These have become condos, so each owner puts a different level of care into their property and prices are set according to their sense of value - so more $$ isn't necessarily a better cottage. The property manager is attentive and friendly. The ocean is right there. But it is a steep walk down the dunes. It's also a public beach. I always visit on the off season and have found the beach to be nearly deserted, even in mid June. It is especially lovely in the early morning. It's about a 3/4 mile bike ride to the cape cod rail trail, on the paved road which has little shoulder but in the off season anyway the drivers are safe and respectful. The road riding around the ponds is excellent -rolling hills, quiet roads. It's also only about a 10 minute walk to the Marconi site and cedar trail boardwalk. Go down lacount hollow towards rte 6 and turn down the sand road called "wireless". The ponds of wellfleet are a delight- clear and clean and again nearly deserted in mid June. The water is chilly though! I've always stayed in the cabin called surf side. It is well furnished and comfortable. Lots of storage, nice kitchen even a dishwasher! The stairs to the two upstairs bedrooms are VERY steep and precarious. My 70 old mother can just do them. The bathroom is modern and clean, shower only - with a skylight in it! The bath is right off the kitchen which can be a bit awkward-the owners have provided air freshener! On that topic - these owners provide much more than you would expect - Tupperware, bags and wraps, dish soap, all manner of dishes and cooking gear. The group of condos also has a laundry facility - $2.00 to wash and the same to dry. You need quarters. The town of wellfleet has ample dining options. The harbor beaches are nice for long walks and sea shell collection. Bugs are dismal everywhere in wellfleet, especially at surfside. Bring your preferred bug prevention and keep the screen door closed.

There are multiple different seating options, everything from an outdoor patio to high top bar seats, tables, and the indoor booth seating which is what we selected. The dining room is comfortable, and with open windows it provided a nice breath of fresh air. We started with the seafood sampler, a wonderful combination of fresh and delicious shellfish (clams, oysters, shrimp and a lobster tail). We then split appetizers instead of entrees, having the tuna tartare and the Chatham mussels, both of which were excellent. There was some minor room for improvement - after we were done with our seafood sampler, we sat for about 10 minutes while our server Danielle seemed to be in an enthusiastic conversation with Caroline out in front of the restaurant. It provided for some interesting dinner theater, but with so many other employees standing around, it probably would have been an ideal opportunity for somebody else to chip in and take over. Also, the mussels came in a wonderful wine / garlic sauce - some bread would have been a thoughtful addition to soak up that wonderful broth. Fortunately the quality of the food and the vibe of the restaurant more than compensated for a couple of service issues - we visited in late May, so hopefully by the time this restaurant hits the busy season, they'll have the issues worked out. For dinner I had the scallop dish with a seafood demi glacé and mushrooms. It was very rich with umami and paired well with the sweetness of the scallops. My husband had the grilled swordfish which was good, but not very special. The piece of fish was a little thin and slightly overcooked. The buttery caper sauce was good . Our lemon meringue tart was tasty, but the tart crust was tough and nearly impossible to cut through. Overall it was good, but not great. It was also very expensive. My dish with 4 scallops was nearly $50. The total with our food and just two glasses of wine plus tip was nearly $200 which is quite steep, even for the Cape. If we were to return next year I think we're more likely to come for a lunch.

The on-site breakfast restaurant called Harrigan's Café was an added bonus. Their meals were delicious. Every employee we encountered went out of their way to make us feel welcome. This was a great find, and we are already looking forward to going back again next year.

Our room included 2 big beds and was well set up. I happen to bring my own pillow on my stay away because it's much comfier while sleeping. I use the hotel pillow when just relaxing, and it's comfy for that purpose. Also worth mentioning the A/C in the room works very well, sometimes too well as it can get cold, so adjusting the temperature is a big key to making the room comfortable. The hotel provides an indoor and outdoor pool for anyone to enjoy from 8am to 8pm. It's very fortunate to find out that this hotel provides Harrigan's Cafe for breakfast (see my review), which is a huge plus for anyone staying at the motel and lodge. Definitely put Wellfleet Motel & Lodge on the list to stay at.

I could feel water going to the left and right under my feet. I was wondering if water would not burst through the ceiling at some point. The walls were creepy. No switch off for the lights. We had to remove the bulb to sleep. Door could not lock properly. However, next day met a nice lady at the counter and she took care of getting us a another room. We had however to find a towel to use as curtain as the window in the shower had no curtain and there were people parking their cars outside.
