I was recently advised that I would have to leave my healthcare practice by March 2027 due to…read morecurrent staffing shortage and how hard it has been over the years to find and hire someone. I saw on Nextdoor a referral to a new healthcare practice called Juniper. It is only for seniors over 65 with medical coverage from Medicare and Medicare Supplimental plans. . They apparently don't take private pay, Medicare Advantage (so few people take that any way) or Medicaid. This set up was perfect with me and they are taking new patients. When you call to enroll it is followed up by a telephone consult that goes into great detail about the practice and it really worked for me. I like the fact that they did this pre-scanning so they didn't have to waste people's time. After that call, I received a prompt appointment and was able to fill out the enrollment form online. As usual with online applications, and often the ones on paper. There just isn't enough room to put down the information you need such as all your doctors, prescriptions and prior medical treatments. So after I I filled out my online application, I took information directly to their office that had all of that stuff so that I didn't have to waste time filling in all the details. I was hoping that they would be able to enter all of that information into their system before my first appointment. It had all been entered! So I just went to my first appointment yesterday with Kelly Morales, a PA (Physician Assistant) who was just wonderful. In addition, I did bring a paper copy of the additional information and again she was able to ask lots of questions directly from that detail. Being obsessive, I also took copies of my latest blood test, bone density test, my last colonoscopy and mammogram results. Again, she was just able to read down all of this information and ask questions. I felt it very important that I had that since I was changing a medical practice which had for 10 years worth of information. She has all of that detail that was relevant to now and the past history. She noted that most people who come in, their answers to doctors, medical procedures, and the prescriptions often end up with answers of " I don't know" which to me is very frightening. It sort of wastes that initial visit time. So we had a very effective first appointment. She was very thorough and I never for one moment did I feel that I was being rushed, which is actually my usual experience with physicians assistance, which is why I like them so much. I know some people are really wary of having a PA as your primary care person, but there is a doctor who is available for the more complicated thing. Please look up what the education requirements are for a PA. You will probably be stunned to find out how extensive their education and hands on experience needs to be before they get licensed. I think that should dissuade anyone from being worried about being treated by them.
