We had a terrible experience here on Saturday August 1st. We made reservations for a party of 8 ( for a communion). An out of town relative surprised us and showed. Upon arriving at the restaurant the hostess was rather rude and telling us that the limit for a group was eight people. She said there was nothing she could do and we would not be seated. I asked continuously there must be something that could be done and it was decided to split the party. Little did I know they would put us in two separate groups on opposite sides of the outside area which was rather ridiculous. To make matters worse when we want to be seated one of the chairs collapsed under one of our guests fell. While there were a few apologies nothing extra was given are done to compensate or try to appease The embarrassing situation. When the waitress came and took our orders we found the Sodas were flat and she said nothing could really be done. The food was OK but unfortunately we never saw a waitress again and even our check was handled by a different individual. We were less than satisfied with how we were handled, the seating, the low quality of the soda and the situation overall. read more

Had a good time when we went there last night. The place is huge, and we got our drinks pretty quickly. And our waitress Nicolette was very bubbly, friendly, and very eager to help. We all enjoyed our meals, I got the fried cod, American beef, and pulled pork tacos, all of which were delicious. Only small complaint is that it took a little while to get our order down, but the place was packed, so it's not that big of a deal. Definitely coming back! read more

Came in for a holiday lunch without company. We had 2 private servers that were attentive to all our needs. Kept drinks and food trays full. The food was very good. We had garden and Cesar salad, mixed vegetables, chicken marsala, boneless short ribs and seafood paella. Nothing was over seasoned. The short ribs were incredible. Veggies were fresh cut, string beans, carrots, etc. Dessert was simple platters of assorted cookies and some small pieces of pecan and some other pies. The big issue is the acoustics inside the main room is so bad .. the ceiling is so low .. that it's sooooo loud .. the waitress has to scream to be heard and at the table of four .. really could only talk to the person right next to you and even then we keep saying "what?"... read more

I really wanted to like it here since I love the other restaurants in this chain. We came for dinner on Saturday night- the drinks took a half hour to come out and one was wrong, service all together was very slow which turned us all off. We split the nachos which were OK, the onion rings were pretty good though. We stayed for the band and bar at night, that brought the place up a little- although it's so big it still feels empty when a lot of people are there. This place never disappoints. They have plenty of TVs if you enjoy watching sports, and if you come late enough on the weekends they have live entertainment. They also have a large dining area if you dont want to sit near the bar. There are plenty of food options and specials, and the staff is super friendly and attentive. read more

I visited this place on Sunday and the service was terrible. They sat us at a table that didn't fit the entire party. Once they moved us, it took about an hour to get appetizers. The food was subpar, fries were burnt on multiple plates. Since they've come under new management the menu and service has been a let down. I will not be back. read more

Sign stated short staffed and to be patient, however establishment seemed to be well staffed for a Saturday evening. I sat and waited for 15 minutes with no drink menu, but food menu was already on the table when I was seated. I watched my waitress go to to all of the surrounding tables, and bypass my table several times, I even witnessed her go over to the bar area, and scan the area, and never bothered to come to my table, until I asked the busboy for a manager, then she came over to say I am so sorry about that, I will be right with you. Now what she went off to do, I have no idea. The manager Susan came over, apologized profusely, and said first round of drinks on the house, because of mishap. Waitress came back, after awhile took my food order. Had the wings & margarita pizza, EPIC FAIL! Wings were undercooked, after requesting them well done. In the end, the manager Susan, went above and beyond to make sure my experience was nothing short of amazing. Her spirit and energy was out of this world. Stagehouse has a true gem! However, they definitely need to work on their food, because the taste is definitely lacking! read more

Our service was incredibly slow - we waited an hour to get our appetizers - and only about half the food that came out was decent or hot. We had to send one meal back. One meal was missing an ingredient. The bread for the burgers was not good and didn't go with the burgers. All the fries were over cooked. My wife and I went there for the first time on Saturday March 11 and the place was packed! So we went to the main bar to just get a drink and maybe score some seats. My wife went to put our names on the waiting list and didn't come back until 15 minutes later! They had 6 employees at the reservation desk and only one working computer. I ordered two beers from one bartender and didn't see him. Another came over and I said that I ordered two beers and the second bartender proceeded to pour my beers but the keg was out. Shouldn't the first bartender have told me that and offered me something else? So my wife comes back 15 minutes later and finally two seats opened up at the bar. We sat down and ordered. The food was mediocre at best. We should have ordered burgers, hard to screw those up, but we order the meatloaf and the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie was more of a chicken soup with a pita disc on top rather than a biscuit crust. The meatloaf was ok. We also ordered the guacamole which lacked any kind of flavor. Then came dessert, and what a joke that was. It was described as pecan pie with chantilly cream. Well, I don't know about you, but cool whip doesn't pass for chantilly cream! We will have to try the Scotch Plains location since a lot of people recommended that location. Go to the Echo Tap and Grill next door, much better place. read more

What happened? Typically when a new restaurant opens you expect a few hiccups here and there until they hit their groove. Unfortunately this has been the exact opposite with one of our usual go to's: Stagehouse. When stagehouse on route 22 first opened it was a hot spot to visit with friends any night of the week. You could expect great atmosphere, great service and best of all, great food. However the hot streak didn't last. In more recent times we have been experiencing decent atmosphere (except for the rare night when the Benjamin's are performing), decent service and sub-par food. Our typical orders of nachos, burgers and chicken fingers have been dry, cold and flavorless. To top it off, Management and servers have been unforgiving for the sloppy, poor presentation and lack of flavor. Countless times have we been sitting at our table for long stretches, without drinks, menus, cutlery, food, check ins, or checks. Countless times have we had to send our food back for more sauce, more heat, more flavor. Countless times have we been disappointed. Needless to say we will not be returning to stagehouse for quite some time. For a restaurant with so much potential, it is sad to see them become so complacent with mediocrity. PS: if you do decide to try it for yourself make sure you ask for Kyle as your waiter because he is the only one who cares enough to ensure your time at stagehouse is enjoyable. read more

The pro's of this place are definitely the outdoor space and solid happy hour options. Went yesterday and it was a gorgeous day, perfect for hanging outside and having a couple of drinks! It's a really huge space and by the time we were leaving it was getting packed outside. The food was just mediocre--we shared some spinach dip, buffalo chicken tenders and fish tacos. The food was good and the portions were generous. Great pastas. Even though we had 2 waitresses, it was hard to get a drink refilled, we had to flag them down as it was never offered. We don't go many places; At first we were excited as the restaurant is large so we expected seating to be distanced. It didn't last. Instead they sat a party in a booth right next to us and another right behind us. They also did this in the next row. Mind you there were at least 15 other booths open, so I would've expected them to at least sit every other booth. The rest of the booths never got guests over the 2.5 hours we were there, so I don't know why we had to be clustered on top of 2 other parties (they were also big groups and there were only 2 of us). Unfortunately we felt uncomfortable so I don't think we will dine here again until after Covid. read more

I've come here possibly 6-7 times I leave extremely happy each time Bar is huge so seating is never an issue but I was disappointed to find no pina coladas or any coconut drinks for summer Every bar should be able to make a pina colada w fancy fruit. This place is seriously great. The outdoor area on a nice day is to die for. My friend and I went for a drink which turned into us staying for hours. That's always a wonderful sign!!! The margaritas are great and the happy hour is amazing. We had clams, oysters, shrimp, and a bar pizza. I couldn't find a thing to complain about. They had numerous amounts of bartenders who are constantly checking up on you. The atmosphere is amazing and you're blocked from the busy rt 22 traffic by a huge wall with giant flat screen TVs. I'm super happy a friend works close by, it's my excuse to come here all the time. read more

Drinks were phenomenal; food was a complete disappointment compared to our first time here. The 10 oz. Steak had no flavor at all, and the vegetables were charred. My family and I just returned from Thanksgiving dinner at the Stage House Tavern in Mountainside, NJ. This was the second year we went as the first year was wonderful. The food was very good and the staff were very nice and welcoming. The one disappointment, and to me it's major, was that the turkey breast meat was not real turkey. While you were able to get dark meat off the bone the breast meat was sliced and on the buffet but it was pressed turkey. It wasn't good. The Stage House planned a beautiful buffet but someone felt it was okay to serve pressed turkey. What a shame. read more

I always have fun here - I go in the summer to go to the outside patio with friends & grab some drinks (which usually leads to ordering late night appetizers) - I love that the kitchen is open late! With streaming lights hung up high, and music playing, it's definitely a great spot to get drinks at night, regardless your age. I see people from 21-55+ there & everyone is enjoying their time! I have only been for drinks & appetizers, later on (after 8pm), but, I've been here at least 20 times, & it's always great! Oh, & you can smoke outside too. There are 2 bars & plenty of tables/chairs outside. With cobblestone floors on the patio, and the hung string lights, it creates a delightful atmosphere & never disappoints! read more

Long Island Iced Tea was strong.. tacos were on point.. Came here for the 1st time and ordered tacos.. I have no complaints with the tacos just wish the tacos came with red rice & black beans included in the meal instead of an additional charge.. (like some restaurants I've been too).. My second visit. My first was the weekend after opening so I assumed the hiccups were due to the establishment working out the kinks. This time, however, I was just as disappointed. The food is mediocre - not bad, just not great. Pizza is a little soft and dull and the raviolis are nothing that I can't unfreeze at home. The bean dip was good, however needs something else to moisten it up. The main issue both times was service. It seems the servers are spread over the entire huge room and don't have sections or tables near the other tables they have to serve. I ordered 2 Old Fashioneds, deliciously made and they use the good cherries, but it was 20 mins after I ordered the 2nd that the server realized he never put it in. Understandable, it happens on a Sat night if you're in the weeds, but after delivering the drink we just sat there. My wife needed her food wrapped, and we wanted to see a dessert menu. But nothing - my plate and glass were cleared, the live band started playing, but still nothing. It was 30 minutes after the band came on that I flagged a different server for our check. This was similar to our first time here, but even that wasn't this bad. 2 stars as a restaurant. I would give it higher if it was a bar that served food, as it's a decent bar scene and has bands and plenty of serving/standing area. But as a restaurant, it needs work. read more

I gave it one star because the bar was huge and no problem finding a seat. We were there early and it was our first (and last)time there The bartender was a young girl void of any personality. We were not aware of specials until she placed small menu on the bar and just walked away. I ordered the white bean burger which by far was the worst vegetarian burger I have ever ordered. I say ordered because I took one bite and it tasted like a lump of oatmeal flattened to look like a veggie burger. It was inedible. Clearly she could see that I barely touched the meal but said nothing and just threw it away when I said I was done. The side salad that came with the "burger"was bathed in dressing. I Commented that altho I did not specify dressing on the side I thought she might have least said "no worries, I'll get you another, instead, she just walked away. So I could not even eat the salad that came with that disgusting burger. I read other reviews where the burger was criticized. Why do you keep it on the menu!!!!!I I was with other people and while their meals were "okay" but they too were appalled by the service . Our bill was well over$100.00. And when we said we wanted our check she never asked "coffee". Dessert? In fact she simply forgot about us and the other bartender took the credit card and processed our payment. Been here a few times - once for a work event, once for happy hour and last night (Saturday) for dinner and cocktails. I had the Calamari and fire grilled Prosciutto/Arugula pizza. It was hot and crispy with a light lemon/garlic olive oil drizzle. Calamari was crispy and tender. The cocktails are vast- I chose a Grapefruit Splash that didn't disappoint. My work event was also handled very professionally. The staff is helpful and courteous. Happy hour is fun to get together with colleagues and let off steam. Friday & Saturday there's entertainment. They had dueling pianos the night I was there and they were awesome! In short- get to Mountainside Stage House. You won't be disappointed. read more
