My second visit. My first was the weekend after opening so I assumed the hiccups were due to the establishment working out the kinks. This time, however, I was just as disappointed. The food is mediocre - not bad, just not great. Pizza is a little soft and dull and the raviolis are nothing that I can't unfreeze at home. The bean dip was good, however needs something else to moisten it up. The main issue both times was service. It seems the servers are spread over the entire huge room and don't have sections or tables near the other tables they have to serve. I ordered 2 Old Fashioneds, deliciously made and they use the good cherries, but it was 20 mins after I ordered the 2nd that the server realized he never put it in. Understandable, it happens on a Sat night if you're in the weeds, but after delivering the drink we just sat there. My wife needed her food wrapped, and we wanted to see a dessert menu. But nothing - my plate and glass were cleared, the live band started playing, but still nothing. It was 30 minutes after the band came on that I flagged a different server for our check. This was similar to our first time here, but even that wasn't this bad. 2 stars as a restaurant. I would give it higher if it was a bar that served food, as it's a decent bar scene and has bands and plenty of serving/standing area. But as a restaurant, it needs work. read more

I gave it one star because the bar was huge and no problem finding a seat. We were there early and it was our first (and last)time there The bartender was a young girl void of any personality. We were not aware of specials until she placed small menu on the bar and just walked away. I ordered the white bean burger which by far was the worst vegetarian burger I have ever ordered. I say ordered because I took one bite and it tasted like a lump of oatmeal flattened to look like a veggie burger. It was inedible. Clearly she could see that I barely touched the meal but said nothing and just threw it away when I said I was done. The side salad that came with the "burger"was bathed in dressing. I Commented that altho I did not specify dressing on the side I thought she might have least said "no worries, I'll get you another, instead, she just walked away. So I could not even eat the salad that came with that disgusting burger. I read other reviews where the burger was criticized. Why do you keep it on the menu!!!!!I I was with other people and while their meals were "okay" but they too were appalled by the service . Our bill was well over$100.00. And when we said we wanted our check she never asked "coffee". Dessert? In fact she simply forgot about us and the other bartender took the credit card and processed our payment. Been here a few times - once for a work event, once for happy hour and last night (Saturday) for dinner and cocktails. I had the Calamari and fire grilled Prosciutto/Arugula pizza. It was hot and crispy with a light lemon/garlic olive oil drizzle. Calamari was crispy and tender. The cocktails are vast- I chose a Grapefruit Splash that didn't disappoint. My work event was also handled very professionally. The staff is helpful and courteous. Happy hour is fun to get together with colleagues and let off steam. Friday & Saturday there's entertainment. They had dueling pianos the night I was there and they were awesome! In short- get to Mountainside Stage House. You won't be disappointed. read more

Came for Sunday brunch and left feeling underwhelmed. There was no entertainment, the carving station only had pork, the menu stated there were personal pizzas but there were none there. After we waited 20 minutes for a table we were asked to move our seats to accommodate a larger party. The selections were limited and it was apparent that management was cutting corners. The only seafood selections were small shrimp in a heavy cream sauce and smoked salmon for bagels. The only chicken dish was a mediocre sesame chicken. The deserts and cheeses did not taste fresh. They also recently increased the prices for buffet. This was my first and last time here at the Stage House Tavern. On the plus side, Bovella's is next door and I was able to get a quality desert that I should have received here. read more

I'm a fan of the SH in Somerset (it's closer to me & I know most of the bar staff there b/c I'm there in the summer A LOT) ... 1st time at the Mountainside location. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! My friend and I ordered the Wood Fired Octopus appetizer (because how often do you see THAT on a menu) and it was delicious however we found a problem in the last 1/4 of the dish. The manager Virginia saw me looking for our waitress and came right over; she addressed the issue immediately, comped it and gave us a round on the house too. Our waitress Shanlie was sweet, courteous, quick with our drink orders, and checked on us throughout the rest of our meal (the appy issue was not her fault at all). We both had the Mediterranean Shrimp Linguini but I had it with their vodka sauce b/c I don't do pesto. Delish! I will absolutely go back when in that area. read more

Unbelievably disappointing experience. I tried so hard to believe this resembled by favorite statehouse tavern in Somerset. Not even close. The space is large at the mountainside location that I frankly think kills the charm. It feels more like a mess hall in college. Food was subpar. Well I am ashamed. I've been fooled twice. Another poor experience at the stagehouse. To start, the hangar was decorated for a new years eve party but the crowd seemed like they were waiting for the casket to be rolled in for a funeral. Once again the bar was staffed with unskilled youngsters unable to make the simplest of drinks. When their naivete was exposed they further showed their ignorance by being combat ive. Luckily we skipped the prix fixed menu (whose prices were not so fixed) and had a few appetizers. Chicken drumsticks were okay. The bar pie could barely be called a par pie. And the nachos, I liked nacho much. They arrived cold, devoid of any spicy flavor and drizzled with what looked like thin ranch dressing but was told was ancho cheese. No thanks. This is probably my favorite steakhouse in town. If your gonna splurge this is a great choice. Our waiter Eddie hands down was awesome. My group and I thought he was very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the drink menu. I loved the pomegranate martini! I order 3 and all 3 was each of perfection. Our appetizers was guacamole n chips and calamari. Guacamole was great just the calamari was a little greasy but given a Saturday night didn't take away from the taste. My entree was the fish tacos! Soo good definitely something I will order again the next time I go. As for dessert I had the warm fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream absolutely delicious! We are not from the area but looked up this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. It is a little deceiving from the outside on how big this place is. We actually walked in on the wrong side and didn't hit the hostess stand but they were very friendly and we were able to get a table right away. Alec was our server. He earned up quickly and did a great job. First, they have this amazing sampling of new pita and pate items. We come from a family of pate conesuiers. We tried 3 and the chicken liver was our favorite, followed by the salmon and shrimp. Their ravioli had good flavors but could have had more filling. The procutto pizza had too much garlic which you couldn't taste the other flavors. The service was very good and we enjoyed our experience. read more

Been here many times, primarily because it's very close to home. The food is NOT great. It's very inconsistent pub grub. I've had wings that are pretty good and then wings that have just been sitting around too long. It's like this with many of their dishes, like the personal pizzas and apps - more miss than hit for me. I think it's primarily because it's a HUGE place (former catering hall) that gets quite a crowd on the weekends, they MUST pre prepare food knowing what sells most and what sells less. So I am not a fan of the food but the bar... for sports fans...it's heaven! Many HUGE tv's all around, and enough beer options on tap to satisfy most, though no craft beers (I don't care). The outdoor patio is a nice plus, although I avoid it in the hot summer, but it still seems very busy in summer (also TV's out there). Finally, it can get very noisy inside so no romantic dinners here, or maybe on a Tuesday night? Thumbs up for drinks (nice big bar area), thumbs down on the food. read more

Great atmosphere. I was excited when we walked in. Very nice date night spot, it appears to that they have live music or Karaoke bc there was a small stage. It's a huge restaurant/bar and again very nice atmosphere. The reason I gave such a low rating was bc both the drinks and food was trash. My fiance ordered the chicken and waffles and both was burned. When we talked to the server abt it his suggestion was to taste the obviously burnt food to see if it "taste ok" ‍. My fiance isn't someone who likes to send food back so he attempted to eat around the charcoal. They knew that was a hot mess and took it off the bill without having to be asked but I'm just very disappointed that they would attempt to serve the food that way. I ordered the ravioli which was undercooked, the pasta was hard and I didn't even eat it. I love Pasta and if u follow me you see Italy is one of my favorite places on earth. This ravioli couldn't compete with your local pizza store. Ruined our 1st visit. Then the server's suggestion to see if it tasted ok was stupid to me... if I wanted ok I could've stayed at home. Horrible customer service, called to make reservations and no one could help. Took my information and no one ever called back. Called the next day and Manager said there's no reservations left. But there were some the day I called. Then in another instance we had a party to attend, called about gluten free food, they took my information to have someone call me back which no one did. They then contacted the person that the party was for instead. Good thing it wasn't a surprise! They really need to educated their staff and managers on how to respond to calls and questions! read more

This was the first time my family and I tried this restaurant, and it will be the last. We came here on a relaxed Sunday afternoon for our grandmother's birthday. The restaurant was not busy, and so we expected less of an issue with service. However, we were serviced with one server for the 15 of us. After an hour passed, which was when we finally received our appetizers, the waitress confirmed with us that she was ready to finalize the order after asking if we needed any changes. This was very surprising, but also comical. Stage House Tavern, a very popular restaurant around town, displayed the worse service I have ever witnessed. I wanted to like this place...I really did. I used to live in their original location in Franklin Park, NJ and loved going for happy hours/BBQs. I never found the original to be 'good', rather, a place to hang out with the guys since they had a sweet outdoor section and a free BBQ. One afternoon, I was driving to westfield and noticed the construction of this restaurant and thought, "huh, I wonder if its the same place?". My mother is a die-hard and lifelong Stagehouse fan, so she made reservations and told me that we are having a family dinner there. We always order the nachos as an appetizer along with our wine/beer/cocktails. The nachos a fairly run of the mill, and while decent, offers nothing exciting. My girlfriend and I split the Shrimp Scampi and Parmesan crusted chicken. Both acceptable dishes, but relies way too heavily on salt/sodium that makes you feel like a slug afterward. We entered again and as a table ordered the filet mignon, shrimp scampi, caesar salad, nachos, potato skins as well as a few other dishes. All the 'shrimp' dishes had shrimp that was either undercooked or overcooked. One of the shrimp was entirely gray and raw. The Filet mignon was nothing special, however, given the price, it is completely acceptable (you're not getting steakhouse quality/preparation and the price fairly and accurately displays that). Over the course of the year, I have had pretty much a dish from every menu category. Everything is painfully mediocre and leaves my party and I feeling bloated afterward. This place shines as a bar, offering live bands and a lot of space. But as a dine-in restaurant, the establishment as a whole (non-location specific) always misses the mark. The service is never good, only 'acceptable' if you're lucky. We had a 20% gratuity added to our bill and I was going to ask the manager to get that knocked down to 15% and realized the poor service wasnt our servers fault..He was running around constantly trying to appease to his tables, rather, managements fault for poor table planning and resource planning. I really want to like Stagehouse, I go here constantly as their bar area is acceptable for when I have to travel back to the burbs to meet with my friends. But the food constantly leaves me disappointed and/or sick. Many reviewers mention the food quality in their reviews, enough for the owners to realize there might be room for improvement. read more

came here for the first time this weekend after being a regular at the original location for years! i came with a large party for my birthday and honestly i think this is what the place is good for. it used to be an event space and is HUGE! even the bar is massive with lots of TVs. our party of 9 had no problem being accommodated on a busy holiday saturday night and had plenty of space. it was so festive and the plants and trees inside make for a great ambiance. however, the food took forever :( i was starving by the time our appetizers finally came out. didn't even have time to snag some photos LOL. but when the food did finally come out, everything was delicious. our waiter was also very sweet and patient. the menu is Huge so they have something for everyone, and they never miss!! i do still prefer the original location, but this one is great for large parties, so i'll probably be back. just be aware the kitchen can get backed up if you're on a time crunch. thank you stage house!! read more

If you're looking for a Sunday brunch this is a Great place to go to. NFL FOOTBALL SUNDAYS are great here because the service is quick and when you want in they have the football games labeled so that you can sit near where your favorite team will be playing. I haven't been back to any of the restaurants around this place because of how much I love the statehouse food. The outdoor area looks amazing as well. read more

Why do I have a burger that I didn't ask for? I ordered earlier today.... and it was a large order. With specific instruction! You guys write it down and take note of what I wanted but don't pay attention to the special requests.. I got a burger and asked for no lettuce, tomato, Mayo and asked for Avocado and bacon. But guess what I got? A burger with Lettuce, tomato and Mayo. NO AVOCADO OR BACON. Now to order number two in that large order. I ordered a quesadilla with no scallions or pico. And I got exactly JUST THAT. GET IT TOGETHER FELLAS. McDonald's does a better job that you guys at a fraction of the cost. The guy at the phone definitely repeated my order too. So what did he do with my special instructions? Throw them out after I ended the call? UNACCEPTABLE. The whole dinner that I paid $130 for isn't even edible at this point. read more

I've been to their Scotch Plains location plenty of times and have always enjoyed the food. I figured this spot will be just as good. Going just before noon was a good idea because the seating and service were ideal. However, the food was not only bland, the portions were minimal. I ordered blackened salmon tacos ($13.95) and didn't realize that they're not regular sized tacos but small, FINGER tacos. Where was the salmon? God only knows. There's no sides of pico, sour cream, etc except a small scoop of black beans (canned) with white rice. I also had an order of calamari which was tasty but cold. You could also see by the breading that they were previously frozen and dropped in the fryer at some point. Listen, I'll give this spot one more try. Sometimes things happen. But I hate leaving a restaurant still hungry after spending $56 on lunch (no drinks). read more

Extremely underwhelming service, sat at the outdoor bar and they completely forgot my protein on my salad. I understand about not wanting to be too attentive but they didn't check on anything nor did the come back to check on how things were after completely missing my salmon. Management needs better training so they could properly train their staff! Great beet salad, but a decent salad is not going to make up for the lack in hospitality, especially during these times. We went here with a party of 12 last night. Service was horrible. Really slow, drinks took forever to come. Waitress was never around. The host of our little party literally had to walk around trying to find our server to order dessert. And then when she gets there she says "just so you know, kitchen closes in 10 minutes so get your dessert orders in". Yes, that was why we were looking for you! Definitely avoid this place. Went to this place yesterday for my wife's birthday dinner. We had a fairly large party of 16 people. We had been here many times before and it was good but yesterday was a terrible experience. We get there for our 6:30 reservation and don't get served until 8pm. They also made several mistakes with the food. The ciabatta bread was burnt on two sandwiches. The manager made no attempt to come to our table or even make things right. After the experience yesterday I would not go back. We have been here a couple times. Once for a nice dinner when I had the lamb shank (delicious! I still talk about it) and once with an out of town friend. This time I had the brisket. I don't particularly like ciabatta rolls but it was okay. Now the tacos are delicious and have a little kick! The place is big and has a nice sky light and greenery area in the center. My friend ordered the Cobb Salad she didn't enjoy it! And it was $15.50!! Also I ordered the little neck clams that was falsely advertised! They gave me 10 baby clams for 11.50. Sigh. I don't know where to start. I've been to this location several times now - most recently at the Sunday brunch last week. I love the atmosphere and the food is good, but the service is not great. When they first opened I chalked it up to growing pains, getting the groove, etc so I didn't want to jump the gun on reviewing but it's just a mess. You have to ask a couple times for a drink. Random other waiters come and take an order or bring an order- it's just a mess. I can't figure out if they are understaffed or undertrained. Absolutely adored Stage House. The service was excellent, the waiters were very nice, and the food was AMAZING. For appetizer, we had the buffalo chicken dip which was divine, and for the main course I had meatball ravioli, which was delicious as well. My sibling had pizza (I do not remember which kind) which was very good too. Overall a great place and very family friendly! read more
