First visit - Ron Faiola's Wisconsin Supper Clubs book brought us to the Stagecoach Inn. Super fun visit started at the bar with a couple of Wisconsin Classics - Brandy Old Fashioned, delicious. This place bustles with energy - from the greeting to the table service - everyone is on the move, some of the best teamwork I've witnessed in the food service business - congratulations for creating a wonderful dining experience. I have the pork tenderloins, cheeseburger soup, au gratin potatoes, house salad, and it all started with warm bread and the "salad tower". Fun presentation and delicious food. She had the deep fried shrimp and a baked potato - both delicious. We loved our visit, the serving team made us feel welcome and well treated, the food was delicious, and the locals provided us with great "color" on the history of the supper club...clearly the Stagecoach has earned the right to be included as one of Wisconsin's classic supper clubs - Enjoy your next visit, we sure did. read more

This place was the biggest disappointment. I'm pretty sure the only reason they stay in business is nostalgia... and cataracts. The food was bland and my steak tasted off. I mean off as in old. It was horrible and a waste of money. The relish tray definitely contained a few items that were prepared more than a week ago. It was just gross. We will never be back. read more

OK, now if we were in a more metropolitan setting Stagecoach would not have a five star review, BUT this restaurant is a quintessential Wisconsin supper club AT ITS BEST. Long ago it had a different name, but that's about all that has changed. Sean, the owner, has updated the inside, but just enough so that the original cozy, family friendly atmosphere remains. When I was very very young this place actually had a piano and a woman named Vicky singing "Hello Dolly"!!! Stagecoach is a Wisconsin MUST. Saturday night prime rib is excellent however, for my taste it needs some seasoning. The au jus suffers from lack of seasoning as well, it's almost beef broth. Everything else is spot on for the traditional Wisconsin supper club. The brandy old fashions were very good and the bartenders have the mix down pat. The staff knows how to heard the guests thru as once seated, the food and drink come at a rapid pace. The price for the meal could actually be raised by a few$$ and I'm certain it would not impact business negatively. Just a great place to go! read more

We stopped by Stagecoach Inn for the first time Friday night. We had heard, and read, wonderful things and the restaurant lived up to the hype! The owner and waitstaff were incredibly accommodating to us, as we had two small children (and a baby) in tow. They made us feel welcome and both kids had fun and a great meal. I do NOT understand all the 4 and 5 star ratings. Really? I don't get it. The waitress was very nice. There was no relish tray, other tables had them. We did not. The rolls are not homemade, barely even warmed up. The steaks were undercooked and bland. Watch a cooking show... SALT, SEASON... these steaks had none. Bland, bland, bland. My husbands steak was raw, not rare, certainly not the med rare we ordered, but raw. The salad was nothing more than what you buy at Wal-Mart and pour out of a bag. Throw a tablespoon of dressing right in the middle, call it good. The au gratin potatoes everyone seems to rave about, I tried them based on Yelp postings. Yeah, no. They were nothing more than the box mix with a slice of prepackaged wrapped cheese thrown over the top. If I Betty Crocker box potatoes and a slice of Kraft American, I can stay home and do that. I don't expect to pay almost $40 for it. The atmosphere was actually pretty. The bar looked very nice. The dining room was small but it was comfortable. I doubt I'll ever go back. I know I would never suggest to someone to go there. I did text a friend that eats out very often, lives somewhat nearby, she said she feels the same way but sadly for me she didn't answer my text until we were almost done with dinner. Had she given me her opinion prior to going there, I would have driven past. I suggest others do the same as well. read more

This was a really hard one to rate, Yelpers. There is so much that I love, love, love about it, but also so much that just didn't do it for my personal taste. In the end, I had to rate for me, but hope that you consider all the reasons you might love it. So, for me: I don't like seafood. Any seafood. I tried a crab cake once that was okay, but that's where my tolerance bottoms out. I like steak, but I like it well done. I stopped ordering steaks while out long ago when I noticed that most waitstaff seemed to take personal offense to my request. Being an old-school Wisconsin supper club, these two limits knocked out 95% of the menu for me. I got the fried chicken. It was good! It had the crispiest coating I've ever encountered (my guess is that it is actually broasted), which was great but also made eating it a bit tough as I wasn't going to use my hands and only had a butter knife to try to dig into it with. The problem was compounded by there being very little meat on the bone, but the upside is that it pointed to the chicken being local and farm-raised as opposed to pumped up with hormones until it resembled Schwarzenegger-like proportions. I got the au gratin potatoes for side and they were pretty delicious, though nothing fancy. Instead of the traditional relish tray most supper clubs offer, the Stagecoach brings a choice of four salads whose origins must be from the 50s - there was a Pepto-pink creamy beet salad, peas and cheese in a mayo-based dressing, a three-bean salad, and spicy corn salad that was the winner of the group. That being said, none of them made me want to dig in past a bite or two. So - am I plotting my return trip? No. I still think you should give it a chance, though, if a traditional menu appeals to you. What did I like about the Stagecoach? First, if you blindfolded me, put me on a couple of planes, drove me around for awhile, and then took off my blindfold inside I'd have no doubts I was in Wisconsin. The supper club will always live on here, and I love that we keep its tradition alive. The staff are all friendly, and I loved that the bartender knew nearly every patron at the bar. In true supper club fashion, there was a wait for a table and we were encouraged to enjoy a drink or two while we waited. The bartenders addressed people by name, and often just had their drink ready to go without an order. The Stagecoach was packed, and the family I went with told me that there are several patrons who eat there literally every day. While the menu isn't for me, a lot of people seem to love it. If I lived nearby, I'd probably make it a pretty regular stop as a watering hole. Unrelated to the food or service, the restaurant gets bonus points for the sign out front being cute as a button. So, while it was a three-star night for me, the idea of the Stagecoach gets five. read more

Come hungry, cuz they give you a lot of food. This is a Wisconsin supper club at its finest. Meals start with the rolls and variety of bean and pasta salads. (Not a huge lover of that but classic supper club.) I had the perch fish fry which was very good and lots of food. Atmosphere inside is great. A bit deceptive from the outside as it appears run down with a sign that barely works. Did you know that some restaurants are closed on Sunday nights near Janesville, WI? We wanted a more upscale restaurant than a chain, but quickly found out there aren't a lot of options in that area. We had our choices narrowed down to three, and we chose the Stagecoach Inn. That turned out to be wise. We drove for 11 miles, wondering what it would be like...we had discussed not going in if it looked uninviting. Much to our surprise, it looked nice....AND, the parking lot was full, always a good sign. Inside, it was a cozy, woody, rustic restaurant with a large bar. We ordered an assortment of dinners. The prices were reasonable and there were some extras - like a relish tower....beets, macaroni salad, bean salad, corn salad. Very nice touch.The dinners came with bread and salad(don't know why, but my lettuce was limp, though acceptable). One of us had onion soup, which was good. The portions are large. The mushrooms fresh. The drinks were great. This is a must try destination. You will get a filling meal - comfort food, pleasant service, and value for your money. We will return the next time we are in the area. Even though I can't give it a 5, based on all the restaurants I've been to, I am very sure that it is a 5 in the area. I like the atmosphere and the food is ok. Servers are nice. For the price I expect more. The salad could have something besides head lettuce. The walleye was prepared well but was very bland. The NY strip was a poor cut with a lot of grissle. The filet was very nice. Relish tray could have used some cheese spread. Rolls were not fresh. 1st time at the stage coach inn. very disappointing. To be sure the wait staff was spot on. However, the salads were warm, the salad dressing was almost hot as if it sat under a heat lamp.The bread basket contained all stale products from bread sticks to rolls. The relish tray was also warm and watery and tasted days old. By the time the last cracker was open we did not even want dinner as it took an hour for chicken and two steaks. Food terrible, staff wonderful but no cigar. I still spent $55 on a limp bread basket, two cocktails and warm salads. Invest in a better kitchen flow to accomodate the awesome wait staff and maybe things could really be wonderful. read more

Have been dining here for many years. I have never ever had a bad steak. My job asks me to travel around the country and I will tell you that their steaks are an A+. The staff is friendly and very efficient. Drinks are not over priced. I am glad we live close and can go here several times. This establishment was supposed to be the place to go for a great supper club experience. We traveled over an hour to get there and were completely disappointed! It started off bad when the host would not give us a wait time after we arrived. The host was very rude and almost sent the message that he did not want us there. They state no reservations for parties under 5 people but as new people arrived who came in after us they were seated. Thinking this was a one off situation we waited one hour with no updates on our table status. When we approached the host asking how much longer it would be, he still refused to tell us. We asked where we were on the list and as he reluctantly answered he dropped a stack of small notes from his hand with names on them. This apparently was the waiting list? The papers were strewn all over the floor and in no order. We were asked to get a drink and go outside and wait while we continued to watch new people come in and get seated ahead of us. It became apparent that the pope who were seated were locals that our not so friendly host knew and gave them priority over us. After over an hour waiting and feeling like we were not an "important" customer we left to another local restaurant where we were greeted and had a great meal. In summary, avoid this place at all costs as they treat frequent customers over anyone else's and are rude in the process. They obviously don't need new business! Many other better places to give your heard earned money to than this joint. read more

Quintessential Wisconsin supper club. Food was all delicious although not many options for a vegetarian other than appetizers. We used to go here all the time. I always liked it more than my husband. Looking back, I probably always had a filet and their steaks were always pretty good. To start, we waited at the hostess station for at least 5 minutes. Lots of staff grabbing stuff, but not one of them acknowledged us. Tonight I chose fried walleye and my husband had their baked walleye. We started off with the salad. Iceberg w/ 1 tiny piece of carrot and a couple small strips of red cabbage. That's it. The lettuce was browning and they didn't have even croutons. I think even McDonald's has croutons on their salads. My husband opened a stale breadstick. Then we got the meals. The waitress asked how the meal was before we took a bite, then said she'd be back to see how it was. My potato could have used another 10 minutes in the oven. My fried walleye was okay. It was just bland. I was really hungry. My husband's walleye looked very unappetizing. It had what appeared to be a little bit of paprika on it. It was served on a white plate, a tiny piece of lettuce w/ a half canned pear and 3 lemon wedges. It was barely warm and neither plate had that "flaky" thing going on that fish should have. We kept an eye out for the waitress since she was going to be right back to see how the food was to ask if she could have it heated. I had 2 bites left before she came back. No one asked how my meal was or I would have said something there. It was mediocre at best and now I understand why I always had to convince hubby to go there. It was a little busy, but they had quite a few wait staff so that is not an excuse. read more

Came in on prime rib night. Service, atmosphere, and food did not dissapoint. Great cocktails before dinner, lots of locals attest to the solid performance. Great to find a place with local feel. Best to call ahead and make reservations. Prime rib lacked the classic outer crust, but perfect medium rare, king cut filet was the hands down winner, incredible and perfectly cooked, at least four inches thick and didn't butterfly to get it medium rare, ribeye ordered rare and was! Usually get medium rare when ordering rare other places. Sean does a masterful job in the kitchen. Don't pass up a Grasshopper for dessert, a real treat. The Stagecoach in Milton, WI has been a family favorite of ours for years, The filet mignon are second to none. The relish tray features homemade, old fashioned salads. I was going to write a bad review but changed my mind because the owner said he would make things right...and he did!! We came here 2 hours before we got seated. The waitress gave us menus and asked us to order before we got a table. (Good gesture because we then had our food right away when we were seated) At the time we ordered, we were told the prime rib was out. Ugh...it's 7:30pm and you are already out of your special? Darn, that's what we came for from Rockford, IL because we heard the prime rib special with shrimp was really good! We then asked if we could put a ribeye with shrimp (almost same as the special substituting ribeye for prime rib) the waitress said no and so did the owner and walked away. The owner then came to us 10 min later and asked how he could make things right. I thought that was an awesome gesture!! He made things VERY right and we were all happy! So all in all...to me that's excellent customer service and on top of it...the food was delicious!! Thanks for making us smile in the end!! It was a long wait but worth it. read more
