    Hanger steak - medium
    Arthur W.

St. Anselm has been on my list for years, but never got around to making it a priority. Finally got a chance to check it out with my family and everyone enjoyed it - we all ordered hanger steaks based on some other Yelp reviews. The steak was tender and flavorful. I usually prefer other cuts, but about an hour after dinner, I felt really good, like I had eaten a nice home cooked meal. So they're doing something right here. The fingerling potatoes were also very good and not greasy. I definitely will be back to try other cuts. The service was okay, not overly friendly, but that's just my preference. I want my host and servers to coddle me; I grew up a soft millennial with a hardened shell from living in NYC so I need TLC whenever I can get it. The ambiance is rustic, earthy feeling.

St Anselm is such a well organized restaurant! Ambiance and the line cooks' amazing work in the kitchen: 10/10. BTG wine choices: 5/10. Steak: 8.5/10 (they grilled a gigantic steak really well with even doneness, but it needed some finishing salt; also I don't like the slab of butter). Side dishes: 10/10. Pricing is reasonable too. Service is casual but very attentive.

Walked in on a Friday night, no reservation. The wait was 45 mins for 2 at the bar, not bad for the top rated steakhouse in Brooklyn. The restaurant is small and narrow. The staff were very friendly. It took a while before the bartender came over to take our order, other than that he was great. For starters, we had the Caesar salad and the steak tartare. The salad was very good, one of the best Caesar's I've ever had. The tartare was underwhelming, not very flavorful. We went with the butchers cut, the Denver cut, and the venison which was not on the menu. The butchers cut which was a hangar steak was my favorite, the meat was very soft/melts in your mouth. The Denver cut was more flavorful and fatty. The venison rack was very tender. All of the meat was cooked to perfection and topped with a garlic butter. I wish they had more side options, we went with the pan fried mashed which was delicious, reminded me of a latke (potato pancake). Beer & wine only, expect to spend about $100pp

Went here for christmas and it was packed! Its a very cute local restaurant with moody lights perfect for a date night or family outing. The meats were amazing, however there is almost an hour or more wait if you get the ribeye. So just be prepared. Some of the hosts force you to get an appetizer. We said no to any appetizers at first, and the guy waiter said you should get an appetizer as it's going to be a long wait. I said it was fine we can just wait, and he persisted so we got it. But I did not really appreciate him forcing us to get something we didnt need. Nonetheless the food is great and juicy and a perfect medium rare on the ribeye but still. Just be prepared for that if that happens to you too.

Best steak and spinach I've ever had. Be sure to make a reservation because it's busy and it's definitely worth the stop. The iceberg and blue salad was very unique and well balanced. Highly recommend if you want something fresh with a touch of hearty. No way you've had a salad like this before. The steak was phenomenal especially paired with the spinach. I don't think I'm being dramatic when I say that's the best steak and spinach I've ever had. It was so juicy, buttery and perfectly cooked. Insane!! The ambiance is very down to earth and not preppy, we sat by the kitchen so it was cool to see the chefs cook. Highly recommend, you have to come here! (Ofc good service also!)

I was contemplating writing a review because I know it negatively impacts business , and if it wasn't my husbands birthday and a regular night out I would probably have just forgotten this joint and kept living . We tried the Cesar, beef tartar, artichokes, Ax and butcher steak, mashed potatoes, fingerling potatoes, long beans and spinach. Absolutely everything was impossible to put in your mouth because of the amount of salt that was added. Not one single dish was edible, to the point that the pudding we got as dessert had salt flakes too lol I wouldn't return. Oh and we sat by the door , the draft was unbearable so we sat from 8:00-10:30 in our jackets

Amazing. All steaks come in perfect. We ordered butcher, flatiron and Denver steaks in medium rare. They cooked them just right. Love the vibes of the restaurant. The quality of meat is amazing without the price tag of famous steak houses. Service was excellent and prompt. Can't wait to go back again. Reserve ahead as it could get busy.

We visited a steakhouse for my stepson's birthday. It was a lovely place, but with limited options. The food was generally salty for me. Younger guests might enjoy the rustic decor and intentionally mismatched dishes. The friendly, casual waitstaff create a welcoming atmosphere, making you feel at home--until you receive the bill.

Get the Ax Handle Ribeye! We'll get to the star of the show but I did start with the tartare and salad which were nice starters. The tartare was fresh, though slightly under seasoned. The salad was a touch too vinegary, I missed asking for the dressing on the side like I usually do, however I still recommend it. The St. Anslem speciality is the Ax Handle Ribeye which is priced based on the weight. It is available during lunch as well, your server will have the weight availability for the day when requested. One negative is that it's not cut to order and the price will vary based on what's available. As far as the ribeye is concerned, it was perfectly charred, and medium rare as requested, with a pat of butter on top as if it needed any other accompaniments. It wasn't needed, but that butter did go well with the side of pan fried mashed potatoes. The Ribeye was definitely a splurge, not an everyday meal. The decor was rustic and the service was very attentive and friendly. They do have brunch specials that are more reasonable which I hope to come back for someday soon.

Came for my husband's birthday dinner and got kitchen counter seats. It was super cool to see the chefs in action, although we were sweating up a storm from the grill! At least we got some entertainment. Our waiter was great. We originally came for the Axe Rib Eye but he steered us away since the smallest size was 61 oz and it was meant for 3-4 people. We ended up getting: -grilled halloumi cheese & summer squash -one butcher's cut -one veal chop -side of pan fried mash potatoes -side of green beans -sticky toffee pudding w/ ice cream for dessert Everything was cooked to perfection. Our waiter recommended the veal chop and said it's similar to rib eye since it has a bone too. Recommended it cooked medium. It was tasty but a bit gamey. The butchers cut was amazing, and honestly the sides and appetizer were too. We can't wait to go back with a bigger group and finally try the Axe Rib Eye! Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a nice date / celebration, and want something different than the usual "stuffy" steakhouse.

Good, casual steakhouse in Williamsburg. Not as stuffy as some other places in the city. Actually quite lively. The space itself is a little rustic and the tables were a little too close together, though. Wine list was ok. We ordered Pinot recommended by the somm/waiter and I would venture to say nearly undrinkable We ordered a lot (I forget most of the apps). For mains and sides, we got: Butcher steak - little chewy but tons of flavor Special dairy cow - very rich. Topped with green tomatoes and cheese. Great, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it Potatoes - eh Creamed spinach - very good Shoshito peppers - very good Fair price. Would go back when in the neighborhood if I'm craving a steak

Came for my son's 21st, he loves trying new low key places. This steak house in Williamsburg is giving casual fine dining with an open kitchen concept, and a wrap around chef counter. It's all wood and exposed brick decor almost like a sorority cabin (wasn't sure of the theme). The staff was pretty attentive, every staff member is your server but not too helpful in recommendations. Appetizers were the sourdough bread with salted butter which was fresh and delicious (we had to ask To warm it up but yes it's an app and yes it's $16) & clams ( a bit sea salty, and also had sour dough bread on it, which I feel the waiter should've mentioned. Drinks consist of beer and wine and spritzers. My son ordered the steak (prime rib) that came out to perfection and I wasn't took hungry I just ordered the giant prawn and we shared the a la cart sides (long long string beans, spinach and pan fried mashed potatoes) all very tasty and unique. Dessert selection was limited so we stuck with the vanilla ice cream and espresso.

We ordered the hanger steak, potatoes, artichokes, and Caesar salad. The steak cooked medium rare was incredible, so much so i had forgotten to take a photo (or was it because i had two Baby Kitten beers with dinner ). Someone on Reddit mentioned they are heavy on the salt on the steak and that would be my only critique. Girl pictured is taken btw
