjoy them a little longer in the evening. Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay, and I'd happily come back. read more

We took a one night trip up the coast and stayed at Spyglass Inn. The views are phenomenal and you can't beat the price! I love the fire pits which are easy to start and have lots of seating to watch the sunrise, sunset or just enjoy the day. It's a short walk to beach access and local shops and restaurants. The lobby is super cute and welcoming, with games, tea and hot coffee, and other snacks for purchase, including a s'mores kit to use at fire pit. The rooms are a bit outdated and could use new flooring but overall good for price. Many rooms have an ocean view with patio or balcony and some have a fire place in the room. They are dog friendly which is one of the main reasons we chose them. Once there, they are super dog friendly- your pup gets a cute little treat bag and ball and is allowed throughout the property, including the pool area, which is really hard to find. Our dog hates water but we were so happy to be able to use the hot tub and have him close, leashed to a nearby chair. The pool and jacuzzi are centrally located and have a lot of seating. Perfect for a relaxing evening. I was about to book online for a great rate but the website said to call to book with a dog so I did. Booking over the phone cost $30+ more than online rate PLUS the extra $40 dog fee. Then when I checked in they didn't have the dog on the reservation but were very welcoming to him, so I should have just booked online and saved the $30. I don't mind a dog fee at all but didn't like the complete discrepancy in online vs. phone prices (and I was booking directly through their website). We would come back for a short trip, booking online next time! read more

The ONLY two positives about this hotel. 1. The view. 2. Parking is only $10 though it should be free. Please look at the pictures below. Does this look acceptable for a room that cost us (with a discount) for over $500 for TWO nights? While the view is beautiful, this company thinks it's ok, to allow people to stay in absolutely disgusting rooms that one would perhaps pay $75 a night to say in. Not only are the rooms disgusting, This hotel is ridiculously noisy due to the balconies and outdoor area's, as well as all the dogs. On our first relaxing night, we listened to a drunk group of adults in their first floor rooms (I think 2 or three next to each other) getting drunk and talking at the top of their lungs outside their rooms, until multiple other people staying at the hotel asked them to be quiet. We did not get involved in any altercations but could hear everything going on and it was several other rooms upset by their noise. The next night, there was a drunken guy walking around hello "HEY" and claiming he lost his dog, then he kept standing outside the room below us. The guy in the room below us had a verbal altercation with this guy and they almost had a fight. I'm sorry but while I understand hotels can't control what guests due, I have a strange feeling this happens more frequently than not. Also, we could hear dogs barking, it wasn't that bad, but we still heard them. All and all. it was was quieter and the owners weren't embarrassed by the rooms and they didn't have brown stains on the mattresses, burns on the tables and fraying carpet, (oh and gross carpet on the balconies) this place would be fine. BUT, if you're about to spend good money on a stay by the beach, please take these reviews into consideration. read more

We really wanted to like this venue. Unfortunately, there were too many issues against this inn. For starters, the carpets were filthy. The furniture is old and dated. The lighting in the room was subpar. The fireplace was a small ember and there was no air conditioning. There was an overhead fan - that if you click twice sounded like a mini helicopter in your room. The walk ways outside the room were bad. It could easily be fixed with a good power wash. We asked for a late check out and was allowed a 30 minute extension or there would be a $41.00 check out fee. We had celebrated our wedding reception here at the restaurant 8 years ago. My - how bad can a place go down hill. Sorry we do not recommend this place. On the positive side-the grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed the fire pit. read more

I've never written a review on Yelp for a hotel here we go! It was a late night check in but I had the sweetest hotel concierge. She explained all the details involving the hotel. My mouth hung open after learning (and not catching) that there were not any elevators up to the third floor for the partial ocean view. Yikes and packing for a wedding none the less lol. It took many trips after the longest drive ever but I made it. The room was beautiful and reminded me of sirens and the sea. I only saw black out of the balcony about 10:00 p.m. but boy the next morning!! Wow, something out of a magazine! Having a balcony, made the best coffee sipping view. I looked to my right and if I wanted to I could jump into my neighbors room. My neighbor ended up coming out and we chuckled and stated that we wouldn't bug each other just not a whole lot of privacy. You have to pay $10 for parking. There was plenty of parking no breakfast offered. I learned that there was beach access so on my last day which was foggy (reminds me of home) I wanted to check it out. The pathway sure enough is right there by the ocean and it goes past many hotels many of which offered dining. I loved it. Would definitely consider again just keeping in mind the lack of elevators or breakfast. read more

We've spent the past three anniversaries here & this will be our last. We planned to relax in the jacuzzi our last night, but my husband instead walked in on a couple behaving inappropriately. He notified the front desk because their behavior was unacceptable, clearly unsanitary, & needed to be cleaned right away. We were later told the couple claimed they were "only swimming," which didn't reflect what was actually witnessed. The following morning at checkout, I followed up with two front desk agents. There was no acknowledgment, no apology, & no concern. Just my bill handed to me & I was sent on my way. I understand they may have been embarrassed since it wasn't their doing. Still, with my background in the hotel industry, I know how important guest experience & service recovery are. The complete lack of response especially for a returning guest, is unacceptable & is why we won't return. read more

Boy, did I luck out with this place! I was looking for something in Pismo, and I pulled in here. I've never been in Pismo before even though I'm a California native. Let's start with the staff. Everyone I spoke with was so delightful! Kind. Helpful. All women?! At least that was my take. Super staff! Gas station and liquor store/delicatessen type store within walking distance. Super safe area. My room had a partial view and it was perfect. 109. It will forever be the room I request. Fire pits. Beach access. Coffee in rooms as well as mini fridge and microwave. Oh my Goodness. We came from Las Vegas to spend our 25th Anniversary here. We're used to hot, hot, HOT and brown. This was absolute paradise. I specifically reserved a king ocean view room and it did not disappoint. From the sweetest check-in lady, to the room itself with a special anniversary note AND sparkling cider with glasses for us (I just asked for a simple note-they went above and beyond!) I'm so impressed. The view was breathtaking. I stared out the window for the first 2 hours! They were having a warm spell, so we brought the outdoor chairs inside, stared out the window with their ceiling fan (and in true Las Vegas form-we brought a pedestal fan with us) in cool comfort. The bed was ok, the pillows were not our thing so thankfully we brought our own pillows from home. But the view, to me was why we came. Besides if the bed was too comfy we'd never leave! You could hear people outside the door and next to our balcony, so it's not super soundproof. But I want to thank the Spyglass Inn for a memorable 25th anniversary for us. read more

Not sure if they have done any updates. As nice that it's near beach. I would never stay here again. I complained about it and they did nothing to make my situation better. Only reason I'd never return is because I haven't gotten my deposit back. Stayed there June, it is now December. Have called multiple times and they just say they don't know anything, to go ask my bank. I went to the bank & got no results. Not sure if I'm the only one who this has happened to. read more

This place has positive and negative reviews. The best thing about this place is the view if you get an Ocean view room. However, the lack of elevator can be quite the problem. We got into a room that had a lot of water damage so I would rate the room about a four out of 10 and the view a 10 out of 10 I was a little upset. The restaurant was closed with no information of when or if it would be opened again I think this should have been told to us upfront. We did end up making reservations at Marisol's a few doors north and the food and service was excellent! There is not any privacy on the balcony, so you gotta hope your neighbors aren't too loud! read more

I was a guest on June 7-8, 2025. The greeting upon arrival was not the usual expected friendly and happy to see you welcome from the front desk staff. But I let it go since I was happy to be at the beach! Also, there is no restroom facility in the check-in "lobby" which after a long drive to get there, was very odd to me. The room had a musty odor, the sliding screen door was off track so it was difficult to go out to the balcony. The phone didn't work and I saw the cord was frayed, fire hazard. Even though I notified the staff, no one came to check, fix or provide a working phone. Worst of all, there were dirty socks from the previous guest in the closet! Upon notifying the staff, I was offered a parking fee waive- but my card was still charged. Definitely would not go back. Ever! One star only because I have to choose a star! read more

I stayed here years back and had written a review, along with several photos, but do not see it listed, so will write a shortened review, with what I recall. I was a little reluctant to book this hotel, as at the time, there were some negative reviews, one mentioning bed bugs, but all of the hotels usually have some negative reviews, and this one was a bit more affordable, and looked to have nice views. We ended up being happy with our room. We loved our view of the ocean! There was a ramp to the 2nd floor, so those with walkers or wheelchairs could still access it. (Assuming it hasn't been remodeled in construction). I loved the restaurant that was attached; there was a beautiful dolphin statue between the restaurant and the ocean, which added to your seaside ambiance. Sadly, it appears that the restaurant has closed. There were fire pits outside, and other seating, as well as a path that runs along the cliffs, and along the long line of hotels facing the ocean, making a nice, easy walking path, with views of the sea, as well as checking out the other hotels and restaurants along the way. I was just looking up places to come back to, and had narrowed my choices to three hotels, including this one, which is how I found my original review was missing. Some things may have changed since our stay here, but overall, we were happy with our time here. read more

The best thing about this place is definitely the view from our room. Gorgeous views of sunrise and sunsets. The rooms are a different story. Like I said, the view from the room great. But some of the negatives after staying there, the beds were uncomfortable. One of the mattresses was totally caved in and needs to be replaced badly. The other had all kinds of stains on the mattress. Also, the bathroom light was super dim. My wife had a terrible time trying to do her make up. And then there was the door to go to where the shower and toilet is located. Super loud and creaky. Horrible if someone had to get up in the middle of the night. And apparently every room's door did the same thing because we heard it all day and night. Overall, it was an OK experience. My favorite thing was definitely the view. They just need to do some serious upgrading to these rooms. Probably won't stay there again. We'll probably stay at some of the nicer places next to it. read more

How have people on here not mentioned how noisy and loud this place is? The bottom floor has a nice patio and direct beach access but I was regularly woken up by my neighbors above me with their constant stomping across the small rooms and the doors constantly sliding open. Made $300.00 a night reservations far in advance for a suite with ocean views. 3 hours plus driving to location. Was I let down? There are no words to describe the filthy disgusting room (211) that I received. Even staff was in disbelief of the stains on the carpet and stench in the room. I was shown another available room that was considerably less money. This room was again quite aromatic in a bad way. Furnishings were 1970's at best. I could go on but I just got home from driving back with my wife another 3 plus hours. Nothing available on the coast near where we needed to be. This second time, the room, the carpet looked like it needed a deep cleaning. What's worse is that I woke up w/ red bites on my body. My boyfriend made reservations for this hotel for a quick weekend getaway. At approximately 2 pm, we called ahead to see about an early check in. They stated our room was not ready. When we arrived at 3:30 pm we were also told our room was not ready (we did understand check in time was 4; however when we walked through the property waiting for our room there were several empty rooms for a Sunday). We came back at 4 to check in with a lady with an attitude. You have to pay $10 for parking. The website still says there is a restaurant; however it is closed permanently. The check lady put us in a room directly across from the pool (both of the rooms to the side of us were empty yet we had to wait to check in). No view. Just a king bed. Nothing special for Pismo Beach. Throughout the night I was kept awake but what sounded like a Labrador's tail thumping against the wall. It woke my boyfriend up throughout the night. During checkout we informed the lady. And .... Absolutely nothing. No care in the world. No customer service whatsoever. I could not recommend this hotel to my friends or family. Thank you Spyglass Inn for a most beautiful vacation! The calm cliff side ocean views & promenade were spectacular. The 2nd floor King room with ocean view and balcony were perfection. We loved sitting outside playing cards and catching the sunsets. And the fire pits were a great place to relax post dinner, meet new friends, and roast marshmallows which was a big highlight for our 5 year old - thanks for the s'more kits! By day we were enjoying the pool, lawn area, and easy walk to the beach with the great tide pools for exploring. The staff were all incredibly friendly, prompt, and helpful too which was the icing on the cake. We look forward to coming back. read more

This place was no more than one star! The inside of the room looked like it came from the 80's...or shall I say worn out yard sales from that era. To make things worse, there were two RATS by our door. My husband kicked one, which the picture is attached. Are you frustrated with the current covid pandemic & need a relaxing getaway without the risk of flying or airports??? Then Spyglass is perfect for you!!! I was itching for a change in scenery.... I started researching affordable hotels with a beach view & found spyglass inn. I'm so glad that I found this gem! The hotel isn't a huge lot...it's small and well kept. I was so impressed with the gorgeous coastline view! The check in process was quick and easy. Thank you to Joanna for your professionalism & recommendations! The room was clean and stocked with a small coffee maker & supplies. One thing to be mindful of is that none of the rooms have AC. Yes, you read that correctly.....no air conditioning unit. I went in the beginning of January....it was 78 degrees & went up to 82....the room did get stuffy & warm, especially after my shower. The ventilation isn't the best...I kept the window open and it helped. But I needed more than the window... I called the front desk & they were happy to provide me with a large fan. The fan helped tremendously & kept the room cool. I purchased a s'mores kit to make s'mores at the coast line fire pits. It was so peaceful! There are paths to walk along the coast & also private beach access! There's also a few restaurants that had outdoor dining which are also in walking distance. Spyglass has a heated pool that is open & available at limited capacity. They are also pet friendly!!!! I definitely plan on coming back for a visit with my little fur baby! You have to know that this hotel, like many in Pismo, is a beach hotel. That means the attraction is the beach view and at this property the beachfront view is spectacular! From there the property goes downhill. Outdated furniture and carpet. The credenza that houses the fridge is broken from water damage--it looks like it has been that way for years. The corner chair (from the 80's?) has a tear in it. No microwave is provided. The grout in the bathroom has not had a thorough cleaning in some time. There was no maid service for our 3-day stay--trash not picked up, we had to go to the office to get replacement towels. All of the rooms have outside front doors--motel style which makes the rooms more noisy. The carpet and landings outside were not touched during our 3-day stay--debris everywhere. There were several other problems but I hope you have the picture. The view here is everything! We expected much more! To the GM: Take some of the $300-$400 nightly rate and use it for property maintenance! You have to offer more than a picture window to get us to return! read more

This beautiful hotel is located near Shell Beach next to two extremely popular resorts that overlook the ocean. The rooms are spacious and the grounds are well maintained. The hot tub was out for the first few nights during our stay but the amazing staff advised us that we can use the Cottage Inn, which was a mile up the road. Fortunately, the neighboring hotel didn't mind us using their pool area. read more

Road trip to Cambria and Big Sur we always spend at least one night in Pismo beach. We normally stay at The Cove hotel but for one night I opted to try their sister hotel Spyglass. I'm glad I did because our experience was great. The ocean view obstructed rooms are all on the 2nd and 3rd floor. When you book in advance you have the option to upgrade the day before if there's availability. We stayed in room 301. The view was great and although the balconies are right next to each other and don't offer any privacy we still had a good time drinking coffee and watching the ocean. The room itself is a bit dated and quirky with 2 separate sinks, one in the bathroom itself and one next to the closet. It didn't bother me much. The bed was comfortable but the furniture ugly and dated. It's ok if you're just using the room to sleep and have coffee. The couch was very uncomfortable and weird but it wasn't horrible. The big TV made up for it. There's a walkway along the ocean side that all the hotels overlook. If you follow that train it leads you to a set of stairs that leads you down to the beach. A great little gem of an area with tide pools and rocks perfect for exploring and sunbathing. The staff is super friendly and made us feel welcomed. There's a giant chess set in the lobby and coffee, tea and water 24/7! Ample parking and a decent sized pool and spa. We will definitely stay here again. read more

One could also save cash and reserve a room without a view and still appreciate the view from the lawn chairs stationed behind the hotel. -Online check-in and check-out. -Paved walking path behind the hotel. One can walk a short distance to public access stairs down to beach and tide pools. -Room was available on time and clean. -Hot shower, good water pressure. -Close access to 101 north and south. -Gas powered fire pits behind hotel. -Free parking with room. -Customer service was good, staff were friendly. CONS: -Wifi was slow. -Although room was clean, some fixtures were outdated. No desk in our room to work on laptop. -Expensive prices (but commensurate with all the hotels in this area). read more

For the steep premium, I thought I had an ocean view. My room had no air conditioning and was muggy. This room was not special at all. I have stayed at nicer hotels on the water. The location was great. I can go on and on but one would think I am bashing this hotel. I'll stop with this, would I return? Not at all. I can stay at a nice hotel for a lot less. read more
