We've been coming to Stanford's for years, and have yet to be disappointed. The feel is definitely upscale, but without being pretentious -- it's a very comfortable atmosphere. I love the ambiance of the raised booth section -- the lighting is perfect for relaxed dining. We arrived at the end of the lunch rush, so it did take a bit to get our orders placed (understandably); but our server was on point the rest of the meal. She even comp'ed my delicious apple crisp dessert, since we were there celebrating my birthday. :-) For this visit, we started with the Spicy Blackened Ahi tuna appetizer, which was excellent. The peppery exterior of the tuna was seared quickly, leaving a bright red, velvety, interior -- it was like butter! The spicy aioli was also a nice accompaniment, as were the lightly pickled cucumbers, carrots, etc. Highly recommended! For my entree, I ordered off the lunch menu, and went with the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries; which was exactly what I wanted. The buttermilk batter was crispy and nicely seasoned, and the brioche bun was up to the task of holding it all together. The fries were great, as well; lightly crisp on the outside, and fluffy on the inside -- and you could actually taste the potatoes! Thank you, Stanford's; for NOT following the trend of using the vastly inferior "battered" fries that so many restaurants use now! One special mention -- I didn't order the Steelhead Chowder with my meal, but my wife let me have a few spoonfuls of hers, and it was absolutely amazing! It was thick and creamy, yet not at all pasty; with nice chunks of steelhead. I loved the layers of flavor, too; the flavor of the steelhead was up front, and then it finished with this wonderful buttery note that made you want to come back for more. Yum! The aforementioned Apple Crisp was also wonderful, but I could only eat half of it. The apples were cooked just enough, but still had a little crunch, which I loved. It was served in a small cast iron skillet, with caramel sauce and lots of yummy crispy bits. So good. This is my "go to" restaurant in the Clackamas area if I want a dining experience that is a bit of a cut above. My wife and I have even stopped in for appetizers and drinks when we had time to kill, just because the atmosphere is so inviting. read more

Stopped by on Friday afternoon with a girlfriend who is an espresso martini enthusiast so naturally we grabbed two espresso martinis from Greg the bartender. The entire bar staff was chatty and fun to interact with while they were doing side work, everyone that was working was kind and answered any questions we had. Came here for happy hour yesterday and the food was great. Nice bar area with a great happy hour menu. Our server Greg was very nice and knowledgeable about items that could be made gluten free for me. I got the Caesar salad was good with out croutons and the spinach stuffed mushrooms without the bread crumbs were quite delicious. The mango margarita was very good. My friend got the fish and chips and was impressed at how good it was. Another person in our party get the ribs and said they were excellent. The chicken tenders were very large and good. We're just trying to find a good prime in Portland! And it continues. Tonight, our first choice restaurant wasn't able to accommodate our party of 6, so we tried this spot for our son's birthday. Even though we had a reservation, the hostess argued with us. " there's no reservation under that name". Then, after about 5 minutes of going back and forth, it WAS located. She walked us through the restaurant to our table, only to find another party of six seated there! Soooo we walked all the way back out to the front while they set up another table. ( Turns out the people that were there had been mistakenly marked as our party) *shrug* So we were finally seated. And, to our surprise they had "happy birthday" tokens all around. That was really nice! And, when the waitress took our orders, she DID acknowledge the birthday boy and his soon to coming dessert. Things were looking up! Alas, What a bummer our meal was though! I mean, we're not snobs and none of what has happened so far was enough to affect our rating too much. We've given a lot of grace to restaurants for a lot more in the past. However, the food . Meh My husband ordered the prime rib. He said this was the worst one he's ever had. Something about the salt cure, dry aging process didn't do it right. It was the fattest cut of flavorless meat he's had in a long time. "I could get a better cut at Safeway!" My filet mignon tips in wine sauce: again, there were so many pieces of chewy fat in the gravy I wasn't able to really enjoy the food. Also, sadly, they substituted green beans without telling us so we were doubly disappointed. Our daughter says the mac n cheese had one big slab of floppy, unappetizing bacon that overpowered the entire dish. As if that wasn't enough, and even though they delivered my son's birthday brownie sundae with a candle, they completely forgot that the rest of us ordered desserts at all! We had to remind our server that we were still waiting for our desserts when she came by to clear my son's dish. Sigh. It wasn't a very busy restaurant tonight, so I cant even make an excuse for them. Would we go to this restaurant again? No. Was it worth the high price? No The bright spots? My creme brulee, delish! Key lime pie: delish (but the crust was waay too thick) The lemonade? Tart, and delish. The seasonal drinks? Both types were really good. And finally, the bathroom was really dirty, as was the dining room floor itself. Many servers walked over a discarded napkin without bending to pick it up. I had an outstanding experience at Stanford's Restaurant easily one of the best dining spots in the area. From start to finish, everything was smooth, professional, and genuinely enjoyable. We were seated almost immediately, which was a pleasant surprise for such a popular place. The staff was warm, attentive, and efficient without being overbearing. Our server checked in at just the right moments, offered great menu suggestions, and made us feel truly taken care of. The atmosphere is clean, modern, and upscale yet still comfortable perfect for both a nice dinner out or a special occasion. The lighting and décor give it that classy but relaxed vibe that's hard to pull off. You can tell they really take pride in maintaining a polished environment. The food was exceptional. I ordered the grilled salmon with lemon-butter sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables perfectly cooked, flaky, and full of flavor. My guest had the New York steak, cooked medium-rare and spot-on, juicy with a smoky char from the grill. We also tried the crab and artichoke dip as an appetizer, which was creamy and rich without being too heavy, and came with perfectly toasted crostini. Even the small touches stood out water glasses never empty, plates cleared promptly, and everything served at the right temperature. Stanford's delivers the full package: excellent service, delicious food, and a refined atmosphere. After almost all 5 star reviews (100 ish) I feel the need to make one of my first 1 star reviews. Sat June 17th we had absolutely awful service (delivery of food) and cold food. It took us being patient for 45 min after ordering food to finally get served our appetizer.....which came out after someone came to refill drinks for the 3rd time. That appetizer, calamari was cold and greasy. After 30 more minutes and another drink refill, we asked a passing manager to cancel the main dishes (we had been waiting 70 min since food order) That manager(leader) said "oh wait one more min I'll go get it now". It came 5 min later......ribs cold... potatoes cold...... one maybe 2 ribs eaten over plates. Potatoes didn't even melt the slab of cold butter that was put on top. We paid our tab and left Horrible experience, Will never come back to any one of their locations. We would rather travel to Atlanta and go to Houston's for the same pricing. And on top of all of this, my son, in a wheel chair, was given a table that also served as the storage area for the 75 seat cushions on the main floor which I'm sure, were not sanitary and exiting at chest level while sitting. Old remains of food...crusted on. My wife is still waiting to hear back from a manager after a week now. She called on Sunday, left number. Yet to hear back. Neville is our last name. read more

I've always loved coming to Stanford's for happy hour! I have not visited since they closed the Jantzen Beach location, as that was the closest to me since I live in Vancouver. Finally decided to come check it out again after years of not visiting. Staff was great. Very friendly and attentive. Food has always been good and the deals are great for happy hour. The mac n cheese has always been a favorite item of mine, as well as their Caesar salad. Just be aware that if you add chicken to your salad, it costs more than the salad itself! Which is crazy. The chicken strips are always good and juicy, and they come with fries. The happy hour margarita wasn't something I'd order again. It was way too tart and was not refreshing at all. Not sure if there was too much margarita mix or syrup used? But throw espresso martini was delicious! Always good vibes here and great service. Wish it wasn't so far, otherwise I'd visit more often. read more

I wasn't going to say anything because our waitress was so good to us but it hasn't been sitting right with us for days. Me and my husband came in New years for an early birthday celebration for him. We ordered chicken wings as one of our appetizers. Half way through our second Chicken wing we realized they were undercooked and still pink inside. Our waitress took it back and refunded us for it. Stuff happens we weren't gonna make a big deal out of it. We ordered two steak dinners. My steak was supposed to be cooked medium well & my husbands well done. They both came out medium rare. I tried to deal with mine I didn't want to be a bother, but my husband sent his back. It came back super charred and still bloody. I know from working at restaurants they're not supposed to throw your steak back on the grill for sanitary purposes so I'm actually surprised it was put back on the grill. That was a bit alarming. On top of that I think they left our macaroni under the warmer because it was pretty dried out. We decided not to say anything because we already felt bad for sending back our appetizer and didn't want to send the steak back a second time or make a fuss about our sides too. We figured we would try and fix our food up at home... but honestly it wasn't fit to reheat. It just bothers me that we wasted $150 and didn't even have a nice dinner. We are regulars and have never had this issue before. I know it was new years so maybe there was a lot of employees who called out... idk i tried to give the benefit of doubt but this was worst experience we've had thus far. Not sure if i want to even return to this location again after this. I hate leaving bad reviews, I should have spoken to a manager while I was there and fixed this. I feel at a loss. What I will say is my waitress was wonderful and very accommodating, the restaurant was clean and atmosphere was inviting and beautiful. That alone deserves 5 stars read more

Feeling fishy on a Friday, so we caught ourselves heading to a great fish sammy at Stanny's. Burgers are ridiculously good here as well, that great grilled taste, not cooked on a flattop. Enjoyed a very nice house salad, which comes with a piece of garlic focaccia, old school delicious! Beautiful, comfy booths, and good sports on in the bar- where we always sit, because we love the servers in the bar. Let me first state that this a good restaurant. For a casual steak house setting, it definitely does great for itself in decor. The service, granted it was a busy night was great and she kept checking in with us. My parents and sister enjoyed their meal but I couldn't t say the same thing. My New York came out to be under seasoned, undercooked, and burnt. I told the server only about the undercooked steak and they just brought up to temp. The bitter burnt taste was very prominent that it over took any taste of the beef. At the end, I didn't had time for them to refire another steak and just finished what was on my plate. We have been eating here for the past decade and the food and service has always been outstanding. The prices are very reasonable especially for the high quality of the dishes. My wife always gets the blackened steelhead with a creamy Cajun sauce, lime basmati rice and asparagus, and this time I got the fish and chips. Both were incredible. We also always get the spinach artichoke dip and this time we added the crab cake appetizer, both were amazing. The Prime Rib Sandwich was tasty. But for $27 you should get fries included. Instead, you have to choose between fries, soup, salad or coleslaw as your *one* side. C'mon man. How chintzy is that?! I don't mind paying $27 for a meal, but this was paltry at best. Down the block at Oswego Grill, the prices and atmosphere are the same, but the amount of food you get feels worth it and is definitely more satisfying. Three stars for the friendly service. Two stars deducted for a lackluster $27 soup and sandwich meal that should have been around $17 at most. read more

No exaggeration here at all, not one bit! I made a special bday reservation over the phone, was asked if we were celebrating anything and I shared so, but that was never remembered, why did they even ask then I wondered. Started out great when first walking in, was enjoying appetizer and then the salads came. No acknowledgement, no help to make room for the salads, just waiter with hands full looking at us. We made room. And as incredible as it is to say, then dinner came while salads were being eaten. Again, no acknowledgement, no help to make room for the salads, no movement of any plates, just waiter with hands full looking at us again, waiting for us to make room. We were shocked. Table had appetizer plates, salad plates and now dinner plates. Unreal. Eventually "some" plates were taken away, just a few. Even at the end the table was never fully cleared of plates. Even more incredible, is that we were asked if we wanted dessert while dinner was still being finished, you bet we said no. And...the bill was laid down while dinner was still being finished. Incredible. What appeared to be a manager was walking around, looking at tables, not at the customers, not looking to help or see who needs what, but no doubt to see which table could be seated next. We arrived at 5:30, there was no wait, we were excited and left knowing we would never be back or ever recommend. Blown away by the food! Yes! I was shocked and pleased. After visiting the Stanford's in Beaverton for many years while working out that way and always feeling it was consistently mediocre, I visited the Stanfords at Clackamas because they added $25 to my rewards card to invent me since I hadn't been in years. That was enough to motivate me to give it a try. Greg greeted me warmly and enthusiastically as I entered the bar area. His pleasant tine genuine hospitality continued through the night. I watched as many patrons, obviously regulars, stopped to give him a hanspdshake or hug and thank him for his always impeccable service. I can tell you now, I will be come one of them! Greg works Friday-Sunday. My glass of wine was nice and full and arrived promptly. Mathew, the bartender, really hassles and keeps drinks flowing at the bar and for the tables in the restaurant. Wanting a home cooked meal, I ordered the herb roasted chicken. It was out of this world! Best I've ever had at a restaurant. Arriving piping hot, steam coming out when I cut into it, the meat so tender and juicy. Lots of herb flavor made better with fresh lemon that brighten up the meal. Accompanying the chicken were delicious and flavorful mashed potatoes and green beans perfectly cooked. They were crisp and bright green, al dente with carmelized ends. Perfection. I also ordered a side salad as I like a salad with my meal, not prior. I chose the Ceaser and it was dressed perfectly, every crisp, cold leaf of romaine coated. Lots of shaved Parmesan, a few garlicky croutons and fried capers to round it out. Loved it! Wish they out more capers in it and will ask for that next time. Every single thing was soooo good that I devoured the entire meal even though typically I bring half home. Not this time! Was seriously full and wished I had only eaten half so I could have had desert. The couple next to me raved about their desert, and their entire meal. actually everyone in my area was saying the same. This is not your typical Stanfords experience.
