At lunchtime, the parking lot is like a beehive with cars and trucks of people working in the area pulling in and back out with freshly made sandwiches, salads (not green salads, but the kind made with real mayonnaise), and those huge dill pickles that used to stand around in barrels at old time delis. There are individual servings of desserts in a refrigerator, a smattering of fresh produce, fresh breads, snacks, beverages (including beer and wine, and there is even a tiny wine alcove), ice cream, birthday candles and other things you might need once in a while but can't seem to lay your hands on. In the mornings, there are house-made breakfast sandwiches in a warmer so people can grab and go. The people work hard and are kind and friendly. We stopped in on Memorial Day - along with everyone else in the area - to pick up potato salad, seafood salad, and macaroni salad, and they were prepared! It was all hands on deck at the deli, shelves were stocked, and there were extra checkout clerks. Whether it's at the unofficial kickoff to summer or on snowy day, the fine folks at Rum Brook Market are there to make your day just that much more satisfying.

That has worked quite well and avoids rude people hijacking tables the entire day for a few people as it occurs in the rest of the resort. Service is quick and the food is more varied and way better than the cafeterias. As well, the enormous bar lends a fun ambiance to the place with lively conversations throughout the day. Goosefeathers also has a gigantic outdoor area with full view of the slopes. Only drawback to the place is the schedule. It closes too early, usually at the end of the ski day. I had their Gorgonzola salad with salmon on top and washed it down with their Rags to Riches IPA. Our entire party was quite pleased with the evening. Our only lack of satisfaction was in the lack of the giant pretzels they used to have. No more. Instead, they have locally made ale pretzels which although healthier, are almost impassable with a hard texture that is unpretzel-like. I encourage the Flying Goose to bring back their old-style pretzels or redo the ale pretzel recipe from scratch. Great evening.
