My experience with standard Auto has been very skeptical not satisfied at all only the price first of all I was referred to them by a worker at the DMV when I went into take care of business and he told me that he was an expert in Dodge however when I got there this was a new owner I went in for a steering angle sensor when I left my steering wheel had so much play in it so I went back to work with the guy at the desk he went to my car oh no it's just fine there's no place then the owner came and he told him to reprogram so he did and everything was fine however a year later I took my car in January 2nd 2026 to get a thermostat put in I have a regular mechanic for years now he already diagnosed that it was a thermostat however he was too busy to do it so I decided to go with an option which was standard Auto on Colfax I had called ahead spoke to someone j i l t he gave me a good price I said okay I brought my own thermostat and told them to just put water in for I am very aware of my car and I have to say it I am a pretty good mechanic myself that part however I received a call saying that my car thermostat was in and that they noticed that water was leaking from my water pump when I got there the car was up on the lift not all the way up I asked for the car to be put up so I can look under it the car was put only halfway where you couldn't even look under it I asked him mechanic what did you do to my car he didn't even respond he just pointed to the owner in the office and another mechanic came and pointed to the office the manager came out and said why are you hollering at my mechanics I said what did you do to my car my car was not leaking water before I brought it in he said we did a pressure test and water is leaking from the water pump it was so much water leaking it filled up the bottom pan however I wanted to see if water was leaking from the weep hole yeah no one told them to do a pressure test and to insult my mechanic by saying I need a water pump in which I had one put in 2 weeks ago with receipt and stayed there for the whole procedure which took four or five hours to do with my mechanic I guess my point is he's trying to make money wherever he could he wasn't happy with the 224 that I paid for labor so he was trying to get more money not really honestly thought that they were pretty cool but I'm good I won't be back and I'm thinking about proceeding what further consequences no one does a pressure test for free out of concern to see what's wrong with your car not at all especially not a mechanic they always want money so be prepared if you take your car there trust me and all of these comments that are on the review are made six to seven years ago which is the previous owners and I also met them before and they were very nice so beware read more

Not a good place at all wants to do a diagnostic but only check threw the computer, that was it also my car is a 06 chrysler 300c srt8 it has a built in code reader I told them how to do it but they didn't do it and then lied to us saying my car is perfectly fine no codes no wire problems , but I do have wires hanging out the front of my car, the same day I brought my car to them I had another mechanic and not a electrician check and he found the problem, so they called me and said there's no problem at all with my car and I have to pay 160$ for the inspection then I whipped out the paper that I got from the mechanic and then want to out of know where want to say "ohhh ummm then you don't have to be charged for the diagnostic " wont recommend this place to anyone and they had my car for 3 days I got recommended by the chrysler dealership also terrible place read more

My partner had taken out car to this ship for a number years and so far no issues. However this recent visit(which is now out last) made us go somewhere else. Back in February I noticed the temperature gauge was going up. Took the car in and spent over $700 on the repair. A week later the same issue came up again. Really??? It was supposed to be fixed. After trying to contact them they conveniently had a personal emergency. We got ripped off. We decided to no longer give this place anymore business. This place is a complete rip off. After paying $1,400 to get my BMW 128i Out of the shop I drove off and the check engine light was still on. Called them and spoke with the owner Tom and he said drive it for 35+ miles and the light should turn off. Didn't even make it 35 miles before it died. Called back and he said he won't work on it and to not tow it back there so I had it towed to another shop to have it looked at and was told the engine seized and would be about 5k to put another engine in. Called Tom to let him know and he just kept telling me he can't do anything and wasn't his fault? How do you give me my car back with no engine oil. This place is a joke and I don't know how their still in business. Don't take your car here unless you want to leave with more problems than you went in with. Honesty is a best policy and when I pay over $1400 and am being told my car will run better than ever and a second later being told my car is running rough and take it easy ...I start to wonder ...then the guy starts to break down my receipt for me ...it clearly states that they added a quart of synthetic oil for $7.95...and he even says they topped off my oil....but before handing me my car key the gentlemen says I should add a quart of oil or get an oil change soon...I am like what you just charged me for oil ?! ?? Then he says o ya I got cars confused ....Mind you all ..I get free top offs at Jiffy lube and just got an oil change last month ...so this was confusing to me...then I read receipts and says I need oil Wth ?? I needed to get an oil change for SO long but was just afraid to head to an auto shop. I typically go to jiffy lube but the wait is unpredictable, and it is just a corporate in n out job for them but here they actually took their time to do a full inspection on my car as well and actually explained what they recommended needed work. They even had pics of included in the report, no other shop has done that, maybe they just say i need a new battery or whatever but i never fully trust them. I actually thought this shop would be different seeing that they had such high reviews on Carmax RepairPal but no. After picking up my car the first time after repairs were supposed to be completed I noticed my car still making the same noise. I immediately called them, their response, it must be the other issues which a manufacturer was scheduled to be taken care. 1st Red Flag- deflecting their negligence on a water pump issue. 2nd Red Flag- after getting water pump fixed I returned for initial issue. They said this was an entirely new issue since it was 800 miles later-no I called the day after and let them know whatever they supposedly fixed, was not. 3rd Red Flag- they said my car had several issues so it's easy to miss. (This was the main issue I took it in for) Deflection and not taking accountability are not good business practices. I picked my car up on Friday and had to call them on Saturday that the same lights and sound had returned! And now they are refusing to fix anything after they were paid for under my extended warranty, for what? I don't know because my car is still making the same sound it did the first time. Do not go here. They will act like you don't know what you are talking about, deflect responsibility, and play ignorant to the fact that the problem still exists. read more

Standard Auto Care Never thought I'd write a review for a smog check, but I've now taken two different vehicles to Standard Auto Care for the last several years, and I've never had an auto shop that did such good work at such reasonable prices. The place is small, nothing fancy. But the service is friendly, fast, and very fair. I haven't had any work done there except a smog check, but I would trust them with my vehicles after the way I've been treated. If you need a smog check, this is definitely the place to go in Sacramento, even if you have to drive across town to get there. read more

Warning do not go to this auto shop unless you want to be played out of money. They give you an original quote and you come in to get the work done and they Trump the charges up and add on new things that need to be done. The guy said he owned two shops one here and one in Del Paso Heights and told me to come in Saturday to get my AC recharge and said I need an additional part which totals up to $500. I was desperate as it is over 100° in Sacramento right now and I have two small children. I went in to get the work done and he started telling me. I need other things done and needed to get them done now and asked and questioned me in front of my kids argumentatively why I was not getting these services. I replied to him over and over that I could not afford the additional services and the additional charges. Then he proceeded to say oh you don't have cash for your Services why did you not bring cash for your Services. Then he told me that because I was using a debit card, he would need to charge a large convenience fee and he did not know how much "the machine would charge me. I was charged an extra $10 for a convenience fee. Do not and I quote do not use this shop. They are nothing but a red flag and if he sends you over to his shop in Del Paso Heights, it's even worse. The only good thing about the shop is a person who works at the front desk seems to be nice and honest, but if you go through the owner, he will rip you off. read more

I told Tom directly that I was disappointed with my service and he said "What you should be disappointed by is how much it's going to cost to get it fixed". Yeah, especially if I got it fixed by them (estimate $3150 from them, $1700 from Luscious Garage/SF). I had to call them two times after they hadn't even looked at until the second day it was sitting there. He sent me a copy of the illegible diagnostic codes that I had to ask for and that even he couldn't read, which created a bunch of emailing back and forth, wasting everyone's time. We were told diagnostic codes were checked for free. Nope, they charge $128. But hey! They give you a rose and candy when you leave...so you'll leave a nice review? That's the only reason I gave them two stars instead of one. So it works, guys! read more

The people who work here are awesome! Where should I start? My car stalled out on me at home; I'm glad it was at home and not while I was out. I was moving it to a different parking spot when all of a sudden smoke was coming out of my hood and the next morning it wouldn't steer for me. Thanks to Yelp, I called this location and they towed it for me the next morning. I spoke with Kathy on the phone more than a couple times each day as she was trying to find me a good estimate and ordered a few parts for me. They had my car for a week, which was inconvenient for me, but that's the only negative thing I have to say about that. Kathy explained everything very well and didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing much of anything about cars. They replaced my a/c compressor, belt, pulley, and also gave me an oil change. When I went to pick up my car, they were even nicer in person! Sweet folks, they gave me a red rose and some candy! lol I'll be coming back for oil changes and etc. read more

Moved recently to the area, and they are down the street. Have had my previous Honda Element, current Toyota FJ Cruiser, and current Mazda RX-8 there for service. I will give them the highest praise I can give any car repair shop: they are so fastidious, they don't grease up my steering wheel/shifter/interior/etc the way almost every other shop (including the many BMW dealers I have dealt with) seem to do. I would believe it's not a coincidence that this is then representative of their quality of customer service, and so far I have not had any problems with their work itself. My 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been experiencing a "Check Engine Light" condition off & on for 2 months. During that time, I had 3 mechanics run diagnostics to determine the root cause of the check engine light being on. All 3 verified that the culprit was a leaky fuel canister (device that you stick your gas nozzle in while refueling) and a faulty gasket around the canister. Both parts total about $75. I took my Jeep to Folsom Jeep. I was absolutely stunned that they wanted to charge me $410 for labor only. Whatever!!!!! I googled "Best Auto Service in Sacramento" & was pleased to read reviews for Standard Auto Care. They did not disappoint me. I brought the 2 parts with me & also asked for a synthetic oil change. The cost for the repairs in addition to the full synthetic oil change was LESS THAN $300. I have zero doubt that Folsom Jeep would've charged me DOUBLE. The Owner Tom & his office staff (Sue & Miguel) were wonderful. Tom (the owner) took the time to walk me through what he thought I needed to have done before he authorized his mechanics to start working on my car. This is an old issue, but thought I'd follow up with my review. We took the car to another shop who charged $40 total to look at the car and fix whatever minor issue there was and the car passed smog with no issues. Saved ourselves $80 at the very least. I honestly believe the fuel treatment they did on the vehicle just needed time to burn off before trying to smog again, but that advice wasn't given. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience at this shop. I took my recently purchased vehicle for a "pre-inspection" after having driven it for a week already without any issues and received a very false and over exaggerated report on the vehicle which couldn't even be followed up with a thourough explanation of cause and solution (leaks, bad breaks, bad steering problems). The strong attempts to keep me from buying the car, trashing every car dealership in Fulton area as untrustworthy and then referring me to a dealership they know well, Carmax in Roseville, also made matters worse. I just took my car to a known mechanic and trusted shop near me, got another inspection was told that the car is in great shape and it was a good find. It drives well and there are no real issues. I really do hate to leave bad reviews but I feel it's important to share this experience to encourage honest customer relations without an agenda to obtain car buyer referees. read more

This place is a small little gem . I found them about a year ago and have been going to them for all my car needs, except for when it comes time to wash it lol. They're top shelf mechanics and will take care of you. I purchased a battery from them about a year ago and yesterday went in because It was defective and they took great care of me I was in and out within 20 mins swapped me right out for a new one and no fees of any sort. I give them A one because the office staff was great and gave me a rose. However I felt robbed. $230.40 for labor to install an ignition switch.$192.00 labor to find a code on the check engine light. The only thing I did feel robbed on was the cost of the ignition switch. If my code was due to an ignition switch these prices for labor were in my opinion steep. At first I felt comfortable but then I felt stripped of my little retirement income. I wouldn't return because of the cost. P.s. I own a Volkswagen. If you own a European car and something goes wrong....you get an immediate pit feeling in your stomach because you know it may not go well. I needed a repair shop that 1. repairs VW's, 2. is close to my office and 3. is fair on price. Well, I found the spot. Standard Auto Care on Colfax Street. This shop works on domestics and European vehicles. The shop is incredibly clean and inviting. Coffee or water available, flat screen TV and a comfortable waiting area. The shop has been in business for over 17 years and the owner is very personable and knowledgeable. Tom addressed my concerns before he did diagnostics on my vehicle. He has loaner vehicles, free tow and finance options for those on a budget. My repair was taken care of that day, and I found the pricing very fair unlike other shops I have been too. Lot of special attention to details such as a thank you note on my rear view mirror, candy bag tied to my steering wheel and a rose too! Very nice touches. I am not taking my vehicle anywhere else but to Standard Auto Care - great place. read more

As I'm quickly approaching 200,000 miles on my Nissan truck, I needed some honest recommendations to keep me on the road for my next 100k. Standard Auto Care and their crew took my vehicle in for a day, changed my oil to at least have that handled, and provided me with some clear options. They offered transparent advice so that I wasn't pressured into paying for anything that my truck didn't need, and that alone is priceless. I was able to schedule an appointment for two days later so that my parts could be ordered, dropped my truck off that morning, and picked it up at end of business that same day. I'm happy to say that she's running as smooth as when I first got her, with new tires, belts, and fluids fresh and ready to get up to Tahoe for another snow season. I brought my Isuzu Rodeo in for a smog repair. No one could identify the problem. After a long slog, bringing in old employees, contacting the Bureau of Automotive Repair, contacting their schematics service, they tracked down and fixed the problem. I thought I was going to have to get rid of the car, but they nailed it - and for a decent price. They also discovered a possibly life threatening exhaust leak and warned me about fixing it. I took my car here after only owning it a few months and they found that I had a oil leak on the head gasket and by them telling me about it I got it fixed right away and did not have to pay for it from the car lot. Do know how long you could go with out knowing about a oil leak ? Long enough for the auto plan to run out and you would have to pay out of pocket because your plan has expired. Standard auto care always does a 41 point check on your auto when getting a oil change. Thank you for the great job and for saving me about 2000 in labor and parts for my car to be fixed.
