I'd give this company a zero if I could. I purchased my plan through Home Depot when I purchased my GE refrigerator. The fridge has gone out 1.5 years after purchasing it. The first time I called was on a Thursday. It gives you a menu then it basically screams that they are experiencing higher than normal phone calls due to the holidays. That's super annoying since the longest I was on hold was maybe 7 minutes. The call kept disconnecting. Once I got ahold of them the person I spoke to kept changing what I was saying to meet the needs of their, what I'm assuming is a checklist. They told me I had to unplug the fridge and call back the next day. I knew defrosting the fridge wasn't going to help. So needless to say, I called the next day and was told it was an issue that GE needed to fix but was told they were closed so call back on Saturday. Well today is Saturday and I was told a bunch of things but that I needed to call back on Monday. This is the biggest scam I've ever dealt with. I'm out a relatively new fridge which is frustrating enough, but now I'm dealing with the biggest runaround. GE is supposed to fix it now and I'm supposed to get reimbursed I can't wait to see what my next hoop jumping will look like. I received a camera as a gift, and along with it came a 3 year SquareTrade warranty, purchased on Amazon for almost $60 - looks like prices has since come down, as the cost to cover an under $300 camera would now be $17.50 (or $40.48 through Asurion for the same 3 year period). I was glad I had the warranty when I dropped my camera. (ARGH!!!) However, since there was a maximum payout limited to the original cost of the camera, I figured I should wait till more things went wrong with the camera. A second dropping and the lens cover was acting up - it was time. I was feeling good about SquareTrade till they dropped the ball. I filed a claim and received an automatically generated email stating that they would review my claim. The next day I received an email approving my claim which included a way to print a shipping label. Most repairs, it said, were fixed in 2-5 business days after receipt and returned within 2 business days of being repaired. I shipped off my device, and received an email that the Item was shipped, followed by another email that the item was received. Yes, all good so far. First hiccup - on the Saturday after 5+ business days, I was sent an email that there was an unexpected delay in the repair of my camera and that they expect to complete the repair 2 Mondays from then (+6 business days). I figured I still had time - if they mailed it upon completion, I would receive it by Wednesday that week. But on Thursday of that estimated week of completion, I had heard neither hide nor hair from SquareTrade, so I tried to see how I could go about contacting them. All I could find on the website was their Live Chat. To start a chat, you have to enter your name, email, and phone number. I found it odd that to confirm us, they ask for the same exact things upon the chat connection. Really redundant and quite silly. The first agent told me that it was fixed, but that no tracking number had yet been assigned, but he would submit for one to be sent to me. Okay, sounds good. I wondered how much of the value of the warranty had been used as I noticed under their Terms & Conditions at the time currently available online: "If We fail to repair, payout or replace the Product within five (5) business days of receiving it, We will continue to service Your Product and the cost of Your Protection Plan will be refunded to You at Your request." So I initiated another Live Chat, only to be told by this 2nd agent that my camera was not yet fixed. Worry hit. I requested a manager and was offered a call back, which came less than 10 minutes after. I was on the phone for 25 min, but after agent #3 had read my notes, spoken with his supervisor, and I explained to him the circumstances around my claim, he offered a solution to my satisfaction. It wasn't economical to repair my camera, so they approved it for payout. Because of the delay in updating me which made it inconvenient for me to obtain a replacement in time, they also would be reimbursing me the cost of the coverage. This would come as a second check. Two business days later, I received an email that the payout check was being processed with 5 day estimated delivery, which arrived precisely on the 5th business day. Two days later, I inquired with them via chat regarding the missing 2nd check for the reimbursement of the coverage, and was informed that they had refunded it via the original payment method. Oh wow. Should have read these reviews before I bought my SquareTrade plan from Costco the other day for a high end laptop. Unable to register my warranty, called SquareTrade three times because the first person didn't know what to do, and the second person I could not understand. Anyway, finally figured out where to go to enter my serial # (you have to select "File a Claim" to do that, according to SquareTrade support). Then I was told that I need to upload my Costco receipt and when he figured out which option I needed (yea, it's not user friendly!) - it appeared that Costco verifies your purchase automatically. Oh - and every person I called asked me if I purchased other electronics in the past 30 days and what they were, even before attempting to help with my registration question. I get it, you're trying to sell warrantees, but not a good way to start with a new customer. I don't like Costco (jerks working there) and not so much love for SquareTrade at the moment. read more

I am updating this review (1/13/20) Monique called this morning and we were able to come to a satisfactory resolution. I am updating my review to reflect this. I appreciate them making it right. ----------------------------------------------------------- I have to say, dealing with ST has been the worst customer service and warranty service I have ever encountered, I sent my laptop into them with the same issues they had "fixed" a few months earlier. All of a sudden, it had water damage. This is impossible as it is stored on a shelf far above my desktop. Short of a water hose, I cannot see how this would happen. My thought is, as their technician stated, it was probably a motherboard. Given the cost of this, I believe this excuse came into play. They cancelled my warranty without notice and shipped it back to me (still have yet to receive). Talking to the "trained" technicians, I was chuckled at, told there was noone else in the building and otherwise treated to a condescending tone, etc. The technician manager ever asserted my AIR CONDITIONING could have been the cause....really???? This is an update of my previous review. After posting my original review, I was contacted by Square Trades Customer Service Department. I was told they had read my original post and investigated my complaints. The Customer Service person was pleasant and offered her apology for my experience. She also confirmed my complaints were valid and she couldn't explain why no one contacted me nor kept me updated on my repair. I was offered a refund of my extended warranty purchase price, which I have received. I feel Square Trade was very fair and truly interested in fixing my problem. The only reason I'm not rating them higher is the laborious process to file a claim in the first place. However Square Trade is not the only provider of extended warranties that makes this process very difficult. read more

The sales rep. from square trade told me that the 3 year extended warranty I purchased for a printer that I bought from Costco would begin after the manufacturer's and Costco warranty expired. I get a two year warranty through Costco with the purchase at no extra charge. In essence, I would get 5 years of coverage with the 3 additional years from square trade. I read the square trade contract it said that the extended warranty expires three years after the purchase date. Why would I buy a three year warranty when in effect it's only good for one year? So Far, my experience with Square trade has been abysmal to say the least. I purchased Phone insurance through them in Nov 2018 for my (at the time) new I phone. Recently I dropped my phone and the screen cracked, this is my first ever time having to reach out to them for a claim. They refused to assist and told me to contact the Store (Target) from where I bought the phone. Target are currently trying to track down my Receipt to assist. Square trade have the ability to pull your monthly subscription every month from your Bank account but when it comes time to actual make a claim, they tell me they cannot locate my warranty and cannot assist until Target provides assistance. I find this very difficult to believe as my Contact number and CC are clearly on file with them yet they fail to assist. Do not, under any circumstances, use Squaretrade for insurance of your equipment. There are now much better options out there. read more

Nothing but lies and fraud going on here. I had around 5-6 warranties with these scam artist, my hard drive stopped working, and they would not honor the warranty. They kept demanding a receipt even though I told them I no longer have an account with that retailer. Yet all my warranties and information are still in their records so they could have easily replaced the hard drive but chose not to. After almost 2 months of lies and the runaround, I told them I demand a refund for all warranties. I specifically asked for a check to be sent out, because; I no longer bank with the same bank. They reassured me they would send me checks. Fast forward the next day I get emails from the retailer stating that my old bank card (which is closed) has been refunded the amounts. I dropped the computer about a month ago and one of the hinges that holds the display on. I tried limping along but then I remembered the warranty. I figured why not - I won't any worse off... So fully expecting a litany of BS, hidden fees, and excuses I went to the website and followed the directions. They came back right away and said the claim is approved. They sent me FEDEX prepaid label and that was that. I got the computer back about 4 days later. They fixed the hinge and some other parts on the display that I hadn't noticed were broken too. No deductible, no service charge, no nothin... They did exactly what the warranty promises!!! I couldn't believe it either. Once I got to a person, the woman was extremely pushy and constantly hammered me with questions about why I wanted to cancel. One after another, she tried to make me feel like an idiot for cancelling, telling me thatme other coverage didn't do anything for me. I finally got so frustrated that I had to interrupt her to clearly ask for the 5th time to please cancel. She then asked me 3 more questions and finally put me on a 5 minute hold to come back and tell me it's been cancelled. I'm never recommending anyone to spend their money with this company when their customer service is so horrid. Their site is so hard to navigate too... A long one but might be of interest. In Oct 2020 I purchased a Maytag Double over glass top stove from Home Depot. I bought it from them for some very specific reasons. 1: They matched the price of other vendors, had stock, and most importantly had a viable extended warranty program. The availability of the extended warranty was the key reason I bought from Home Depot having experienced their service regarding previous appliance purchases. 2: Previous purchases of major appliances (washer, dryer & inverter microwave) proved these extended warranties were a good investment as they extended the warranty out to 5 years. It was used once for both the washer & dryer and the microwave. The cost of the repairs was significantly higher than the cost of the extended warranty programs. Earlier this week, the rear right burner stopped turning off completely and would not work in the 1& 2 o'clock positions. A serious failure. In addition, the upper over had slowly been taking longer and longer to heat up to a high temperature. I went through, found my original bill of sale and my warranty registration. I then went to "Squaretrade's (owned by Allstate Insurance) and registered my claim (remember, this is a stove with a burner that won't turn off completely.) That was 3 days ago. I have had to initiate every call which goes through a US site, set up to service American customers, not Canadian customers. The US site runs you through all kinds of questions to check it's you and not a scammer and then when you say "Home Depot Canada", they redirect you to a "Canadian site" and you go through the entire process again. According to my phone records, I've now done this 13 times. The initial contact told me 'We were going to go through some troubleshooting steps that he was confident would solve the problem. The 1st was for me to pull the plug for "one minute" and that would reset the burner (for the novices, this is how you "fix" a big screen TV that won't turn on) I pointed out it was a mechanical rotating burner that you could hear it was not engaging. The next solution was to pull the breakers for the kitchen and that would reset the stove. I pointed out that I live in a part of the country where long power outages are a weekly event and the damn stove has been rest at least 6 times in the last month. I've met gnats with a higher IQ's. One half hour he called me with an amazing program solution that he was confident I would be thrilled with. I was to search and find a technician to fix my stove, pay for the service and submit the bill to Squaretrade/Allstate for approval. If they approved it, I would be paid somewhere down the line, maybe.................. I pointed out to him, that all of those things were what I was paying his company to do and certainly weren't my responsibility and I was not Squaretrade/Allstate's bank. Now things get really interesting. I received another call from a representative of Squaretrade/Allstate with another solution. He informed me that they in fact had "NO ONE" in Durham to provide that service (repairing my stove) so they were going to rebate me my money spent on the warranty. The stove repair would then be my problem. I've been to Home Depot twice, promised action and got nothing. I spent today alone over 4 hours on hold for Home Depot Canada only to have them hang up 2 seconds into the conversation when they finally answered. I tried connecting with Atlanta only to find that even there, no one answers phones. I've left a message for their VP of Ops but would be surprised if I heard a peep out of her. So, in effect, Home Depot sold me a product that they or their partner Squaretrade/Allstate knew there was NO support for which no matter how you slice it is fraud. Additionally, they use the warranty program as a competitive advantage which is also a major issue. Had I known that the warranty program was in fact nonexistent, I would not have bought the appliance from Home Depot. It is my intention to file a formal complaint with the Competition Bureau for deceptive marketing practices. In addition, any consumer who purchased a similar product will have also been defrauded and rather than this being a single consumer, it may encompass hundreds of Home Depot customers over the last 3-4 years. I will also initiate a small claims lawsuit against Home Depot Bowmanville and Squaretrade/Allstate to recover the cost of my warranty, interest, the loss of my time @ $200.00/hr early next week read more

I think for the first time ever, I actually bought a warranty on something (a rather expensive 75" TV that I purchased at Costco almost 2 years ago to the day). We had our fireplace re-tiled the other week and had to dismount our TV from the wall and I set it alongside the bed in our spare bedroom until they were finished. It was during that time that it accidentally fell forward as my wife was cleaning. Whenever I picked it up (albeit terrified to see what lied beneath) all seemed fine?!? A week later after our fireplace was finished, I remounted it, plugged it in and it looked as though someone spilled a bottle of ink on the display. So it obviously broke during the fall. So I was like hmmm "I WONDER IF I BOUGHT THE WARRANTY ON THIS?" and to my pleasant surprise, sure enough I did! Even had all of the original receipts and documentation that went along with it! So I immediately filed a claim with Squaretrade that got declined within 24 hrs. The follow up to said claim got declined even faster. What a Ripoff! At this point, I'm just going to purchase a new TV as my time is valuable and I cannot continue going round and round with your interns. But I will tell you this much... from this point forward, I will make it my personal life mission to talk as many people as I possibly can out of purchasing this useless warranty. Heck, I'm flirting with the idea of possibly having T-Shirts printed saying how awful t Squaretrade is, but have since decided to apply those printing funds to the cost of my new TV (I may revisit that later however). But why the @#!$ did I buy this warranty again? Yep... you guessed it. For situations such as what happened with my TV. Otherwise, what am I waiting on... that 0.5% chance of a lightning strike hitting my home, of which 100% of those volts would have been caught by my mack daddy surge protectors. Um, kind of a weird thing to receive since the experience wasn't great. I bought a water kettle for the office that had square trade protection offered and the pot ended up melting to the the actual base that heats it. Our office bought a second one, (I know that sounds stupid but we really had liked the first, and we hoped it was just a fluke experience). Bought both kettles new off Amazon. When the second kettle overheated we filed a claim for the kettle (they thing was only like $40) but they denying it, saying it was a manufacturer's defect. Pretty awful warranty service. I've had different warranties for a number of years with them. Their website hasn't changed or updated in like 10+ years....there are very few options when inside of your account and it's pain to do almost anything. I've had a family phone plan for 2+ years. I've made 2 or 3 screen repairs claims during that time. 2 of out of 3 have been a nightmare. First, they require a receipt. Modern phone purchases don't really have a receipt, when purchased and financed through the carrier. You basically just pay a 0% interest loan off every month on your cell phone bill. There's no hard copy receipt unless you bought the phone outright from a major retailer. Despite it being 2021 and literally EVERYONE knowing this, it was like pulling teeth. I had to go back into the AT&T kiosk at a Sam's Club and get them to print me some generic, back-dated receipt showing I paid the tax on the phone at the time. Anything I provided from my actual AT&T account, which is really who I bought the phone from (Not Sam's) wasn't good enough for them. Another repair went back and forth for nearly 2 months. The local repair center tried 3 times and Squaretrade requested a letter saying it's unrepairable. The repair center had never even heard of that (and said they don't like dealing with ST). Eventually, I had to send the phone in to them and I got it replaced. Total nightmare situation. Lastly, which is important.....their website is terrible and I was never able to add a newer phone to my plan, despite having a blank spot on my 4 phone plan I've been paying monthly for. This phone's screen cracked Dec 13, 2021....I was unable to make the claim online and had to call. Got transfered and put on hold about 6 times until eventually they said their policies all got changed and as of Dec 1st, you can no longer add phones to the plan; that I would need to start a new plan, but they couldn't cover this phone because it's already broken. THEY ADMITTED TO NEVER NOTIFYING THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THIS CHANGE TO THEIR POLICY AND COVERAGE PLANS. It went up through a manager, the sales guy genuinely felt bad and all but said it was their fault and I'm getting screwed. They absolutely refused to work with me and allowed me to cancel every plan I have with them, right there on the spot, instead of rectifying an issue that was only 13 days old and one they admitted to messing up on. Insane. I was already annoyed with them before but just didn't want to do the work to find a new plan. Now I will. Their customer service is nearly worse than their 1998 website. read more

Completely misleading business practices. I purchased a warranty on a smartphone. When it got damaged I filed a claim and was instructed to get it repaired and to pay for it first. I submitted the receipt and checked back on the app at a later time; it told me RECEIPT RECEIVED. I checked back even later than that and it said REPAIR PAID. Fast forward and I realize that I never received payment from Square Trade! I got back in touch with them and they told me that actually they never received a receipt, and that's why I never received a payment. And since my warranty was now expired there's nothing they can do to help me. I asked them why does it matter if my warranty is expired if I submitted a claim during the eligible time period and they communicated to me (through the mobile app) that I did everything I needed to do? Just another case of an insurance company looking for any technicality to deny paying a claim made by their customers in good faith. The same supervisor referenced several times in other yelp reviews, SHAH ZAIB, contacted me. Why is this guy still with the company? Every time it's an issue that's clearly covered, such as wear and tear or a broken part which, by the way sounds like mechanical failure to me, they find a way to tell me its not covered. Rip Off! I bought coverage on an expensive Breville convection oven that as I feared, stopped working as soon as the manufactures warranty expired. I filed a claim with Square Trade and they notified me in a day or two that my claim was approved and a replacement oven would be forthcoming as soon as they could locate a replacement (? They still sell them on Amazon!) And that should take place within 5 days and they would contact me with shipping info for tracking. That came and went with no replacement and no explanation. I purchased a tv ,with the added warranty protection, it worked fine for over a year , the after a storm , the tv wouldn't power on I filed a claim online , then was directed to call the toll free number having to repete all information again and requested to attach a dated receipt Thank goodness my order was online I had great difficulty there was no way to attach a receipt to my continuing claim I spent an hour after scanning receipt hunting the button to complete that task I contacted an agent thru chat requiring I again repeat all my information, claim , serial, model email dates price again and again Then told to click the continue button after logging In , then click download receipt THERE WAS NO DOWNLOAD BUTTON I called toll again again the rep sent me an email to attach receipt In the mean time I received an email instructing me to reset tv by holding the power button on tv And to call the toll free number again I felt I was getting nowhere but called the rep said your tv wA damaged I said no its not working due to power outage she said we don't cover damages I said my tv wS fine we had a storm , she was very hard to understand and there was so much back ground noise I even told her that she said how is it connected I said electrical to an outlet , she said we don't cover power outages I said my tv was connected to a surge outlet , she says you'll get a decision is 1 to 2 days I waited 4 no response I called a supervision said I'd get a response in writing in 1 to 2 days by email Well I got it in minutes denial to read fine print in coverage it wasn't covered I see loop holes in coverage I won't purchase a warranty thru Walmart again waste of money I will be contacting the bbb as while filing my claim the website said power is covered ​ read more

Just an update to the my post on Yelp. I have finally received the correct amount for the claim on my computer repair. It has only been 6 1/2 weeks but they finally got it right. I guess posting reviews on Yelp and complaints to the Better Business Bureau helped. Most of the people that I talked to and chatted with at Square Trade were trying to be helpful. I don't know which department had the problem but I am glad that it was finally resolved. They even refunded me the cost of my warranty and said that it would not effect my coverage for the rest of the time period that I am covered. Hope I don't have to file another claim and find that this is not true. I have another 10 months on my warranty. Thanks for the help. read more

I purchased an extended warranty thru Square Trade for my riding mower. I called them to file a claim and immediately got a response, via email, that my claim was approved and all I had to do was get the item fixed, upload my receipt and I would be reimbursed within one business day. Here it is 21 days later, 8 phone calls lasting 30-45 minutes and being on hold, and 3 emails telling me that I would hear back from someone within 2 days. After 3 weeks of wasting my time I still have not received the reimbursement for the parts, labor and repair. Nor will ANYONE explain to me what the hold up is. How do you approve a claim in writing, and then not honor it. I am now in the process of gathering all my information and documentation so I can file a suit. All this unecessary bs because they don't stand by their word. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. Absolutely rip off Have a 82" TV mounted , and they wouldn't cover the warranty , because TV is mounted and I don't have anyway to get to serial number , and they said in order for them to do repairs , I have to take the TV down for them to do the repairs. read more

I have always been pleased with Square Trade until recently. I had an I phone that had a screen that went bad. Less than a month after receiving the replacement it started with intermittent screen response. Tried to email without response. Tried to call but had long hold times and couldn't get through. When I finally got through was informed they only warranty repairs for 30 days and they were unable to help me. I have no way to respond other than adding to my review. My warranty expired in April but normally after acclaim I'm used to it being extended. I emailed less than 30 days after so that my claim would not be closed and no response. Since the issue was intermittent I wanted to let someone know prior to worsening. When I had issues I was not alway in a place or time I could be on hold etc. As I said when I finally got through I was told it was over 30 days despite me explaining the situation I was offered no option for help. Shout out to Nicole...who persistently called leaving VMs and said to trust her she would fix this problem. SHE DID! She listened and reviewed our case and a check was in our mailbox by the end of the week. So I upped my review from a 1 Star to a 3 star. Square trade...you need to staff Nicole's at the front end, Not people in a different time zone and country that don't understand what it means when I say a child was assaulted and their phone was literally destroyed so that the police could not be called and we need help. To have to argue with incompetent front end representatives and get varying stories is NOt acceptable. I am eternally grateful SquareTrade had Nicole reach out to us...but why did I have to give a bad review...hoping someone would reach out? Terrible company to deal with. Bought a Home Depot protection plan only to find out when it was needed that SquareTrade's policies are more limited in the service they provide than how they are perceived when buying the plan.
