I was literally going to walk past this candy store and not go in but something told me to go in and check it out and I am so glad I did. I was in here on a Friday a little after 6pm and no one was in here. I asked one of the young women working here what time they closed and she told me 6:30pm. I then went to check out their back area and oh my they had quite an assortment of Dutch licorice, I was in heaven! I like salty licorice, less sweet and more salty with a good licorice bite and also found one of the brands I really like. I also tried another I did know, just to see what it was like. The brand I am used to I am saving for later as I know what it tastes like. The new brand I got is a bit more sweet than I like but I still like it and it was good I tried it. This is a great shop if youre looking for Dutch style licorice. They also have plenty of award winning chocolates too and a lot of people showed up after I entered and all ordering their chocolates. My family and I stopped into this cute like chocolate store while spending the weekend in Solvang. It was Viking themed which we loved and while we didn't buy any actual chocolate - we still pursued and bought some chewy candy. Their chocolate display case looked so good - they also offer ice cream and milk shakes! They had a separate ice cream bar area which I thought was super cute. They had a whole wall of gummy candy that I had never seen or heard of before! I was tempted to buy some and have a little taste test. The inside was decent sized, but still inviting, clean and organized! Staff were also very nice and the register and even greeted us when we arrived. They have a large variety of chocolate delights on one side of the store nicely displayed and an inviting Ice Cream Parlour on the other, very charming. I'm not at all a chocolate connoisseur and I don't know what the best term would be to call the young lady that was working here who helped us...the Chocolatier?? I'm not sure but it sounds close. She knew exactly which chocolates to offer us based on our sweet tooth, which are creamer or richer in flavor. On top of her chocolate knowledge, she was super sweet and patient. We stopped into Ineborg's Danish Chocolates during our anniversary trip to Solvang, and it ended up being one of the sweetest parts of our weekend. The milk chocolate peanut butter cup was good. The chocolate wasn't as rich, but the peanut butter filling was nice. The milk chocolate rocky road bark was so good. Whether you are addicted to sweet treats or simply indulge on special occasions; the city of Solvang is the place to satisfy your sweet tooth especially in the vein of Danish/European goodies. The storybook city is dripping with candy, fudge, ice cream and pastry shops: Willy Wonka would be proud! One of these many options comes in the form of Ingeborg's Danish Chocolates located in the center tourist hub of Solvang with easy access on foot where ever you are in the village at any given time. Ingeborg's is not short on roots or tradition; dating back to founder Ingeborg Larsen who worked as a chocolate dipper in her home country of Denmark at one of their biggest chocolate factories before opening her own chocolate boutique in Copenhagen. Good lady Ingeborg decided to try her hand at the American dream and brought her sister and chocolate recipes with her opening a chocolate factory. It is these same recipes that Kim and Carl still use when making candy in the back of this Solvang candy staple since the 1960s. It was here that my boyfriend and I ventured when visiting Solvang for our Christmas rendezvous during Solvang's Julefest. Ingeborg's is a medium-sized shop with a small ice cream counter, chocolate/candy counter boasting truffles, chocolate covered pretzels, marzipan, bon bons, etc (all made on the premises!) and a store with traditional chocolates, candies, gifts and specialized Danish/European candy options! Although this sounds fantastic on paper and I hate to be the Negative Nancy; Ingeborg's is simply 'average' and missing the 'oomph' and magic that it has the potential to carry that one can find even at mall candy stores like Lolli and Pops and my favorite chocolatier: Laderach Chocolatier Suisse. There isn't a problem markedly with Ingeborg's but it was simply missing something. There was also a small bone to pick with customer service. One of best characteristics of Solvang is the extremely welcoming nature of ALL the businesses and associates (very Scandinavian of them!) ESPECIALLY during Julefest; as it is the climax of their tourist season. All business associates are super friendly, greet with a "Merry Christmas" and all-around help build a glittery and memorable experience. This was absent at Ingeborg's as we were not welcomed when stepping foot into the shop (and the associate was available) and were met with blank stares and no conversation when making purchases from the candy counter. This is NO way to sell a business especially during Julefest. For our treats, I chose a 16-count box of traditional fruit-shaped marzipan from the store (being Hungarian, I am OBSESSED with marzipan) for $16.99 while my boyfriend picked a dark chocolate-covered pretzel from the chocolate candy counter. My marzipan is perfect in flavor and texture so Ingeborg's definitely excels at marzipan-making but my boyfriend, who loves dark chocolate, didn't quite jive with the dark chocolate covered pretzel saying it was a bit too bitter and actually would have been better in milk chocolate. He still ate it so don't worry, Ingeborg's - the pretzel wasn't wasted! It just sadly wasn't the best chocolate treat gracing his taste buds. A bonus of Ingeborg's I noticed on their website is that they feature a 'Birthday Club" where they email you a birthday treat - probably a coupon for a free chocolate? I signed up because who am I to turn down freebies?! Ingeborg's is a tradition-rich business that holds onto its core values, recipes and penchant for making its product in-house. In these ways, the shop is fantastic. However, it was missing the typical Solvang customer service flare, shop magic and my boyfriend's pretzel was just meh. Came here and got their hot chocolate and some chocolates of course! OMG. Their hot chocolate here is SO GOOD. So thick and chocolatey. It took a while for them to make it but it helped reassured me that they were not making hot chocolate from powder! The shop has amazing smells of chocolate just wafting around. UGH. I love it! My friend got one and too and I am so happy she shares the same sweet teeth as me cause we both really enjoyed it! It made walking around Solvang really nice having a hot drink in hand! I would say come here grab a hot chocolate and walk around when it's cold out! It's the only time of year where I just eat sweets without thinking. I've got great-grandparents from Denmark.On one side and this is how I celebrate. Oh yeah! We were hot and I wasn't feeling that great. But as wrong as it is, I started feeling so much better after I ate that sunday and had a bunch of water sitting on the stool in that place. And everyone is so nice there. People come in and bark orders at those kids.And they just take it. My boyfriend wants to go to other places to get sweets and I don't. I just want to come here. No, matter where we go, it's always not as good as this place. They have a great atmosphere, they have wonderful food, they have the right attitude, you just can't fake the attitude. I'm pretty good at seeing if you're being fake. I'm glad to see that the younger generation has spirit of i'm gonna do it the best to my ability. They employ young people with no training or experience with customer service. Very quaint and lovely chocolate shop in Solvang. I've been here a few times in the past. I usually get their smooth yummy ice cream and delicious chocolates. However, this time around during my recent visit, I didn't get anything because I just came in here to reminisce on my previous visits that I had with my family. This is an amazing little shop that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. I had some of the best chocolate I've ever had here at Ingeborg's. There are a ton of different chocolate treats to choose from, both milk and dark chocolate. Their dark chocolate is a lower cacao percentage, so it's not overly bitter. I highly recommend the Syrah dark chocolate with salt. It pairs perfectly with a nice glass of red wine. I also love the milk chocolate clusters with pecans and cashews. Another cute candy shop to visit while in Solvang. A Christmas Lifetime movie was made in this shop called "A Very Charming Christmas Town". This is not just a candy shop but it's an ice cream shop too. My mom got a scoop of their Rocky Road ice cream. They sell all sorts of chocolate treats including chocolate covered dried mango and chili mango! I wish I tried them but I was pretty full from breakfast still. I was recommended the dark chocolate raspberry bar, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown--it had an aftertaste that reminded me of cough syrup. Cute, clean, and quaint little shop. Staff is very friendly and engaging. We had the coffee and Rock Roady ice cream. Our grandson had a rainbow sherbet he devoured very quickly and exclaimed it tasted like juice! Very tasty and refreshing on a warm day. The chocolates are to die for and they even showcase specialty sculptured chocolates. We spoke with Kim Jensen, the owner, and he was so sweet and very informative. It's off Copenhagen Dr which is basically the Main Street of the town where most of the shops and restaurants are at. The perfect spot for tourists to visit. They offer a good variety of homemade chocolates, both packaged and by the ounce options are available. I wasn't looking for a huge box to take home and was pleasantly surprised to see a tiny little sampler that includes 4 chocolates and 2 wrapped chocolates for $6.99. Not a bad price! I was so excited to try the traditional Danish flodeboller. My first one was from Brod & Kage and it was a dissapointment. It was flavorless. But I wanted to give another bakery a chance and tried Ingeborg's with the marzipan disc. Wow oh wow! It was delicious!! I have been going into Ingeborg's for years because I enjoy their chocolate. Some times the chocolate is better than other times but on a whole I like their chocolate. Over the years the service has never been good. On rare occasion I have gotten help by a nice, interactive staff but most of the time they are rude, disinterested, and not helpful. The last time I went in was December 12, 2025. The girl helping me fit the typical person of someone who didn't care and was just there to get a paycheck doing as little as possible. When I told her I was paying with cash she looked at me funny so I asked is it okay if I pay with cash? Her reply, "I would rather you pay by card but I guess I'll take the cash." Not good customer interaction if you ask me. My daughter and I were in Solvang in November 2025 and she had a 10% off in Ingeborg's for her birthday so she went in to get a malt. She told the older gentleman she had a coupon for her birthday and showed him the coupon on her phone but he did not honor it. He charge her full price. She did not realize this until we had left. I used to go into Ingeborg's despite the rude service because I liked the chocolate but last December was the last straw, NO MORE!!! They have lost a customer. They probably do not even care. As far as Rocky Mountain Chocolates, they are rude too. And to the gentleman who is looking for a new ice cream place you need to check out Trolly Ice Cream Parlor. Every time I visit this town I make a stop in here for their wonderful home made candies. I have been doing so since the 1970's. I used to buy from the man who owned the place.
