He was a great driver, extremely knowledgeable about the area and wineries, and shared so much interesting information throughout the day. Another great perk was that lunch was included, which made the day even more enjoyable and convenient. A great little unexpected touch was a stop at a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar stand between wineries. It was such a nice addition to the day and made the tour feel even more personalized. We went to Solvang for a short vacation, just needed a getaway. We decided to go on a winery tour with Stagecoach and we were very pleased with it! Full disclosure we lucked out and it turned out we (my wife and I) were the only ones on the tour, it was on a Monday so I think things were slow for them. Tom picked us up at our hotel right on time and took us to 3 wineries. The first was smaller and the most remote (Cebada). It was smaller but the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Of course we bought a couple of bottles. The next winery was closer to Solvang (Brickbarn) and Tom gave us a tour of the facility, the vats etc... He's very knowledgeable about the winemaking process as well as the history of the area etc... Of course we bought a couple of bottles. The last winery was also a horse ranch (Bella Cavali). The host Jeff was great and very friendly. We got to tour the stables and say "Hi" to the horses. Of course we bought a couple of bottles! We then got dropped off back at our hotel and were pretty exhausted. It was a great experience and we highly recommend Stagecoach. read more

We were staying at a local resort for a wedding, so I was a little reticent about going on a wine tour, but I'm so glad we did. Tyler is a font of knowledge about the local viticulture -- and the perfect guide to the San Ynez Valley. Our group of four embarked upon a relaxed adventure with lots of excellent wine plus treasured opportunities to meet the vintners and understand their production process. It also is clear Tyler is well-respected because two out of the three places we visited are private vineyards, with esteemed histories and jaw-dropping scenery. Buyer beware! Read the fine print when purchasing your tour. I was about to book my wine tour online when I noticed the price jumped quite a bit. The tour description indicates a 12% gratuity is included plus a 3% processing fee. Upon checkout, the "included gratuity" was added again for a 15% upcharge instead of the 3% I expected to see. Having the right tour guide can make or break a wine tasting tour. However, for us, Eric not only set up an amazing tour, he gave us dining tips to help make the whole weekend amazing. From the start, Eric was open to our preferences. I have tasted often throughout the area, so wanted to try some new places that would appeal to me. Eric was helpful in identifying just the right wineries for our private tour. Our private tour consisted of three fantastic wineries and a picnic lunch. At each winery, we got special treatment and experienced some truly lovely wines. Along the way, Eric was kind enough to take group photos to help us capture our experience. Eric suggested SY Kitchen for dinner. Based on how well he chose the wineries, we quickly determined that we should take his advice on food, too. We made a reservation and had a fantastic dinner. Tom showed up in his Mercedes Sprinter bus, which was the classiest bus I've been on, though as Tom told us in full TOUR GUIDE MODE, it is European so it has lots of ash trays but no cup holders. Should I start by discussing Tom, the Cliff Claven of wine tours? Nah, I'll save it for later... Anyway, the sleek van looked as cool as it was comfortable. But, honestly, I was expecting a stagecoach. I know that sounds stupid to be so literal, as Jet Blue doesn't have blue jets, you can't get across town at a Subway, and I had no reason to unzip my pants at BJs, but you never know. They have windmills, horse-drawn carriages, and ostriches-- why not a stagecoach? Memorial Day 2016. We were lucky because we only had one other couple, from Pasadena, and they were cool, with a good sense of humor. The guy was very inquisitive, a little like the empty nest mom who keeps everyone in class late at night school... but it was to our advantage. STOP 1: BUTTONWOOD in Solvang. My wife and I have been three times before. Their wines aren't my favorite, but the tasting room is well-staffed with friendly pourers and the grounds are pretty with lots of photo ops, so it's an apt spot for a tour. You'll love their dump buckets! My review was basically, "Who would serve mediocre wines with a smile in a beautiful location? Buttonwood!" STOP 2: SANTA YNEZ WINE CLUB. I forget the name of the actual vineyard, but we met up with Gabriel and Jen under the shadiest tree near a pond for our next selection of low-production wine. All of the wines were special, especially the hard-to-pronounce Fiddleback Scherure. Unfortunately, you couldn't leave with any bottles, as they have to be shipped. And, be warned, outhouse only. LUNCH. Of the four locations for lunch, I would have preferred Roark because it was indoors (no flying pests), climate-controlled, and despite the cramped quarters, Roark seemed more like a homey banquet; however, it wasn't too hot and the bugs were at a minimum, and it was nice to eat in the breeze. We got sandwiches from New Horizons, and they were good. My Italian sandwich was filling, with spreadable mustard and mayo in containers rather than plastic pouches. The potato salad was good, surprisingly the celery wasn't bad, adding a crunch without being too celery-y. STOP 3: ROARK WINE CLUB in Buellton. After a quick tour of the funk zone, we parked in an industrial area for Roark and met the owner, a good ol' boy from Texas, charismatic and friendly, looking a little like Sam Worthington from Avatar. Though he didn't offer much of a tour, nor was he inclined, a tourmate (ha, autocorrect changed that to termite) was asking questions on how he presses and stores his wine and it was all very interesting. We sat at a long table surrounded by barrels, with a herding dog Mia poking her head between our legs looking for attention. His wines were very good to amazing, and he purposely didn't have descriptive tasting notes, for which I gathered were poetic reasons, not to influence one's interpretation. Or maybe his printer didn't work, who knows. Bonus: maybe it was his mood, our timing, or the curiosity of the termite, but he climbed onto some barrels and we were treated to two remarkable barrel tastings. He basically siphoned wine out into a turkey baster thing with his mouth. Of course, I'm sure my germaphobic wife was wanting him to gargle her hand sanitizer, but it was all good. STOP 4: BELLA CAVALIA in Solvang. A great way to end the tour. The lush grounds, used mostly to board horses, are beautiful and secluded. The host Jeff is extremely personable, relaxed, and interesting, both in his rich background and his winemaking experience, somehow both colorful and grounded. Like Roark, he enjoys the hands-on farming part of his job. And the wines are very special and delicious, lower in alcohol. He invited us to return for a tasting free of charge, though he's not open to the general public. Tom says that if we return we can pick and choose wineries, to avoid ones we've visited, or reach those we've desired, and it's not just a specific pattern to follow. And you get the feeling he knows them all. Tom is extremely knowledgable about wine (having been educated, and thirsty to learn more) and about the area (having been here a decade or so). He is very passionate and informative. My best advice, (and I only bring this up because it has come up in other reviews) is that he takes a pause in between his long 4 minute answers to give us all a chance to interject, ask more questions, etc. in order to have an actual give and take conversation. The Stagecoach tour we went on was awesome and disappointing at the same time. Let me explain. The wife and I got hooked up with the Stagecoach tour when we bought a wine and stay package through The Hadsten House. Usually we take turns when we're in wine country. I'll do more tastings one day and she'll drive and then we switch the next day. We were excited that we'd be able to go out to do some tastings and neither one of us would have to drive so we could enjoy as much as we'd like. The shuttle came to the hotel that morning to pick us up. It was a nice, big VW van that fit all five couples comfortably. We took off to our first stop, Pence Winery. Pence Winery was only about 10 minutes west of the hotel in Buellton. We pulled up there were a handful of lazy rhodesian ridgebacks that noticed us pull in. Some looked up and then put their heads back down, others didn't seem to care and one or two came over to say hi. You could tell this winery/farm was a relaxing spot that was going to be a great first start. We looked around for a quick second before the nice wine tasting lady came over to welcome us and get us our first sip of wine. Great start! The wines were VERY nice here. They drove us around the property to see the grapes and explain everything about their operations. It was very interesting and informative. We enjoyed all of our tastes but didn't purchase anything. The most affordable bottle of wine we tasted at Pence was ~$28. After Pence, we stopped by the lavender shop for an opportunity to buy some lotions, soaps and other lavender scented items. This was the first time my wife and I looked at each other and said, "Uh, I'm losing what little buzz I got from Pence." We joked to each other that we needed to hurry this party up. Our second stop was Bella Cavalli. This was another great farm that had tons of horses everywhere. We got the chance to see the stables, meet the family that produced the wine, and enjoy our Stagecoach-provided lunch. We decided to purchase a white wine (can't remember which) due to it being a little more affordable. We were still pretty much stone sober after two stops and lunch. The next stop was right across the street at Loring Wine Co and Cargasacchi. This was our favorite. The tasting room was a cozy little wooden spot. They were a little more liberal with the tastings and they offered a LOT of different wines. I honestly have to say nothing was bad at Loring/Cargasacchi. You could tell that even the wines that weren't your favorite style of wines were still high quality. We bought two bottles here. The trip finished with a spot by a lake near Kalyra Winery (there's pictures posted of the lake). There was a couple of tables set up by this beautiful lake off the beaten path a little. The setting was beautiful. It was a man and a woman that had a club called The Santa Ynez Wine Club. The SYWC represented super small wine makers that couldn't really afford a marketing team, sales guys, and the like. They poured us 5 wines, one of which was sparkling (my fav!). We didn't so much care for the wines they were selling but the experience made up for it. After that, we headed back to the hotel. When my wife and I stepped off the bus, we both looked to each other and said, "I totally could drive right now. I have NO buzz." While some people reading this might think, "Where's the problem?" we were excited to get a little silly together, catch a buzz, and be safe because we had a driver. We even thought about buying a bottle of wine to enjoy on the bus, but I wasn't about to buy a $45 bottle of Pinot Noir to "consume rapidly" in order to catch a buzz on the tour. The bottom line about Stagecoach Tours: The guide was very friendly and crazy knowledgeable. Most of the wine was quite good. The experience was high quality. BUT, if you want to use this tour as a DD to party a little bit, I don't think this is the tour for you. read more

Kurt was the man! Both my wife and I are wine novices, but Kurt educated us both beyond all expectations. His knowledge of wine and the region was unbelievable. We were met at our hotel a little ahead of schedule (we both appreciate it when things happen on time!) and were whisked away with another couple to four separate wineries. A group of 9 of us enjoyed a wine tour weekend courtesy of Kelly from Stagecoach Company Wine Tours. We were all staying at Pea Soup Andersen's Inn and had arranged to be picked up from there at 10:45am to begin our wine tour. On the dot, Kelly arrived with a huge passenger van that was both roomy and clean. I noticed the large basket of water bottles upfront along with 2 boxes that held each of our wine glasses for the tour. She was personable and efficient and gave us some tidbits about the area and the wineries we were each visiting. The lunch that was included was perfect...not too heavy, yet filling. We stopped and ate at the 2nd winery, Bella Cavalli, which consisted of individual pre-packed cheeses, olives, cherry tomatoes, turkey and salami slices, grapes, and a mini loaf of crusty french bread (super cute). I've done wine tasting on my own with other friends before but now after having the convenience and knowledge of taking an actual wine tour, I'd prefer to do it this way in the future. Kurt was a great driver and host. He told us all about the local area and about the different wineries, etc. He's got some jokes, too. I like how they provide wine glasses for each participant (though you can't keep them) and he rinses and dries them after each tasting room visit. At each tasting room, Kurt explained the winery's varieties and traditions as well as some tips on tasting and purchasing wines. The tour provides a hefty boxed lunch, too. We both had a huge turkey on ciabatta. It was big enough that we split one boxed lunch and took one to go. Our wine tasting experience was phenomenal. Rhonda was our tour guide for our couple's winery tour. She is customer-centric and changed the last stop on our tour after listening to our tastes in wines as we visited each winery. Rhonda has phenomenal knowledge about the wines, wineries in the area and will also share the history of the area as well as information on the people who live there. Sunstone has a sunny atmosphere, gorgeous views and phenomenal wines. They also have customer reps who can answer questions about the wines. Our favorite winery is Bella Cavalli which limits the people who can visit. Stagecoach is the only tour that can visit the property. Bella Cavalli Farms makes their own olive oil and barbecue sauce in addition to the winery. The horse farm includes a therapeutic center with state of the art technology. The owners took us around and also poured our wine samples, a personal touch you rarely see. We also received a tour of the horse stables. read more

Went on the wine tour this weekend with some friends it was fun. They took us to some pretty nice wineries that I've never been to which I enjoyed. This tour cost more than the other ones that I've been on so I was a bit disappointed in the lunch which just consisted of a sandwich and some celery I guess here you have to pay extra for chips and a cookie which I got included on my other .The wineries really are not pouring much wine anymore, literally like a sip. This is no fault of the wine tour but maybe they can talk to the wineries because if I can't really taste the wine I'm not going to buy anything this was the first wine tour I've ever done where I did not buy one bottle of wine. read more

My boyfriend and I went on a tour with stage coach Friday 10/12/12 for his 27th birthday. We were definitely not disappointed, Laura was our tour guide she was very sweet and welcoming from the moment we go into her suv. It was just 4 people total in our tour group so we were able to have an intimate experience. Laura explained to us that stage coach specializes in boutique wineries most your not able to find in store! We went to 4 wineries in total I don't remember the 1st winery (it wasn't that great) the 2nd winery on the other hand was fantastic it was Mosby it's an Italian winery we got a bottle of sauvignon blanc all the labels for the wines were designed by the same man who designed for channel :) The 3rd winery was my favorite Bella cavalli apparently this is a private winery you can't purchase there wine any where but the winery and you can only do a tasting if you are a member or your on a stage coach tour :) we had our lunch here literally in the owners front yard I had the wine lovers lunch assorted cheeses, meats, olives, and bread it was fantastic my boyfriend had the turkey sandwich that was great as well. What I loved about this winery was our host he's the property owners grand father he was very welcoming and had a heavy hand with his pouring ;) the property is also a horse ranch so after our lunch he took us all on a tour of the horse stables! We purchased a bottle of Sauvignon blanc here as well and some home made BBQ sauce. The fourth winery I can't recall it's name but it was a fun quirky winery with fun artwork here we had a delicious cupcake and wine pairing it was fantastic! An amazing tour in every way. Tom was our guide and he is prompt, knowledgeable, funny and absolutely attentive. He picked us up right on time and jumped straight into it all. On the road there he talked about the city and all its history, and once we arrived to the vineyard his knowledge was even more so impressive. The private vineyards that are chosen to take you around are fabulous and everyone is so nice and cheery. Tom even heard the group talking about their love for the movie grease and when we got back to the sprinter he so lovingly played the show tunes for us to all badly sing along too haha, it was great. I would recommend this tour over any other because included is your lunch, your tasting fees and your own personal guide in an intimate group of 9 and it's worth every penny. read more

Kellly was a wonderful tour guide. She answered all of our questions and helped us look for answers on some that was beyond her expertise. She even recommended a few places to eat.....those recommendations were superb! Stagecoach is the way to go when you want to do wine tasting and not worry about driving back to your hotel. read more
