So I went there seeking to buy two mattress. One a full and the other a custom 3/4 mattress. The lady took me through the selection process - first choosing the mattress by style and then arranging for the size you want. It was quick and easy and she was very helpful. I thought that the beds were really expensive but I also know that they are very well made. my last mattress was less than a thousand but only lasted five years. this one can be flipped and from the reviews seems like it will last much longer. the full was delivered the next day but the 3/4 we put on hold because they needed exact measurements. this bed frame was built in the 1700s when nothing was standard. it took a month and a half before we were ready to have them make it. after they delivered it they sent me a huge bill for an invoice that i had already paid. i was worried about this, because i had paid so far in advance. another company did this to me and they are still sending me bills ten years later and i have to check my credit report constantly and have on cue a legal argument in case they do, because they wound't fix it. these guys fixed the problem right away and apologized for sending me bills for a month. a lot of companies don't do this kind of service anymore and customers fall through the cracks, so for all these reasons i keep my five star rating. read more

We had 4 tall chairs that we use at our snack bar reupholstered at Square Deal Mattress Factory. Our experience was great from the very beginning. We worked with Jamie, Pam (I think this is the woman working at the front desk - if not, she's great too) and Clyde who did the upholstery. We encountered other employees as well and all were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We weren't sure about the exact material and color we wanted so they presented several options and explained the pros and cons of each material choice. We decided on a medium brown leather. They met every timeline and commitment they made to us. We couldn't be happier with our chairs. The finished product is high quality and fits in perfectly with our snack bar area. It sleeps well but corner seams began to fail ! Took the van and mattress back to Square Deal and they made new covers out of much more appropriate fabric. In 2001 we purchased a custom-made sleeper sofa from Square Deal, and it's in perfect condition 12 years later. The construction is VERY heavy-duty, so it's a heavy couch, but we are confident that it will last decades. This isn't your typical, disposable furniture that you find in big box stores. Even better, they manufactured it exactly to our specifications. We also purchased a mattress here in 2004, and today (2013) it's as comfortable as ever. My wife prefers a bed that is relatively soft, and I'd like the bed to be a little more firm, but the Square Deal Eloquence model was "just right". (I don't know how they did that.) I found this mattress store on google and decided to come in to price out some full mattresses that I am looking to buy. As soon as I walked in, I told the woman at the front desk I was interested in purchasing a full mattress. She then rudely said, "well. Any mattress can be made into a full." I was taken aback by the rude tone and unwelcoming presence. I didn't think much of it, however as the conversation continued, she then asked me what type of mattress I was looking for. I then responded with "I'm not sure what type. I just want to feel them out and see which one I like." She then rudely listed the options to me and walked off saying "well you aren't giving me many options here." She then directed me towards ONE mattress, knowing that it was completely out of my price range. She asked if I would like a mattress topper or not and as I asked her to explain what the difference was, she rolled her eyes and vaguely answered my question. When I was done looking at the ONE mattress, I asked if I could see any more. She then responded with, "As the mattresses get firmer, their prices get higher." Clearly, she did not want me in the store and I gladly took my business elsewhere. I am not one to pull the race card but I cannot ignore that this was a clear act of discrimination. The woman at the front desk was a middle aged white lady and I am a young Latina woman. I may be young but I am still a buying customer. I had issues with the first bed that I ordered as far as comfort level for me but they went above and beyond to make the situation right because it was still under warranty. I was not the most pleasant person to work with due to just having a baby and lack of sleep but they addressed all of my needs. 15 years ago I purchased a comfortable, full-sized "firm" mattress from Square Deal, and a few weeks ago my back advised the rest of me that it was time to acquire a new one; from the previous experience, there was no question about where to go for genuinely caring service, honest dealing and a lasting product. I entered into the store with my friend who was looking for a full sized mattress and wanted to see what the prices were like, which she made clear to the lady at the front desk, Kim. The lady was constantly rude at each interaction (the full details can be found on my friends yelp review), through her actions, words, and tone of voice we were clearly not welcome. Whether this was a form of discrimination based on race, gender, age, or the fact that we were wearing masks to be preventative about COVID-19, or a combination, none of Kim's behavior was ok. Not only have I always hear wonderful things about this company, being from Chico since going to college. But just today, I had a my car break down at the stop sign right in front of their business. A Lash's Glass truck honked at me as I was furiously trying to get my hazards on and rudely sped past me (when I was already having a hard day). UPDATE: Are there negative stars? In addition to everything listed below, the seam at the foot of the bed has come 90% un- stitched. The sewing just fell apart. The foam is showing. This mattress is 4 years old and is nearly dead. The "firm" mattress feels soft and old. To compare, my 15-year-old-$400-mattress is far more comfortable. I have made a terrible, regretful, $1000 decision I will sleep on every night until I can justify discarding this absolute POS. What a joke. Just buy a futon. read more

We are so pleased with the bed we bought from Square Deal and with the experience we had there. I looked at their website first, to read about and compare information on some of the mattresses, since we hadn't bought a new bed in many years. I went into the store on two separate days, because I needed time to think about what would serve our needs the best and to lie on the mattresses that interested me more than once. Being able to take as much time as needed to lie on the mattresses and get information about how they're made was really important to me. We were downsizing and switching from a soft-side water bed to a mattress, so I wanted to make sure we'd be happy with the one we got. My wife and I had a custom chest bed built in Redding by Natural Choice Furniture. We got to pick the wood, stains, drawer sizes, height, and specify some custom touches unique to our bed. He recommended that we contact Square Deal Mattress Factory for a quality bed. We visited the show room and factory and did some research. We continued to do some research and really explore our options for comfort. I am much larger and heavier than my wife. It can be challenging to find a bed that makes us both happy. We made another trip down to Chico and laid on more beds. And we found the one that we wanted! A latex bed of just the right density and firmness. After having the bed for over a year we noticed a problem. We didn't know if the problem was caused by the mattress, the bed frame, us, or some combination of all. We called Pamm and made arrangements to bring the bed in and have it examined while we were there. When we arrived with our Cal King Bed, the crew helped us unload it. They quickly started examining it and opened it up so they could determine the extent of damage. Fortunately the damage was minimal and only involved the cover. They quoted us a very reasonable price to replace the damaged cover. Within 45 minutes of our arrival at the factory, we had our bed repaired as good as new. They wrapped up the bed in plastic, gave us tips to help prevent the problem, and helped load the bed. Fantastic Service by Jessica!! We got to watch her work on the bed and we learned more about how they are made. We also got to watch a conventional bed being built on the table next to ours. That was interesting as well. My husband and I purchased a brand new RV in 2019 and spent a six-figure amount for it. Needless to say, the ultra-cheap mattress (foam) that came with it, gave out in about 9 months and we discovered we were sleeping in a couple of "troughs". This wouldn't do with my bad back, so we started searching for a mattress company that could make a special RV mattress: a "short Queen-size" with a hinge allowing it to fold in half when the RV slide is closed. After about a month of searching online, we heard about Square Deal Mattress Factory from 2 different friends in a matter of 2 days. Our experience with them was fantastic from the first phone call. We drove from Nevada City to Chico with our RV on Monday and Jessica came out and took measurements of our saggy mattress. We then tried out several custom mattresses they had on the showroom floor, selected the one that we both loved, and placed our order. My husband was going to be having shoulder surgery the following week and hearing that, Jessica informed us that she could have the mattress ready for us in just a few days. We were shocked! (I was expecting at least 6-8 weeks!) We got a call on Wednesday (2 days after we ordered the mattress) saying our mattress was ready for pick up!!! WHAAAAT???!!! We drove up Thursday to pick it up. Not only did it fit perfectly, it was SUPER comfortable! We couldn't be happier! Our first night on the new mattress was heaven and we both slept all night without waking up! What a difference from our old mattress! Square Deal is celebrating 100 years in business this year and are family-owned and operated by the same family that started in the same location 100 years ago! What a find! They were all super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We are also having them make new curtains for the bunk in our RV, as well as re-upholster some ugly panels that were on the valances. What Square Deal failed to mention was their attitude. The lady I talked to was patronizing in her manner and acted as though she didn't know what I trying to convey to her. My impression is that she didn't want to deal with me. No pun intended. Yes it was hot day and I wasn't in the best of moods, and I became frustrated trying to get across to her my dissatisfaction with the work they had done. Square deal does this for a living and it should not be that difficult to communicate a point. No they weren't outwardly rude or unfriendly, but i expected more professionalism. Just my opinion. They apparently look at it a differently. They will I'm sure stay in business and probably do fine with or without my approval. They just won't get my business. read more

Just the best! My wife and I have been looking for the perfect bed and saving for it for a year. We looked at a lot of stores and at a lot of online sites. We found what we were looking for at Square Deal Mattress Factory in Chico. Actually, they made a bed to our specifications. The owners, Jamie and Jessica, and the sales lady Kim really know about the intricacies of making beds. We asked for a certain type of latex for the core of the bed. They knew exactly what we were talking about and knew where to source it. The cover had to be cotton, so they even suggested we use their organic cotton. They then made it to our specifications. We then wanted a split king adjustable base for the bed. Just so happens that they are the dealer for the base we wanted. Everything was ordered and it was delivered and set up on time by a couple of guys that were fun to work with. They even hooked up our head board. They took the old bed away and cleaned up all of the packing materials. This is a quality bed sold, made and delivered by quality people. If you don't have a good experience buying a bed from Square Deal you might want to check your attitude. Also I got a three percent discount by mentioning the Yelp ad. read more

I just purchased a Twin Mattress from Square Deal Mattress in Chico. I was trying to do the right thing and buy local. I got home and was talking on the phone with a friend and discovered that another store had a way better quality mattress for cheaper. So I called to ask about their return policy and was met with confused silence and eventually got it out of the woman that they don't have a return policy because they just don't do returns. So, I told her that I understood, but maybe the employees should tell customers that. I was very polite and humble, since I hate confrontation. I was NOT asking her to make an exception, just stating that I would have waited on buying the mattress if I knew there were absolutely no returns. I literally just left the store when I called. The woman was very short with me. She told me that the information was in my paper work. Yeah, the paper work they give you AFTER you buy something.
