We recently visited and were not happy with our service. While we waited to be seated and were sitting with our children we were asked to give up the chairs that we were waiting on so that they could make up a table. Finally when we got to our table we were waiting there for menus and we also never got cups for water until we asked. Naturally, the kids dropped a few things and we were never asked if we wanted a refill or a replacement for those items. Today I stopped by Stacked hoping to see if anything has changed since I came in last. When i got there there was a line out the door. I figured if there was a line they must still be doing pretty good. I went to the counter and gave the my name (party of 2). I was told it would a 15 to 20 minute wait (about 5 names) which i thought was fine. I waited and waited. After about 30 minutes i had scene at least 4 tables being cleared. A little longer than expected but ok I should get seated soon. After 15 more minutes 3 more tables had been cleared but we still were not being seated yet. I went to the counter to find what was going on and was told there were still 2 more groups in front of me and it might be 15 to 20 more minutes...... I could see his list right in front of him and the names of people that came in after me (with larger groups) being scratched off and seated first. THE best breakfast dance in Chicagoland. Well worth any wait you must endure. The management and operations crew is top notch. Tough to get a seat but they are all over the turnover process. Staff, from manager, to waitstaff, to bussers and cooks make YOU the priority in their quest for perfection. Add those compliments to the fact that the basic notion is, they are a diner. There is no cheapness or cut corners usually part of the average pancake house. They do it right! Just walking in, you feel the pride they take in being top dog. Not just the quality food and ingredients...but the napkins, jellies, and silver wear aren't the cheapest restaurant depot products that they can get. I applaud the owner(s) for taking pride in doing what they do, at the best level they can offer. I will always go out of the way to stop in for a Denver omelet and make sure my friends know the pancakes are well worth the price of admission. read more

Ok today was my first, of many, visits to stacked! It was such a great breakfast! Ok first of all, it's adorable inside! It is very trendy and upbeat. I've worked in plenty of restaurants, since I am in the service industry, so I always notice the employees and their systems. Let me start by I saying, I think it was the 2 owners (simply because there was a picture of them by the register) were in, aware, and working the whole time I was there. That does not happen as much as it should but I thought that was a major plus. Next, the male owner (I think) was standing in a aisle and saw a little 4ish yr old girl walking to the bathroom unattended, he noticed and trailed to make sure she made it safely. (I'm not gonna mention the parent that lets a 4yr old walk to the bathroom unattended especially when the bathroom is by the door: I'll keep that opinion to myself : cough cough::) anyways I thought that was awesome that he watched over her. And the menu.. What a nice change instead of the regular pancakes, waffles, omelette choices. I got the banana bread French toast and wow that was amazing! Mom got the strawberry cheesecake pancakes and I think the name says it all! And bro got the florentine eggs Benedict which looked awesome! And he said were the best he ever had, and that is the only thing he ever orders! Anyways I will Definately be returning and spreading the word of how awesome this place was! Their red velvet pancakes are to die for!!!! 5 huge pancakes.... I couldn't even get through half of it. My husband also had the tommy stack it up and he loved it... Mind you he's hard to please, so that says a lot! Aside for the food though, the service is great. I would give them a zero if I could.Customer service is horrible. The host sat us to the table and then realized that we were missing the fourth person in our party(she was parking the car) so he told us we couldn't be seated until she came in and asked us to get up! I explained that the fourth person was parking and would come right in, he told me when she came in he would treat her like a separate party and would not ALLOW her to sit with us. Unbelievable. My husband and I have been here a number of times and every time I'm never satisfied. I'm not picky, I just need flavor. I can cook boring food at home. If I'm paying for food I want a mini party in my mouth. We visited yesterday which was Monday and a holiday on top of that. We arrived around 1 and the wait was 30 minutes which wasn't bad for the amount of people waiting. It was pretty packed. We've been here on the weekends and they are always insanely packed as well. That's a great thing when you're considering a restaurant. You would assume that the food is great, right. Not mine. I ordered the stuffed French toast. I wanted to try something different. The dish looked better than it tasted. It lacked flavor. The presentation took my breath away and I was so excited to dig in but it was just OKAY. Many people have posted pics but the inside has some type of banana cream sauce and it had absolutely no flavor. I was disappointed. My husband had the corn beef hash skillet and he LOVED it. I had a taste and it was pretty tasty considering I don't even like corn beef hash. I'm going to give STACKED one more try. read more

Definitely coming back! This place may have a wait - we were here for breakfast and by 915am, there was a crowd waiting to be seated. I loved my cappuccino (husband had the coffee, served black). We ordered the chorizo skillet (loved the chips), Greek bread (omg this was a revelation for us), banana bread french toast (genius) and a side of the pumpkin pancakes (wow). I frequently go to Stacks because of the food and excellent service. One of my most awesome experiences is meeting new people and families. As I was eating with a my Aunt after leaving the hospital where she had chemotherapy one of Stacks customers as they were leaving stop to ask how was our day and did we enjoy our meals. We told them it was awesome. As we finished our meal and started to pay our bill, the owner told us that the family we were talking too paid our bill in full because we were so kind in talking to them. God gave us a blessing that day. There food is awesome even though the wait maybe 30 minutes at times but worth every minute. I have introduced Stacks to all my families. read more

Finally a good breakfast and lunch spot in Oak Lawn! Service is good, food is good, and atmosphere is good. They get super busy so you sometimes feel a little stressy with all the chaos when you walk in, but the staff goes above and beyond to get you seated and taken care of right away. I also order lunch for pick up from here sometimes and everything is always delicious and packaged great. Maybe in the summer they'll add some outdoor seating? Gets a bit stuffy inside. I've been here twice now, and both times I was very impressed by their food and service. I was there both times during the week at prime breakfast time (between 9-10am). The first time I only had to wait about 10 min. The second time, about 25 minutes. I was ok with the wait because the staff was very on top of getting everyone seated in an orderly fashion. It's not their fault they are so crowded, so they make do with the little space they have very efficiently. With that said, not once did I feel rushed by our waitress. I had the portobello Benedict the first time, and the savory egg crepes the second time. Both delish. (Although, make sure you definitely like mushrooms before ordering that particular Benedict). The menu is full of sweet and savory options, and the price is average for breakfast for two. I'm not sure if I would venture their on the weekend, because I'm sure it's packed with a long wait, but a great place to go during the week when I'm in the area. read more

We visited Stacked on 53rd/95th in Oak Lawn. My fiance' had breakfast and I had a Stacked salad, we each had a cup of coffee. The bill with the infamous Cook County tax(es) was $31.44. For the length of wait which totaled about 55 minutes from when we came in got seated and then waited for about 35 minutes for our order to come I would say this place is not worth tourist money. The waitress when we did get seated approached our table but did not look at us, offer a friendly greet/hello, she just merely asked if we were ready. She over-filled the water glasses where they were spilling. We got coffee which tasted burnt. The salad was too big but it was ok. The breakfast part saw the pancakes too thick and not fully cooked. The sausages are too big, the bacon appeared to have been reheated in a micro. The toast was ok. For $11.44 in groceries at the Jewel I could get breakfast for a week for what we spent at Stacked on 53rd/95th in Oak Lawn. When we went to the counter to pay the cashier (owner I came to learn) did not ask us how our meal was. She just took our money, looked away here and there and we just left. My recommendation is to avoid the place. It's too expensive, too small an environment, too noisy and they excuse they're absence of friendliness with something to do with being busy. By the way, we got there at 12:30 PM and by the time we got seated and got our over-priced meal it was already one hour before their closing time of 3:00 PM. Not worth it. read more

Stacked is a great breakfast place - nice atmosphere, great service and good food. My husband and I split the Ole Skillet and the Red Velvet Pancakes. My husband loved the skillet. I thought it was good and gave points for the avocado, but thought that the chilis could have been diced rather than sliced and that the tortilla chips were a bit stale. That was balanced by the perfect wheat toast. The Red Velvet pancakes were extremely dessert like, including the cream cheese sauce(really was very frosting like). My daughter opted for a lunch option- the cream of chicken soup was fabulous and served in a generous sized bowl, and she really liked her patty melt. My husband thought the cold slaw that was served with her entree was fabulous. Overall, a great option for breakfast or lunch. read more

The food is great but unless you want to spend half your day standing uncomfortably waiting for a table watching people who came in after you get seated I'd stay away. If that's your thing though, this place is for you. Especially if you enjoy standing in a cramped area with no seating while the hosts make no effort to help make your experience more tolerable. The two times I was able to be seated in a reasonable amount of time the food was outstanding, but it was uncomfortable and I felt rushed. The last 4 or 5 times I've gone my party ended up giving up and going elsewhere. Honestly, I keep trying to give these people my money, but apparently as long as they're doing good business it doesn't seem like they care about the individual customer. The food was amazing! My husband had a steak skillet which was delicious. My son had a short stack of pancakes which were light, fluffy and delicious. Although 3 full sized pancakes were a bit much for a four year old he was excited to take home left overs. I had the red velvet french toast which was really amazing. A red velvet roulade with cream cheese filling dipped in egg and fried...how could you go wrong?! The only bad thing was that it was a smaller place for the amount of business it seems to be attracting. It was a bit of a wait for a table (not longer than ten or fifteen minutes though and well worth the wait). The manager or owner, I'm not sure who he was but he was running around trying to take care of everything. Led us to our table and then rushed off before we were even seated. I actually felt a little bad for him but the rest of the staff seemed very relaxed and efficient so I don't think he needed to be running around like that. My favorite breakfast place! The food is amazing; they cook to order and use super fresh ingredients. You get large portions for a reasonable price. I can make 2 to 3 meals out of one breakfast most of the time. The staff is really friendly and the owners are almost always present. They take great care of us when we are there and even when we order for pick up. The ONLY reason I only gave 4 stars was the lack of waiting room. If you have to wait, you kind of stand on top of people with very minimal space. It is worth it though. read more

Although I intended to go to Stax on Taylor, I ended up here. Clearly everything happens for a reason because the food was quite tasty. I enjoyed a skillet with chorizo, hot peppers and a side of pancakes and they were not only tasty but very filling. We went on a Saturday afternoon and although the place was packed the service was fast and friendly. You can always tell when the owners are present but at Stacked they weren't just present they were working to ensure that the customers were pleased. Mission Accomplished. The menu was very appetizing and had a variety of dishes that I would like to try. The only down side is that they are not open for dinner, strictly breakfast and lunch.
