Decided to pick this place to eat dinner with my family yesterday night. The actual restaurant is nice.... but I was not impressed at all with my dinner and the service was pretty awful. We were greeted and served our drinks (they took like 10 min to arrive). Our appetizer plates and silverware were both dirty. There was food stuck to both forks in each set. After bringing back clean place settings, we never saw our waitress again. Other serves brought our dinner. NO one came to check on us at all... to see if we needed refills or if our food was ok. My raviolis were not at all tasty. I took most of it home. The top raviolis actually looked like they sat under a heat lamp for some time, as they were dried out. What a let down. read more

Food was good. Drinks were ok but small and overpriced. I would have been fine with all of that if it wasn't for the service.. we received our appetizers before our first round of drinks. At first I just shrugged it off thinking maybe the server was overwhelmed. We saw our server maybe two times at most. Had empty glasses in front of us for our entire meal. I had the Stagehouse burger and would get it again -Good, strong drinks Cons: -Service was slow and inattentive, my mom's burger was missing the chipotle mayo it was supposed to come with so we asked for it on the side. We saw our server do about 3 other things in the meantime before he brought it to us (it wasn't busy and he had no sense of urgency) -The desserts were just not good :( We ordered the bourbon pecan pie, apple pie, and creme brûlée- none of us enjoyed any of them. This place lost so much favor tonight in my book. I understand the COVID restrictions really tie business's hands. But these guys, stop all service at 9pm for a 10pm close. I mean ALL service. Literally I ordered a steak dinner at 8:50 and by the time it came, it was 9:10. I asked for a beer to eat my steak with it. She said no it was passed 9pm. I was like are you serious?!? I wasn't there to drink hard or anything, but I just wanted a beer to go with the steak. I asked if she could ask the manager, she said "sorry it was a hard no". So I literally took my steak and asked for Togo containers because I rather eat at home with a beer than play around there. I took my food and went down the street to Echo. It was 9:30 by this time. They sat me, and let me get two drinks, AND guess what, I was out by 10pm still. Stage House really needs to rethink their policy with COVID. I understand that ABC is strict and they probably came by at some point (the Echo manager told us), but come on, 9pm shut down for 10pm is ridiculous and makes me NEVER want to come back. read more

Mountainside NJ, may not be a destination often spoke about. At least when I was told we were meeting up there, I suggested JC or Hoboken, more common destination for a Friday girls night out. It may be more west from the hot spots of Jersey, but Stage House Tavern knows how to PARTY and bring a crowd! Stage House tavern has a very large bar and a dinning room equal in capacity. All the patrons of the bar where very friendly, we were even asked to be part of a surprise 40th birthday entrance, even assist another ladies group take a flattering selfie !! The drinks were most impressive, TITOS on TAP!! I was told this common, guess I need to go out more often! I had a Tito's lemonade with spicy jalapeños- SALUTE The food menu seemed good, didn't get a chance to eat :/ had too much fun listening to the Benjamins a local cover band. Needed to share this review ASAP, STage House has some Super Bowl catering menus and would be a fun place to go with your Valentine or Galantine. Came here with my family for our Anniversary on a Sunday around 1 pm. Beautiful place with ample parking and a beautiful outdoor seating section. Was greeted by a nice server, ordered our drinks and headed to the buffet. We opted for the brunch option that was $29 a person. Set up of the buffet was great, nice selection of breakfast and lunch items mixed. Awesome omelette station with a lot of choices. To add to the great ambiance was a jazz and blues band that were great entertainment, great surprise! Had all the football games on**my boys were happy The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is when I received my check 20% gratuity was added on. We served ourselves and the waiter perhaps got us drinks twice and picked up our plates twice. Definitely not fair to added that in, granted if we ordered off the regular menu and were provided service, yes, add it in. Management should maybe consider changing that. read more

Went to this place for happy hour a few weeks ago. Never been and have heard some good things about it. First impression: This place is big! Maybe a little too spread out, but it's good that we don't feel cramped. We got seated by the hostess at a 6-person high-top next to the giant bar. Then greeted nicely by our waitress. Service was decent to good. Said waitress was good in the beginning, great help with the drink selections, choices, etc. But through out the night, we see less and less of her. This is one of my pet peeves in bars/restaurants... Attentiveness. We don't bite! (at least I don't) Check up on us more often! Although it looks like she had to cover a lot of ground between customers in the high-tops and the ones in the dining area. I say management should segregate bar area personnel away from dining area personnel but that's just me. Anyway, services went on mostly without a hitch. Food: Very good in my opinion. The rest of the gang liked theirs too. I had a chicken and sausage gumbo type of dish which I thought could use a little more sauce but good nonetheless. I like things saucy! Atmosphere: Decent. I can't help but think of this place as a giant dining hall. If you're looking for a place to seat that giant family of yours, this is the place for you! Just watch out for Uncle Joe, he can't handle his liquor. Parking: Onsite lot, some spaces to the right and a huge lot in the back. Overall impression is good. First, this is one of our go-to restaurants and the food is great 98% of the time. What is really getting tiresome is the slow service. Not so much for food, but for drinks. It has gotten ridiculous here. It now takes 15-20 minutes after you order your drink for it to arrive. I was a bartender , bar manager and restaurant manager and this is crazy. They have 2 service bars and 2 regular bars. It took 20 minutes to get a draft beer and a glass of prosecco. This is not a one-time occurrence either. Walked in on a Saturday around 8pm and it's busy! Was able to find parking and get a table for 2 right away! It's a beautiful space. We sat outside on the patio and I was really impressed. I came here for the first time on a Wednesday. There is an outside area that looked really nice with the, but due to the weather we didn't go outside. The inside wasn't packed. There was no wait, but the bar area was a little crowded. They had wine down Wednesday which included half off bottle of wine or $15 pitcher of sangria which was amazing! Definitely recommend. I gave it 3 stars because the food was just ok. Not much flavor in the meats, but it wasn't bad. I will definitely try it again. I had fish tacos which didn't taste like much, but the chicken tacos were good because of the chipotle mayo sauce. The food came out quick and the waitress was very attentive and friendly. My friends and I purchased tickets for the Thanksgiving Eve event that this business advertised. We arrived and were told by the bouncer that we weren't allowed into the event because it was "at capacity", even though we had tickets that we spent $60 on. After waiting over an hour, we left and were told we wouldn't get a refund for the event we PAID for and weren't allowed into by the management. I'm in the process of working with EventBrite to receive a refund for this fraudulent event and will never return to this poorly managed establishment. Disgusted beyond words. read more

I had the grilled octopus and halibut special. My son had the nachos and Mac-n-cheese special. It was all meh or worse, with mediocre service, although our server was nice, and polite. The nachos were a queso blanco with some red peppers. Meh. The octopus was tender but it tasted like the grill was cold, so you tasted the Smokey oil, not any char. I had the Linguine Clam. Truly awful. 1) There's nothing worse than biting into sand while eating your pasta. These clams had mounds of sand; they were just filthy. Clams need to be purged of any sand before cooking. Basic stuff. 2) The pasta was way overcooked and all stuck together. Again, basic stuff. 3) The tables and chairs are too tightly positioned with other tables. Our table was at the patio next to the wall. The tables are so close to each other that my chair clanked against the chair of the person behind me. I was so close that I could smell her perfume throughout my entire meal. I understand that you want to maximize the amount of guests in a space, but the whole point of sitting at the outdoor patio is not to sit so close in proximity to other guests. We visited Stage House Tavern to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. We came for their Sunday buffet style brunch. The restaurant is large and tables can feel a bit far from the actual buffet...this wasn't the end of the world but its something to be aware of. Parking is plentiful in a large lot as this restaurant used to be a banquet hall in the past. The buffet is quite large and set up in a rectangle/square so that you can walk around the entire buffet in one circle. I don't think it's necessary to because you simply shouldn't plop all those kinds of foods on one plate. I usually do hot/cold on separate trips. There's no rush, staff re-fill the foods pretty frequently so you can just go back up when you want more or want to get something different. I recommend walking around the buffet once to get a look at everything before you get on line and plate anything down. This way, you don't fill up on the first things you see and try small amounts of everything first. This way, when you go for round two, you can try something different or more of something you really liked. I was pretty full after my second plate so I did not get a chance to try the personal pizzas or the carving stations. Next time I come, I will give those a try. The dessert area was nice but when I got back to it, the few desserts that were left were kind of crushed. I didn't want to wait to come back so I just took some crushed desserts. But, pleasantly, I was surprised that they were really good. Buffet comes with fresh squeezed orange juice; I was super amazed at how good the oj was! We ordered the French onion soup as our appetizer and it was okay, the crispy onions on top made the soup. For our main entree we ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich and the California burger. The highlight of both those meals were the fries. The chicken sandwich had no salt and lacked flavor. The burger was okay but could've been better. I was really disappointed in the food. read more

What a beautiful space for a bar/restaurant. I was invited by two friends from work to have lunch. It's family friendly so that was a plus, since I brought my 2 month year old. The restaurant is large with outdoor seating. We didn't get to sit outside since it was raining. The menu is large with a lot of American type dishes. They have a large lunch menu with various entrees from their main menu. They have an extensive beer and drink menu, next time I will definitely indulge. The lunch special is 14.95 with a choice of soup or salad and a entree. I ordered a Cesar salad and turkey club sandwich with fries off the lunch menu. My friends ordered the brisket sandwich and personal pan margarita pizza. The pizza was cheaper from the lunch menu, however when the bill came, the lunch special was charged but it was ok cause my friend asked for a salad to go. The portions are generous and my friends brisket was to die for. I hate pickles and the sandwich had them in it but it went well with the sauce. I'm ordering that next time for sure. I have had a lot of pizza in my young life, and here today comes the worst Margarita pizza I have ever eaten! First off, we had a big party, 11 people or so, so a bit of a wait makes sense. The hour wait after we ordered was not! The pizza came out, hard as a rock, banged it against the tin and it looked like I can use it as a percussion instrument. I wouldn't wish this pizza on my worst enemy. Thankfully, I did not partake in the ordering of the chicken and waffles, but my dear pal did, and lets just say I wouldn't feed it to my dog, and she eats crickets. I had to scrape the cheese off in fear of food poisoning, and the dough was undercooked and mushy. This place's pizza is a sin in the great state of Jersey jhit. I was extremely patient during the time of covid, and kept coming back. Business has been booming at this location for the last 12months and food product has still been less than subpar, using inferior product. I wasn't going to leave a poor review, but after having back to back underwhelming experiences, the consistency is making me. First of all I really want to love this please, it was highly recommended when I first moved to the area, and I really liked my experience coming during lunch time where I had the delicious lamb burger. However my multiple dinner experiences have not been good, at all. Service was god awful. It was not even very busy. It took 30 minutes to get our appitizers and an hour fifteen minutes to get our entrees. Typically I would blame the kitchen but my server's attentiveness wasn't the best, and corny jokes weren't making me any happier. Long story short, the food wasn't good enough to make up for the time wasted waiting so long for basic entrees. I've been going to the Scotch Plains Stage House Tavern for years so when I heard they opened a Stage House Tavern In Mountainside I had to check it out. It's located where the The Laffaire Restaurant and Catering Hall used to be on Rt 22 East . It's right down the road from Echo Tap Grille. First off when you pull in you see a huge parking lot. Good thing because this place is very big inside and was packed when I was there on 3//4/17 .The inside is one very large room with seating in the dining area for over 100 people. The bar is in the far corner. When I walked in I couldn't believe what a great job they did transforming this place. In the dining area there are live trees and plants all around which are individually lit up to give a nice ambiance and feel. The tables are all dark wood. The walls are a beige color. There is so much room to spread out. The band is near the bar on a large size stage. Plenty of room for dancing.. Flat screens all around and some high tops. The staff is very friendly. Some came from the Scotch Plains Stage House Tavern. I didn't eat but looked at their menu and it looks great. They serve rustic American style food and late night bar food. They have many specials all week long including ENDLESS RAVIOLI ON MONDAYS. TINI-TUESDAYS for $5.00. HAPPY HOUR IS EVERYDAY FROM 4-6 pm. THEY HAVE BANQUET ROOMS FOR PARTIES. I came to meet friends and see what all the hoopla was about...Like any new business it will take some time to workout the kinks . I have every confidence they will. For now they get 4 stars...On weekends this place is packed and has live music playing from 10p-1am, so if your looking for a quiet place this isn't it. If your looking for a fun time then by all means check it out....I saw many of my old neighbors from Mountainside, so I'm not surprised if this becomes a local hangout...Everyone was very happy and having a good time.. Eh it's a weird hybrid of sports bar and family-friendly restaurant inside a space that used to be a giant catering hall. Our experiences regarding the service here have ranged between "okay" and "fairly terrible." I was always on the fence about coming here and tonight probably was the last time. The food is nothing special and actually seems a bit overpriced for the area and for what it is. Service tonight was abysmal. There wasn't a wait for a table, so it wasn't packed, and it still took over a half hour to get four really simple dishes out to us. Even the initial drink order took almost 10 minutes to deliver, and the margarita my wife ordered was something that was not a margarita. We sent it back. Waitress did the customary "how is everything?" thirty seconds after the food finally arrived, and then proceeded to ignore us for the remainder of our time there. There are many better options within a 5-mile radius for generic food. Pick one. read more

Aside from the fact that it is massive and I think it looks like a converted bowling alley. I think they have everything you could possibly want in a local bar/ restaurant. Outdoor seating/ bar, huge bar with big TVs, decent beer selection, great drinks, many many tables/ seating options, and the most diverse menu I've probably ever seen. And the best part is everything on their menu is amazing. Service is always amazing and I've been here many times. I'm not sure how they manage to do that with such a big place. My wife and I with another couple visited on a Sunday evening for dinner. Judging by all the cars in the parking lot, we thought the restaurant was going to be crowded and gladly we were wrong. Don't forget this place used to be a catering facility so the restaurant is ginormous. There is a bar area with big screen TV's. There was plenty of seating. We began with the margherita pizza as an appetizer. Good enough and plenty for the table as an appetizer. I had the garden salad and it was very good. Large portion with just the right amount of balsamic vinaigrette. Our table had the St. Louis ribs which came with French fries, two orders of the cobb salad, and the grilled salmon. I thought the ribs were very good. The meat was tender and came off the bone easily. The fries were seasoned well but were stuck together. The ladies enjoyed their cobb salads and the grilled salmon was good. No dessert due to being stuffed. The service was passable and friendly. The waiter forgot one of our drinks and later forgot to provide us plates when the pizza came. The service improved after that. The prices were a bit high but I guess they have to pay the mortgage on a huge property like this. Plenty of parking. read more

After visiting this establishment I now understand the reviews. Like most people, I have been to the Stagehouse in Scotch Plains and enjoyed it. This place is too large, too loud, and too commercially. It reminded me of BBQ's or another large franchise in Time Square. It's impersonal and lacks authenticity. Can't complain about the service. Our waiter reminded me of The Situation from the Jersey Shore lol. But he was friendly and quick. The food was ok; I felt like the portions were smaller than the other restaurant but I'm not sure. I gave in and ordered dessert...if the brownie with vanilla ice cream is the best thing on the dessert menu then I don't want to try the other items. Just sayin'.
