i really didn't expect to stumble upon a bar in the East Village that would bother showing a Cal football game. So as I'm walking from Astor Place to my friend's place during a visit to NYC in October 2006, lo and behold, I see I sign for the Cal/Oregon game in front of the bar. That was enough to draw me in later that evening for the game. Be warned, it is a small place. Be prepared to stand. Despite the lack of space, there are enough televisions so that you may look in any direction to watch your game. Seriously folks, what's with ordering Bud Light. There are so many other choices to select from. My friend and I solicited some reasons as to why, and we received pretty lame responses. Even the bartender was miffed by all the consumption of Bud Light. Goodness, there were other beers with similar alcohol content. Cool thing for me was that I ran into someone who I hadn't seen in a year and had recently moved to NYC. So if you're a Cal alum, there is a chance that you'll run into someone, well, obviously only when the Golden Bears are playing... read more

My favorite sports bar on the planet. A constantly rotating selection of microbrews on tap. A crap-ton of tv's showing all the games that happen to be going on. The decor is amazing. The owner, Gary, is often present. He is eager to help with finding whatever obscure game you might be interested in seeing and also with some info on the beer list. Oh, they also have a ton of beers available in bottle form. You just have to ask for a list. Friday nights at 8 PM: Free Pizza. They also have events at other times with free food and sometimes a whole array of rare brews from top breweries, like Dogfish Head. read more

An enjoyable sports bar. There is little else too it. They have a have an extensive beer selection and lots of good quality tvs on every wall. Also there was no music which is, in my mind, a wonderful thing for a bar. I did not happen to have any food, but there are good deals posted everywhere in the bar for pizza and burgers on certain nights of the week. Also the ambiance is I think great. The bar is not glitzy or modern much closer to the wood lined interior of a neighborhood, but none the less had a great collection of random sporting banners and posters on the walls. One thing I enjoyed immensely about Standings was it does not seem to any particular affiliation to the sports of a particular city or region of the nation. At least that is what I could tell from the walls. I was there for a Jets-Pats playoff game and the crowd was pretty evenly matched and good natured. So, not the place to necessarily be carried away by the crowd but a great place to express friendly rivalry. read more

This is a very comfortable bar. They have plenty of televisions if you want to catch a game and sports memorabilia all over the place. They also think outside the box with the craft beers on tap. I would take off a half a star if I could because their sister bar, Burp Castle, is the better of the two. Also, it wouldn't kill them to have some Yankees items in the bar... read more

Beer and wine only...but the wine choices are dismal, so basically it's mainly beer. It's a decent size bar, 3 tables and about 8 stools. A lot of TVs that surround the bar, so you never miss a beat wherever you sit. The bartenders are friendly and the crowd is chill. read more

Did this place always go by this name? Oh who knows. But yeah, this place isn't terrible. I've been a few times and it's one of those places that prides themselves on having hundreds of different beer varieties and every time you order something you do so by number and then the bartender radios to some dude in the basement who then passes the bottle of beer up through the floor. The problem with this place is that they never have what you want and you wind up picking eight different kinds of beer until you just settle for some Sam Adam's brew. This was the place where I had the worst beer of my life, Sierra Nevada's Big Foot Ale. It tasted like someone put a cigarette out in a jar of molasses and then chilled it for a few minutes. So many TVs for such a small space. I believe there is a beantown bias in here but they will play whatever the important games of the day are. Awesome spot if you can post up in one of the tables or seats at the bar and enjoy having a panorama of viewing options. Standing around sucks though. Draft beer selection is decent and prices are exactly what you would expect of similar sports bars. Hard to hang with more than a few friends here as the space is limited. read more

I went to standings for the first time this past Friday. What a great sports bar, awesome memorabilia, they even had my Baltimore Orioles on the wall. Great beer selection at really decent prices, bartender was a "beer expert" and picked the perfect beer for me. Spoke briefly to the owner who seems like a genuinely nice person who loves his bar and loves sports. Tv's on every wall, super friendly bartender, great beer, what more could you ask for? If you like sports and you like beer, then Standings is a place for you. They have a great beer selection both on tap and in bottles with the majority of the drafts being $6. ($5. for Bud Light). They have a bunch of TVs and they play the sound of the big game going on. The place is small, so if you don't get a table or a seat at the bar, it can be tight, but once you are ensconced in your place, you'll find it hard to want to leave. The decor is an explosion for the eyes with banners, playing cards, towels, newspaper clippings, signs and everything else throw in between. There is a big chalkboard with the standing handwritten which adds a nice, old school touch. There's no kitchen, but they will let you eat take out. If you want to watch a game, throw back some cold ones and hang in a cool place, then you can't do much better than Standings. read more

I'm about to go there right now to kick-off the start of my California Golden Bears football season. It's awesome that a bar can devote so much energy to just several groups of people (they host a lot of alum events, including UC Berkeley). You can tell that the people who run this joint genuinely CARE for their customers. There's free pizza for everyone, and the bartenders make intelligent and meaningful conversation with you. The bartender made our experience at Standings really crappy, leaving a VERY BAD taste in our mouths. The service at Standings deserves MINUS FIVE stars. Note to manager/owner: I will never go back to your bar, I will always tell people how rude the bartender is, I was there with my Canadian dad and sister, and they will rate this bar as well. Your bartender's huge ego caused at least eight of us to get up and walk out of the bar together, these were three groups of people who didn't know each other, but our bond lasts in never, ever returning to Standings. There were several televisions with the opening ceremonies of the Olympics playing, but the audio in the bar was for the basketball game that was playing. I asked if the audio for the opening ceremonies could be turned on, and the bartender refused claiming this was a very important game, and patrons would object to the sound being turned off for the game. I asked him who was watching the game and he motioned to a man at the bar, so I asked him if he'd mind. He told me and the bartender he wouldn't mind at all. The bartender refused again stating there were other people watching. I proceeded to ask every group of people in the bar if anyone was opposed to the sound being turned up. Everyone in the bar clapped and cheered for the games to have the audio turned on, and he ignored all the patrons. Even the girls sitting next to us who were totally into the basketball game said that as far as they were concerned they knew what was happening in the basketball game without needing the sound, but like the rest of us, felt we could all better understand the Olympic games opening ceremony with audio. I arrived around 6:30 on a weeknight - the bar went from dead to filled with regulars in a matter of minutes. Friendly crowd - neighborhood spot to catch the game. Straight up great little sports bar with a good selection of revolving craft brews on tap. It's a tiny spot for sure, but definitely has a great homey feel and is one of the few places where they actually play the audio from whichever game has the biggest following on hand (but as long as you don't mind not having sound, which I doubt you'd get anywhere else, you'll even be able to watch that Mozambique vs Des Moines junior B team water polo exhibition that you've been dying to catch, because while the place is small, there's TV's crammed into any open space and if a game is on somewhere, it's on at standings). I drank way too much over-proofed beer here the other week. It's a decent sports bar where you can 'stand' over a multitude of pretty quality beers on tap. It has its quirks and charm. It's not dirty really at all but incredibly tiny with banners and sports paraphernalia hanging all over the place. If I wasn't way too absorbed into my drinking companion then I probably would have noticed more details of the place, but then I didn't. I easily get distracted. Smuttynose, Dogfish head, Harpoon, and SixPoint usually all on tap. Happy Hour is generally from 5-7pm. They have some weird deal that their website mentions, which I wasn't there for but it sounds amazing because who doesn't like FREE FOOD?! But Monday nights you get free atomic wings at 8:30pm during football (which I am aware is totally not in season I swear I was here for a hockey game), and free pizza on Fridays at 8pm. There are a lot of tvs. Thank god. Because I am blind. Also note as an fyi that there is no hard alcohol in this bar. read more

A pretty cool low-key sports bar that you may not really notice from the street with flat screens surrounding the place. It's not a huge place, so getting seats for a group larger than 4 may be difficult. They have a pretty good variety of beers on tap, and they have a lot of nights where they give out free food so that's definitely a plus. Some very tasty beers on tap lots of sports memorabilia to look at, games on TVs all around the bar, small bar, limited seating, but worthy nonetheless. Hubby had a Kentucky bourbon stout and I enjoyed a Stone smoked porter. Nice little find nestled between McSorleys, Burp Castle and Jimmys 43... not to be overlooked... Sports bar with a great beer program. It's part of the whole Standings/Jimmy's 43/Burp Castle family that shares its beer cave, so there's some serious beers there. I've gone there for Monday Night football and a few others. Free wings during the game. Only drawback is that it's tiny and can get pretty cramped. I can see why this is considered a great sports bar. Sure, it's divey, but if it's sports and beer you're into - this is the place to come. Still, I service issues with my experience here... my friend and I ordered 2 of the Standings Beer Flights, which is a great deal for 6 beers for $10. However, the bartender told us only 1 of us could order it b/c she didn't have enough glasses for 2 orders. The bar wasn't even close to being busy! I sucked it up and just got a regular beer but I really wanted that flight. Another thing is, they could really reupholster their chairs. I know I should just embrace the divey-ness of the place, but I have a huge issue sitting on exposed foam stools. Something about the porousness of the foam, stale beer, germs, and imagining big dudes sitting on them for long periods of time make me a bit queasy. read more

I came for happy hour on a thursday when the US mens basketball team was playing nigeria. The place was dead. I couldn't imagine coming here for a sporting event. You probably have to get there 2 hours before the event to get a seat, since there aren't many. I couldn't believe that this place had 4 stars and is this small. I have a feeling the high rating has a lot to do with the beer selection. Basically every bar that serves high end beers gets 4 stars on yelp. read more

Standings, you're the greatest. Docking a star cuz apparently you don't have Yankee allegiance, but you welcome everybody and I dig that. Also you don't serve liquor but it's OK. With handwritten signs for game times on each tv, you can position yourself strategically to get the best view of your team / the game you wanna watch. Nice low key sports bar down the road from McSorely's. Excellent beer selection and the bartender seemed to have an extensive knowledge of the choices. There is no bottled beer and thankfully no Coors Light , Miller Lite type beers. Definitely a hipster feel and overall a nice experience. I'm a huge NY sports fans and didn't pick up on the New England bias. I'll be back. read more

i LOVE this place! it's small, cozy and perfect for sports! no music, so you can listen to the games, and for such a small space, there are 7-8 TVs, each with a different game. The bartender is great and really helpful, giving us advice on what to drink out of their wide selection of beers! AND, when we were there for the first time last night (a friday) we found out that they buy pizzas (they bought 8 different large pizzas) and told everyone to have some, apparently they do this every friday and offer pizza for free! I checked their schedule, and on monday night football they offer free wings from atomic wings! And if you want to eat something else while there, you can bring food, order in, and even ask the bartender for a list of menus of the nearby eateries so you can figure out your options! read more
