    Blueberry Lemon Tart

Wonderful! They have a great system down to efficiently manage the amount of visitors. We ordered a baguette and blueberry lemon tart. Both were fantastic! We will definitely be back next time we are in Portland and try some new items.

Came here in the morning while we were walking around. So excited to try! Inside is full of so many delicious looking pastries. I ordered a cheese pastry and loved it! It came out warm and it hit the spot on a cold morning. No seating inside but the workers were so friendly. I would come back to try another pastry or get the same one! Yum!

Stopped by Standard bakery for some goodies on my way home from Portland. They never disappoint. The wild rice porridge loaf is really good. Hearty, wholesome, crusty outside, soft inside. I also had a cheese, egg, ham Danish that was fantastic. I also tried a chocolate chip cookie that was phenomenal. And a scone with blueberries that was fantastic. Service was kind. It was a straightforward experience. But the visual of getting to see all the breads for me was awesome. No seating. And they did have some coffee. I will be back for more.

A Maine local friend highly recommended Standard Baking to us. He said their sourdough is out of this world and also reminded us to skip the scones (they are rather dry). Honestly, I truly think this bakery is truly living up to its hype!! The line was very long on a weekend morning, but it moved fast. We only waited 20 minutes in line. The Maine Miche Bread, a whole wheat sourdough, was my favorite of this haul. Crunchy crust, soft and tangy interior. Only $8.50 for a big loaf. 10/10. Blueberry Lemon Tart blew our mind. It was SO DELICIOUS that we almost went back to wait in line again. We should've tried more tarts and fruit pastries. The croissant texture was perfect, and so as the pain au chocolate. Flaky and buttery. Morning bun was sweet, sticky and satisfying. Just a note that many baked goods are made with almond flour, like the fruit tarts. For those who has nut allergy, remember to ask the staff.

A customer presented me with a box of goodies from here and wow! Super fresh and super delicious. Pretty to look at too. I've wanted to go here for some time so I was so happy with my gift! Delish! *I gnawed on a cookie before I took the photo

Every one of our road trips to Portland always ends with a trip to Standard Baking... we are seriously addicted to this place and have no self control when it comes to buying boxes (yes, plural! haha!) to bring home with us! Standard Baking is a Portland staple. Their homemade pastries and bread are top tier. We can't pick any favorites, because we always leave with a little bit of everything! I recommend ordering ahead of time for pickup, otherwise you will be waiting in a super long line! If you are like us and prefer to go in person to see the selection, make sure you go early in the morning to avoid a long wait (but we promise you, the wait is always worth it!) Parking is like most of Portland - there are paid street spots or lots available in the area.

One quick update: as a cooking school graduate, it's easy for me to fall head over heels for cooks and Bakers who do incredible things. So my heart beats faster for Standard Baking. But here's why I'm writing the update: I bought their pastry cookbook before I left Maine, because I so enjoyed their vibe and their breads and pastries. The cookbook was produced with the same level of enthusiasm, attention to detail, and awesomeness as all their breads and pastries. So, if you love cookbooks or would like to be able to take a little of Standard Baking's heart and soul home with you, treat yourself to a cookbook!

Standard Baking was one of the most recommended bakeries, so we had to see what the hype was all about. Reviews suggested there would be a line, but don't let it by a deterrent. There was a line, and it did not move as fast as expected. There were so many bakery items to chose from, so we ordered a variety. Some items were ham and cheese croissants, granola bar, chocolate chip cookies, brownie, and morning buns. We were not disappointed by any of items, except the ham and cheese croissant had mustard , which we did not expect, but it was notated on the sign . The brownie and cookies were excellent, so fresh. The croissants were flaky and buttery. It does help if you know what you want when it is your turn , for faster service. I would have liked to try their breads and tarts..highly recommend .

Service: service was as good as you could get for a quick walk in bakery. Everyone was very nice and the owner even gave us some free items for purchasing for the first time. Ambiance/atmosphere: small, crowded, and very nice inside. Being such a small spot it was quite crowded, but with how amazing it smelled you can let that slide. Food: the pasties here were nothing short of perfect and mouth watering. The almond croissant is the best I've ever had and finally a place that doesn't skimp on the delicious almond filling. As an almond Pastry lover, I loved loved loved this. One thing I love more than almonds, walnuts. The walnut sticky bun here is the best pastry to ever be created. It is so perfectly soft while staying firm with a nice bite and the crunchy sweet caramelized walnuts on top just set it to be a heavenly bite one after the other. Best pastry to exist. The pan au chocolat is a chocolate lovers dream. I am not a big sweets person which is why I prefer pastries instead of sweets like donuts and cakes, but this chocolate heaven is was something else. Not to sweet, but a perfect decadent flavor in every bite with the buttery soft flaky croissant. Delicious. The lemon poppy seed cake was great too. Really nice lemon flavor with the slight crunches of the poppy seed. This cake was so moist and soft, but yet didn't crumble. It was a really great bite and definitely recommend to anyone who likes lemon. The cookies here were good too, the salted chocolate chip had a great sweet and salty flavor. The oatmeal raisin was good, but nothing crazy. I am also very spoiled with the northstar cafe oatmeal raisin cookie so take this with a grain of salt. If you know then you're blessed. The best cookie to ever exist. The white chocolate raspberry scone was also really good and the brownie was fudge and had a really good ganache like chocolate taste and texture.

We don't go often but when we do we get their baguette. When we went today after an appointment, there was a line but they got it moving pretty quickly. I wanted some breakfast so I chose the almond croissant. Hubby got their blueberry scone. Both were really good and weren't overly sweet. The display is nice - there's a wide array of bread and pastry choices: Thought about getting the canelle but may be next time. The baguette is nice and soft but has the crusty outer layer. $14 for everything wasn't too bad considering the reputation this bakery has.

Our server at an oyster bar recommended this bakery, and said it's a popular place where there's usually long lines. We were fortunate to arrive when there was no line at all. Upon entering, you pretty much reach the front counter/display a few steps into the building, hence the lines out the door. Did not see indoor dining, only a few benches and tables right outside of the entrance. My husband and I picked out a few items that looked good: vanilla bean madeline, a sea salt chocolate chip pecan cookie, garlic herb cruffin and walnut morning bun. Each item was placed in individual paper bags. The madeline tasted freshly baked and not overly sweet; cookie was the perfect combination of sweet and salty, with chocolate in each bite; the walnut bun was yummy but would've been even better if warmed up. I did not try the cruffin but my husband said it was garlicky and buttery. A little pricey (spent close to $20 for those 4 items!) but that was expected since we were in a touristy area.

We stopped here twice during our trip to Maine. They have a great selection of breads, cookies and pastries. The first time there wasn't a line. The next time it was way out the door. However, they have two checkers and it doesn't take long. I especially liked their almond macaroons, although the coconut ones were good too. Their biscotti was yummy as were their other breads. I had never tried a fougasse, and it was delicious both the seeded and the Asiago. There is an outdoor area, but we were there just to take and go.

We stopped by for some breakfast pastries and coffee. I got a black iced coffee and my wife got an iced coffee with cream (both cold brew). They were good; a bit light if anything but they hit the spot. We also got a financier, a baguette, an apricot/almond scone, and an egg/ham/cheese danish. We walked over to the waterfront and ate the scone and the danish with our coffees, and it was delightful. Both tasted great. Later, we snacked on the baguette both by itself and with a little bit of cheese. We haven't eaten the financier yet but we are excited to! We're here for a few days so we will probably be stopping by another time!

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!

When I got in, I saw the flavors listed on the board and tried a few samples served on a metal spoon. Since I was in Maine, I had to try the two blueberry flavors. I immediately fell in love with the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato and asked for a small cup with that flavor. The Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato is comprised of wild blueberries intersected with a sweet and crunchy oat streusel covering and kissed by a scoop of vanilla. It was so yummy! My husband had the Netflix & Chill Gelato which is caramel gelato with brownie bits, peanut butter cups, and kisses. The small dish was $6.35 each and it includes a Maine restaurant tax. The next day, during the Portland: Old Port Culinary Walking Tour on Sunday, June 14, 2026, our last stop was The Gelato Fiasco. Funny enough, I was just here the night before. At The Gelato Fiasco, our group of 13 were able to each choose two flavors. Since I already had the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato last night, I wanted to try some other flavors. This time I got the Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea. WOW! The Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea really tasted like how you would expect it to taste, all the flavors were there, but imagine it in a denser, silkier texture and a more intense flavor. Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). I had gofres every day walking to Parque Marítimo. I haven't had ANYTHING like it since coming back to the States, and that's been over a decade now. Segue... The Marshmallow Cart is just fun. Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.
