Peru is much more than just Machu Picchu and other archaeological sites. It's a country where its rich culture also shines through its internationally acclaimed exquisite cuisine, which has only recently exploded onto the international culinary stage. It is among the most generous and deeply rooted, with traditions reaching back to the Incas, a wealth of beautiful indigenous ingredients and culinary influences from Spain, Japan, Italy, Africa and China. Jersey is home to a wealth of Peruvian restaurants, found largely in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties. Passaic itself is home to the largest Peruvian immigrant population in the Garden State. Like food everywhere today, there is a new style of Peruvian cuisine emerging--so-called nueva comida--forged by Lima's leading chefs like Gaston Acurio and Pedro Miguel Schiaffino. Situated on a busy N Wood Avenue in Linden, some of my colleagues came to this establishment for lunch after a three-year hiatus. A reservation was made by calling into Stancia Peruvian Fusion Restaurant. Upon arrival, our table was ready inside a modern, well-decorated space with music blasting like a lounge to evoke a summer celebratory vibe. The menu is a bit fancier than other Peruvian eateries. We began with a jar of their homemade drink, Chicha Morada, made of purple corn, pineapple, lime, cinnamon and cloves described as fruity and tangy. As appetizers to share, we decided on Piqueo Stancia, Chalaquitas de Scallops, Calamar Frito, and Mini Papas-Rellenas. As the main dish, we opted for Pescado A Lo Macho (Corvina), Quinoa Chaufa with Scallops, Tacu Tacu con Lomo Saltado, Quinoa Chaufa with Shrimps, Quinoa Chaufa with Salmon, Tacu Tacu with Chicken, Pachamanca, and Arroz Chaufa de Pollo. Complimentary roasted corn accompanied the aji verde spicy hot green sauce that started our meal. Each dish is a work of art, not just in presentation but in the authentic flavor not too overpowering, it remained exquisite with a sizeable portion. This restaurant continues to impress us every time with their consistency and good customer service. This is my favorite peruvian place! Not my first time eating here so forgive me if I already reviewed the place but I thought I should! The food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional as always, 5/5 stars. The atmosphere is always nice, well decorated and they usually have live music (though this Sunday I went w my mom and sister they didn't). We loved everything! We went on a Sunday at around 12pm as the place was opening up and enjoyed a calmer service than usual. Music was playing and atmosphere was very inviting. Service was good, with the server coming around often and making sure we had everything we needed. Bilingual servers who knew the menu well! Menus are all on an iPad and tip was already included! Food was delicious. Being Peruvian born and raised, I know what Peruvian food is supposed to taste like and this is one of the few restaurants I've tried in a while that hit the mark. The anticuchos were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Although the rachi was a bit too smoked for my taste, it reminded me a lot of the rachi I used to have in Lima! I always come here with my family and I always go on a Saturday if I want really good Peruvian food. I get the Stancia piqueo, ceviche and lomo saltado. The drinks are amazing in my opinion . Saturdays they have live music with pretty good songs. For the ceviche they give you options for what kind of fish you want and for the lomo saltado what kind of meat you would like. Other than that I can't complain about the service. As for the prices they are up there, but it is worth it PLUSSSS I am speaking from a Peruvian's point of view Go check it out. One word DELICIOUS! The drinks were great and the service was exceptional. The bartenders look at how to prepare the drink which was interesting but honestly it avoided it being to sweet or bitter. The food though!!! Now that was the star of the show. Because Peruvian food has a lot of Asian influence I sometimes find it to be salty. However, I'm glad to report it was not at all. Very dissapointed. I was told this place was worth a shot by a couple of colleagues but it did not meet my expectations. We ordered the anticuchos and it was good; but nothing to brag about. I then ordered their Stancia Clasico; which is jalea with a side of ceviche. Every Peruvian knows that Jalea comes with salsa criolla on top. However, we were served the jalea with no salsa criolla and the seafood was overloaded with flour; also, the oil they used to fry was obviously old. Now, to the most dissapointing part of the meal; the ceviche. Wayyyy too salty!! I can't believe the chef or cook let that this dish leave the kitchen counter that way. No Peruvian leaves a half full plate of ceviche unless something is terribly wrong with it. Im not even gonna mention the prices for such subpar experience. I've been to Stancia several times before (even celebrated a birthday here) and always enjoyed it, but after this last visit, I won't be returning. While dining, my sister ordered a coffee. As she stirred it, she discovered a small roach on her spoon. We immediately let the server know, and while they did apologize and took back the coffees, the only items removed from our bill were the coffees and the cake-cutting fee. That's it. We weren't expecting our entire meal to be comped -- although given the situation, it wouldn't have been unreasonable -- but I was surprised that there wasn't more effort to make things right. It felt like because we didn't cause a scene or make the whole restaurant aware, they didn't take it seriously enough. As someone who has supported this place multiple times, I left disappointed. If I were the owner, I would've handled it much differently. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning. read more

Visited this restaurant while apartment hunting in the area with my boyfriend. The waiter was pleasant and took our order. The dishes came out together and drinks were served cold. My boyfriend ordered pulpo appetizer and I ordered breaded chicken with boiled potatoes that came with asparagus. The dish was cooked as ordered and while I thought my dish was good my boyfriend did express his dish taste as thought the octopus was reheated. Our drinks were a canned Diet Coke and inca cola. We received our billed and were surprised to receive a total of $86. Examining the bill we were charged $28 for an appetizer and $30 for an entree. The remaining balance were the drink canned drinks and gratuity which was already included in the bill. We were beyond surprised at the cost of the dishes. And were disappointed. Our honest opinion, the cost per dish was over over priced compared to the amount received and quality of food served. We were extremely disappointed to also see a roach crawling on the floor by the table next to us after we finished our meal. We were seated and after 15 minutes of servers walking past our table with absolutely no acknowledgment, we got up and left. The restaurant was busy but not packed. I saw an instagram post about this place & decided to check it out with a friend last night. The decor inside was very modern. It was a perfect size, not too small, not too big. The staff was really sweet and very efficient. They were constantly clearing out items off our table to make space for things. I noticed that when you make a reservation, they already have your name placed on a table for you in advance. I've had peruvian food before in the past, but out of all the places i've been to, this place definitely had a more extensive menu, which may be a bit overwhelming looking at it. I did notice that their Appetizers are a little bit expensive, so i just opted to order the entree only. For my cocktail, I got the pretty-in-pink & it tasted great. My friend enjoyed the lima mule and purple-tini as her cocktails. For my meal, I got arroz chaufa with a special mix of chicken, steak, and shrimp. It was a good portion and tasted good, but the pieces of steak were a bit tough. For dessert, we shared tres leches and I loved it. We came at 6 pm, which I feel is the perfect time on Saturday because 7:30pm and beyond, there was definitely a surge of people coming in, which made it get busy quickly. One of my girlfriends and I got together to get some Peruvian food. I have been here before they added a bar so was looking forward to trying it again. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and seen my friend. The place is super cute. Diego was our server and he was nice. I started with the lemon drop martini and it was more like lime but it was good. For my meal I got the Tallarin saltado with chicken and my friend got the steak. When the food came out it looked delicious. I dug in and really enjoyed the meal. If it was my husband rating he would give it a 5 maybe for his dish. He ordered ribeye medium cooked that came with rice plantain egg and the ribeye. I tasted the egg and steak were delish and tender full of flavor. That was the "bistec a lo pobre". My dish however was pretty good on the pasta portion. I ordered tallarines a la huancaina and although I wanted it with breaded chicken my waiter was quick to tell me that was not an option. And when I asked which is the tenderest meat for it then he suggested entraña which I did not care for. It was medium well but tough and not too much flavor. For the price, I was not happy. After paying I asked for another green sauce and the waiter wanted me to pay $1 for another one.
