I will only stay here when I stay in Pismo Beach. I can't say enough about this place. Customer service was personal and perfect. But the rooms are quaint and have EVERYTHING you need. AC, fireplace, heater, fridge, microwave, lights with dimmers, a fan, heated pool, comfy beds and pillows. Here's the best part, it's about $250-$400 less than all its neighboring hotels. I would leave lower but you can't. After thinking we found the diamond in the ruff we just experienced the ruff. No one disclosed this was happening. The location was good, room was clean, and I enjoyed the heated pool. I stayed in room 9 and the worst part of the stay was the lumpy mattress. It was even slanted downward on the right side to the point of almost rolling out of the bed. The room also needs an average size chair not bar stools for a place to sit and put shoes on. On our road trip back to Southern California, we made Pismo Beach our overnight rest stop. This Inn had great rates and from the reviews posted, it looked clean and updated. At around 4:30pm, on check in day, we received a call asking if we'd be there by 5pm. The office closes at that time, leaving no staff onsite. We arrived around 7pm and retrieved our keys from a lock box. We were given room 9 with a king size bed. Being an end room, only one wall is shared. The room was clean, updated and pretty spacious. A refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and two water bottles, along with a small cooler were available in the room. The bathroom area is spacious and has a separate area to get ready as well. Although the shower was large, the water pressure was horrible. The earplugs next to the bed scared me that this place may be loud. We were exhausted and happy that it was initially quiet. However, around 11pm, the guests next door arrived and it was as if they were in our room. I could here every cough, step, conversation, and the loud thuds of luggage hitting the ground. Those earplugs did not help in drowning out any of the noise. Also, this Inn is small, maybe 10 rooms and the parking lot is in the center, with some spots backed up to a room. Great if it's your car, not so much if it belongs to someone else. If you can tolerate noise, then this spot works. It's walking distance to Shell Beach, which is great for a morning walk, and it's near the freeway. I Personally would never stay here again. I was exhausted the next day. read more

Cute little stop in Pismo! Walking distance to Dinosaur Caves Park and great food choices (Old SLO for lunch, Blast & Brew for dinner and The Steaming Bean for breakfast sandwiches/coffee). The room was clean and had a kitchenette, which would be great for longer stays. It was surprisingly quiet being so close to the road. The staff was friendly and personable and accommodated our slightly early arrival. Location, location, location & yes, it is right in Shell Beach proper. Shell Beach is a subset of Pismo. Since this motel is at the Dinosaur Caves Park [no beach access] End, it is right down the street from both the Ocean & area Parks, as well as, the little shops & restaurants that are in that area of Shell Beach...which is undergoing renovation with an odd curvy slow 5-15 mph street. This motel is basic & simple, and adequate for sleep. We used to live across the street from this motel & we had friends & family stay there a few times over the years. They were usually quite pleased with the place. Since all prices have gone up, it is less lightly to be a bargain. It is great for local visiting families or those who may want to check out this pricey area, prior to living here. Just down the street is also a little public library where you can get a book to read as you gaze over the ocean. The eats nearby range from below par to good. You have American, Bar eats, & Chinese within close walking distance. Seaside Cafe & Bakery is a local fav. which has amazing homemade eats, but is best if you go for a later brunch, since it becomes packed. If you have an urge for huge Eggs Benedict or glorious fresh pastries, then this is the place. You have many more choices if you head either up or down Shell Beach road. You can either deal with the "madness" near the Pier or head to the quieter area hotels & eats at Spyglass. Lido's at Dolphin Bay Inn is a local's favorite. Kanpai Sushi & the gourmet grocery store is also in the Spyglass mini-mall. Since there is no tunnel thru the 101, you need to drive to either end of Shell to cut across to access pricey McClintocks for a good burger or steak. McClintocks, Zoro's, & Ventana, tend to be popular with tourists, but other less well known places tend to be popular with locals. The closest full service Supermarket is Cal Fresh, where you can also find NY Bagels & the Outlet store complex. There is a liquor store/grocery right around the block. If you want more of a full service hotel, Dolphin Bay or it's neighbors are good choices & there is a big beach park that is just down the stairs from the Promenade. It also pays to both check out Goggle Maps & you cars GPS map as you cruise along Shell Beach Road, since there are numerous "hidden" coves, parks, beaches, all along it. Some do have water access, some do not. All are Tidal, and whatever sandy beach will generally disappear at high tide. People do get trapped every so often & sometimes the soft cliffs give way, so use caution, check the tide tables, do not turn your back on the sea, and keep a phone on you. In short, if you are looking for a small simple safe humble motel to sleep at & the price is right, then Shell Beach Inn is a good choice. The neighborhood is stellar, serene, & quiet. read more

Wow! This place is fantastic. Located just out of the craziness that is Pismo Beach, this is a small place with maybe 10 rooms. It's just off Highway 101 and close to a couple of restaurants, a liquor store, a coffee shop and beach access. They have thought of everything in the rooms: a bowl of candy/mints, coffee, ice in a little ice chest and popcorn. Rooms have a fridge and microwave. Wine glasses, water glasses and both kinds of coffee cups - to go and real! AC and heat, a fan for people who need it, small bistro table, other seating in the room and blackout curtains/shades. such a great place to stay and probably the best hotel stay i've ever had! my boyfriend and i stayed here for a night and we were kind of upset that it was only for the night because of how much we enjoyed it it felt extremely home-y, it was very clean, and the older lady at the desk for check in was so sweet! they provided coupons for local breakfast places and restaurants, and everything down to the towels in the bathroom was amazing quality. comfortable blankets and pillows. there was an extendable mirror in our bathroom and a vanity right outside of the bathroom (very useful for doing my makeup while the bathroom was occupied.) the pool was heated, the wifi was fast, and checkout was extremely easy since there was no need to notify anyone. this stay was an overall 10/10 and i would 100% recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area! read more

This hotel was such a perfect hotel for us. The room was beautifully decorated. I loved all the succulents and plants everywhere. It felt like a home. The staff was welcoming and accommodating and just so sweet. The towels and bedding were soft and comfortable. Very clean. My favorite part was the little kitchen area set up with nice glass cups to pour my beer in. I felt like I was a my own personal bar. The pool area was so relaxing set up with cozy chairs, a tiny propane fire pit, and a blanket. The pool was warm and felt amazing. I don't have a bad thing to say about our stay here. This cozy little Inn is truly a gem. The rooms are newly remodeled, beautifully decorated, have comfy beds, super clean and the location is perfect! We stayed in room #7, so enjoyed a Queen/Double room with a gorgeous brick accent wall. We also enjoyed the heated pool, outdoor heaters, adorable sitting areas in the pool area and right outside our room. Just a short walk takes you to some tide pools/caves to explore and some great beach views. There is a convenience store/deli right next door that serves amazing breakfast burritos. Just another short walk takes you to a Mexican restaurant and Pismo Pier is a short drive away. The owners were so kind, helpful and hospitable. This review was based on a visit from a long time ago, so pre-covid. I was fortunate enough to stay here just as the owners were opening up after a remodel. I was going to be staying during the week, and the innkeeper just told me to call 30 minutes before I arrived as she had to come in and give me the keys (I was a last minute and late arrival). The location is beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are super clean and have a real down comforter! Unfortunately, the room doesn't have AC, and this summer week made me miss it. Also, the fan rotation was flipped, and the fan was installed in such a way that the switch was on the wrong side and therefore inaccessible. Fortunately, I had a screwdriver and pliers and I essentially took it apart enough to get to the switch. If you can live without the AC, it's a wonderful place to stay, especially with the beautiful neighborhood and parks/beaches nearby. read more

The inn is so inviting and quaint. I stayed in room 9 and enjoyed the amenities. The beach is a short walk away and from there you can enjoy the sunset. Beach access via the short walk is closed for now because of the harsh 2022 storms that hit the area. No worries, though. Pismo state beach and Avila beach is not far. read more

Stayed two nights for a girls weekend and will definitely be back! Beautiful and quaint small boutique hotel. The staff is exceptional - bringing ice, extra towels, and gave suggestions for places to go nearby for meals, etc. They have a heated pool and each room has a cute sitting area outside to soak up the gorgeous weather. In the evening, they have fire pits around the pool with seating equipped with throw blankets - super comfy. Beds were comfortable and room was fully equipped with a fridge, microwave, dishes, and a separate bar area with large sink. Great home away from home place. Definitely worth a stay! read more

When you stay at the shell beach inn, you should just know that your mind will be at ease because the care and respect you get from the staff are spectacular. Dave and Jodi were very accommodating to our entire family from the beginning to the end. The room keys took some getting used to and were fairly easy. The owner helped instantly when the key did not unlock our room. However, this was solved with an added bonus of the introduction to room keys with our smartphones. My time at Shore Cliff was nothing short of shear bliss. My family and I were celebrating our daughters 13th birthday. When we arrived, we were blown away with what we had gotten ourselves into. After we turned down the sloping driveway parked, we entered the lobby via automated doors like the ones found at a grocery store. The lobby doesn't have anything out of the ordinary; public computer, tv, sofas and chairs, Pismo Beach and Shore Cliff Hotels shirts, hoodies and hats. The usual. The thing that makes Shore Cliff's lobby standout is your ability to see clear through the walls of glass to the calling sea. We walked through the grocery style doors into the lobby, right out the back through another door that led to a beautiful courtyard with a winding path. There is some sort of reclining, circular rocking swing for 2-3 you can stargaze in. Or you have head down to the gazebo at the edge of the cliff that overlooks the sea. After we checked in we went to drop off our bags. We had a double queen with an ocean view on the 1st floor. The room is great, very comfy. We found everything we needed. It was about this time that I got a text. It was from the hotel! They informed me all I had to do was text them and ask for whatever I needed. I immediately asked for more towels. We had a sliding glass door that we could open and go out to a patio with 2 chairs and a little table that also was overlooking the ocean. There was a concrete sidewalk that you could walk along as you took in the view, or head to the parking lot or nearby restaurant. Since there was no wall or fence separating us from walking down from our back patio to the path, we stepped down and continued our ocean viewing. We took our birthday cake and presents down to the gazebo. My daughter was so excited to open presents while eating cake, as she stood under a gazebo staring at the sea as the sun set. After that we did some exploring. The pathway went from the restaurant, along the coast to the gazebo area, over to the pool. The pool is heated, and has a wall of glass allowing you to enjoy a swim while you not only soak in the rays, but the gorgeous view. There are picnic tables for you to sit at and enjoy a snack or meal, and benches are also scattered here and there to sit and enjoy the view. Breakfast was the normal things, grab and go style. It was a large spread and had many options. I can go on forever so let me just end here. Shore Cliff Hotel is an amazing place to visit and you better believe that we will be staying there again. What a cozy stop on our pacific coast road trip! Staff was super friendly (Thank you Dave for the warm welcome and recommendations) and our room was clean and comfortable. We were only in town for a night and didn't get too much of a chance to explore the area but we passed several restaurants and shops on the same street. The inn also had a great pool area and the beach was a short walk away. Only downside might be the lack of AC but we stayed on a warm night in the middle of July and the multiple fans in the room were more than enough to keep the room cool. We would have stayed longer if we had a chance! read more

I have never wrote a review for lodging, but my two night experience at Shell Beach Inn has earned my time to sign on my Yelp account to leave a review so anyone considering staying at this inn, will feel confident to just book it! My partner and I stayed in the Suite room and it was beautiful, spacious, and very clean. My jaw dropped how the suite was designed so beautifully and the attention to detail to make the suite a one of a kind experience. We were greeted by Dave (the owner) when we arrived and he was so friendly, helpful, and thoughtful in making our weekend extra special. I also accidentally left my dress in the closet after we checked out and he was so helpful in mailing it back within a week of leaving it behind. The weekend we stayed, we scored the last available room (we booked two weeks prior). I also remember while we were checking in a car pulled up to the office asking if they had an extra room they can book - but had to be referred to other inns since they were already fully booked. Sounds like when there is vacancy here, you're lucky and BOOK IT asap! read more
