Wanted to enjoy a good Sunday Brunch, I decided to go to Blues and Brunch at the Mountainside location. My reservation was for 11:00. At 11:05 I prepared my first plate, all the hot food was cold. I mentioned it to the waitress who said she have the kitchen "check it out". What is there to check? She came back with some poor excuse and apologized. Well neither helps the fact that the only thing I could enjoy was my omelette. I give my $29 omelette 1 star and the waitress Courtney, who was okay 1 star. Stage House has been our favorite, equidistant spot off RT 22 for every major occasion: anniversaries, birthdays, excuses to get toasty and dance the night away (don't forget your designated driver by the way, low-key the hero of the night) We tend to come here every February and hopefully during this pandemic we can make an exception. One thing that keeps us coming back year after year is their selection of house cover bands. For starters, we had the thanksgiving and mother's day brunch. Both times the food was pretty much the same exact spread, it looks fancy, but the place is so dark its hard to see anything. The food was good, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It was enough for you to pile it onto their heavy plates. I didn't go back for seconds. The ribs tasted the best but I had a stomach ache after only 3 of them, that lasted for hours. Would I go back? I personally wouldn't, its expensive for what you get. The dessert, most of it is flavorless, a cookie that had a jelly on it that had no flavor. The plain cookies are good though, so I recommend getting those. Get your food 10min after the rush, its too crowded otherwise and there is no real indicator of flow. The room is dark, and VERY NOISY, there are no curtains, carpets or anything at all that breaks up the sound. Its just one big noisy room, and the piped in music got louder, and then the people had so speak over the music. I don't like noise, it took a day to recover. The floors are concrete, with so much wax, I had a hard time walking without sliding. An old guy had to grab my arm for support because he almost fell. There were people tiptoeing to see where the slick spot was.. There wasn't any. It was a wax build up on his shoes. And I know this now because when I was on the concrete, then the street the next day - I was still sliding. They should strip all the wax off that floor. Also why no salt shakers? I had to actually ask for salt? Was there a theft problem? As soon as I got dessert they snatched it right up. Like they have one set for the whole place...? But the reason we went back is because its the only buffet open for this kind of event. So I can't say it was great, but it wasn't that bad. read more

I've been to Stage house but it's been a while. This was my first time visiting the Scotch Plains location. Top marks for atmosphere! Great flow and outdoor accommodations. Staff friendly and welcoming. Clean bathroom looks well attended. My dinner was okay. I started off with a Kentucky Mule. Top marks for the bartender. Usually the Kentucky Mules have way too much lime juice. This was perfectly balanced. Our table got dry rub wings with sauce on the side. Crispy and tasty. Bbq sauce had a nice twang to it. Moving to entree it fell short. The meatball raviolis were paper thin. In their defense they advertise this as a small ravioli. However they aren't doing themselves any favors on this dish. It was hard to taste anything besides the pasta and sauce. For what it was worth, sauce was tasty. Little kick to it, I had the vodka sauce. Either make these bigger or add small meatballs into the sauce to achieve the desired result. Restaurant needs to retool these if they are consistently this thin. Dessert was a true disappointment. Got the brownie sundae. No way this wasn't a box mix. Dry and lacked flavor. Brownie sundae should be a fresh baked brownie and hot. Portions of the brownie were warm but it was so dry and flavorless only the ice cream could save it. My guests very much enjoyed their meals so perhaps luck of the draw and choices. They were busy but not on a wait. We sat at a high top by the bar area and were greeted by a server almost immediately. We ordered the chorizo corn dip and my husband ordered a beer. They didn't have a great selection of tap beer but it was good enough. The appetizer was good but not great, I wish it was creamier. For dinner I ordered the seafood cannelloni and it was really good. My husband ordered the seafood ravioli and it was just ok.... This is a great place to come with the family or just friends to hang out. They have a lot of big screen TVs so it's perfect for watching the game! The bar is cool as it's circular and you can see the TVs from all sides. I would like to try the brunch buffet here one day but this day I was here later in the afternoon. It seems like a popular spot for brunch though. I didn't get to try much here but the smoked chicken wings were delicious. The bartenders were also very friendly! They did seem stretched a bit thin until another one showed up but they stayed on top of things for the most part anyways. Sometimes they will even give you a comp drink! They also have signs all over saying that they'll pay for your Uber home so you won't drink and drive. How nice is that?! read more

Went the for mountainside restaurant week. Had the 3 course meal, Salad was ok, never put on dressing and it was too much dressing also portion sizes where was off. My Wife had the same salad and mine look half the size. My Dinner Pork Osso Bucco and it was soft and tender, but over salted heavily salted. Ruin the taste of the pork. My Wife had pot roast which she enjoyed. Service was SLOW very Slow. Until a waitress who wasn't part of our section came over and took our order. I came in last night on Saturday, and I don't usually write reviews, but my waitress Jami was just absolutely amazing she was one of the sweetest, most attentive waiter we've ever had and my husband and I dine out alot! It takes a lot for my husband to come out of his shell he usually eats his food and doesn't really talk, but by the end of this meal, he was honestly laughing and talking to her she was just such a joy and so kind she even gave us great recommendations the food was absolutely delicious and the pumpkin espresso martini that she recommended was top notch! Writing this from outside the establishment. Been going here for a few years, wasn't an optimal spot (off a highway, prices not really attractive), but friends still want to visit. Purchased tickets for $56.13 for the Thanksgiving Eve event. Doors open at 10:00. Arrived with plenty of time to enter. Waiting here for an hour. Was denied entry even though us and a group of people had purchased tickets. Security and management made our group wait outside for over one hour in 38 degree weather. I'm extremely disappointed in the management of this event (overselling tickets). Besides that, this venue is incredibly lackluster - made for catering events and not much else. Save your time - save your money - save your energy, and find somewhere else to go. Last straw for a mediocre venue in a unattractive location. read more

We went there for a company party last night. Here is how it went. We had wings which were good and a few appetizers. The meal was the issue. It was buffet. The first was mashed potatoes. These must have been powdered and they were the most dry flavorless, worse than military I have ever eaten. Then garlic broccoli, dry as a bone, the chicken like a Marsala but wasn't Marsala sauce, this was ok. The ribs were exactly like cosco ribs. The desert was cookies with no coffee or drink served, I asked for coffee and got it, but nobody else did. My boss paid a lot for this with open bar, I can't cook but I know I could have done better with a cookbook. I don't know how they stay in business honestly, I will never return. I'm going to start with I am pissed off that I left a full jambalaya risotto on the table because my son was so eager to leave, I forgot to take our bag of leftovers! If I could give an extra .5 stars I definitely would. Stage House in Mountainside is a go to spot when I'm in the mood for some good food and equally as good people watching. The place is huge so there could be 100s of people in there when busy! I have been there a bunch of times but last night I went with the Pork Osso Buco (special menu) which was delicious. You could tell the chef spent a lot of time thinking about the dish and it was cooked to perfection. I also have several of their old fashioneds (don't worry the Mrs drove home) that have a bit of maple syrup in them which are also delicious. The Mrs had the Barbacoa tacos which she said were delicious. Personally I'm not much of a taco at restaurants type of guy mainly because I can't eat only 3!! I have found that the food and service here is a lot more consistent with the Scotch Plains location and I just like the vibe a lot better. Happy eating!! read more

I don't understand the bad reviews. I thought the food was really good. Typical bar food but I enjoyed everything I tried (pizza, nachos, buffalo tenders and raviolis). I highly recommend the raviolis and on Monday they are unlimited. They have great specials everyday. I haven't been to the other locations, but this one is good for happy hour. It has been super packed both times I've been there, but the space is large enough where it does not feel crowded. Service is a bit slow but that is a give in for a new place. They are still trying to get the kinks out. Give this place a try. I will definitely be a regular. read more

We went to the bar to get their menu Of happy hour and they said there's really no specific menu for happy hour..handed ua their regular food menu..no drink menu. we asked if there are drinks For happy hour and they just said, some are.. didnt specify which ones. so we looked around, no signs posted of atleast drinks on specials ..nothing on screen incase we missed that.. why would they even have happy hour until 6 if you are just ordering off their regular menu? First time here and really enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere and tables are really well spaced out. Menu is all over the place with tons of choices (which is sometimes a red flag) but everything we ordered was excellent. My last recent experience was made extra amazing by the waiter. This waiter was beyond attentive to our party of 8. Let me not forget the manager who came around to greet us and assure his service was available. The attentiveness speaks a lot for a location that is super busy on a weekend evening. Food and drinks were all brought out in a timely manner. We requested that the kids meals be brought out with the appetizer and the request was accomplished. The food was cooked just right as the seasoning too was good. Pricing was a plus as well. For our party of 8 (two being kids) the bill amounted to about $290. You will find ample parking. I recommend calling in advance for reservations. For those who would like to just hang at the bar, the bar is big enough to find seating and/or tables in that area. Just had the best experience outside dining with our server Courtney! I am a big lover of this place and she made the ambiance even better. Went their for dinner at 5 on a Saturday. It sounded like Chuck E. Cheese, so do yourself a favor and don't go until 6. It looked like a dark cafeteria with tables in the center, a bar on one side, and booths on the other side. Looks good for a sports bar. Our waiter was on the slow side, he came to the table every 20 minutes or so....but the food was delicious and was served timely. We started with the loaded nachos, which had thick tortillas chips and plenty of cheese. I had the special, short rib pappardelle. Yum! The short rib was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The pappardelle (thick, flat pasta noodles) was also cooked perfectly. Portions were generous and the beer was cold. However, what a pleasant surprise the Appetizers and drinks were nicely, timely served even in the anticipation of our friends and family arriving the Waitress was always on hand with the crew to ask for our order and what we would like as we were talking she was very considerate and walked around filling the water and asked our kids what they needed. I have not begun on the food The Food was scrumptious, the Flat Iron Steak had a nostalgic taste from my New York days when there was a little tinge if something special in our sauce over every meal. They best part is the band during the night as we sat and said our goodByes to friends and family 90's to 2022 songs played by a live band made us all smile as we departed. We had just celebrated my Mom's 99th Birthday at The Stage House in Mountainside, NJ We have used them last year, and will continue to use The Stage House as our events. Cynthia, the Event Coordinator was great to work with. She was very helpful in all the planning, and made our party a great success. We did the Sunday Best Brunch Buffet, and our guests couldn't get over the amount of food and all the many options. We had breakfast and luncheon hot and cold chaffing dishes, stations, pizza, and desserts with coffee. The head waiter John, made sure every chaffer remained full with food, cleared off any empty dishes, poured coffee, and made everyone feel at home. The place is spotless, and there is a bar if you want to have open or cash bar available to your guests. I cannot recommend The Stage House in Mountainside enough. It is a perfect venue, easy to get to, plenty of space to sit and enjoy the amazing food, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. This review is based on the only two times I've dined here . I love the food not the service . I loved the flavor, the presentation ,the freshness . The service is a hit or miss . Didn't love my server , or the front desk people and her attitude but the food itself was worth it . Just train the staff not to look someone up and down with a dirty look when walking in . My partner and I came here for our anniversary and was not even welcomed with a hello or smile . As a gay couple I take service at places particularly personal so A friendly smile and hello would of been just fine , the food made up for that Unwelcomed feeling . The staff needs a little more training in that area . Don't make others feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed . That's my only complaint . The food is so worth the price ! I came here for the first time with my husband Saturday evening on 7/16/2022. The bartender Eyan was very rude, disrespectful, and highly unprofessional. He completely acted as if we were invisible the whole night, totally ignored us when we tried to get his attention. When we finally got his attention by calling his name, he condescedingly mocked us by pointing his fingers at us while repeating his name 3 times then walked away. My husband was so angry and I don't blame him. I've never seen such bad customer service in my life. Thank God for the other bartender Hunter that finally served us, she was amazing. This is the buffalo chicken pizza. If you look at the photo the chef just dumped a load of hot sauce on the middle of the pizza and under cook it to the point of almost not cooked at all. Thank the gods the staff is able to make this problem go away. read more
