Fridge was leaking. SSAS tech comes out same day and tells me there's a clog somewhere and he can recharge Freon for $400, which might fix it. But if not, would need to replace $800 part even though fridge only cost $1500. I choose $400 option and it leaks the next day. This weekend my father in law visits, watches a few YouTube videos, and quickly realizes all we need to do is tilt the fridge differently and the water, which was normal condensation just dripping in the wrong place, will go where it's supposed to. Hasn't leaked in a week since we changed the tilt. SSAS tech clearly more interested in charging us for an expensive repair than diagnosing the actual problem. read more

Kitchen Aide fridge stopped working. The owner, Kirk, called over the weekend and arrived when he said he would on Monday. He and his assistant were clearly knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant. And I considered the price reasonable. I don't know why you would go anywhere else. read more

There's two things I want in appliance repair: a quick response to my call and a well done service job. When our ice-maker went on the blink my wife called a different service that never responded. I called Silver Spring and within 24 hours the job was done, the appliance repaired and all was good. In short, you can't ask for more. Blake and Silver Spring Appliance Service are what I remember tradesmen being when I was younger. He was on time, professional, uniformed, takes great pride in what they do and how they treat customers. We have a stacked washer and dryer that was squeezed into a closest witch Blake didn't have access to run any diagnostics. Based on his experience, Blake had the issue diagnosed and parts ordered with a couple of minutes of his arrival. The parts took a couple of days to come in and Blake came back and repaired our washer. They specialize in several brands and when buying new appliances you should choose what they service so if they do need repair you can use Silver Spring Appliance Service. read more

As a landlord of a high rise condo, it is very important to respond quickly to tenant issues. Remember, they can take care of your condo like it's their own...or.......... you get the idea! Refrigerator slowly on the blink and tenant tries to adjust it colder around XMAS week.... so far...okay....but...... eventually she's out a week's groceries.... OUCH.. I called several places and understanding that many are booked solid because of the holidays.....was hoping for a quick response by a company that returnes calls quickly... Only Silver Spring Appliance called back after my trying 3 other places.... Long story short: They went within a 2 hour window... a TWO hour window....not a 4-6 hour window like most others!!!!! Bad motor...... they had to come back the next day....and $240 later (parts/labor total), my tenant's happy and grocery shopping again! A-1 Service Excellent, professional and prompt service! When your washer stops working, you need it fixed correctly as soon as possible. Blake showed up on time (actually a little earlier than the stated 9-10 am window) and immediately began working on the issue. He was knowledgable and also took the time to explain ways to prevent the problem from recurring. It's not even 10 am, and he has finished the job and I am washing a load of clothes. The technician didn't call the primary number indicated to Whirpool, but called the secondary number to announce visit timeframe (12-2). I notified the primary contact about the appointment and he waited for him after taking off at work. At the time the technician got there probably 12, he knocked at the door when the only person in the house was temporary in the basement. He decided to leave. The technician called me back at 12:05 left a message and didn't bother to call the primary contact number, I called him back at 12:10 he refused to go back and just moved the appointment for a week later. He was rude and dismissive when provided with an explanation and said he would charge the visit. We called Whirlpool and they agreed that the technician was having "a bad day". Whirlpool scheduled service with another company right away. I will never use or reccomend this company to anyone, specially being the first experience with them. Extremely unprofessional. read more

My washing machine stopped spinning and would not drain. Ugh! I totally did not want to deal with this but, you can only go so long without washing clothes! After a week of trying not to think about my washing machine, I got on Yelp to read a few reviews for appliance repair. I decided to give Silver Spring Appliance Service a try. I live in Upper NW DC very close to Silver Spring so, I hoped my proximity to the company could get me faster service. I called and got an immediate response. (So far so good!) After a friendly conversation that included a few questions about my issue and the type of machine I have, I was given the option of booking an appointment as early as the next day. So, I booked for the next day. The service person was right on time and only needed 1 minute to diagnose my issue. I was told that because my washer was not electronic (that's code for old--lol), that there was a limited amount of things that could be wrong. The part that I needed replaced was on his truck and my washer could be repaired immediately for $190. Frankly, my first thought was that $190 was a little pricey (I have no idea about the cost of this type of repair) but, the value of having one less thing to worry about made me accept the service with no questions. About 30 minutes later my machine was fixed! It's been about 2 weeks and everything is working fine. I would absolutely recommend and use this company again. read more

What kind of repairman calls to tell you he's running late-- when he's only running towards the later half of when he told you he'd come instead of actually running late? Blake from Silver Spring Appliance! Leaky washer-- he could have soaked us for a ton of money. But instead, prompt, honest, professional and in and out for way less than we expected. Locally owned business, seems to operate by that not often found idea of be HONEST WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS and they will be back. Well, we're sold and next time something stops working, we're calling Silver Spring Appliance Center. Not sure what the total list of appliances they will fix includes-- but any appliance in our house that breaks and we'll be calling them back. Amazing! I left a phone message and he called me back within the hour and fixed my dishwasher over the phone at no charge! When water doesn't go into the dishwasher, sometimes the cause is a flapper on the bottom that's stuck. He said to wiggle it up and down. It worked! read more

Rare is the five-star review given to a service that wasn't even used, but Silver Spring Appliance Service deserves such a review. Kirk himself picked up the phone after several rings and when I told him the problem with my gas oven, he immediately said, "That's not a problem. I guarantee your oven is fine." He literally talked me out of a service call, if not an outright stove replacement, all over the phone, free of charge. November 11, 2014 Silver Spring Appliance Service (SSAS) was recommended to me by Apache Appliance because they do not work on refrigerators. My four-year-old Kenmore refrigerator had stopped running. When I called SSAS, around 10am on November 10, the machine response was that they are accepting appointments for November 11. I left brief information. They returned my call within an hour, and said they would be here between 9 and 11am. The man arrived at 8:55, worked quickly and efficiently, found the defective part and replaced it, checked that the refrigerator was working, and left before 9:15am. He handed me the defective part, an action I appreciated because I have too often had workmen replace good parts (shower heads and car batteries) and take mine to sell to other people. He got everything repaired and working well in less than 20 minutes. Outstanding work. read more

Was a little late for the appointment but IDed the problem quickly on our dish washer and made a quick repair. Gave me straight info about problems with our refridgerator and stove as well (love KitchenAid) and told me what it would cost to fix issues with the ice machine and stove turning off by itself in the middle of a bake. Had a lot of optimism for this one, based on the five-star ratings from all the other reviewers. My experience didn't match. I made an appointment several days in advance. Talked to Kirk, who didn't seem to want to take on the job. The service window was 10-12 on a Friday. Called Kirk at 11 on Friday, to get a sense of the timing. He said it was a busy morning, and he would be there closer to 12 for a repair that would take about an hour. At 12, with no Kirk and no word from Kirk, I called. He said he was on his way from Capitol Hill (to Wheaton) and would be there at 12:30. At 12:30, having sat around for two and a half hours, I left. Kirk called from my front door at 12:49. When I told him I had decided not to wait around any longer, he said he would try calling me to reschedule the following week. Not even an apology. I decided to get someone else to do this fairly simple job, because my time is valuable, and I can't trust this company to show up when it says it will. read more

I left a message for help repairing a dishwasher and was shocked to get a call back 20 minutes later. I was given a window of 11-1. The gentleman showed up at precisely 11 am. He was professional, polite and appropriate. He needed additional parts. Despite being booked solid, he agreed to get the parts and come back at 2 pm. He showed up at precisely 2 pm. He was concerned about making sure he didn't damage my counters or cabinets to fix a faulty install. I was very impressed. I was happy to hear that they are a preferred service provider for all of my appliances. Incredible service, and at a good rate. My garbage disposal had stopped working. First of all, it's hard to find anyone who will work on garbage disposals. Second, the other places I called said they didn't work on the model I had. So when Silver Spring Appliance Service made an appointment for between 10:00am and noon, and actually showed up at 10:00am on the dot, I was pleasantly surprised. They unjammed the disposal, but it turned out it had rusted through and I needed a new one. In less than an hour, the new disposal was installed, and the whole job, new disposal and labor included, was only $200. I will definitely be calling them again. I called when my refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling... they were able to get me in later that same day with Todd, who was very thorough and great! He spent his time doing multiple tests to make sure he fixed the problem completely and didn't miss anything. It was the day before Thanksgiving. We had 3 turkeys to cook for the 32 people who were going to show up the next day. In anticipation of the cooking, Last night I ran the self clean feature for the first time since we bought the range 10 years ago. I woke up to find the touchpad control panel completely dark. I reached Silver Spring Appliance Service right away when I called and the service person was there just when they said they would be, about an hour later.
