What a find! Dear Hubby had the sharp eyes to notice their little sign while we were having lunch next door and suggested we check it out. Considering that chocolate is not a major food group for him, that was a lovely gesture on his part! This tiny shop is located inside the ground level of an old water tower. The character of the tower's history surrounds you as you walk in the door. The kind woman minding the shop greeted us with a sample truffle. Creamy, flavor-packed, and so yummy! We ended up with an assortment package to bring home, including lavender, sea salt caramel, and two other flavors. Can't wait to slowly savor them over time. These are not to be rushed. I felt enchanted with the experience of stepping back in time into that water tower space for a chocolate tasting and chat with its champion. Fortunately, we had a cooler in the car so that it wouldn't melt on a hot day. It made it home intact!

We saw a Stafford's advertisement in one of the local magazines that are at almost every winery along Foxen and decided to pay them a visit when stopping off in Los Olivos. Located right off of the main street on San Marcos we wandered in to an empty little chocolate shop, completely empty! I asked myself how does one make a purchase here or who do we take the goodies to, to pay for them? Then I spotted an ipad and realized someone must work inside of here. Low and behold a couple minutes later in walked an employee who had been on break and trustingly left the door to the chocolate shop unlocked. He wasn't the most friendly or helpful and perhaps should have locked the door to completely enjoy his break before heading back and seeming a bit irritated by us. We browsed their selection and ended up purchasing their milk and dark mixed box of sea salt caramels and two other chocolate selections. The price is a little bit more than your average chocolate shop, but makes sense for the area. I had 3 pieces while tasting at Blair Fox and a couple more later in the evening. Quite tasty I must say and good little sweet treat while tasting in the area.

Such a CUTE place. As it is I love Los Olivos for its small town feel and cute wine tasting rooms... and the kids love it for this place! They have a homemade marshmallow with peanuts butter covered in chocolates with nuts in top on a type of popsicle stick... sounds odd but I promise it is delicious! Huge plus that the girl working was a sweetheart. We will definitely be back next time we're in town.

Probably the best box of chocolates that are not "Rogers' Chocolates" of Canada. But how often does one get to go to Canada, right? I found chewy chocolate caramels, marshmallow chocolates, gourmet peanut butter chocolate, and wine bordeaux chocolates, all of a high order. And to think what I haven't tried so far! As if there weren't enough attractions in the quaint wine country of Los Olivos already ("Los Olivos Cafe," cupcakes at "Saarloos," tri-tip sandwiches at the country mart, great atmosphere at "Corner Coffee"), the windmill house of "Stafford's" is just another essential stop you have to make in-between wine tasting. Twenty dollar box of chocolates? Why would that be a regret if they're the best I've found in California? It's also darling just to step in there. High level air conditioning, too. #goingfat

The inside of the "ooey gooey". Stellar.

I tried both, and then also sampled some savory options as that's what I was looking for. My favorite local oil was the savory garlic olive oil and for the imported option, the truffle oil was amazing. I did not like the sundried tomato olive oil and was surprised to read that canola oil and sunflower oil were ingredients. While tasting, my boyfriend and I noticed they offered ice cream topped with oils and vinegar. Intrigued, we ordered the chocolate ice cream with blood orange oil and chocolate balsamic. We hadn't really liked the blood orange oil with bread, but wow was it an amazing combo with ice cream! Overall, a great spot in Los Olivos that does not involve wine drinking and we appreciate that it was dog friendly.

The restaurant decor is nice, though nothing special, with a sizeable patio for outdoor dining. We started with a couple of local wines by the glass. The wine list here is heavily biased towards local wines as one would expect from a wine country restaurant. Kudos for the local focus! The menu here is wine country, farm-to-table and the restaurant even has their own organic farm a short distance away where they source ingredients. For dinner we started with the beet salad special served over a citrus yogurt. For main courses we had the grilled rack of lamb and a quinoa bowl with salmon. Every dish was expertly prepared and delicious. The fruits and veggies were exceptionally fresh being sourced directly. David was our server and coincidentally was our server at a wine tasting earlier in the day. His service and that from the supporting team were professional and friendly. I give this restaurant my highest recommendation!

Food is farm to table with a seafood focus. We shared a few items to get a sampling of the menu. Everything came out quite quickly. Presentation was beautiful and everything was delicious. The summer squash and roasted oysters were the favorites. The Chicken sandwich (happy hour menu) was delicious however once you picked it up could not put down due to the juices from the garnishes flooding the plate, so if it was put down the bread would have become a soggy mess. Luckily it was so delicious that eating it quickly would have happened anyways. Decor is cute, love the green accents in the walls and furnishings. It's a stylish yet relaxed establishment. Happy hour is 3-5 and all night Thursday. Located in the cute downtown area of Los Olivos making for a nice walk around before or after dining here.

Also had the sticky toffee date cake for dessert. We walked here from our hotel (Mattei's) less than 5 min. We enjoyed our food but really loved it last time. We stuck to most fish apps and entrees last time. Will return next visit.

The vibe was pleasant and a little bit fancy. No lowly brunch menu here--we had raw fish, medium rare steak, and red wine. I suppose not everyone wants all that before dinner. Nella is an attractive restaurant at the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn. The dining room looked charming, but we opted to sit on the patio, which was comfortable and breezy. Service was great, attentive and prompt. We were in and out in an hour, as planned, but we could've lingered longer. The food was delicious, starting with the $9 bread and butter--French baguette with a bright yellow block of salted Bordier butter. The salmon crudo was fresh and silky, finished with Fresno chile, citrus, passion fruit, avocdao mousse, calamansi vinegar, and fresh basil. My favorite dish, though, was the spring salad, a vibrant assembly of Tutti Frutti Farms sugar snap peas, fava beans, kumquats, calamansi pickled red onions, arugula, pecorino, and rosé vinaigrette. I don't typically go for salads without meat, but this one was superb. For our entrées, we shared a Margherita pinsa and the filet mignon. The pinsa was an airy flatbread, topped with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, basil, and sea salt. The prime cut filet was flavorful and satisfying, cooked a tender medium rare and served with yu choy and green peppercorn sauce. We ordered two Italian reds by the glass, which went well with everything, but especially with the steak. The Grosjean Vallee d'Aoste, a Gamay , and the Clos Venturi Vin de Corse "1769," a Sangiovese Sciaccarellu blend. I'd been to SY Kitchen once before and plan to go to whatever restaurant the group is about to open up in Montecito. These people obviously know what they're doing. We had a lovely lunch at Nella Kitchen & Bar and would recommend it to anyone visiting Los Olivos.

The inn leans into the old west aesthetic, but the tavern is just elegant and attractive, with leather furniture, a high vaulted ceiling, and a lot of windows. It was pleasantly bustling on a Friday night, with what seemed like a mix of hotel guests and other visitors. Los Olivos has a population that hovers around 1,000, so this restaurant, like the stagecoach stop, is there to serve travelers. Accordingly, service was first class. There was a full bar with elaborate cocktails and plenty of wine from the area. We ordered two rounds of cocktails, as we planned to drink wine all weekend, and they were all very good. The Vaquero Campfire was a refreshing mezcal drink with pink peppercorn, honey, and charred grapefruit. The Cigars & Horses was a boozy mix of bourbon, yellow chartreuse, and smoked cinnamon. Los Rancheros Vistadores was a pleasantly bitter tequila cocktail, with reposado, amaro, Aperol, and orange olive oil. And the Pinochle Punch was a smooth blend of milk-clarified rye, cognac, and orange. We ordered wines by the glass to go with our entrees, and these were both lovely, too. The Sandlands Lodi Red Table Wine and the Racines Mattei's Cuvée, a Chardonnay that must have some connection to Mattei's Tavern. The food was delicious. We started with a half dozen oysters with mignonette and lemon and Gin's tuna carpaccio, topped with scallion, radish, ginger dressing, and cold-pressed California olive oil. Then we had Mattei's house focaccia, served with cultured butter and herb oil, and the country pâté, with cherry, tarragon, and sourdough. The entrées were both excellent. The Channel Islands rockfish was beautifully cooked, served in a vibrant tomatillo sauce with hoja santa, with sides of roti, grilled avocado, and grilled lime. The Colorado lamb was tender and juicy with a nice spiced crust. It came with couscous, vadouvan, mint yogurt, onion, and dates. For dessert, we shared the affogato: vanilla ice cream, Handlebar espresso. Hard to think of a better way to wind down a big meal. We charged dinner to the room and got $100 through a hotel promotion. This covered some of our drinks. The Tavern is not a cheap restaurant, but it is a great one, well worth checking out on your visit to Los Olivos.

We had specifically chosen this restaurant because we were traveling with our dog and understood that their outdoor seating area was dog-friendly. We were told that the outdoor patio was closed for a private event. Since we had made our reservation more than a week in advance, it would have been helpful if the restaurant had notified us ahead of time so we could have made other arrangements. Unfortunately, we ended up having to leave our dog back at the hotel. To their credit, the hostess did her best to accommodate us and found us a table in the bar area near the fireplace. However, the location wasn't ideal for an anniversary dinner. Guests frequently walked and stood in front of the fireplace directly in front of our table, and at one point other patrons even sat down at our table, making what was supposed to be a romantic evening feel awkward and disrupted. The food itself was excellent, and we genuinely enjoyed our meal. Had it not been for the reservation mix-up and the restaurant's lack of proactive communication regarding the patio closure, this would likely have been a much higher-rated experience. Unfortunately, the service and overall experience fell short of what we expected for such a special occasion.
