Selected Jan because she had a great big studio and I could see that she was very experience with all kinds of stained glass work. I provided her with my needs, timing and color etc. and she performed as I had hoped, in fact, possibly beyond my expectations. She met the agreed on schedule and the workmanship was excellent. She also was very helpful in making the preliminary decisions as to type of glass, colors, textures etc. Finally, my husband and I found her easy to talk to and friendly. The owner, Jan Brookhart, is incredibly unhinged--she spent the entire call compulsively laughing at nothing and acting like she's on a different planet. She is beyond entitled and loves to make it clear she's the owner, even judging me for "sounding too nice" over the phone. As a woman, be prepared for unsolicited and condescending "womanly advice" for no reason. God bless her, but save your time and call someone else. read more

JAN is an absolute psychopath. I called to see if I could get some glass replaced on my vintage Spanish sconces and she immediately started compulsively laughing. When I could, I would try and interject. She then would crescendo her laughter. I couldn't figure out if she was having a psychotic break or episode. From that point on it was one of the strangest(mostly one sided) conversations I have ever had . She began insulting me for not being an educated man. Telling me I won't win...whatever that's supposed to mean. All I did was explain my situation and she just started correcting my speech the whole time . Telling me I'm starting arguments. I was mostly silent after I injected my inquiry. She seems to be off her meds today. I'll take my business somewhere else. read more

TREAD LIGHTLY. I agree with the all negative comments previously posted. If you do decide to work with Jan, ......and willing to bypass her eccentric behavior and need a psychotherapy session.... by all means, work with Jan..... She does know her stuff and the work was perfectly done for my small project...... albeit painful dealing w/ her. .......get an estimate in writing prior to proceeding with your project and indicate a "not-to-exceed" dollar amount or hours. So, there's no surprises. She quoted me an $89/hour rate for my project (2023 August). NOTE: per Google search, to repair a stained glass lamp shade, you can expect to spend between $200 and $400, depending on what type of cracks or damage are present. Since mine was not a lamp shade, but a 25" x 30" cracked/missing glass framed piece, my repair cost was $565 total. Hope this helps. read more

Jan does very nice work. I had 3 custom windows made by her and the end result exceeded my expectations. She has an artistic eye and made great suggestions on what types of glass to use. She may not be the easiest to work with, but she does beautiful work. We have a stained glass inlay on our wooden front door. One of the glass pieces cracked and I wasn't sure how to go about getting it fixed, so I asked a lady at an art show who was selling stained glass about it. She told me she didn't do that type of work but to go to Stained Glass Castle as they could do those types of repairs and would do things properly. We called Stained Glass Castle and made an appointment with with Jan for her to visit our home and look at the door. Jan showed up on time, provided us with a quote and we paid a reasonable deposit to secure the date the repair would take place - on location, without having to remove the door! Jan showed up promptly the day of the repair, the door looked brand new when she was finished, and we paid the previously agreed upon amount. The door is now very solid and beautiful once again! My husband did get another quote from a different company. The price was higher and I don't remember exactly what the situation was... but we were going to have to install the new piece of glass on our own or something, which is not something we felt capable of doing anyways. Stained glass is an artwork. Jan creates beautiful work and does things properly. I waited a few months to write this review after the repair to make sure everything still felt solid... and it's still as good as new today! Thank you Jan and team. read more

Words can't describe how insane Jan is. She insulted me for no reason. She needed work done on her home. So I drove to her home and saw she needed help. she was very rude and made it obvious she was very racist. She had me do all this work in her home and never paid me. Then called my employer and had me fired after lying to my employer. She told my employer that I was doing work under the company name on the side. Over the past few years I have contacted various glass shops trying to find someone to make beveled glass inserts to replace the 2 broken in my front doors. I was repeatedly declined and told to get new front doors. Because of size, that would cost well into the thousands, well out of my budget. I saw the Stained Glass Castle in passing, gave a call and spoke to Jan the owner. She explained her abilities, my options and the price ranges. Ultimately through an exchange of photos we were able to create a design for the panels which complimented my transome. I removed my broken panels, took them to her and days later I had the new panels in hand. I re-installed them and they are perfect, at a very reasonable price. We love our new special window. Our experience with Jan and her installer were both great. Jan replied to my phone request and very quickly scheduled a house call to show us her catalogs of past work for inspiration. After a full discussion and measurement she was off to start our custom ocean theme octagon creation. Just a few days later the installer was here to expertly remove our old painted over glass and install the new work of art. I accompanied my son into her establishment. The place was adorned with really nice examples of artistic stained glass. That was as good as it got. The workspace was disheveled, cluttered, not a good example of a shop well kept. Parts and pieces, tools were scattered about the place. The woman (who never gave her name) immediately went off into an unprovoked rant of far-left wing ideology, man-hating verbiage, and really crazy stuff, just short of personal attacks. I was astonished that someone in business would risk alienating a customer in that way. She did not hold back. Since the establishment reeked so badly of cat urine (and God only knows whatever else filth there was!), I walked back out into the parking lot to wait for my son. He had already paid her for her efforts for his work which had not yet been delivered, and I didn't want to set her off on that. So yes, she responded quickly - but not in a good way. Reliable? I guess; if she treats everyone this way, I guess you could rely on that. My son thought that the price he paid for what he eventually got was reasonable. While the work was not completed quickly, good work (particularly artwork) often is not quick. I decided to take my stained glass business somewhere -anywhere- else. read more

I am finally doing a yelp review after having been a customer of Stained Glass Castle for nearly 20 years. I first met with Jan, the owner, around 2001 or so, when she completed very beautiful custom glass french doors for me. I loved them so much, that the following year, I had her create the same stained glass art for a 3 sectional window I have in the front living room. To say Jan is an artist is an understatement. Her work is beyond beautiful and has lasted through the years. I say this as my boss built a custom home in TN and spent $5K on his front glass doors with his builder, and twice in a year the support rod failed and his stained glass sagged. I told him I wished he could have Jan do his work as mine has withstood the test of time for nearly 20 years. I had to call Jan in 2018 when an Amazon delivery guy decided to toss a package at the door and it caught wind and broke the door by putting about a 7" hole in the glass. Thank God for the Ring camera! I was so distraught and called Jan. She assured me she would be out the next morning with her employee and they removed the glass, fixed it, and brought it back the same day!!! Needless to say, the work was perfection where I could not tell there had been any damage. I had to call Jan again this past week as my dogs were wrestling and ran into the door. Mind you, I have two 100 lbs Akitas, so there was no way it would withstand the impact. Again, I called Jan and I now have my glass repaired and fixed within the same day it was scheduled for. I do have another project I am looking at for stained glass, and will definitely reach out. I have only had pleasant experiences with Jan and am so grateful for her work. There is no one who can do what Jan can do. Other stained glass people have seen my windows and have even commented how absolutely beautiful they are. I am attaching photos. JAN IS UNPROFESSIONAL, DEMANDING, AND RUDE. I had called this store for my Vietnamese immigrant father who does not know English well. When pictures were sent of a door needing repairing to Jan's (the owner) number. After, a call was made back to my father, where she had aggressively demanded to instead speak with me. No other service owner has treated my father this way. Although he is not fluent, he is still able to be understood. Furthermore, Jan is incredibly unprofessional and passive aggressive. Firstly, when she was explaining about the picture sent she would say it in a very demanding and entitled tone: "Get up and take the picture." She then went on further to explain how she wanted the picture. I had said, "Okay, hold on" so I could quickly translate for my father. Instead of being professional and understanding, she shouted "NO, COME BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!" Do not walk away from the phone while I'm speaking with you and don't take the picture now." I was frankly quite shocked. Secondly, she then went on a rant as to why she wanted to speak with me instead of my father, an in the midst of it referred to him as a "deaf-mute." It told me what I needed to know about her as a person, and how the money my father has worked hard to earn should not be wasted on someone who does not respect their customers. She had spoken to me in such a condescending way that her snide laugh couldn't even cover it up. I knew I had had enough then and hung up on her. If anyone wants to work with her, please know that she will not treat those who do not know much English well, and that she needs serious psychotherapy. read more

I needed some stain glass repaired and I was VERY happy I called Jan. She has 32 years of experience doing exactly what my wife and I needed. She thought through the problem and gave us better solutions than we would have thought of on our own. I worked with her 5 times during the process. I feel like I have a friend in the glass world. She came by in her glass truck within the hour and picked up the glass for me and brought it back changed on time. It was absolutely exceptional service and the work was perfect. All was fine until I wouldn't agree to place order immediately, she said they needed work to do over the holidays. I really liked her design, but didnt want to order right away. I wanted to see all design elements while I was there, so after the holidays when I was back to work, I could call her to order and pay. She made a terrible assumption that I couldn't afford the piece and stated she wouldn't show me colors to finish design. If you can't handle Jan at her worst you don't deserve her at her best. When I called for a quote on a custom window Jan was pleasant at first, things took a sharp turn when she asked how old I was I told her my age and she responded with "you were raped as a child" then proceeded to tell me how I needed to be educated in psychology and that art would get me nowhere. She then proceeded to tell me how she herself is a survivor of SA and incest, a lot to unpack in a conversation that I kept trying to direct back to stained glass, she told me I had no business being married and that my children were unloved and I must be an unfit mother, I'd like to add that I hadn't said anything besides "hi, I'd like a quote on a window" then my age. This was ALL JAN ALL THE TIME! Before she hung up on me she said "don't call back until you speak like Hillary Clinton" I don't know what that means but I've been working on my impression to impress what may or may not be the greatest experience of my life. Is it possible to give negative stars? My husband and I were undergoing an extensive remodel at our home, and we decided to include some stained glass in a few of the higher windows. We went to the shop on Beach Blvd and talked to a Jan that apparently owned the place. In our discussions, the price seemed quite high for what we had in mind. She said she needed to keep her workers busy, which, while an admirable goal for an employer, that really isn't why we were there, nor was it our concern. As the negotiations progressed, I asked if we could talk somewhere else, as the smell of cat pee was quite strong. She got indignant, started making personal comments, started rambling on about going to UCLA and then I guess she was through with us because she said to me that the only reason my husband married me was because I "was a whore". My jaw dropped to the floor. Never in my life have I been spoken to in such a manner by a person that was in business with the public. My husband almost went at her. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! The woman is crazy. There are many stained glass companies available. We found several filled with normal people. What a loon. RUN AWAY! I couldn't sleep for a week after this experience. To say that this place is "sketchy" is a gross understatement. The hideous order from pets was significantly rancid and toxic, to the point my eyes were burning. Seriously. I mean I have 3 dogs and have had many many cats and have never smelled something so bad. Secondly, the selection was so-so, but the pricing was ridiculous. I have several pieces of stained glass at home and have never heard someone (the owner, also sketchy) say that generally pieces would be about $150 per square foot. My fiancé was referred to Jan. The first conversation my fiancé had with Jan? She was very overbearing!! Wanting to control her and guide her towards not marrying me!! My fiancé just blew it off. Jan came to the house and picked up our Tiffany lamp. She immediately started in on my fiancé! Then I walked into the room. She looked me up and down and sized me up! Then, Jan left with out lamp, I carried it to her truck. After Jan repaired our lamp? She call to come pick it up. She only wanted my fiancé to pick it up! It was on my way home from work, so I picked it up. She would only accept cash. I had to go to the bank and then come back again with cash in hand! When, I came inside her business. As most people have stated in their reviews! The smell of urine! Was so strong! It made my eyes water! After I got the lamp from her! She proceeded to verbally attack me! Remember?
