I have always been pleased with Square Trade until recently. I had an I phone that had a screen that went bad. Less than a month after receiving the replacement it started with intermittent screen response. Tried to email without response. Tried to call but had long hold times and couldn't get through. When I finally got through was informed they only warranty repairs for 30 days and they were unable to help me. I have no way to respond other than adding to my review. My warranty expired in April but normally after acclaim I'm used to it being extended. I emailed less than 30 days after so that my claim would not be closed and no response. Since the issue was intermittent I wanted to let someone know prior to worsening. When I had issues I was not alway in a place or time I could be on hold etc. As I said when I finally got through I was told it was over 30 days despite me explaining the situation I was offered no option for help. Shout out to Nicole...who persistently called leaving VMs and said to trust her she would fix this problem. SHE DID! She listened and reviewed our case and a check was in our mailbox by the end of the week. So I upped my review from a 1 Star to a 3 star. Square trade...you need to staff Nicole's at the front end, Not people in a different time zone and country that don't understand what it means when I say a child was assaulted and their phone was literally destroyed so that the police could not be called and we need help. To have to argue with incompetent front end representatives and get varying stories is NOt acceptable. HORRIBLE service .!! I've been on the phone with them on/off for 2 months trying to get my reimbursement for my TV that broke. 4 times they tried to send it in a gift card and it didn't work then the 5th time an employee lied to me and told me that the check should be at my house within 3-5 business days. I have them 7 days and no check so o can and when i do they tell me no one ever put it in for a check. So BAM workers are just lying not doing their job. So now it's the 6th time and they try to send a gift card to ANOTHER email, which obviously it didn't work and now I'm on the phone with them trying to see wtf we are about to do. I bought and insured a tv. After it broke down I called scamtrade who told me my policy had expired so it took me 2 weeks to prove them wrong. Then they agree to replace my tv. They told me I was going to get different options. They sent me a link for one single "tv ", which was worth less than a half of what my tv was currently worth and one third of the original price. So I called them and they said they will make another of in 2 working days... it's been 4 days and still nothing. Got the run-around for a week: "please upload a picture of the model number stamp," "please upload a video of the appliance," "please describe the issue" - and around and around. I finally said "enough" after trying to get them to honor the warranty. At this point I'm just going to pay out of pocket. Complete incompetence and waste of money. Don't bother. Paid for protection on a monitor that I bought. After a while the monitor started to fail, losing pixels and having black edges randomly pop up. Filing the claim was easy and things were going well. The problem came with the resolution. They wanted me to take my monitor in to a repair shop. This sounded strange to me but I get it, they cant just replace everything. I called 3 places around here that I thought would be able to help and each one kinda laughed at me. Told me there was really no reason to try and repair it. It's a monitor and attempting to repair it is going to cost more than buying a new one. This made sense to me and was what I kinda thought to begin with but I tried. Contacted Squaretrade to let them know this and it was like I was talking to a brick wall. They just kept repeating that I needed to take it in for repair. I asked over and over if the repair was more expensive than the monitor am I going to get reimbursed? Cause that's what is going to happen. They wouldn't answer the question. I asked them if there was a recommended repair shop and explained what the ones that I spoke to said.. again, "you need to take it in for repair". Am I talking to an AI? This cant be a human being right? There was zero chance that I was going to take this in for repair, get a bill twice as much as the cost of the monitor and get stuck with it cause they refuse to pay it, so I just didn't bother pursuing this any further. Non-Sense Company & Tactics. After purchasing a policy through Staples on my all-in-one computer, 8 months later, I needed to file a claim. Took it back to Staples EasyTech Center (place of ST policy purchase) and the diagnostics showed the cost of repair with parts & labor exceeded the coverage of $499. It's been a month of getting the run around from ST with numerous promises of supervisors to call me back. These include Fred Roberts ( always off) and Shaw Zaib. Just false promises. I witnessed Staples selling this policy to an elderly couple when they purchased a laptop for their grandson. I can't imagine this company running that poor elderly couple through this non-sense should they need to file a claim.And this Company is owned by Allstate! definitely I don't feel I'm in good hands.. I filed a complaint with the California Insurance Commissioners office as well as Channel 7 on your side and NBC Investigative reports. ST revenue was $1.6 billion last year ( at $149 per consumer). Just think how many individuals are being taken advantage of. They also sell their policy at Costco, Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon. I do appreciate them attempting to improve my experience and trying to make it right. I also acknowledge that it seems many companies have moved to this business model and I'm sure it is more profitable for them. I kept 2 Stars off as this didn't change my actual experience or the fact that as a whole the industry is getting more and more expensive and increasingly becoming closer to being out if financial reach for many. I had to replaced my phone twice in the two years of having SquareTrade and both times was a relatively easy process. There was a deductible for it that I had to paid but the phone was replaced. First time I had to wait for a few days because we were in a remote town in Alaska and no services. Second time I got it replaced within two days at the Apple store. Walmart protection plan, i had to contact to add my phone model number, then they issued me a payback less than the purchase price when the walmart protection plan clearly stated that the you were entitled to the purchase price, then called in customer service representative edited my claim CHANGING MY PHONE model to a different model and stating I WAS NOT ABLE TO QUALIFY FOR A CASH PAYBACK when my plan clearly stated I could repair, replace, or get cash back. WTH! Finally they made me sign an affidavit to get my cash back but the affidavit said nothing about the pay back price just they'll pay me back in 24 hrs. the whole interaction was super shady and frustrating and would not recommend this business to anyone. honestly i'm seriously thinking of not buying another walmart phone or using their service. My phone screen broke and they sent me to a store that doesn't have my parts, who keep telling the company they don't have parts and stop sending people to them. That was a week and about 5 phone calls ago. Every day "claim is with claims dept, you'll have an answer by the end of the day". They say nothing helpful and leave you on hold the whole time to "do more research with supervisor". They come back to the phone after the first time on hold to repeat themselves and say they will be putting you on hold, and put you back on hold for 5 minutes. I had them before with T-Mobile and when I filed a claim they would send me a replacement phone, a box , and shipping label for me to send my broken phone in and that was it, no need to be without phone or running around trying to get it repaired.oh and this was sent over night. My son's iPad was bent and shattered. Square Trade sent us back an iPad with a screen intact and less of a bend. I'm not sure if it was my son's original iPad or a refurbished one since all of the representatives couldn't seem to find the answers when I reached out to them. If you try to upgrade to a new iPad with Apple, you get a really good credit toward the upgrade if the device you trade in is not warped. I paid for this insurance but the device is still considered warped or defective by Apple. I'd rather just buy from Apple instead of Walmart and get Applecare instead of Square trade. At least with AppleCare, you are guaranteed a replacement. They aren't going to give you a minimally damaged or less than perfect device. read more

I'm currently in the middle of the biggest waste of time trying to get a claim processed. I've had so many "chats" with service agents, so many attempts to process the claim online, was told I was being issued a refund now I'm told my claim is still in process. Count me amongst the SquareTrade haters. My 3 year old TV started powering off unexplainably and inconsistently and a line of pixels went dead. My first thought was, "glad I bought that extended warranty." Boy was I wrong. Since the TV also had a slight burn-in, I added that problem to the list of issues when I submitted my claim. Little did I know, that would be my undoing. They took that one issue and are denying my entire claim. After looking through my contract with them, I don't dispute "burn-in" is not covered, now that I've read through it. However, I don't see anywhere in there that having a non-covered issue voids the entire warranty against issues that should be covered. I've requested multiple times for them to address where their agreement allows for this and they just keep pointing tot he fact that "burn-in" is not covered. I agree, but the powering down, my main issue should be! If your engine blows in your car after a year, the car manufacturer can't deny the claim because you also stated you scratched the dash which isn't covered. I have previously been more than satisfied withh SquareTrade. I'm jus a little disappointed with the service that I have received from ST lately. I damaged my IPhone X by getting it wet on Oct. 28th. I received a replacement reconditioned phone in a few days (Nice). The phone was beautiful, but the touchscreen was unresponsive in a horizontal band about 1/4in from the bottom. I contacted ST, who sent me a second reconditioned phone which I received on Nov. 4. On this one the touchscreen completely stopped working on 11th. The phone had no physical damage and ST sent a third reconditioned phone under their warranty. Unfortunately, this "Unlocked" replacement came locked to AT&T while I use T-Mobile. After a long 3-way discussion with ST and T-mobile, ST confirmed with the IMEI that the phone was locked and and promised to find a fourth reconditioned phone that would work with my provider. That was on the 14th and I just called (Nov. 16th) as there has been no further communication. I was told that they have no phones to send and will need to outsource. They were very sympathetic but offered no estimate when I would finally have a phone in my hand. Good news is that I think this means I will get a phone that is reconditioned by someone other than the company that did the last 3. Bad news is, I have no idea when that will happen and this is my only phone. Update: It has been 24 hours since the last contact (message below). I sent them the claim information and a copy of the packing slip for the locked phone and have heard nothing since. My understanding of "within 24 hours" and "directly" seems to be different than theirs as I have heard nothing since. Because they said that they had tested the phone in their message, I sent ST a copy of the packing slip showing the phone as Unlocked and containing the IMEI that allows them to identify it as locked. At this point I'm beginning to believe that the reputation management efforts of ST/Allstate is just to give you a 24 hour promise. I'm not sure that another call will accomplish any more than frustration. Update: A couple of days following the contact precipitated by this review, I received a replacement device. The replacement developed issues after a couple of weeks (touchscreen issues again) and was immediately replaced (overnight) with a unit that has (so far) been working flawlessly. read more

But, I was contacted by two different people from SquareTrade. the first call was from a who responded to the callback I requested manager (the second time). who took a step forward in resolving my issue after once again iterating apple said the laptop wasn't water damaged (we had to go over this about 3 times). but by the end of the call I was told I would receive reimbursement up to the claim amount only after I had paid for the repair myself. the second was from their resolution department. who dispatched a check immediately. glad I was able to get this issue resolved. thank you read more

I have been paying $8.99 for almost two years. My advice is to take that $8.99 each month and put it in your bank. After a year of paying in the insurance is a wash, especially after the $150 deductible you will be charged. I started my claim on March 12th, and have had to call in four times (so far), even after filling in the online claim. What happens is after you do the online claim, it takes "24 hours" to review your claim. After a few days go by with no response, you call, and after multiple apologies, they admit there is a problem and will need "24 hours" to resolve it. Hopefully after a few more calls they will take pity and tell you to just take it to any repair place and send them the receipt. Then you will upload the receipt and wait "24 hours" for them to review it. A few days will go by and you will call again, and after multiple apologies, they admit there is a problem and will need "24 hours" to resolve it. Either you keep waiting or start the process again. So to sum up, $8.99 per month, minus $150 deductible, plus whatever you feel your time is worth chasing your reimbursement. I have taken out insurance that specifically covers liability in the event of theft. Now Squaretrade is not liable because it is not the right "form" of theft. The information sheet I received says theft, as does the police report. I feel betrayed and ripped off by Squaretrade. In addition, I was fobbed off with short emails, which I consider to be poor service given the amount that the insurance costs. I would therefore urgently advise against the company. read more
