Yes, yes, yes....this is a place that I love. I tried their pizza when they were in Local Kitchens in this same location and I was so impressed that I wrote a review for their pizza. I was sad when Local Kitchens closed because I thought that I would no longer be able to have their pizza without having to drive to another location. So imagine my happiness when I found out that Square Pie Guys was going to be taking over the location.....the best news ever! Not only is this location convenient for me, but the service is always great. Friendly and quick and the pizza always tastes great. Every time I get pizza from here its always has the same amazing taste. I have raved about their pizza to friends and family and they have agreed that this is top tier tasting Detroit style pizza. I most often get the Big Von pizza but have tried the others and also enjoy them. Depends on your appetite, but I think most people have two slices and get full. No judgement if you have all 4 slices of the pizza. Lots of toppings and with the thick crust, it can get you filled up quick. This location is on California Ave. Plenty of street parking nearby also a parking garage and parking lots in the area. Depends on when you come, but seating can get full on the weekends during the lunch and dinner hours. Both indoor and outdoor options. Tip: get the app, you get points for purchases which lead to rewards for free food items and also you stay up to date with specials. You can also order your pizza ahead with the app. read more

We got deals through inkind or else it's a bit pricey for a pizza here. They are super thick so I can only eat 1/2 a pizza at most. It feels pretty oily and heavy but still one of the best Detroit style pizza in the area. Wings are huge and tastes good! Absolutely fantastic Great pizza, friendly service I think Detroit style is clearly growing a lot and will be mainstream very soon - its a no brainer - much more satisfying bite and so tasty :) We had a custom one and a regular cheese one (+ a salad) and they were made perfect - these guys execute so well - I had always ordered from here and loved it but the in person dining experience is superb too - obviously I'll be back Sad that the Zareen's next door completely monopolizes all attention/diners in this area leaving this place threadbare - but it works for me - easy to get a table and have a great conversation :) read more

3.5 stars overall Deduced 1.5 stars due to the saltiness of the pizza; the crust was delicious and super crispy but the pizza itself is way too salty (I think it's from their sauce). Located on California Ave, there's parking available in the parking garage. There's plenty of seating for small groups but can seat up to 10 in a row (20 in total). So the seating arrangement makes it very flexible for groups of all sizes. Wait for the food took a while, but man was it delicious. 2 slices (1/2 pie) were just enough to fill me but could definitely have eaten a 3rd slice. The flavor was amazing. Toppings were fresh and the crust was done very nicely. Tap to pay is accepted. Overall, Square Pie Guys is a great place for some delicious pizza. Pretty good pizza! Got the seasonal special, it was a thick bread crust, topped with oodles of cheese and spicy ranch sauce, and Philippine pork sausage. Quite an explosion of flavour. I think the highlight was the pizza crust, which was beautifully caramelized cheese, unlike the boring bready crusts of most pizza (including especially the stuff you get at expensive Italian places). We wanted to try the crispy brussel sprouts but they were out, so we instead got the lemon pepper wings, which were substantial pieces of juicy and tender chicken, well-seasoned and very crispy. The interior is rather nicer than I would have expected for a pizza place, somewhat spartan like a fast-casual joint at the front, but remarkably cozy around the back. We ordered through the app, which gets a discount but means you end up waiting much longer for your meal to come out (we waited 35-40 minutes, and it wasn't particularly busy). Not sure if it's worth waiting the extra time for that discount. read more

After checking out the Campbell location (see my review) I had to check out this location. It is very new, but the food and service was wonderful. We sat outside on the patio with our fur child. It was a bit chilly because they don't have heaters, but it was well lit. We ordered 2 pizzas and a salad. Both were sooo good and fresh/hot. I do wished they had drinks on tap. Only bottled sodas and no alcohol, yet. Service was so friendly! Many vegetarian options and pet friendly patio. read more

Overall, a very solid Detroit style pizza. This is my first time visiting since their soft opening. There are many poorly rated review from that soft opening that I feel is unfair, so I decided to give it one more shot before I made my judgement. I had tried the musharoni and the pepperoni pies. Both were solid, the pepperoni crisp was spot on. The cheese was a good ratio. The crust and dough were fluffy and crispy on the edges. The main downside though, was how variable the amount of sauce applied was. The mush a roni had way less sauce than the pepperoni. I think in both cases, they were lacking sauce and could use a little more, but the flavor of the sauce was quite good. Overall, it's a decent Detroit style pizza. The employees there are very friendly. The pizzas are pricey, maybe check their app for any deals going on to make it worth going. read more

They took over their ghost kitchen location inside Local Kitchen (next to Zareen's). In 2018, Square Pie Guys started as a pop up in the city and in 2019, opened their first brick and mortar in SoMa. Check out square pie guys for their opening week. They had a promo for first 25 people and get a freeze deepest cheese pizza. I was able to make it to be one of the first and got the deepest cheese pizza. This pizza is delicious Detroit style pizza as it is crispy melted cheese on the edge and soft fluffy dough. The cheese is very good and had a very nice cheese pull. The sauce is on the tangy side which is nice. It is freshly made and at the end they top it off with some Parmesan cheese. The size of the pizza for 20 bucks is kind of on the pricey side. The only issue I had was with this promo if they knew people were gonna be in line for cheese pizzas they should already have some premade and ready to be slinging out the door. But all in all it still went fairly quickly as I got my pizza in a little bit over 30 minutes. I would still prefer slice of homage and slice house for Detroit style pizza as it is better than the price for size is a little bit better as well. However, I would still recommend square pie guys and would be back if I'm in the area. read more

Great location on California avenue- which is still blocked off for pedestrian only but there is plenty of parking along the side streets as well as a new multi-level parking lot that is free. I came here with my bf after hearing about their soft opening on instagram! It was around 3pm when I came here yesterday and it was still quite busy due to the 50% off deal. The line wasn't too long, and getting our pizza took about 20ish minutes. The tables were packed inside, so we sat outside where there was availability. Even though they were busy with a multitude of orders, the quality of the pizza was 5/5. We ordered Ellen Supreme and the Mush-o-roni pizzas with ranch, basil pesto aioli, and cilantro crema dipping sauces! Both pizzas were hot, crisp, and generously topped. The basil pesto aioli was to die for and further elevated our pizzas!! I'm so happy for this addition to Palo Alto! Oh my gosh this pie was amazing! Came here and got the p-lo pie for the $19 special from 5-6 pm on Saturday. It was ready in 20 minutes. The pizza was thick and packed with toppings. It was the perfect combo of sweet and savory with a bi of spice due to the hot honey sauce. So delicious we devoured it in one sitting. We've been obsessed with the SoMa location since the pandemic, so we were thrilled to see the Palo Alto location open, though a little nervous it wouldn't live up to the original. We came in today and WOW--10/10 across the board. The pizza was perfect (crispy pepperoni, toasty cheese, and bright sauce), the wings were crispy and flavorful, the Brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked and the cookie was gooey and wonderful. The customer service was also excellent. Friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. We came with friends who are gluten-free, and they were also VERY impressed. The GF pizza, GF wings, and the GF cookie were all amazing. So happy to have this spot closer to us! We'll be back soon! read more

Came here on a Sunday for their "soft opening" during lunch. Fair amount of seating indoors and outdoors despite tons of people being here for the opening. Good music and vibes throughout. Even though it was packed, we received all of our food (pictures attached) within 20-30 minutes. It was nice that they sent out the wings first, then the fries, and finally the two epic pizzas. Quick thoughts on each dish: - Wings: very hefty, crispy, and warm, but NEEDs sauce for the plain wings (be ready to pay extra) - Fries: similar to steak fries, but crunchier--perfect 5/5 stars -6x8: my go to pizza here; exactly what you're looking for if you like Detroit style with red sauce -Big Von: white sauce was mild, so I'd recommend adding an additional red sauce on the side (you'll thank me later) Overall, this soft opening did not disappoint. It would have been a bit pricey but for the 50% off deal, which came in clutch given all the food we ordered. Service at the cashier was very slow, 2 guys were waiting to pickup to go orders for nearly 15 minutes while the lone cashier struggled to get through 4 individual orders. I waited more than 10 minutes to get to the front to pay for my phone order. While the pizza was decent it's too small for the price. While the Chilled Bowl Salad has elements of greatness, the overall composition keeps it from being a winner. The gigante beans are perfection (more dishes should incorporate them!), the spicy sunflower seeds are an outstanding Robin to the beans' Batman, and the sun-dried tomato dressing is solid (though it would do better as a thinner vinaigrette rather than a full-on thick marinara sauce), But aside from those key players, the salad is college cafeteria level: the overwhelming amount of romaine lettuce and raw Brussels obscures the strong fixings listed above and undermines any potential for a good ratio between the dressing and the other ingredients. In the picture, you can see I've tossed the salad only after eating through a mountain of roughage so that the remainder of the dish actually has flavor. If Square Pie Guys tweaked the ratios and made the base more interesting (case in point: it was exciting to find a tiny bit of kale under all the romaine), the salad would be a repeater, but right now I just wish I could transplant the gigantes and dressing to a better-executed dish. As for the setting, it's impossible to go wrong on a 75 degree night on Cal Ave. No cars and happy diners as far as the eye can see. read more
