I've been here before but I didn't remember if my food was good or bad so I decided to try them again. I will say that I'm not sure why I didn't remember because my food was good. I got myself a brown stew chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. The cabbage was really good, and so was my coco bread. It's a super small place but they are churning out good food. The food is still delicious and the service is always warm and welcoming. I tried the oxtail plate last Friday and they were so flavorful. I ended up coming back the next day for the patty special with limeade. My son loves their brown stew chicken plate & my hubby likes the jerk chicken with extra spicy sauce added. When I don't do oxtail, I usually rotate between the jerk and brown stew. I will be back soon on a Saturday to try the jerk pork. Earlier this week I went to St. Bess Finest Cuisine. It was close to 1 and there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. It's a tiny place with only 2 tables, but it's fine because we got ours to go and just went back to the house as it's not far. Just from looking at their menu, which I thought was neat seeing it's a chalkboard menu, they have a variety of dishes to choose from. They also have lunch specials for certain items. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas, and it was accompanied by cabbage and plantain. I also got curry goat gravy on my rice and some jerk sauce for my chicken. I ordered the medium which was $8 and change. I would say that's fairly reasonable and along the lines of what other Jamaican restaurants charge. I will say I'm a bit bias when it comes to eating other Jamaican food as my mom is Jamaican and I love her food lol. The chicken did have a nice smoke to it which is nice and I could tell it was grilled. I know some places tend to bake there's so I enjoyed the smokiness of the chicken. Maybe it's me and what I'm use to, but I feel it could have had a bit more jerk seasoning and spices for more flavor. I did enjoy the rice though. I haven't found many Jamaican restaurants where I care for the rice, but I enjoyed the rice and peas along with the curry goat gravy. I was a bit disappointed that I only got 1 plantain though. I don't know if maybe they were low on plantain or if it was due to the fact that it was a medium plate so it may only come with one. All in all, the food was okay. The place is nice and clean, but small. There are a lot of choices to choose from, but note some items are only served on certain days of the week or specifically on the weekends. I will say I'm interested in trying the oxtails because I love oxtails so maybe next go around I'll try those. read more

I'm torn because I ordered the jerk chicken and it was not spicy/ heat whatsoever. And I'm sensitive when it comes to spicy foods. The jerk chicken was a dry rub application. Golden Krust jerk chicken has more and better flavor than theirs. Cabbage- slapping!!! Delicious, fresh, not over cooked. Rice & peas- good. Can't say I've had worst or better. Just rice & peas. After a quick stop in ATL, I wanted something hot to-go. After reading countless reviews at other places, I chose St. Bess. It's located in the same lot as a gas station. Upon walking in, a very small, neat and clean place. They also have a 100 A rating. The right side of the establishment has the entire menu including specials on a chalk wall and there are a couple of tables with chairs, if you choose to dine in. The staff was very pleasant and prompt. I ordered the curry chicken lunch plate, which came with rice & peas, cabbage and one plantain. I also oredered one medium spice beef patty and a chicken patty. Spent just about $14 total. I am from NYC and if you know anything about NYC, there are West Indian places on every block, whether Jamaican, Trini, Haitian...you name it! So I am very particular about my Jamaican food. The curry chicken plate was nice and hot once I started to dig in. The flavor was good but I felt like it was missing something. I just couldn't put my finger on it. The patty's were good too. Brown Stewed Chicken Meal Plantains Coco Bread Based off of the reviews alone I decided to give this place a try. Did not disappoint. I absolutely hate when my food leaks all inside of the bag. My food not only stayed inside the container, the restaurant made certain to staple my bag multiple times to ensure my food was not tampered with as I ordered through door dash. They also provided me with plastic ware and mad napkins!! I dislike when I only receive one or two napkins with a meal. I personally will use 4 or 5 napkins alone for just a sandwich. They sent like 10. It also arrived closer to 20 minutes earlier than the estimated time given. Now to talk about the food itself, so good! The coco bread was warm and soft. The plantains were plump and large pieces. Most places only provide you with 2-3 smaller chunks, Bess' gives 5 extra large pieces. I like my food extra wet with the gravy from the stewed chicken and they were spot on. I had already begun to eat my food before I decided to take the picture, but there was so much chicken!
