My favorite winery in Napa Valley! Unfortunately they were completely booked up for tours when we were planning to go, but we were able to make a reservation for their estate tasting. First off, INCREDIBLE service. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and our server was down to earth and joking around with us our entire time there. Since we were unable to book a tour, he also gave us a quick rundown of the history and workings of the winery. We told them we were celebrating our anniversary when we made our tasting reservation, and they gave us their best outdoor seating, facing directly into the vineyards so we could enjoy the beautiful scenery. They also have special 'Happy Anniversary' menus, which I thought were a cute little touch! I believe there are officially around 5 wines included in the tasting, but they really take care of you and listen to the feedback you have on which wines you liked best, and they end up bringing out more wines for you to try based on your tastes. I definitely had more wine than I expected to (haha) I'm definitely coming back, and I'll be going on a tour next time! We called to make a reservation the day before our arrival and were able to secure a reservation for the next day at 11 for 5 people. The vineyard is beautiful. We arrived on time but they weren't quite ready for us so they offered us a glass of "waiting white wine." Yes please!! We waited for about 10 minutes then we were taken to our table outside. There we were provided with some water and a brief introduction to the winery. The tasting itself is $45. You can opt for the standard tasting which goes from white to red or you can opt for all red. I went with the all red. The wines are pretty spectacular. If you sign up fir the wine club they will waive 4 tasting fees. The wine club does offer several perks which are great, make sure you ask about them. It's a beautiful place to spend a couple hours. I'd highly recommend it. read more

Only read about this winery. Finally had a chance to check the place out. Had reservations for 2 on Sunday afternoon. Upon walking in, the indoor tasting area was crowded and loud. Lucky for us after about 15 minutes almost everyone else's tasting ended. I really enjoyed the floor the ceiling windows. Excellent view of the vineyards. We had the standard 4 glass tasting with the Chardonnay, 2019 fay, fay hillside, and slv. All the reds were young and too tannic for me. Then our host (Liz) brought out some older cask 23's. Next thing you know I dropped $$$$ for the older wines and became a member. Never understood why wineries always pour you to "soso" stuff in the beginning. Good job Liz. read more

I made a reservation for 4 people to have a tasting on a Saturday via their email. They only had one availability left, so i recommend making a reservation early since i made our reservation about 2-3 weeks in advance. Upon arrival, we were given a complimentary wine while waiting for our table. we were seated pretty promptly, so it gave us a minute or two to just walk around the inside of their building and see the indoor tasting area and the great view from the inside. We got seated outside and got a lovely outdoor view of the vineyards. Each of us did the estate collection tasting flight for $45, which came with 1 white and 3 reds. one of our friends is allergic to red wines, so they substituted her reds for whites. I think they only had 4 white wines total on their menu, so she got to try all of them (but they're significantly cheaper in cost, so kind of a let down for her since she couldn't try the nicer wines). Overall, it was a lovely time and the weather was perfect. I wish they had food for you to partake of (like cheese or charcuterie) so that you're not just downing alcohol, esp for those who are light weights. hahaha. parking was super easy since there's a big lot and plenty of parking spaces. read more

On a whim, we drove through Napa on the way back from the solar eclipse in Aug 2017 and wanted to find a picturesque winery to do a tasting. Stag's leap was a great pick! Call ahead for a reservation. Even on a Monday, we were lucky to have gotten a last-minute reservation for 1:30 for 6 of us. The coordinator who answered was exceptionally nice. Our wine tasting was delicious. Carissa was our host for the day and took great care of us, offering up all sorts of information about the different methods in planting, trellising, etc. When we purchased bottles of wine, Carissa overheard that we were flying later that day and provided bubble-wrap covers. What used to be the lesser travelled Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley, is getting bigger and more populated each time we visit. Thankfully, the trail still manages to embody a more understated, wine country charm than the better known Hwy 29 extravaganza that parallels it to the west. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, frequently confused with Stags' Leap Winery (their neighbor with whom they had a very litigious past over the similarity of their names), is one of those. It should not be missed. There is no appointment necessary here, and the vibe is warm, welcoming, and oozing of immodest pride. The 4 options for tasting and/or cave tour range from $25 to $95. I believe the fee was waived for our $40/pp Estate Collection tasting upon making a purchase. December 2015: Surrounded by red and gold autumnal vineyards and a rocky palisades backdrop, we entered the dramatic, stone faced Visitors' Center. Proudly mounted and encased in glass at the entry was a bottle of *the* Cabernet Sauvignon that rocked the entire wine world in 1976. By winning (for the first time in California's history) the well deserved, number one spot in a very prestigious Paris wine competition, it is the pride and joy of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Stepping further inside is the elegant Great Room, a stunning tasting room with large, stony flying buttresses supporting glorious windows that render a unique estate view that will take your breath away. The interior is enhanced with hammered copper sconces, shimmering quartzite floors, and tables of sparkling crystal glassware (was it Riedel?) poised to start your first pour. After tasting a more recent release of the estate grown Fay Cabernet Sauvignon, which we instantly loved, we overheard murmurs of a most extraordinary lot that was even better, older, and nearly sold out. The secret stash was an exceptional Cab blend, called the Fay Golden Rectangle, not mentioned in any of the tasting lists. This Fay wine is so unique there is no vintage printed on the label. The explanation is this, they continually bottle, adding new to old, ever changing the balance and characteristics of their Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot blend, ever embodying the best of the best. No vintage is identifiable because it encompasses too many years. This was the wine we purchased. We got a wine club membership at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars that day. No hesitation and strictly because of the Fay Golden Rectangle. We now have a medallion that identifies us as a club member and entitles us to certain perks. A great winery, this is a beautiful showplace that you should allow to interrupt your casual drive along the trail, even if you care not to imbibe. The wines were all wonderful, And I wanted all of wines, But I choose best one that I felt. It's FAY. However He told us to get two wines because It waive tasting fee. $25 for the collection tasting flight or $40 for the estate collection tasting flight? Duh. When you add up the total cost of the 4 bottles in the estate collection, it amounts to $545 versus $160 for the collection for the collection flight. Respectively, the bottles in the estate collection are $50, $125, $125 and $245. So, it's well worth the extra $15 to go big. I also appreciate that they actually gave me 4 clean glasses prior to the tasting rather than giving me just 1 glass and letting my taste buds get all confused between samplings. My sommelier knew her stuff, including all about the Judgment of Paris (look this up if you're going here or thinking about which vineyards to hit). These people did America proud in the 70s and made the French look life fools. They sell copies of a book that talks all about it. After the tasting, I moved on to another vineyard, but couldn't help but to go back and buy a bottle of the 2012 Merlot from the collection tasting ($45/bottle). If they try to talk you into buying their $75 wine case that you can check in with your luggage at the airport, the cheapest place you can supposedly buy them in the Valley is at Grgich Hills Estate in Oakville for $50. For what it's worth, even Amazon's prices are around the same range at Stag's Leep so it might be worth your while if you plan on buying wine to take home. It's only worth it if you're going to stuff it with 12 bottles though. read more

OVER HYPED but a great place to start getting smashed. (3 stars) WINE FOR BREAKFAST. The landscape of the vineyard is very nice. Great backdrop for photos. Upon entry, two staff members and alot of people - understaffed. We went for the "Napa Valley Collection Tasting Flight" for $15 per person. There were NO cheese or crackers at this vineyard, so do expect getting hungry as the staff bore you to death with the history of each wine. 2011 SAVIGNON BLANC - sensual tropical notes of orange blossom, peach, cantalope, and grapefruit evolve to a crisp edge with bright acidity and lush flavors of peach, guava and melons on the finish. The description sounds great but the taste did not mount up to it. Some of us liked it and some of us did not. 2012 KARIA CHARDONNAY - aroma's of fresh cut honey crisp apples , citrus, toasted vanilla bean and hints of poached comice pear and lillac follow flavors of ripe apple and delicate oak notes. The was my favorite of all the tastings on this menu. it had a really nice and balanced flavor that went down very smoothly. AND after we found out what "karia" meant, all of us now want to name our future daughter that name. (LOL inside joke). Lady left the bottle at our table and we decided to pour own "tasting" and had ourselves a good time. 2010 MERLOT - autumnal red fruit lift its 'bouquet of sugar plum and fig, mingled with tabacco, sage, and vanilla. Soft and rich black cherry chocolate expand to blueberry and baked spices. I enjoy merlot but not merlot where the after-taste reminds me of an ASH TRAY. 2011 ARTEMIS CABERNET SAUVIGNON - this Cabernet S offers pleasing aromas of black cherries, red plums, violets, nutmeg, and sandalwood along with a hint of dry herbs. Came here on a beautiful saturday and just beat the rush. The hostess was super sweet and amicable when getting our name. Off to a good start. We decided to sit outside. There are two flights: Estate Collection Tasting Flight - $30 - It has 1 Chardonnay and 3 Cabs. The Arcadia Chardonnay didn't really taste like a Chardonnay, which is good because I don't particularly enjoy them. The cabs were all very very good. I particularly enjoyed the FAY and we walked out with a bottle of that one. Napa Valley Collection Tasting Flight - $15 - 1 Sauvignon Blanc, 1 Chardonnay, 1 Merlot, 1 Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall this flight was decent, but none of them particularly stood out for me. If you enjoy reds, pay the premium and go with the other flight. If you enjoy lighter drinks, this is a decent flight. The wording for how to apply your flight to a bottle is very very tricky and must be read carefully, especially after drinking wine. "One tasting fee will be credited towards the purchase of two 750ml bottles or more in the tasting collection you enjoyed." The fee will go towards a bottle of one of the ones from the flight respectively. You must purchase two bottles. Finally, Elisa was super awesome. She was funny, charming, and very knowledgeable. She brought out some of the winery's dirt for us to play with. We were never rushed, she did her job and tried to get us to join the wine club, but we declined. Still walked out with a bottle. Enjoyable all around. Recommended! **We didn't come here to get drunk. We came here legitimately for tasting wine, so if you're here to get drunk, it'll be fairly expensive. read more

This is probably one of the priciest tasting in the Valley but it involves some of the best wine made here. For red lovers you can sample some of the best wines costing nearly $300 for a fraction. I failed at the planning so when the ladies and I got turned around from another vineyard... and since I've been curious to try this place out... I figured a call would suffice to see if they require reservations and if they're allowing walk-ins... and the lady on the phone was not only friendly but very helpful. The location was gorgeous... freezing but very nice ambiance. I loved the setting of the tasting and the staff were friendly all throughout. The ladies and I opted to do the $40 tasting... I forgot what they called it as but it was all Cabernet Sauv. Their pours were a bit on the small stingy side... but I'll let it go. My two friends were loving it! I'm more of a Pinot gal but I was able to enjoy it... was a fan of their Fay... for sure! It's in competition with Caymus :) Will probably bring thr bro here since he loves the Cab Sauv... didn't get a bottle this time out but probably will on the next visit. read more

When performing my MOH duties, I made sure a trip to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was included in our Napa bachelorette vacation. We did the Estate Collection Tasting Flight which includes the Cask 23, FAY, and S.L.V, which are all fantastic. Our sommelier had such a welcoming personality and was very knowledgable of each wine and the history of Stag's Leap. All of the girls loved visiting the winery and grounds and loved the wine even more. My first visit to Stag's Leap winery last Saturday was lovely! Upon arriving in the parking area, a large plot of groomed prairie grass globes, planted in perfect rows led me to the tasting room, the landscaping was unique and I wondered if the this species of grass was "drought resistant." I was seated in a private tasting room with my neighbors who wanted to experience Stag's Leap wines for the first time too! The room to the right of the front door, it has large glass doors with views of the hillside vineyards. Later our wine educator Nicki, pointed out where the grapes for the FAY (named after the grape grower who established the vineyard in 1961) and S.L.V.( Stag's Leap Vineyard planted in 1970) are grown, viewed on the hillsides from our room. The wines we tasted were all reds, Cabernet Sauvignon. We tasted from the three estate-grown Cabernets- CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. My favorite was S.L.V. until the 2014 CASK 23 estate was offered, which then stole the show. I'd say it was one of the best red wines I have ever tasted. I savored it for probably 10 minutes, wishing I could have the bottle for myself and my wife! Only $275 a bottle. I will return to this Winery again anagain, perhaps even join the wine club, b/c the wines are that good! Bonus, it's not far from home. There was a 20 minute wait but they gave us a tasting that we were able to bring outside to the patio that was overlooking the vineyard and mountains.. As part of our recent trip to Napa, the wife made a reservation to tour the stags leap wine cellars. This is a great property. We were fortunate enough to also bring our dogs onto the property since they have a winery dog, "Sadie". One thing i like about the tour was that they explained a lot about the cover crops they use in the vine fields and all throughout the property. The best thing is that employees get to harvest the crops or they go into the local jams that they sell or include as samples for the wine club. Overall the price pt of the wine is very reasonable, and the wine club obligations are moderate and manageable. The wife and i dont drink a lot but thought it would be worth it for gifts or just to bring to a dinner with friends. read more

I was first introduced to Stags' Leap Wine Cellars in Napa, California with their Artemus cabernet wines in 2003, with a later visit to the vineyards where I was introduced​ to CASK 23, from the same grapevines that won the best red category in the 1976 Judgement of Paris against such French nobility wines as Château Mouton-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, and Château Montrose. We were very lucky to be squeezed into a precious tasting spot on short notice. First of all, they were observing all COVID protocol. My only previous visit to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was in August 1983. Things have changed enormously in the last 35+ years including the location of the tasting room. On that visit, the petite syrah varietal became my very favorite wine, and Stags Leap was exceptional. They no longer produce the varietal and focus on cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. Our host was absolutely delightful and knowledgeable - clearly educated about wine and learning the business. Enjoyed sharing wine stories. We were able to taste about 6 wines. I would have been very happy buying a case of any of these wines, but my budget won't hold up, so we ended up buying a few bottles of the wines we were not able to taste at the winery. I would come back here in a flash. Worth the $50 tasting fee per flight. You know it's good if I will spend that much on a tasting!!!! read more

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a classic Napa winery with rich history. Stag's Leap was famously known for putting Napa and California Cabs on the world wine map, beating French cabs at the 1976 Judgment of Paris competition! My husband, in laws, and I visited the new Stag's Leap tasting room, and were awe-struck by how beautiful the views were from inside! Compared to the original Stag Leap's winery back in the day that was a small and barn-like tasting room, their new tasting room was modern with floor to ceiling windows and views of the mountains. My family and I ordered 4 rounds of the Estate Tasting Collection Flight at $45 per tasting for: -2015 Arcadia Vintage Chardonnay -2014 Fay Cabernet Sauvignon -2014 SLV Cabernet Sauvignon -2014 Cask23 Cabernet Sauvignon -A few more pours not listed in the menu! $45 per tasting was not cheap, but the prices were worth the value of the wines and rich history of Stag's Leap. This is the place to go if you're visiting Napa. The tasting room overlooks an enormous vineyard juxtaposed against the countryside. This winery put Napa on the map in the 70's and is known for their Cab Savs. Staff is accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. If you love quality wine and a view, this is your place. read more

As a former member, taking guests to Stag's Leap used to be one of our favorite things to do. Admittedly, it's been a couple of years since I was last there, but the differences were large and truly disappointing. The new tasting room is lovely, to be sure, but the warm ambiance and enthusiasm of the past has been replaced by a colder, more cookie-cutter approach. Our server appeared to be completely disinterested in our presence, only stopping by to pour the next wine or take payment after long pauses in between. Worst of all, the wines simply weren't as good as we've experienced in the past. There was virtually no difference in the FAY and SLV, and the Cask 23 was lacking the depth and nuance from previous years. At $45 per tasting, we were expecting a much better experience than we received. Sadly, we won't be returning to this winery until something significant changes. read more

A gorgeous winery in the Napa Valley. It's bigger than many and famous for its award winning wine. It's a winery with history and worth visiting. Book your tastings here as it's quite popular. The staff were very accommodating and were able to do a tasting for us in a hurry and in short space if time. The guy who helped us was very nice and friendly and understood that we were in a hurry. Happily come here again another time and try some more wines and get a bit of the story as well. read more

Came in for a quick tasting! I would recommend tasting on their patio - stunning views. We had their estate collection tasting which was great. Delicious, fruit-forward, and silky textured wines. Definitely worth stopping by as it is an iconic Napa Valley winery that helped put California on the map for wine. Our host was Bryan and he was kind enough to let us taste their Bartollo cabernet.
